This is the best I could do
3D Mark 2005 - 6669 :D
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1312950
Finding it really hard to push it an more. Im keeping my 24/7 clocks at 579/615 MHz. Really wanted 600 MHz on the core :(.
Still, can't complain - only cost £150 :D :toast:
Ah well, maybe it will go further on better cooling......
Read a topic on a German forum today where 6-7 guys succesfully flashed their Connect3D X800GTO cards to X800XT.
Yesterday, I saw that same card laying on the shelf of the store I buy most of my stuff.
Quickly called them and asked if they still had it (it was the only one).
Was still there. Drove to the store after work and picked it up.
The manager was very interessted to see if the card would unlock (so he could get himself one :D )
The card looked exactly the same as my regular X800XT. After preparing the necesary files for flashing, I went ahead.
Card successfully flashed at X800XT, 16p. Recognized as R423 by ATI Tool.
Made a quick 3D05 run to check the performance.
Scored 6433 marks on a non tweaked system, card slightly oc'ed at 520/540.

Will test more tomorrow to see how far it will go.
One of my better buys this year.
Look what arrived for me today! :D

Hehe, installing XP Pro ATM. Results later.
The PCI-E power connector is a good sign, probably don't have a 110nm core.
Highest I've benched is just a few points shy of 7K. With another notch and a boost on the CPU I could make it; wondering if it's worth the trouble for the right to say I got 7K 2005 from a $199 card?

lol I'd say its worth it. Thats what I'm shooting for, but i doubt my crappy winchester will do it.
Good sign that all these connect3d gto's are flashing. Mine comes from newegg tomorrow. Pics and results will be posted :)
i should be getting my x800gto2 some time early next week. i'll post results after i finish building my pci-e system (i'm on pentium m right now so my x800gto2 will be useless for a while)
I should get mine on friday.
I will test it with my venice at 2800 mhz and more probably.. :)
I will post some results for sure
I just noticed you said x800xt Jupiler...as in they can't be flashed to x850xt or did you mean x850xt?
OMFG. Flashed my card like it says on Techpowerup--my results...

(those cpuz shots dont show me burning in)
if you got 1.6ns ram apply the memory tweaks in this forum helps alot :D btw is that 72c core? wow highest i get inder load was 61 with the stock hs and i got 6950 in 05 yesterday, im so pissed lol
Nope, I meant the X800XT, like said before.Quote:

It was my understanding that the gto could have a couple different cores meaning that it has the potential to become either an x800xt or x850xt, but the gto2 is garunteed to be an x850xt because they all have r480 cores, but I might be mistaken.Quote:

Jupiler, will you PM me the exact directions it says for Connect3D x800GTO's? I like specific details and knowing exactly what to do when it comes to stuff like this. Including bios and whatnot. Thanks!
PM send.
how do you check for 1.6 and where's that memory tweaks? :toast:Quote:

Hey NickS is it possible you could check your core?? I would like to know wht your core says on it. I think this is very importnat information for XS members, i tell you why. Some of the reports of Connect3D GTO not working have been put down to the core type. Well we know tht Jupiler core does not have R480 on it but X800 and it works, now if your card has R480 on it and it works we will have two XS members reporting successful unlocking of both cores on Connect3D GTO cardsQuote:

Here's a pic from both cores (BBA X800XT vs Connect3D X800GTO), so you can see they're both X800.

Is there much depth to the etching on that core in the first one?? That doesn't look too good....anyway, good to see the GTO using the same core as the X800XT.Quote:

In the first image....it looks like the words/logo have a decent amount of depth, do they? Almost like it was tool etched rather than laser etched...
Anyway, it's OT and not pertinent, it just caught my eye.
EDIT: upon further inspection, those cores aren't the same....the GTO's is wider, meaning that, while it does say X800 like the XT does, it doesn't mean it'll have 16 working pipes and it's just as random as it was before :(
Hello everybody
From all this conversation I realized that all of the Sapphire GTO2's would have a 100% chance of success for getting to 16 pipelines. I have a 256 mb Sapphire X800GTO Fireblade Edition Pci-ex. card on my computer clocked just as 400/980 with 12 pipelines active by default just like the gto2's. When I checked with atitool it says that I have R480 core gpu. However I read the article on techpowerup for the modding process and I don't have those F's as stated over there. Do I also have a chance of softmodding this card? If I flashed a 256mb Sapphire X850XT bios, would I damage the card or would it work? Maybe some hardmodding required but I must know if those 4 pipelines work well in order to hardmod the gpu. So I appreciate if you could help me solving this issue. Thank you
It doesn't look wider to me.
It's the inscription that's more centered on the GTO than on the X800XT. Maybe that's why it looks wider.
Ozan Beseski....it does not look like yours is moddable if you don't have the Fs in the right places. I'm not sure if the newer cores can be hardmodded, maybe someone else does.
Jupiler....alright, it probably is because the text is more centered, thx for the info.
heres the tweaks http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=55485Quote:

I report back in 2 weeks when i got my opteron.
Guys you think its worth trading in my 6600 GT for this card ? The store by me has a Sapphire X800 GTO2 what you think ??? and they go up to XT speeds ?

Is that good or bad? Would some Arctic Silver help? During the test, i set the fan on to full towards the end, and temps dropped from 65ish to 57 during load :)
I guess its time to say goodbye to my ol' faithful 6600GT. Had it for over a year..bought it when they just came out. Used to do 565/1192 MHz and I had a lot of fun with it. It'll be missed :(

On the bright side, I'm now on my 1st ever ATi card and am lovin' it :D
id say thats bloddy good for £150 as5 will get you a drop in temps maybe a few mhz on core, mine will be here tomorow , what cooling are you using on it? i orderd a zalman vf700 cooler , i may stick my water block on it , i was planning on getting rid of all my xtreme cooling and going back to air but i may be tempted to just keep the water for the gt02
so what then
ZALMAN VF700CU or any ARTIC COOLER ?
Thanks. all stock cooling :DQuote:

Wont it go any higher? id expect the memory to do 580 MHz atleast. probably in excess of 600 MHz.

Anyway to volt-mod the core through the bios like you can do with some nVidia cards (did it on my 6600GT)? I really don't want to hard-mod this right now, as Ive just had it for 36 hours :D
Mine said R423 in ATi Tool before I flashed, R480 afterwards.
ATI Tool like all other software just reads from the bios.Quote:

no, he just flashed with an x800 bios and not an x850 one...atitool for core is useless, to know yu must read on it!
wellllllllllll thats true, but I overclocked it to x850
=D
oh, and i haven't even TRIED overclocking past x850xt specs yet, so I bet it'll do more, i'm just letting the as5 sit in and whatnot. I'll be getting a new gpu cooler soon. This sucker runs pretty cool too, 35c idle, where as my x800pro was 42c idle. Load only gets up to 62c, where my x800pro saw 72
So its still on 12 pipelines? or 16?
I wanna see benchies :D
which cooler ?
It's fully unlocked to 16 pipes, stock cooling.
I'm currently scanning @ 560/570 with no artifacts yet. If it keeps that up I'll start benching. Don't expect anything mind shattering with a 2.65ghz winnie and value ram though :D
OK i just ran 560/575 and it's fine. 570 core freezes my computer and 580 gets pixel errors. This is on STOCK COOLING with fresh as5 so that may get better when I get some ramsinks and better cooling. My core hit 77c while running artifact scanner for 10 mins though, which is just rediculous, but ATi Tool's scanner is very harsh and I have yet to see any game get my core past 60c on my x800pro. Benches are going to be ran right now, I'll show results when done =)
BENCHING RESULTS
Well, I'm done, and I was very pleased and suprised by the results.
First thing's first. The settings:
AMD64 Winchester @ 2.65ghz (295x9)
2x512mb ram @ 221mhz 2.5-3-3-7
x800gto -> 16 pipe @ 561/573
Catalyst 5.10
NO special 3D Mark tweaks were done, this is my 24/7 rig
Stock cooling on gpu with no extra fans on or around the core/ram
3D Mark 03: 14071 (click to see pic of all settings)
3D Mark 05: 6867 (again, click for pic)
I don't really know what to set drivers for with catalyst to get better scores, but I bet with an opteron 939 and my old VX, 7k would have been cake =)
Hello guys, if I try to flash my Sapphire x800gto Fireblade Edition Card's bios to Sapphire x850xt bios would there be any risk of damaging the card if the mod doesn't work? Or do you know if it really works or not?
Ozan : AFAIK, the only Sapphire version of the GTO series that work is the GTO2, so if it were my card, I would not take the risk. :(
Raped my scores. I still cant get my ram above 1010 MHz, anyone wanna offer some help?
id like to know this too, my core locks at 570 as wellQuote:

I don't believe so =\
I'm really tempted to reflash to clocks 560/573, since I changed it using rabit, but IDK, if it aint broke dont fix it right? =P
Dang you guys are getting nice RAM clocks, HOOWWWWWW. :( :'(
whoa whoa whoa, my card just hit 82c and restarted...time to remount my heatsink I suppose...
Yikes. Watch those temps!! :)
@ Damien, Did you mod your Ram timings for yuor video card to get those awesome ram clocks?
Nope I didn't...you can get better ram clocks by loosening timings? any link to say what you can make them?
Temps calmed down a bit, but it's up to 42c idle...dunno whats up with that. Guess I should save up some money and get a new gpu sink. Wish I had water cooling =\
looser timing will let you get higher than normal clocks, but since they are loose it wont have as much effect. get the tighter timing in the 3d forum for x850's im running 600 mem with them on
Guys just and FYI. When i flashed my bios, flashmod (or w/e the name of the software was) also said my core was R423 didn't stop me ;)
I'll be picking up a VNF-700 here asap, althou my late night spending spree has left my bank account pretty dry lol.
Nice scores DamienKC!! :toast:
Looks like my rig is getting raped because im using a P4. My card is on 16 pipelines at 579/615 MHz, and im getting 13941 in 3dm03 and 6669 in 3dm05. Its the P4 right? Cant wait for yonah to come out... :hehe:
Well I was hitting 6336 with old install of windows, old ATI drivers and A64 winny @ 2.3ghz. VC was at 540/590.
I havn't touched a P4 in ages, but I wouldn't say your doing horrable. ;)
(beats the 6600GT any day.. hands down. Thats all I was after)
Everyone should be sure and check out the newest catalyst drivers too (5.10). They are susposed to provide a decent boost in x800 series performance. Doubt it will do anything for 3DM01, but 05 may see a boost.
yep. Same here. i dont upgrade to bench - just when i need to. The 6600GT was showing its age. No doubt it was a great card, but having it over a year, I can tell it was starting to struggle. In NFS-U2 for example after a burnout when theres a lot of particle rendering, you can tell your FPS is very low, then it shoots up all of a sudden after the smokes dissapeared. None of that with this card :D TBH, games LOOK slightly better and run mcuh smother on this at the same settings (1280x1024, 4xaa, 8xaf)
Still not reinstalled doom 3 (for about 8 months now :D) so will run a timedemo later when i get back from school. Its 6 AM and i need to do my homework :stick:
Guys I decided to take the risk and flashed my 256mb Sapphire X800GTO Fireblade Edition video card with the modded X800GTO2 bios supplied in the techpowerup site. I flashed it with the atiflash in the dos screen. After booting windows recognized the card as x800/850 series and I reinstalled the drivers. Everything worked OK till there. However after I checked the card with rivatuner and ati tool, I saw that it's still at 12 pipes and I was really disappointed to see this result. So is this a laser cut gpu? Should it be hardmodded to activate the last quad of pipes? Or should I use flashrom instead of atiflash for this bios? Do you have any opinions about this matter?
yea techpowerup only got 12869 in 03 with a 3.0 p4 f , look at how much damien got with a slow clocked a64 and generic ram , shame i dont have any seal string to remount my mach 2 gt to my x2 and run some benches @ 3.1 when my x800 gets here. damn postman better hurry up , im getting impatientQuote:

Pancake,
Excellant let us know how you get on as am thinking of fitting the zalman to mine this weekend.

did the max core check with ati tool , when i came back pc had froze , restarted and it said last good frequency 590 core , so i set it to that and scanned for artifacts which ran for 10 minutes ok so i moved to mem that settled at around 630 , will run some 3d mark later see what i get , not expecting much as i only have my x2 @ 2.5 on air at the moment
did a quick 01 @ 580/615 to compare with K.I.T.T 's run and got around 29K didnt want to try at max clocks incase it crashes as im downloading something i need quickly. will get 03 after my dl is done and try that. that beats my x800xl and winnie @ 2.7 by about 400 points
the timings arent supposed to allow you to get higher memory, the timings make the ememory more efficient, using the timings lower your mem till it dont artifact then do a 3dmark run, then after that apply stock timings and do another and see how much you gained from themQuote:

Nice temps man! 30c idle is REALLY nice, as I'm getting 42c idle now. I still have stock heatsink, but just getting a zalman wont bring my idle down 12c. I'm jealous :P. My card hit 82c randomly yesterday and froze my pc. I should really save for a zalman.Quote:

NICE core clock man! Cooling/modding info? If thats all stock I envy you. =)
edit : just got to thinking...do you think using the 6-prong power adapter built into the PSU gives less power then the molex adapter the video card comes with? Like, what if I plugged in both molexs and used the adapter, would it get mroe power, thus a better overclock?
