Can i doo the mod wiout soldring? is it possible too glue the wire too the resistor?

Hey hypro5
First I want to thank all work your doing for us not only in this thread but in general.
Nice to have you here!
Btw, that carbon resistors are very sensitive.
I think that happens because the hot of iron solder damages the resistor's carbon.
I think if you guys use a good iron like JBC 11W (not 30W iron bought on $1 store) and try to not heat the resistor much time the resistor will work good after the mod.
I don't have X1900XTX and didn't seen any in my hand to try the mod but i think that's the cause of dead cause it happens in much electronic devices like pstwo's etc
I do this with pstwo resistors and never killed any but I've one here to reapir with that problem ;)
What do you think hypro?
I think that I have a new WORLD RECORD with a single card at 3DMark2005........No....?.......:D :toast:Quote:

Well done m8! :toast:
Go for the last MHz to break the 1GHz/1GHz barrier :D
but with a thermocontroled solder you can avoid to burn any component.Quote:

Yes you can use a thermocontroled solder but a good one is expensive ($200 range) and you can buy a good iron solder like JBC 11W for $25 or less! :toast:Quote:

Yes, you can add or change the resistor with new one like hypro said.
On change i recomend using hot air iron to solder the new resistor. That just sends hot air to the resistor place and the probability to kill another resistor is very low.
I allways use it to change smd parts ans works good!
just my 0.25 cents! :toast:
Holy crap this thread is amazing. Sorry to go off topic but is there any hard vmod I could do for my x1900xtx with a vf-700? I hate softmods lol. :-\
He, he, he.......Now I'm at 1021MHz core and 1008MHz Rams as for the Nature of the 2k1 and at 2970MHz, I got 649 fps.......:D
2k5 = 1008MHz core and 1008MHz Rams........:D
haha....you are unpredictable man....
i am working all day.....and when i come home...i am looking to this thread for any improvements.....
i know that if i leave you the card 10 more days...it will be running 20more mhz than know...:D
hipro your new goal is 2Ghz/2Ghz benchable ;)
May I ask what the card idle/loaded temp is now in ATI Tool?
:DQuote:

Today evening something bad happen to me.......
I was backing up Windows as an image file and I left the ring to do so coz I had some other things to do......When I turned my head so as to see if it has finished, I show the rig shutted down.....Getting closer to it, I show the VGA's evaporator temperature showing 128*C.......I have forgotten to power up the second stage of the cascade.......VGA's stage.....:( The temperature might be way over that, I suppose, coz I don't know for how long the rig was down......:( I fired up the second stage so as to cool it down a bit and see if anything "bad" had happen to the VGA and I was over it all the time till the temp drop at 0*C......I fired up the rig and everything was fine....EXCEPT one thing......After some seconds the VGA was shutting down and one power indicator led of it was turning ON.......and the VCore was up and down..........:(
I noticed though the bracket that holds the evaporator on the VGA was awful......almost like a U shape.....
I fire up the second stage once again and left it up to -105*C.......I booted and I was OK.....NO power indicator led was ON on the VGA........Into Windows with -105*C and no cold bug problem......."Strange" I said.......ATI tool was showing 22*C........Ooooopppsssssss.......What's going on here?.......I said......After some observations I came up to the conclusion that the evaporator was not making a good contact with the core any more........I reinstall it and now I'm OK.......I think I did a GOOD "burn-in" to this VGA with this way coz now I'm able to run 2k1 Nature @ 1036MHz core and 1008MHz Rams.......Sorry Gorillakos.......That was close........:)
NOW......I want to CONGRATULATE ATI's technicians coz NOTHING bad happen to the VGA and believe me this VGA has passed through a LOT of torture.......:) :toast: :toast:
I'll upload some photos tommorow of it.......Arctic Ceramique was like stone and brown colour.....:D
Nice burn in hipro :D
That is amazing it still runs after that, kudo's to ATI.
Wow, thats a crazy story there Hipro. I think ots time to get the #1 05 single card score back. Some dothan @ 4100 & card running 1000/1000 should do it. BTW, YHPM.
Some photos.......
Take a look how Arctic Caramique got a brown colour........I wonder how much heat does it need to be like this!.......
http://www.thelab.gr/images/Hipro5/T...VER_130C_1.jpg
Look now at the plastic(not quite plastic though) how it became(burned).....

This VGA is a "survivor".......:D
i'm glad the card is still living. i wasn't as lucky with my 9800xt.
i've had the smell of death when something like that happened
what speed was the card running when you noticed the 2nd
stage wasn't turned on? at default these cards are supposed
to put out some 112w loaded.
It was default but not with 1.17Vcore but with 1.35Vcore......Quote:

Huge cooling
Huge heat
Props to ceramique :D
GIve it a 2nd run with that heat hipro, maybe you can squeeze a few more mhz from it
Dude you are truely insane. But the important part the story has a happy ending.
Make this a new beginning :D
rofl hipro how the hell didt u do that ?

jort thx for modding the card , here is no more coldbug :D
without the mod it start @ -10°C;)
my card is death now :(
Ouch! Sorry to hear that. What happened ?
i hade a bench yesterday but that night it boots with artifacts and crashes in 3d :( . mods are of now , the card is death but il get me a new wanne ;) ,
maby il stop benching for a whill now . but il be back for team.be :D
Man thank god ya didn't loose that fine card!!!Quote:

any news about safer vgpu mod?
@George
did you see my pm?
Safer VGPU I didn't found till now though.......I'm trying to find a resistor to ground, so as someone toQuote:

I have been looking for a easier place to make the connection as well. Have found two with both under the stock mosfet strip heatsink. There is no voltage divider in the feedback circuit that I can find. The divider is created when you add the trimmer to ground.Quote:

At what temperature does cold bug kick in (on average)? Will there be problems with DICE already?
Depends on VGA.......With this one I had cold bug when reaching -30*C.......Quote:

Sorry, i'll stop posting stupid questions too early on the morning. -
I haven't read the whole thread, so excuse me, if it has already been discussed.
Does this mods help 1900XT CF master card, cause it hurts from cold bug a lot more thatn XTX?
it does help

i don't know for that card alone, in CF i can do around 720 core, normal ambient, i have benched with 800 with waterblocks, open window, that is all without voltmods, only ati tool voltage adjustment.
but it has bad coldbug, -20, total corpution, i don't see anything in VGA (boot screen)
You HAVE to mod it if you want more out of them......with care of caurse........;) :)Quote:

dont you search for another contact point with very low or no resistance then the resistor you are trying to solder to then use that point as an alternate?
I hawe kiled one xtx and one Master card with the vcore mod..... my solder iron is too hot for the little resistor :( So i started too test other solderpoint and finale find a SAFE way too doo the mod :)Quote:

Thank you very much Overklokk, i am sorry for your two card though
I'll try these mods into my X1800XT, Augu said it should work on it. ??
Dani is right now modding my new Powercolor X1900XT, He's asking what is that VDDCI-mod? Is there any mod for VDDCI?
VGPU, VDD (?), VDDCI Mods were succesfully made by Dani in this evening and here is some pictures for you.
Powercolor X1900XT pictures.
I get the card back tomorrow and I'll test it a little bit.
I wish you luck with the benches....:) :toast:
Thanks hipro5!
At first I hope I can get over 800MHz core and about 900MHz for memory. We'll see.. :hammer:
Hipro5 - Okay, I'm wondering with Dani is everything here ok? These measures is taken without any ATI drivers or Ati Tool in Danis computer.
Vcore IDLE/LOAD: 1.18V/ this is ok, I think
MEM IDLE/LOAD: 2.08V/ this one is ok too, I think
VDDCI: 1.53V How about this one? Can I put the card now into my mobo (there is drivers and AtiTool all default-settings in my Win XP...)
all the trimmers = default 50Kohm
Or should I first go in Windows by another card to do some setting in Ati Tool? Please hurry!!
--------------------------------
"...VDDCI was preset at 1.75Volts during boot......I mean trimm the trimmer at it's MAXED Ohmage, then solder it and then trimm it at 1.75Volts.......DON'T change after that the VDDCI within ATItool........You'll not gain much if any - test it a bit though..."
---------------------------------
It's working something like this now:
Ati Tool ~ GPU 1.400V, Real voltage 1.500V
Ati Tool ~ VDD 2.08V, Real voltage 2.18V
Ati Tool ~ VDDCI 1.55V, Real voltage 1.65V
So, Ati Tool + 0.1V is the real voltage with my settings. :D Let's try these first..
The messures are OK....Quote:

I see you did it so keep on.....:D
Hmm.. This one goes nothing. 1.64-1.65V (in load) @ 766MHz and crash.. Maybe VDDCI takes off?
1.56V Vgpu / 2.18V MVDDC / VDCCI has set to 1.65V
http://koti.mbnet.fi/boble76/Tietoko..._837_1.56V.jpg
Setup pics :D
Any ideas hipro5? Just more voltages to gpu?
Trimm the VDCCI to 1.75Volts so as to help your rams.....If your rams could work OK, then the Core will go higher......VGA freezes at high core frequency NOT only by it's core but from it's rams as well......Rams don't do artifacts all the time so as to "worn" you that they are in their limit BUT they frezzes the VGA as well.....;)
It's done now.
http://koti.mbnet.fi/boble76/Tietoko...CI_1.75V_2.jpg
In Ati Tool VDDCI is default 1.486V and in card 1.75V. Hope this one will run little faster now. Thanks hiproooo!
Hey!
I have problem with 1900XTX, can't get it over 864MHz core.
How did you mod the card BIOS?Or someone can share that moded BIOS?
