I'm downloading the release version I think right now. This looks pretty nice. I do most stuff in linux, but it would cool to have a little part for 3d benching and gaming. Windows XP can be flaky when you are playing around with your settings and memory timings.
Just wondering if you guys have any designs to change the shell at all to the *box varieties. I used one for a while -- it could use some tweaking definitely but the potential is there.
gonna make a partition to run this on in a little while... how big should I make it?

You need to be patient when plugging in those drivers, after you started a driver install you must wait until all the driver components has been installed before reboot (can be multiple popups) ..this does only require for a click on the "automatic install" button...multiple times if you are installing Audio for example. This is a result of the Shell Hardware Detection beeing deactivated...will save resources but requires patience. Decision was made to do this considering that drivers wont be installed everyday...but you surely would like to have the extra resources gained at hand everyday...right? :D
Anyway, goal was and still is a performance OS...not a convenience OS.;)

BTW nn step if you need more mirros to dl the files from let me know then at last i might be able to put my server to some work.. :) It is hostet on an 100/100 MBit connection and there are plenty of room on the disk.. :D
Update: Did just install it in vmware, and the install did only take 6mins and with an memory use of 40 mb after install.. i am at the moment running it with an dotnet 2.0 irc client an mate is making with no probs.. will start to runs some stress test later to day..
Downloading now, gonna rip out an old 20g IDE drive from a P1 rig thats in the basement.
A thought though. anyway we could get this running off a large thumb drive like a 256 Mb thumb drive?

This is also what I get. Tried with 3 different ati drivers and also the omega driver that I usually run. When you run dxdiag, the option to enable 3d acceleration is not available and greyed out. This is with the latest alpha. i wonder if it's an issue with ati cards?Quote:

Don't know if this has been said and I mentioned it to nn_step but is there an easy way for me to get my UK Keyboard layout running on this? I don't know the American layout and it wouldn't go with my keyboard.

Then rightclick and merge the file into registry, you can doubleclick it as well. Different keyboard layouts was forgotten by mistake, will be fixed in latest version.

It asks me to install all these new things after I installed my sound drivers. It does it every time i reboot. Alot of it has to do with Microsoft Audio.

USB hard drive not showing in My Computer. But shows in Device manager, and stated as working perfectly.
Tried same device on another machine with Windows XP Pro, and showed up fine.
Suggestions, recommondations, issue already addressed?

Its not shown, is it not there/disabled, or need to access it another way?
So when and set up secondary HDD as an internal Slave, and still shows in Hardware manager, but not in My Computer.

Could someone help please, I downloaded the image from page 1 of the thread then checked it with MD5 thentried to install it on a new H Drive it was OK until after the reboot it would not finish the install where it gets to the part where it counts down the minutes it would not go any further when I reset the PC it would either BSOD or stall at the same point, I did not have any other H Drives or USB drives installed.
I have tried the search function but cannot find the latest version.

Sorry, i`m having trouble with installing onto a RAID as well... F6 reads files fine, but cant find them for the actual install.
Tried adding the XP/2003 drivers from the Floppy too..no better :(

I'll just confirm that I'm having the same problems with the nvraid drivers. Have tried the latest one's from dfi's site, xp, 2k, & 2k3. This has been issue since the first release. I think it is really the only problem left.

I`m using an SLI-DR.. the Sil chip doesnt support SATAII RAID AFAIK, so my only option is the nVidia chip.

i'm sure i've read that having an unattended disk prevents storage drivers being inserted using the f6 method :shrug:
have you tried using nlite and slipstreaming the raid drivers in? Then rebuild the iso image and burn. then you don't have to use F6 to install the drivers, they will already be there...
- Smooth install on single SATA drive (no raid)

i am praying that i will be on this list and i know my friend Demagh ( also from Egypt and who joined the forum only to join the testing of this project ) will be doing the same since we are very very interested in this project , that Demagh is still using the last version and testing it till today although we know that there was a newer and better version that we missed

Lets just say every three Beta versions. we will release an Official. You guys then can kick the crap out of the OS with testing and Give us Lots and Lots of feedback. we then will hand it off to our Betas for refinement and then we will throw it back to the world to kick it around some more.

so this already measn that we are not on the " Hand Slected " list, honeslty i think this is not fair, but it is ur own project and effort so u can do whatever u want and refuse to take help from whatever u want
so this mean that starting from know we "normal" users will have to wait the release and testing of 3 beta versions before the fourth can be listed on the forum for everyone to d/l and test then after some feedback a new beta will be relased to the closed group before the final is out
as i said before i am not happy not being in teh closed group and i am sure many will feel the same specially since this problem form the start we weren't responable for it and we were follwoing the rules so to be punished for that is very sad, and i am saying punished cause u don't know how happy we were ( atleast me and My close friend Demagh ) with this project and the fact that we were a part of it
even Demagh was able to find 3 very rare adn weird errors that no one else even thought about trying them
anyway there is nothing we can do from now on expect waiting for the next public beta

Still on version 1.2a, got the newer one's but I kinda liked this one already and this is all just test runs so far :) Also installed without hitches, driver cd on hand offcourse. Sorry for the very ignorant post...but I'm looking at restarting my OS collection for a full range of available OS's to bench with. I wanna end up with a basic/standard install cd and also a tweaked/striped cd for each OS and I was wondering which specific OS is nnstep 2.0...
I really do appreciate the time being put into this...very much so...and I look forward to it's progress, closed box or not.

The DL on NN-Steps site is disabled right now because of 3.0 Beta coming, maybe someone can hook you up with a disc?
