Listen, I don't pass along advice without having some knowledge of the situation my friend, if I mention such things its because I don't want to see guys unknowingly destroy hardware. I know we are in the heat of competitiveness.....its not that I was trying to prevent you guys from getting ahead, its that I wanted my competitition to stay around longer than 1 day:DQuote:

My card back to live!!! I uninsulated putted the stock cooler it is now working.
I'm back guys!!! I'm gonna kick ya asses!!!:D

Mr icee , it's time to get your iron solder :D
You're not alone

Nice job misteroadster:toast::up:
But the Captain's a tad curious why it took 300mhz more on the CPU to equal scores? Never-the-less a great effort on your part indeed.
I won't be doing any soldering till my review's done, but damn my man, its one thing to score but the same score:D I may not have to solder, just phase change my cpu to equal your speed or better.
skate, great to hear your cards ok, but still be careful with the volts:)
Onwards and upwards my friends !
Randi:D
Stock cooling? No wonder the card is no longer among us :p: How high did the temps go? I had 80C load under normal vcore and using stock cooling. Now with water and triple radiator I have 41C Max load.Quote:

yeah well i could max run 585 with the door open and maybe 10c room temp, hmm i think after 30min benching the temp was 84c without the door open, what card would you chose between the x700pro or a sparkle 6600gt?Quote:

Mr.Icee I have full faith in you :D
Just realised I don't have enough tubing + anti-algae to drain the setup and change tube length to take it out of the case :(
EDIT: Sparkle 6600GT and then modify the cooling solution, though without the use of arctic epoxy , nudge nudge :stick: Andy :D
Nice nice nice, congrads my friend:toast:
I can't afford to destroy my card before I finish the review, so later this week I'll give the benching more attention. You know I'm just busting you I hope, great job mister !!
Randi:D
PS. I'll take the challenge, lower your cpu to 10x260 and put me away:D
i know you card is a gem ;)
My cpu is a 3000+ , only 9X :D
Thx Mr icee :toast:
This will be an interesting challenge to watch :)Quote:

I bought them in paris.
There's a lot of computer shops near of my home.
Mr icee, with your VC frequency i'll have a poor score , i assume you're a good nvidia optimiser :toast:
Or The DFI is a wonderfull board.
May be Twice :D
i know the dfi nf4 atleast has a 9:10 multi option. just do 9x289, 9:10 for the ram to be at 260mhz. ;)Quote:

Impressive DDR clock , don't you know ? :D
hmm, i must have missed it, what cooling is on your 6600gt that is allowing it to get its ram up so high?
you've got over 100mhz ddr above me, and i thought my ram was insane. ;)
just a good waterchiller :D
but the ram just benefits from the waterchiller cooling the ambient temp? and some vmods, right?
no vmods for the ram , ambient temp about 15°.
Excellent mister:toast:
Have you volt modded that card ? Excellent clocks my man, but I must tell you I made a run at 720Mhz core last night;) Not ready to post scores tho as I want to see how far it will go before I'm at the end of the rope. I've had such fun with you guys competing in this class, this is what its all about ...FUN !!
No cascades or big $, just a bunch of average guys with mid range stuff running water or chilled water.
Outstanding run at 2600Mhz mister, I knew you had the ability to pull it off and get close or beat me:D
Randi:D
:toast:
Yes my card is volted to the max i could , i'm at the limit of the OVP, if i turn just a little , screen becomes black.
No doubt, there is an OVP.
My card is not the Gem yours is , for sure :(
I doubt my ram can compensate , we will see that if i can have any DFI toy.
hm... makes you wonder how far a 6600gt could go if it were in the hands of someone with a cascade...
and 580-610mhz -> 700-720mhz is a nice increase from stock air -> water. does kinda seperate the classes though... for those of us who dont have any fancy cooling at all.
To be honest, we don't need cascades in this class. Let them stay with the high end stuff. To be able to have tons of guys competitive in a class like this is absolutely great:) I hate to see it become a class of the privledged few.
Randi:D
With "only" 1.55V... I have to tweak my OS a little bit too... Plus ACPI tweak and all that....

Congrats to Misterroadster on the second outrageously overclocked 6600GT. Also to skate for resurrecting his card.
I still cannot get the heatsink off this card, however it is fun watching at ringside .. ding ding round 2.

Very nice Mathieu:)
Don't worry about us benching right now, just make sure you've scored all the points you are capable of:D
There will be good things to come soon:up: First to 12,000 is a rotten egg;)
Randi:D
Damn nice scores from all of you guys! :D
One thing about the vAGP, what sort of voltages are you guys running? have you seen any improvements running it more than 1.5v ???
Have stuck at about 652/1.22ghz with my xfx 6600gt agp on water no vmods. Will i see any differences in mem or clock overclocking by raising the vagp?
Cheers,
B
I'm working on that 12K too.... Maybe 1.8V will do the job?:D
And you have good clocks Byron.... That card on my chiller and Vmodded would do very high. And you wont see a Video Card overclock difference by raising that voltage.... It will help high FSB on Intel platform tought..
Oh i see... well on my intel rig which i've this card running i didn't see any stability differences even at 1.5 or 1.65 it is stable 24/7 at 4.16ghz (preskot on water, cpu:ram -> 1:1) :S
Waiting to see ur card m8 pissing over the 6800gt's :D (thumbs_up)

Very nice work Skate :slobber:
Thanks man! Appreciated:)

holy... congrats on the highest nature score with a 6600gt. ;) beating 2nd highest nature by about 6fps, i think...
Yeah, that Nature is high.... I think I did one of 2FPS higher thought...
This is soooo cool.... you guys dueling it out with 6600gt's, hehehe....

I wonder if PCie 6600GT's overclock better than AGP because they do not have the bridge chip or Molex circuitry ? Has oneone reading this got more than 650Mhz with an AGP card ? Mine goes south at 635-640....

3. zakelwe
I think I might change my name to "MeesterFrostysnow" as there is obviously some link with the types of names and top scores.

man... single card benchin is so fun, its sucks that with the orb u cant really track the top places in 03 and 05 with single cards
i think we at XS should make our own little orb for single card benches like andy started, except with links and clock speeds etc.
i may be able to work on a thread like that for tomorrow :)
I think what is hitting my score a little is that I dunno how to enable fastwrite on Nvidia...:(.
And I cant use win2000 since I dont have it and wont buy it since it is additionnal costs for a few points that would make the game not as fun:D.
Try enabling it in BIOS and then using rivatuner ....Quote:

PCI-E cards don't have a fast write option that I have been able to find:)

I think Gainward jsut pretty much screwed up with the 6600GT, havent seen any Gainward over 650 yet, regardless of cooling.Quote:

As an aside, how does altering the PCIe bus alter the scores, especially in 05 ? I believe they can go from 100 to 145MHz ????Quote:

Gocchin seems to be rma ing a card he blew to smitherines ( tut tut ;) :D ) Mr roadster seems to have disappeared so that leaves skate and Randi for the moment. Juliette and me are suffering from Gainward GLH ( Goes Like Ho Hum ).
I could try my MSI 6600GT but that means I'd have to break a promise, yet again, and forsake a games card for benching. Which means the MX4000 is the gaming card. And that ain't quick enough for multiplayer Solitaire .....
Regards
Andy
Charlie you gonna join?
:D That is really good, finally something to make me happy. Yeah, I'm gone for a while, have to write a review of the card for czhardware.com, so I'll play on the weekend. Unfortunately we do indeed suffer from the "Goes Like Ho Hum" syndrome so ramping clock speeds above 650 no matter what volts sounds like a mere prayer than reality. Seems like Gainward really got their cards right this time :stick:Quote:

anyone know the heat output/power cosumption of 6600GT's?
would i be able to cool and oc'ed one with a 80w TEC (on a maze4)?
Juliette, YGPM ;)
I'm pretty sure the Tec will handle it... But a 15XW would be better...
isnt 75W the limit for a pci-e card, with no connector straight from the psu to the graphics card?
so i guess that means its under 75W?

AFAIK, the GPU wattage is not determined by the bus connector. It is the GPU itself that draws the wattage, it could do 200W even if its on PCI-e (although, no company looks for 200W;))

I think I have a good idea what the card is :) I wanted to originally get that but they havent been in DK for the last 4 months since they showed up on the webiste.
Randi, age doesnt matter, in your case its an advantage as you've forgotten more than we know (my math teacher's quote). I'm 16, I began on a Commodore64, and last year I finally got a job that allows "minor" upgrades every 6 months. I know my low age might be of resent to some, but I'm glad the hardware expenses kept me off the stuff some friends are doing
Perhaps my social life isn't party every day, but I have retained my sanity and self-respect, and that's what counts for me :)
I still haven't got a clue what the 5000 run card is.
I'm 37 as an aside.
When's this review going up, to put me out of my misery ?
Regards
Andy
Andy:)
I'm hoping sometime next week on the review, we have many in the pipeline but I think this will get squeezed in between others:)
I have 2 of these cards, and can tell you # 2 is not near as good as # 1. 650Mhz on the same cooling setup is about max. I have a # 3 arriving today as a backup, as if I kill one before my SLI testing for the review I won't be SOL:D
Randi:D
You are a lucky man Randi. 650 is still good compared to mine and Andy's Ho Hum cards :(
yeah lol dont even wanna talk about my card...Quote:

Randi, looking forward to the review. My card did 607 with stock volts and improved heatsink , then only 635-643 with 1.65-1.7v, so your 650 is still better. I think I might check out the forums to see if anyone has managed a good overclock on an AGP version, or maybe Juliette and I have just had the luck to get average or poor to average cards. ( I can never remember if Juliettes is AGP or not, but I think it is).
You mention having a backup for the SLi rig, good idea. This is another reason I am not keen on SLi, you have to be lucky "twice" to match the cards up rather than once. It must be frustrating to have an exceptional card and average card so their is always the temptation to keep buying and selling till you get a pair. Sounds like a money drain. Then if you lose one you have to do the same all over again ..argh. More grey hairs on my head.
So I think I will stick to single cards and do maybe 6200 turbo cache and perhaps 6500/ 6700 etc when they come out. If Pcie do better than AGP then I will have to move over I guess. Certainly for turbocache I will have to. Those little cards really interest me because they use system memory and will benefit from an extra tweak on PCie bus I am sure. The more variables the better. And they are cheap.
My replacment 939 MSI arrived today and so swapped it over with the dead one and everything is working fine, managed a 26k on the 5800 and so as good as the old.
I have a new sig, I have put up some of my nvidia scores in a table to show how scores have increased through nvidia's history, see below. The 5600U was on my old Abit 754 Via Max3 ( now there was a fairly difficult board to bend to your will) with 1MB 3200 so the score is a bit down. The others are fairly comparitive though. The GF4 and 5700U really stand out.

Andy
