I'm not saying anything about you. I was just making a sarcasm about the other guys thoughts. If you are an excellent overclocker, Macci is too, the point is we don't care you are being paid or given unreleased hardware, we just want some sweet scores and WRs.

Actually you are out of line in my opinion, macci was testing hardware that was not under NDA, this hardware is obviously under NDA and as it was supplied with NDA strings attached you can either have nothing from Sampsa or just what he can get away with. He has been upfront about it, he said a few pages back that he will not say anything that will break NDA until the time comes.

Macci has put up the single score in 05 but has still not posted his Crossfire result on the Orb, he obviously has reasons for doing this. After all it is his score, he can do with it what he wants ( with whatever Ati says to be taken into account, if they are puting restrictions on it ).

I get the feeling reading some of the posts on this thread that the top benchers owe the "smaller fry" something, but I'm afraid they do not. You can pick up lots of valuable information from them if you are prepared to be patient and read and learn, but you have no right to this info I'm afraid.And I include myself obviously as smaller fry in this case :D

You get entertainment of of these folks when they publish their benching marks and exploits, they can either let you know what they or doing, or they cannot, but if they do decide to show you what they have been doing then it's then bloody cheeky, IMO, to demand how they tell you.

Like tv, wou do not have to watch if you do not want to, you can turn off.

I must admit that the way I see is: it is all MARKETING, guys!

Why actually not wait until you have hardware, start a thread with all benches, photos and info one can think of. Sort of be prepared for questions and have answers ready?

But no... It's all just to gain a lot of attention and bring as many people as possible to see how it goes. You tease and tease and give a bit of an info at a time... Some people get pissed but again others will patiently wait and see. Just like with reality shows - some hate it but others just love it. It was like this with Macci and ATI. Now, same thing... Sampsa and probably his G70 preview.

Personally I don't like it that way... But oh well... I guess we're not gonna escape from it... :)

That won't happen. If ATI knew how much 3DMarks a G80 scores in one more month, they can design a better one. But when Macci played with Crossfire, nVidia had their G70 and SLI platform ready.

By the way, they would have to release drivers optimized for G80 to all the public, so Futuremark would aprove them.

This type of things can only happen a month before the realease of the real products. It's just marketing, they won't advertise a product that won't exist for a year, but they will (Ati or nVidia) will advertise a product that everyone is expecting to show in the market soon.

By the way Sampsa what drivers are you using? Are they Futuremark aproved?

I'm curious 'bout something. Let's say Sampsa has a 7800GTX and he overclocks it to the extreme and the card doesn't work anymore. Does he have to pay for it? or what? Or is/are his card/cards pretested and he is already aware of where the max on the card before he plugs them in?

I really don't know about that. Might be, I wouldn't be surprised. I wasn't given any additional information about what could I expect. Although usually when manufacturing process gets more mature, overclock results tend to get better.

comments: wow o wow todays cpus are such a bottleneck one or two 7800gtx makes no difference! Two 6800u is pratically even with two 7800gtx due to cpu bottleneck! One x800xl is faster(due to better drivers) than any Nvidia card and only slightly slower than one or two 7800gtx at 1600x1200 aa/af!

comments: at 1024x768 the cpu is 100% bottleneck but the x800xl once again is ahead due to ati's better drivers. At 1600x1200 the much more expensive 6800u is only 10% ahead and the 7800gtx is only 18% ahead of the 6800u because its badly being held back by todays cpus so it cant shine. SLI is utterly pointless with todays cpus!

We see a big gain in 3dmark 2003 with SLI, more than 50% but too bad todays cpus hold you back in games so the gains are very small, if any! However one 7800gtx isnt much faster than what an x850xt could get(not shown in review)

SLI is more than useless, it has a 10% cpu overhead so bye bye goes some of your fps! The sad thing is some people dont realize this so they spend $$$$$ on SLI and LOSE performance! The way I see things, dont bother with SLI unless you wanna run 3dmark 2003 and 2005 all day long! There is a difference to the tune of 18%(6800 vs. 7800) but frankly no normal human eye can see a difference, even the x800xl is way overkill!

There are more results but the website is so slow I dont want to bother. If you want a 7800gtx, go ahead, its really only useful for 3dmark 03/05 and other synthentic GPU based tests. Games show small benefits but youd be hard pressed to notice it in actual game play, just benchmarking. Is it really worth $650 for a 7800gtx vs. a $250-300 6800gt(most oc to ultra anyway)for 10-20% more fps in games when a 6800gt just laughs at any game you throw at it?

GF4, the benchmarks are there, people can decide for themselves. We do not need your opinionated analysis of them. And I'm SURE you will be saying an X800XL is overkill once unreal3 and quake4 engines come. I wouldn't be supprised of they murdered 6800 ultras. Hell a 6800GT would have problems running current games in wide screen, max detail and AA/AF.

These cards do seem to be getting nice overclocks, why nvidia decided to release at 430 is strange, you'd think 450 would have been a better bet and then 500MHz for the Ultra's later.

A 500/1400 Mhz 512MB Ultra must surely be on the cards now ?

15633 was graphics cards with stock cooling, FX-55 San Diego with LN2 cooling.

I tried them under LN2 with Kamu but looks like there is a serious cold bug. Also there are some problems with the Coolbits overclocking tool when I'm trying to overclock the cards beyond 525/1380, I get internal test failure all the time and if I somehow manage to get the clockspeeds higher performance drops seriously.

I heard Shamino has similar problems with his cascade.

Actually, a while back, a prototype of the R520 landed at DriverHeaven, with I believe 32 pipes, did 40k with an intel at only 4.3 ghz....both on air...with slight oc on R520...and the 7800GTX couldn't do that with a 3.6ghz FX-55 and 500+/1400+ clocks.

Yes R520 speculation should not be mixed with G70 actual numbers, but there's a reason ppl have such high expectations ;)

The cold bug problem could be caused by the manufacturing process? Or it has to do with the chip design?, I mean, maybe Ati skipped 110nm for their highend parts because they knew the possibility of a coldbug.

s600 looks like a nice one, too luxurious (and expensive) for me :)

Im having the same problems with coolbits, I was able to bench with the mem at 1400 and now it wont pass the internal test. Also been having several other bugs with coolbits.

Either way this weekend Ill plug to my chiller, take the crappy ramsinks and put some real ones :)

Like I already told to OPPAINTER Rivatuner has a secret G70 support. To unlock it you can add the following line to [GPU_10DE] section of RivaTuner.cfg:

NV47 = 90h-9Fh

I could raise the clock speeds with Rivatuner for example to 550/1400 but I faced SERIOUS performance drop (3DMark05 GT1 16 fps...). Let me know if it works for you. I think the problem is related to GPU temperature sensor and throttling. Temperature monitor in drivers won't show below 31C :(

Yes they do have a cold bug, We had to be very careful with LN2 dosage. We could run our FX-55 CPU (0512 San Diego) at 3575 MHz when the temperature of copper container's base was around -60C.

Luckily my friend Kamu has the best LN2 wrist in the world and he kept load temps within 1 Celsius! :toast:

525/1380 was somekind of limit for me. Few times I managed to get it at 525/1390. I hate Coolbits! It's not meant for serious overclocking. There has to be somekind of method to force the clockspeeds :)

Incredible ln2 work guys. I truly appreciate how hard it is to maintain loaded temps within a specific range, while benching..Benching one of the new cold bug fx's has got to be chore on ln2 :)
SLI is going to be very hard for me to do on my own.

I really suggest you to get yourself a co-overclocker for LN2 SLI sessions. It's almost impossible to tweak the settings and try to keep the temperatures stable (in our case 3 containers: CPU, GPU1 and GPU2), Our teamwork with Kamu works great! I can only imagine benchmarking with cascade, just install the evap and start benchmarking, no worry about cooling :D

I assume OPP's FX-55 is 130nm Sledgehammer which has no cold bug. I should try to hunt one of those but unfortunately we have very limited supply for FX-55s here in Finland :(

I think 3,6 GHz could be possible with very careful fine tuning (and I mean 3DMark05 stable, not Spi1m :)

You know geforceti4200 has a point (around post 135) when he says these newer games are very cpu bound. Those results (less fps for SLI !!) make me seriously reconsider buying 2. I still want a next gen card, but now am not so sure whether or not I care to own 2. 3dmarks be damned, these things are expensive! i think it might be a good idea for some people to own an sli board for future proofing, but i ebay my cards when a new one comes out anyway so its not like the ability to add another card in the future is that appealing to me. Anyways, I await more benchmarks to make my decisions, but Farcry and Half-Life 2 are two games I play. Have to see how they do with Alan Wake, Unreal Tournament 2006, and Q4...

You can disable the internal test in rivatuner to force higher clocks. Doesn't it work for the 7800GTX?

This is a known problem with the 110nm process Samspa, it also happens to 6600 series believe it or not. If I use earlier drivers then it goes down to 28-29C but then still does not report lower.

Have you tried powerstrip for overclocking ?

Rivatuner with "Disable internal test" and "Force performance to 3D" I encountered serious performance drop when going above 525/1380.

With Powerstrip I faced even worse performance drop at even less clock speeds :)

5 hours of sleep and back to work.

Probably the limit on air with stock volts then. My 6800u needed 1.7V to reach 525 on air. Try a vmod?

Well.. when I tested the cards between 0C and 38C I was still stuck at 525/1380.

how are you doing? great to see some results from the new 7800gtx cards. Can you get your 2003 and 2001 scores to publish? Have you tried one(two?) card(s) in 2001? That 2001 looks low, kingpin gets more with one x850xt

2001SE was my first run in almost 3 years soI guess 43800 ain't that bad :D

I just installed it and ran it. 0 tweaks used.
