I can't speak for modern chips. But I had a $60 p4p800 rev 2 handling a Northwood @ just shy of 4ghz 24/7. Of course a 4ghz northwood is a far cry from a 4ghz smithfield (What, about 35% of the power draw or thereabouts?)

Most problems these days are people too lazy to read the manual, or learn wtf they are doing first, regardless of the platform.

right the first time.

And the deaths? Also note most of the old A64 deaths were from VDD mods. Notice how many have disappeared once people stopped vmodding the chipset? :rolleyes:

Well, by doing simple math, the amd forum has 7.6x more viewers. When I click on the amd forum, I don't see 7.6x more problematic posts. Also you are completely avoiding what I said, what does price have to do with what I said? Number 1, you can't make a solid argument, #2 you can't back up anything you say, #3 you keep on changing the subject. 3 of them heavily overclocked, and 7 for freinds as gaming pc's. Also, overclocking does not indicate quality, as the products were not made with the intention of overclocking. My argument is basically that amd's cpu's are of good quality when matched with a good psu and mobo, I am not saying that no amd cpu in existance have ever failed, just that, nagul's argument saying they are of low caliber is idiotic.

no you misunderstood me i was just seeing if you had pc's running stock and bragging about them having no problems because that wouldnt be much of a quality indicator. both amd and intel systems run stock perfectly fine. where if u have a heavily overclocked system running without having any problems that really to me shows quality of a product.

oh ok, I understand where you are coming from now :) Both amd and intel make stable cpu's, it is the components you match them with that will dictate the longetivity of the cpu. That is my opinion, however nasgul seems to think that amd = poo, which couldn't be more incorrect.

No, as I already admitted to crossing the line about the 630 and 8xx . I went back and tried to clear that up. If that were the case here, hell, I'd do the same.

The only thing I have to go on is what you wrote, all I did was point out what you said. Yes they did point they were older models it's called being honest, but all AMD owners don't own Venices as Dippy pointed out but I'm not sure if I believe anything he says.

I'm here to say otherwise because that "Something good about Intel" (Easy to achieve overclocks to 4ghz with 820/830's on air cooling) was a ridiculous invention with no basis in reality. Someone asked for his chances of running 4ghz with an 820 or 830 and 100% stability on air cooling. I told him they weren't very good. A couple others told him it would be easy. Who was right again? Because seeing as we've yet to see a single example of a 4ghz stable 820/830 on air (fugger is off trying to get us one now) it sure as hell doesn't look like it's you.

Since Amd's most recent mainstream processors have what may be the best performance/watt ratio ever with the exception of Dothan's, your arguement that including amd in the charts would point out the "bad" of amd is ridiculous. To the point that I suggest we all point at you and laugh, Nelson-style.

Dippy's was a demonstration of the awful power requirements of modern p4's. If anything he needed to find a chart showing the 8XX line, not the A64 line. He was posting it in response to your attempts to attack me for not recommending the 8XX line. This isn't that hard to understand. If you keep BSing long enough, eventually someone will find a golden 8XX that does 4ghz stable on air, and you can claim that lone result means that 4ghz is easy on stock air and vcore, or whatever else you think you can convince idiots who are too lazy to actually read the thread/link it means. Hell I wouldn't put it past you to keep blowing hot air until a new revision comes out which actually can hit 4ghz on air regularly. This thread is just retarded. I've read almost every post here in the last 5 days all the way from page 1. I totally agree with Lithan on this one.

There is just a lack of proof from the people who support the 4ghz Pent-D on air. It IS possible, but we have yet to see it. So one could say that it more than likely NOT going to happen. Though, there was a link that showed a Pent-D at 4.0+ ghz but if anyone took the time to read that post from OCforums, the person stated he was using a Koolance Exos watercooling system for 4ghz.

Can you all quit moaning and groaning and leave this be. Some of you are contributing worthwhile information and claims, but for the most part this is mindless babble in here.

To FUGGER...dude I dont care who your are superpi 32mb 2 instances of it is not a stability test. I can run them at 2.7ghz on my 4400+ X2 yet prime (2 instances) will not be stable at 2.60ghz and FH 2instances of it will get EEUs at about 2.62ghz....Get a better method of stability testing please....

I recommed to all P4 users to run S&M...that program will add 6c over Large FFT testing and will push you temps to the extreme....This is the Extreme site right??? too bad it is wasted on screenies of cpu_z with little or no proof of actual stability...

Does S&M show errors (in the way prime shows mathematical mistakes) or is it just a load program where the only demonstration of a computation or memory error is a lockup, program crash, or system crash?

No it has an error count..you can have it continue with errors and just count them or stop at first error....It is about 70 minutes and it will load both cores with 1 instance launched....

Another app that is better then prime IMO is OCCT...It is more sensitive then prime and will usually error out sooner then prime...If prime95 is 1-2 hours for an error OCCT could error out in about 15 min....

Takes time just to catch up with this thread. Burried in work as well as just finished two shows this weekend.

I've got to check occt out. Know of any program that's as good as prime for cpu errors, but (much) better than prime for memory errors? Im sick of priming for 24 hrs only to have Mozilla crash after about 30 mins for a memory error.

S&M has memory error count as well....but I still just run memtest to really be safe...OCCT is far more sensitive then prime from myine and others experience..some may say it is not long enough and I have to agree just keep running it...
