Actually i was explaining to a friend (he's not a noob in comp) why i wanted the 4 holes if i wanted to buy a mobo and he asked me without kidding why i don't drill them myself!!

I don't think the connector is needed to run the mobo. Some people have been able to run p4 mobo without the additional connector
You need to clarify your Vmem mod on the Abit m/b because it doesn't correlate to Sysfailur Vdimm mod description for the Asus A7N8X. He just uses pin/leg #6 with a 15K pot to ground:Quote:

Yep, you DO can use it allright, but only if your "old" PSU has strong/powerfull "+12V" line - otherwise you'll end with unstabilities and something like "+11.34V" readings on the "+12V"....Quote:

Are you talking about a Vmod for the NF7? If so, it is right above. I quoted it from the previous page to have cpulloverclock re-verify the Vmem mode since it probably only requires one variable pot going from leg/pin #6 to case or m/b ground. He shows 2.
Even the Vcore only needs one from leg/pin #7 to a variable pot to ground. Using a SMD grabber makes it real simple.

My friend said he left it looping benchmarks all night long at 200, and it was rock stable. I am hoping we will be able to test out two 512 MB sticks of XMS3500 this weekend and see what kind of performance it offers in that mode. Hopefully get some 3DMarking done, too :)

Yes, aircooled with SLK-800 (I believe) with 92mm Vantec Tornado strapped on. He was saying his processor OC was up to 2.1GHz, but I don't know if that is stable or not.

Guys my NF7-S hits a brick wall at 188fsb just like in all the reviews. Even with SPD timings, 2.7v I'm not even close to 200fsb. Also the vcore seems to under volt by .5v. When I set my vcore to 1.85 the bios and MBM reports it at 1.8v.
Praetereo, I using TwimMos -5ns winbond chips and a SLK800 also. I need to know where your friends board is made from. Mine is a "Tean TN2". Maybe if we can find a "Yang" board and find out how that performs that would help. Ask your friend the lettering is on the back of the board very small print but its there.
I hope this isn't going to be the luck of the draw with the NF2 chip kinda like the KT400 with data corruption.

Guys this is what I know. I disconnected my hdd and now able to boot all the way up to 230fsb into the bios, Turbo timings cas2, 2,2,7 at 220. This proves a flaw within the board.
I have tried 2 drives, my standby Seagate that loves high FSB and still no go. I have tried the SATA with same results.
I have contacted Abit Marketing to let him know of my situation. I don't think a bios can fix this. I will be getting a pci controller card tomorrow to see if that helps, it should since the board has a pci lock.

Wait a minute! Not necessarily so about the board being the problem. What was the original HD. What about taking crap out and going with the bare mins. Change out the VC. Try a different stick of memory and different slot.

My hardware is great stuff and I know what it can do! Just got off the phone with Abit Marketing from Abit a few moments ago. I told him to try a pci controller since I'm short on one. If this board really has a PCI lock than it should work.

Like any board trace wires, chipsets, IC's, CAPS and so forth can vary in quality. That is why one can do better than the other. That said. What Vcore and Vmem are you using?
The max this board gives is 1.85v vcore and 2.7 vdimm. Yes the latter is low but any of my modules can easily do 200+ relaxed timings with the TwinMos more aggressive timings.
Abit Marketing should be getting back to me shortly. Hope he has good news. Remember what little reviews of this board there are nobody has been able to get over 188fsb with the exception of
Praetereo's friend.

IDE controllers have always been subjective to low PCI bus signal. That is why I like to use a HPT PCI card becasue the newer ones from HPT372 and upwards are designed to handle PCI bus speed up to 66mhz.Quote:

RaxerX, can you tell me exactly where on the board to look for the information you requested? Aceman says he is not seeing it. Also, about the hard drive problem - I know he is running a hefty setup :) I have asked for details for comparison sake, but if my memory serves me, I think he is running three drives. Atleast one is a WD SE with 8 MB cache - I think 120GB. I also know he is not using an add-on card. I hope some of this information will help.

For that high speed run I posted the screenshot of, he said :

I did two passes on the encode and then even cut the DVD including a simulation while still overclocked (kinda forgot I had overclocked it for the encode) So, based on the past few days, I'm pretty much planning on running 200fsb permanently from now on."
His CPU is an XP 1.8GHz.
Also, on the information your were looking for, RacerX, his board is still installed in his case, and he can only see about 75% of the back of it through the frame, and it was not located there. He does not have time to uninstall everything and pull the board out until this Friday, so I should be able to post that information Friday night.
the epox bios now allows upto 250mhz in 1mhz increments...

I Thought the nforce2 didn't have a pci divider. Am i mistaking this with something else, some other bit of information maybe?
Correct there is no PCI divider. I was speaking of the CPU FSB/DRAM. (By SPD, 3/3, 3/4, 3/5, ...)
It's confirmed by ABIT that the PCI is LOCKED for everyones information:)

I've been waiting so long for the real NF7-S, and if it cant pass 188FSB using its very own IDE controller, I will be less than happy.
I don't think it's a PCI issue as far as getting over 188. My board won't boot over 188 even with all IDE devices disconnected. CPU and memory (and hard drive for that matter) has done 206 on a KD7, so I don't think they are the culprit.
I've done the pin 7 mod, and it works. I'm able to get to around 2.0v. Going to try the pin 10 mod just to see how this new controller behaves.

Once I disconnected the IDE drive I was able to boot up as high as 230 with my TwinMos. I find that odd you can't even with everything disconnected. Make sure you have CPU Interface enabled.Quote:

What kind of ram are you running?
Hallowed, I pm'ed ya about whats going on with these boards. I have confirmed with Abit there is a issue within the board. They are not able to get passed 188 either. This has nothing to do with the voltages. I can take my TwinMos at cas2,2,2,5 dual channel at 2.6v. at 188.
I have to admit for 188fsb this board kicks butt. I have tried running my memory around 240 but not really much to bragg about. I want that 200fsb dual channel maxed out and possibly higher. I think to go beyond the 200fsb dual channel Abit will need to increase the voltages or we do our own mod.
I'm sending my board back on Monday. If anyone here as the board might want to give a promise or highpoint controller a try. The pci is locked so that just might be the ticket.
Will be doing just that tomorrow RacerX...my Promise Ultra133 TX2 is awaiting:)

RacerX is correct that they are aware of it. I haven't had my hands on one yet to evaluate and give feedback to them as the next shipments of the "revised" board will not be here until the end of the month, but I sold some of my hardware and ponied up for a first release version to see what I can conger out of it. I'll be reporting back here this weekend.

Your the man Randi. I just killed my NF7. I was trying to see how high I can take my TwinMos in 5:6 mode. I was able to boot up at 480 that rebooted and tried 485 than it froze in bios. Couldn't bring the baby back to life. Unplugged everything, removed battery, tried different cpu, ram, video card, and still nothing.
Oh well atleast now I don't have to pay a restocking fee.:D

Listen up guys....running these boards async is fruitless. We only have certain bandwidth bus to work with which is double pumped ie; DDR. Running the ram faster does not benefit an AMD...and latencies are not the reason. I ran my ram at 233Mhz on the 8RDA+ with a 200Mhz FSB. 466Mhz bandwidth pumping into 400Mhz bandwidth capable bus...it's like a guy with a 46" waist trying to funnel his fat ass into a pair of 36" pants:D
Intel boards can pull this off because their FSB is quad pumped. Look at JC's IT7....500 Mhz bandwidth DDR ram(250mhz) feeding a 180Mhz FSB x 4...or 720Mhz FSB bandwidth. Thats why it works for Intel and not AMD.

The 8RDA+ is a good board RacerX. I'd still be playing with it if I hadn't had a failed VMem mod attempt. Purely my fault indeed.

A friend of ours at TNR (UmeKami10) managed to get to 240 FSB. He said anywhere between 204 and 238 or so and artifacting was God-awful. After booting at 240, there was no screen corruption, drive corruption, anything. So he ran a 3dMark.
It scored less than his run @ 200. Odd §§§§, I know, but this makes the second Epox with a hidden divider.

2- File corruption on this IBM drive start 210fsb to 236 fsb. From 239 fsb it work great.
I paste 2 screenshot. The first one on 200X8.5 =1700 Mhz and second 239X8.5 =2034 Mhz.
Bios setting are default except AGP 2X and Memory setting on cas2 and 4 bank, sound and networking disabled. Everything else is default.
As you see the result of 239fsb is lower than 200 . And as I said there is no problem to run HD drive and Geforce on 239 fsb. How should we interpretate this results.
Is it possible that we got 1/7 divider that automatically start working when PCI buss increases 239FSB ? I put my 5 cent yes there is.
Why the result on 239 fsb is lower than 200 fsb? Well it must be some bug in bios . We should try to find thr register setting in Wpcredit then this board might outperformed the other AMD board in 3D mark?

RacerX, I apologize for taking so long to get the board information you requested. I was able to see my friend Aceman Friday night, and his board is labeled Tean TN2. We were able to run 3DMark on WinXP(SP1) at the following settings: XP2200 @ 1908MHz (9x212) @ 1.8v (that is what his board registered when set to 1.85v). Cooled w/SLK800 and 92mm Vantec Tornado. Two sticks of 512MB XMS3500 (1GB) at 212 MHz FSB Cas2-4-2-2 at 2.68v (2.7v setting). We used a bone-stock Sapphire Radeon at 361/335 with the AGP bus at 66MHz w/8x enabled. The RAM would run at 212MHz @ Cas2-3-2-2, but it would actually perform worse. I forgot to check the command rate with software in Windows, since it does not show it in the BIOS. I assume it to be 2T. Will confirm that soon. Every single onboard device was enabled (SATA, Sound, etc...) and interestingly enough, if we turned the extra stuff off, the system would consistently hang whenever trying to reboot, so we just left it all on :)

Now, here is something interesting:
I have a major problem, and would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. I tried putting my XP2700 in his board, and it absolutely would not be stable at any high FSB. You could even lower the multiplier and raise the FSB to something tame like 190 MHz, and it would not even post. If we were able to get it to post, it would crash a few seconds later. We could immediately put his XP2200 back in and it would be rock stable again. Is it possible that the board is not correctly unlocking the chip, so that when we drop the multipier to raise the FSB, it is causing it to not post? The chip will do 13x193 at max timings in my AT7-MAX. If anyone has any suggestions at all, please let me know.

Praetereo, no problems on the late reply. Tell your friend he is one lucky fella. Its seems he as of now as the only NF7-S that seems to be able to run over 188fsb.
I will RMA this one and I see where I purchased it from than just received another batch, though I'm positive they will not have the 4 holes. Maybe I will get lucky like your friend.
Your friends XP2200 is that a Tbred or a Palomino? All of the sudden your getting crashes and no boots with the XP2700 Tbred. I'd §§§§ my pants if thats been the issue all the long. I knew I should of tried my XP1600 Agoia Y. Dam.
Anyone else running a Palomino on a NF7-S that can confirm this?
His XP2200 is the older core. I will work on my chip tonight so that I will have lower multipliers, and will try again when I see Aceman on Wednesday. Heh, about him having a lucky board - I know! It scares the heck out of me that when I order my NF7-S, it might not perform as well as his :D

2200+ = Tbred A
2700+ = Tbred B
So looks like problems with a Tbred B to me...for now..

that is not true i have seen a few people at overclockers forums w/ 2200+ Palominos they use the AROIA core... they were released a week or so before the tbreds came out and because AMD didnt make too many of them they sold out very fast

Pin 22 on the Winbond W3330 needs to be de-soldered or cut, then a VR set to max soldered between the board trace and Pin 22. I measured 3.22v at the board where the leg was soldered BTW, after the pin was desoldered and lifted away. What happened to me is that the leg broke off flush with the voltage regulator when I gently lifted it up to solder to it. I did not fry the board or the like...it was purely my own error in not being gentle enough.
It is basically the same mod as the ABIT BD7...except this newer version of the Winbond voltage regulator has more Pins than the previous. If anyone pulls this off successfully let me know...I started writing a guide on it....but at the moment am attempting an RMA:)

But the bios chip is toast so not really booting up at the moment. Should be seeing a replacement chip in a few days.

There is some uncertainty on that one....as the eta for 2nd rev boards was the end of the month. I also saw NewEggs eta ealier today. Let me contact my ABIT guy and get back to you on this:)
