Well done guys, these are looking really good. I know I'll be interested in a couple. :D
I hope so :D
Is there any chance of making a Linux kernel module for th G-Froster, and a little application for it? Linux users need extreme cooling too!!
As any linux user knows, you can do your own programs for it :D, if you are willing to buy a unit and do it yourself, count on our help
I'm not gonna spend time just to write a serial driver for it, and a program to interface it. It will require me to have the internal programming of the gfroster, to see what functions it uses.
Well, that was an idea, we offer our help, but if we have to do software for any OS available, the controllers would be too much expensive.
I disagree, I think that if you (or someone) would create a program so that you could have linux compatibility, you could use it as a major selling point, and since the linux comunity is for the most part open source and volunteer effort, I"m sure you could find someone to give you a hand. writing a program for compatibility with other OS's shouldn't raise the price, it opens up new markets for you, creating mosre ciustomers to buy your product :)
that said, it's a personal choice, your controller, your software, your choice, if you would prefer to jsut sell to the windows-using comunity, and not bother with other os's that don't have as much of a customer base, thats your decision :)
I dont want to argue with you
It's simple, there you have a Linux user, we offer our help, but he dont want it.
The controller is fully configurabble with or without software, cause it has his own front pannel. there arent a big market for controllers, nobody is gonna be rich with this, and is more like a hobby, so yes, we dont have time to do a linux soft, I think Asetek or promie maker neither, and they are fully commercial companies.
we do our best effort to bring a good product, if anyone wants to invest money in this, then we will see linux, win 3.1 or whatever the investor wants :D.
Much commends on your work.Quote:

I'd hit it..
I didn't noticed to be posted allready, but what are the outer diametres of LCD, i am doing the case now and want to know how big of a hole do i have to do, really planing on buying this later. (i mm please)
I will send you a pm later, with the diameter of the LCD (X version) and 7 segments (value)Quote:

I like the way you get everybody crazy on youre nice lcd's.... Man what a piece of art. If i get my custom phch i really want a g-froster!
Oh boy, this project is looking awesome. I'll see if there's any interest in South Africa, I might buy a couple, ontop of mine :) to send home for my mates.
Looking good and keep it up!
First step finished, 2 final and reliable products.
Second step, to do a new G-Froster Xe controller: USB, change to K type probes, and other surprises already in development.
It would be great to count with any kind of economical support :(
Well, maybe if you buy them. :D
beautiful fronts...
NO worries I am sure that there will be a demand once we get teh controllers out there.
I will need a few right off for a couple projects I am working on.
any idea what the expected price range will be? you could start taking deposits now to help fund the manufacturing of these
10 frosters value are in transit to Chilly1, and a pair of frosters X (full version) being made , if you want a quote on them, send a pm to Chilly1 or me.Quote:

Looks great, couple questions:
Any further development on a USB interface?
How many thermal probes can the unit monitor?
Can it control more than 1 fan?
It will take a while for the USB interface, but it is in development.
The "X" version can monitor up to 4 thermal probes (comes with one, but you can order the extra probes).
The "X" version can control 2 fans. (2 120mm panaflos for ex.)
It can handle up to 12wQuote:

Is the fan control based on PWM or turning the voltage up and down?
Can you control the fans based on temp ranges of specific temp probes?
This could be a very useful controller in the watercooling world too... ie if you can get a temp probe into the water loop and control the fans on your rad based on the temp of the water.
The fan is controlled by PWM.
The incoming firmware will have an option to set the fan speed based on the evap temp.
We are thinking of making controllers for WC... as always the main obstacles are time and money.
Isn't that the truth. Well my hat is off to you guys on your work, very impressive.Quote:

no, G-Froster value has no communications port.
ok, how much is one? around 100?
Please PM chilly1 for a quote if you are in USA
PM Ssilencer or me from other countries.
i already talked with chilly1, i just wanted to know how much it would cost if i wanted to put one into my case.
We cannot give you quotes here (against the rules), if you talk with chilly1, he can give you a price quote by pm.Quote:

Well, the first page was a long time ago, in a galaxy far away...
Could you update the first post to have specs and pictures relating to each version please?
Thanks
Dont worry, that is the only difference, I will update the first post now
I have a value unit on it's way from chilly1 to the uk.
Do they come with install instructions as i will have to install it my self.
Does the value unit include a probe ?
if not will it require calibration
The value unit comes with thermal probe.
I will post installation diagrams later for all of you G-Froster customers ;)
yess btu chilly1 ussualy instals the probe before hand into the evap. wrapping.
Thanks Ssilencer, after thinking about it i guess it's not that difficult but it would be good to be sure.
Is there any way to power a 12v fan on the value unit and then just use a fan controller.
How do you set the defaults on the start temp ect.is there any way it can be changed later if i had the correct equipment.
To use a 12 V fan you can use a relay to start/stop the fan wihtthe unit.. If you need as relay PM me and I will send oyou one I got bunch from a company I bought out.. used but working.. ice cube relay///
The value doesn't controll fans, the X model control fans by evap temp, or you can set it in windows soft.
I know it does not have a fan controller but is there 12v on the value card i could use to power a fan.
thanks chilly1 but i have a relay i used to switch a water pump on if not can get them local.
I do have a 240v papst typ 4650n fan i could use but it's a bit of a beast.
on a side note the compressor arived tuesday :toast:

that can be done. but you are gonna need an extra temp probe to do so.
Golden_eagle can you do a quick connection guide to the froster value.
My unit arrived today from chilly1 :woot:
edit: dont worry chilly sent them via email :toast:
Good
I'm not in my pc, cause is being worked on the new single stage "MCT, the mother of all singles", the beauty beyond your words, the master of disaster, etc etc etc :D
I hope we can make it run at least for a wile :p: LOLQuote:

windows interface.
Much appreciated :)
I'm not in my pc right now, you can contact me at msn msporta@cvtci.com.ar, and we can talk about it and send you the firmware update tomorrow.
Are you having trouble the 3 minutes restart? I'm using 3 minutes in my own build without trouble, but with the new firm and sioft you can change it to whatever you want.
Also, make sure you have a 12v fan, so you can control the fan speed with the froster X.
Do you have any pics or you can share with us your experience with the controller
Hi Ssilencer. i haven't installed anything yet, i am just following what Chilly1 said in one of his PM's to me about the G-froster unit. The 3minute start is no problem, but what is a good enough low temp. to start the computer? Is -10c acceptable? I believe this is the same as the Vapochills.
It probably depends on what your chip needs to perform the overclock you want.
Yes, sureQuote:

I would go by -5c from hottest temp of evap the system will ever see :P Gives you some room while compressor is working up to temp and you won't crash in middle of booting up :)Quote:

Golden , SS or chilly,
The value froster i have does not match the instructions chilly sent.
on the instructions it shows on the left side the probe , 5v monitor and 9-12vac connections but on the one i have it only has 2 connections.
the right side has pwr switch and mobo switch plus compressor on in the instructions and mine has a 3rd 2 pin conector.
is this the 5v monitor ?.
what is the jumper for and the 5 pin header.
i have a 12v ac 250ma transformer is this ok to power the froster.
What is the best way to attach the probe to the evap head drilling a small hole.
sorry for all the questions just want to make sure i dont damage it.
How exactly is the GoldenFroster controlling powering up/down the machine? Are you plugging the PSU's AC cable into the back of chilly's unit? Or is it running a wire up inside the machine to where the psu connects to the mobo?
Thanks

The jumper is for select Centigrades or Farenheit
A 12v ac 250ma is not apropiate, you need a 9v AC 500mA
Forget about the 5 pinheader, it was just to program.
Any other question, you can contact Golden by PM
That is a good way to attach the thermal probe, you can also stick the probe with a thermal epoxy.
thanks Ssilencer that covers everything.
I have a small 12v dc psu pcb that i am going to use for a 12v fan and will get a 9v 500ma ac transformer for the value froster.
can we have some pics of the Lm335 probe, and its construction.
How are you insulating it, i dont want the probes legs to rust in time hehe
is that a beab probe, or an ic page, to memory they come in a few different forms/packages
Lemme make guess... TO-92 :PQuote:

G-Frosters comes with one LM335H IC probe.
This is the package
More info in the manufacturer datasheet
PD1: Im working on the new firmware. I´ll let you know when it´s ready.

Also do you have a manual or instruction booklet on how to connect the

is a serial port, the other is a 2pin male connector i ground to start the count
down on the unit. The molex i believe is for the fan, but the others i'm lost.
I send pic to show. Thank you for any info on this, i think ur Golden -Froster
rivals that from ASETEK. :)
Sorry for the newbness

Molex goes to any molex on your psu, it gets the reading of the 5v to protect your computer.Quote:

the last one is the serial port, well, conect to yopur serial port so you can upgrade firmare and get and send info to the froster.
my msn is msporta@cvtci.com.ar so you can get the beta software and firmware update.
Hey thanks for your response Ssilencer i have another wire i forgot to snap.
It's blue and white, pic shown. Is this ur e-mail or messenger, i couldn'r get

It's a Polycold Autocascade modded by Chilly for DOD use. I don't have any info on the unti basides the fact that it's 240V, but it was previously owned by Charlie and Chilly did all the work on it. A controller would be awesome since this is basically a switch-on-and-go unit right now. I'd be interested in the full version of course....PM me if we can do this :toast: Thanks.
We can do whatever you want ;) just do a list of features and send it to me by pm.Quote:
