Well, I would say they probably aren't failed 53s, since those aren't good OCers. I could see failed 55's. But I would think there would be more people hitting 2.9-3ghz on air/water than there are. Assuming it's just a failed cache. Looks like 2.75-2.85ghz is what these chips are doing. I'm very interested in finding out what these really are.
With the "rumors" of possible incompatibilty of the Venice/San Diego cores and NF3/4............and surely there will be "bugs" in the introductory phase............I, myself, am good for 2-3 months until these possible issues are made light/resolved(if any) by going this 3500+ Claw/Sledge route.Quote:

So id say its Worth it to try one of these Cpus if they are really this good. 2.8ghz+ on air cooling is Great for 939 cpus. well i think you'll need more then 1.7v to scale past 2.8ghz stable. Then at 1.7v+ your gonna be running a bit Warm id say. so Heat might be a factor. So i think these Chips will TOTALY benitifit Users that could brealy afford Phasechange, but want a Cpu that will scale good. Venice is due on April 4, not "4-8 months" from now. To be honest, I'm not impressed with the 90nm CPUs. They're very unpredictable. In the same week/stepping you can have a CPU only do 2300 then another do 2600, all the luck of the draw. I haven't seen many hard numbers that made me think that SSE3 would improve that much to care at the moment, Anand did that review on the Rev E Opteron and benchmarked SSE3 with what I considered little improvement.Quote:

Could you give us a little information about your source? Nothing specific, just if you're getting this from a AMD insider or from a website or something. Also, someone at the beginning of the thread showed a FX-55 with the same exact stepping and week as the 3500+ they had... wouldn't think support the idea that it could be a FX-55 crippled as well? Also, seeing as how this is just a way of "temporarily getting more stock"... will these chips run out pretty soon? Thanks.Quote:

Yes the FX55 is a CAA2C as well however because of strained silicon used in the FX55 the max. die temperature is different hence it is DEI5AS whereas the 4000+ on non SS is DEP5AS (just as the FX53 was DEP5).

i ordered this ASBOX from newegg on Wednesday and got it on Friday.
Its a CAA2C 0440MPMW... a very early AS stepping it seems compared to the ones that you guys have...
It's a very funny chip...
prime stable at 2.6 ghz with 1.58 volts...
1.6 to 1.8 volts give me no extra head room....
benchable 3d at 3 ghz but not prime stable above 2.6 no matter howmany more volts i give it...
at 2.75 ghz i can run loops and loops of 3dmark2k3 but prime crashes w/in ... 1 minute...
backed it down to 2.6 and everything runs great!
i ordered another one from chiefvalue.com so we'll see if i can get a 05XX like you guys....
hoping to hit 2.8 ghz prime stable :)

As these cpus are merely a way to utilise old cores at Penang naturally they wont last long. I would not expect to see any other fabrication stepping for them either other than CAA2C.

They are not "newer steppings" they were merely assembled later. More than likely they were actually fabricated around the same time.
First of all, I am pretty sure it's a clawhammer core. :)
So far I've done some tests with 1 week 0505, and 2 0506 week 3500+ claws,
and all of them seems to overclock very well :)
All 3 of them are able to load into windows in 2.97g~3G.
Pi stable at around 2.94G~3G.
Used water cooling, and water temp set to 4C.
Look back in the thread and there's a screen shot attached
to one of my posts showing pi stable at 3G :)

yeah unfortunately i will be stuck with the stock HSF for quite some time. :( Not sure if an XP-120 will fit in my Lian-Li V2100 case with the mobo mounted upside down, and my budget for water just went out with the proc/mobo.
Anyone running these on the stock HSF?

Currently 54C @ 1.68v Vcore. Able to load into desktop @ 2.8Ghz. These babies might run better under subzero Temps.
Hmmmm, OK... now im not as tempted. My 3500 NC week 0437 will do 2.7 on air at 1.675. It ran all the benchmarks, but failed prime after 40min. I would have tried more vcore but it was already pretty warm. I need to sort out some temp sensor readings on my Fatal1ty before I up the vcore anymore. So im thinking this chip would not be that much of an upgrade for me.
I agree. if you already have a 3500+ doing 2.7Ghz then there is no point in getting this. you should wait for the E0 core. I have also a 3200+ doing 2.75Ghz. The only diif. is that I can run BH5's 1:1.Quote:

i like the newcastles... i like the 3800+ with the multi options of 12x downwards. 12x multi would come in handy. 3800+ @ 258x12 1:1 DI cooled. 265x12 1:1, who knows ;)

I canceled my order from newegg since they won't exchange my winnie and are making me pay a 27$ restocking fee, I figured mine as well pay 1$ less and get free 2 day shipping with a better success rate for a good clocker, than go through newegg who I'm kinda annoyed at anyways.

OK this is how I look at the name. The entire family comes under the sledgehammer umbrella (3HTs 1MB of L2 cache dual channel) as initially that was what the whole family was called and all other cpus whether clawhammers or Newcastles didnt have something the sledge didnt. By that I mean all other cpus merely has one or more things disabled or reduced to make them. The Clawhammer didnt have 3HTs for example and socket 754 didnt have dual channel.
So these cpus are firstly Clawhammers (1 HT) but turned to 512KB of L2 cache on the 130nm (i.e become Newcastles of sorts). So they are either Newhammers or Clawcastles!
Are you guys sure that it's worth paying nearly $300 for a chip that performs very closely to many ~$150 Winnies ???

There's some consistency, and IMO that's worth paying for. I paid $200 for a 3200+ Winchester that only did ~2300. I'd gladly pay $266 for something that has much more consistency in overclocking.Quote:

I've had my Winnie @ 276x10 DDR552 6-2-2-2.0-1T 3.8v and 345x8 DDR690 7-3-4-2.5-1T 3.1v fully benchable... 3.7v is a brisk for this setup! so I don't know where do you get such information from :confused:

Results are within any normal distribution pattern for those 2 cpus.
Becuase my winnie's mem controller died under 3.5v after a 24 hour burnin. Why do I think the clawhammers can handle it? Becuase I burned in on my FX-53 for 24hours at 3.6v with no problems. Becuase I could run 260x10 on the FX-53, while the winnie could not boot into windows at 1:1 above 210FSB.Quote:

FedEx lets you pick it up at the shipping center after all the delivery routes have returned from delivery (usually ~5-6pm). Otherwise, they'll try and deliver it again tomorrow. They'll give you a little slip that says the time they came by and if you sign the back of it and leave it at your front door it let's them know to leave it there even if no one is home. It's good and bad that they don't automatically leave the packages there. I know UPS always leaves packages at the front door.Quote:
