How much can an overclocked FX-55 do? :D
If only I can set up my other rig...stupid Linux.
Quite a few would be my guess, how big of an overclock
jjcom
Like 100%. I'm guessing a LOT!!
Someone awhile back I think was using an FX-53 and they figured out how many aday they were doing...something like 200 I believe...or was 250...I can't remember

Candidates? Cause that's a lot!!! Man, I'd love to get my other rig up. But stupid gkrellm isn't detecting temps...
OK,I got a question that I havn't seen the answer for.I installed it on a twin amd setup. I installed 2 instances of D2Q in different folders. it seems that only 1 is starting.WHAT did I do wrong? I've looked and looked but the instructions for a twin setup are not very clear.(Glad I'm not tring to do it on a linux system!)
sounds like its trying to run both on CPU0 rather than D2OL on CPU0 and D2OLa on CPU1. Not really quite sure how to make it run correctly everyboot up. Can you move the task to the other processor
jjcom
Did u use Rodzilla's easy installer? Did u install it in 2 differernt places (ie C: and C:/new folder) or something like that. The twin amd, is it opteron or just xp?
Twin xp. I installed in C and in D,OK got them running.
I'm just gonna run this system to see what it's like. May convert more over later, just depends on how things work with it.The twin Op's will stay on fad.Just ordered parts for 6 twin intel systems. It all depends on how things run with it
Welcome to the team, Plum! I noticed your name in the Free-DC stats site; coming in at team member position 110.
Not sure who 109 is, but welcome to you, too.
Scott
hey, could you try out D2OL on your dual Opteron? No big deal if you can't, a few questions have come up lately about how many cans one of those can do
thanks
jjcom
What did you do to solve it? Maybe it can help someone else in the future?Quote:

D2Q? you mean D2OL?Quote:

This issue has been resolved and only applied to the community account installers. It's perfectly safe to use them... that applies to the personal node installers as well.
If you are worried about any lack of support from using the installers, Don't worry. As for kb9skw's comments at the end of the thread... He doesn’t represent D2OL... He's a member of team Ars Technica and I know for a fact that my installer has been used there...
He cannot act without prodigious being he is on a team that is soon to be steam rolled by XS ;)
So fear not about support... There is more than enough knowledge here so that you will never need to touch the official D2OL boards. And if you must seek help at the D2Ol forums you will get help. There not going to refuse to support there own app. That would just be silly.
sorry,I meant D2OL. I'm not worried about support here,I meant being a newbie to D2OL and reading the responce from the D2OL admin made me think of the old UD days.Sorta like shut up an don't bother us.
I was researching info on the program there as I did here. The better I understand it the better I can make it work per system.
I have a problem. I try to manually update D2OL, and it says that it has an error connecting to the server. I'll wait the 6hours and see if that changes. Any ideas y?
I tried connecting a couple hours ago and got the same thing. Looks like the servers are down atm.
I confirm this... I have buffers! :DQuote:

My questions are:
1. Can I use those processors to build a PC-DL workstation. ASUS recommends processors 1.8GHz and above to be used.
2. Can you overclock a 1.73V processor like this type of xeon?
3. Besides 1.6GHz LV processors, what other processors can you use on this motherboard? Are 603 pin processors working? Can you overclock them?
Thank you all for your time.
No, don't get those. Those would be Willimate based meaning 180nm. So their pretty old processors. I don't know if they would work in that board. They're pretty old chips so I'm not sure if ASUS supports 'em
jjcom
Those chips are not LV... and if they are 603 they will not work in this board... get the 1.6GHz LV chipsQuote:

The board is officially a 604 pin board...
I'm not sure if 603 chips will work in it or not. Someone will be able to answer this better than I.
Again I got a couple of questions.
Those with 15 or more systems networked have any problem with D2OL slowing down the network when uploading? I have several that is slowing down my satillite hookup when uploading.
And what is the best air cooler setup for the PC-DL mb.
D2OL uses very little internet bandwidth.... It shouldn't be slowing it down. i would schedule all of your nodes to upload/download at once if you are having problems...Quote:

I have 1 node that will still download and work, but they are not uploading.
Is there a way to manually up load or a file to save and reinstall so I don't lose my candidates ?.I have the whole folder saved and allready know how to restore the node (node.prp).
First off... <<<<Congratz on the new baby!!!!!!!!! :toast:
Yes you can manually upload... i take it that you are running it as a service.
If so then...
Go to the service manager (Right click on your My Computer icon on the desktop and select Manage. At the bottom you should see Services...) Stop the XS_D2OL1 service.
Now go to the task manager and stop the Gridwin.exe (or Dockwin.exe) Do it for all of them if you used a multiple node installer (XS_D2OL1, XS_D2OL2 ect.)
Now go to the "C:\XS_D2OL\D2OL1\D2OL" and open D2OL.exe. this will start it in the sys tray...
Right click on the sys tray icon and select Status. There you will see "Manual update"
----------
If you are just running it as normal then just right click on the sys tray icon and select Status. There you will see "Manual update"
Ok tried that and this is what I get
Error Uploading task results. 0 of 388 were successfully upploaded
Error talking to servlet
Info:Response code: 500. response msg: internal server error
Is there a folder that has my cands in it that I can copy to a new install ?
Unfortunatly no...
It sounds like you have a software firewall blocking it. Disable the firewall and try it.
What firewall are you using? Are you using a router? If it's a router, that may be a problem. It also would depend on your firewall software.
Nothing has changed on my network or machine ...I did no updates...same router settings as was using.I even copied to a different machine and it works the same way ?
It just started buffering,it will download the totall queue size and dock and comform just will not upload.
O well time to reinstall a new copy and get back to 100% production
I saved the folder to try and play around to get my 388 back
You live real close to me... burn the installation to CD and mail it to me... PM me if you are interested and I'll send my mailing address.
I'm sure I can get that uploaded for you...
Better yet... zip it and e-mail it to me!!!! SRodman at mchsi dot comQuote:

A: The only port D2OL uses to communicate with our servers is port 80. However, there are two comman ports that work as loopbacks. One random port that will open in order to connect the engine with the GUI and another that exists to communicate with screensaver mode. These ports never access the internet and only exist locally. While they may report false hits on a local software firewall, a hardware firewall will not see this activity.
ok, I'm sure this has been asked before and it's a good bet it's somewhere in all these stickies at least twice.. but I'm at work and don't have time to search... :stick:
What exactly are "nodes"? Is it good or bad (or doesn't it matter) to combine multiple crunching rigs under 1 node?
nodes are the instances of D2OL that youve registered under your name. You can make multiple instances one node and it wont make a difference.
ok 1 more newbie question... how often does the client upload result by default on an always-on internet connection? does it do it as soon as it finishes one?
It's set to upload every 6 hrs.Quote:

Unfortunately no... :( You will have to just watch your stats and tweak little by little.Quote:

I hate F@H now. I used to do it. Too much competition. Takes up a lot of ram. And I think XS still does.
The only problem I have with F@H is that you don't own your work... the team you are on does. And actually it's the person that starts a team that owns it.
Not fun in case you want to move around or if the team decides to go in a direction you no longer wish to follow.
this is true, i really loved SETI, u did get to own your work but i couldnt find a team i liked to i got out of it and came to D2OL
Phoenix Rising was my SETI@Home team and the place where I really got into the online world. That team was the absolute best around 4 or 5 years ago right after they formed. Now I'm just not into SETI@Home or BOINC so I put all my resources into medical type projects. D2OL is one of the easiest DC projects I've run. It's very handsoff which is nice. ;)
And a great benefit is that you help out people. :) I'd rather help instead of search for aliens. :D
Yea we still have a team for F@H... but D2OL is way more popular here... Our F@H team is all but dead :(
Right now my Athlon XP-M, which I have running at 2Ghz, is out performing my P4 3.06Ghz (HT enabled) with two instances. Does that seem right?
Has anyone noticed that while running D2OL certain things are kind of choppy, ie trying to change the screen saver?
Also is it better to run 4 instances on a dual xeon with HT or 2? Would two AMD 2800+ Sempron computers perform better than a single dual xeon 1.6GHz (maybe running around 3Ghz) machine.
Thanks.
my sempron 2200+ @ stock outperforms my p4 520 @ 2975MHz (two instances) as well
A dual Xeon Machine would out perform 2 Semphron rigs... an Xeon rig would probably cost less too.Quote:

How many candidates are your Sempron rigs putting out? I'm a bit shocked that they are doing more than your P4?
A program called D2OL Daddy will fix that.Quote:

Yeap it's a 533MHz(133Mhz) bus chip and I do have the XP-M(2400+) running at 200Mhz.
It would seem that D2OL Daddy won't work as a service... you have to run it manually from the "C:\XS_D2OL\D2OL Daddy" folder...Quote:

That should fix it.
little question here:
Where can i check how many candidates i have completed so far?
The "status-window" tells me i completed 108 cands, but it seems as if my last upload (22 tasks) isn`t included.
On free-dc.org it shows me (nick silence) the "right" number of 130 cands and my last update of 22.
So is it a bug or something?
Which number of cands is right?
do you have 2 instances running or one? The status window shows how many cands have been completed by that particular node
Only one instance installed and running :stick:
my sempron puts out just over 100 a day. smae with the p4. it is close, but the sempron gets like 2 or 3 more. the sempron just crunches all day though, i dont touch it. i use the p4 as my main computer, so i am on it alotQuote:

Is it that D2OL Daddy won't work as a service or that it can't change the priority of the D2OL.exe process or DocWin.exe process when they are running as a service? I've notice that when these processes are running as a service I can't even manually go it and change their priority. If I don't run them as a service it's not a problem though.
No... it's D2OL Daddy. It dosn't work as a service. If you run it manually in the sys tray it works fine with the Agents running as services.Quote:

You can use DSpy to see when you last uploaded if you have it running as a service...Quote:

ahh ok.. the stats server is down.. i thought i missed something because i thought it was time for an upload
thanks
Am I missing something.... it runs fine on my dually xeon rig as a service. When did this come about?Quote:

Rodzilla, is there any way to manipulate the D2OL daddy, so more ram is used?
Does this mean more production?
D2OL Daddy isn't open source... so don't go getting yourself in trouble or we all get to laugh at you and publicly stone you :DQuote:

If anything it would be cool to find a way to make D2OL use less RAM... that way you can safely run it on a PC with limited system resources...
Ok here's my noob question :D
I'm a ex-folder (I fold for about 1year and a half) and I quitted folding for 1 reason only: internet use. I'm on dial-up and I have only one phone line at home that also serve as business line. The problem was that folding was quite using my phone line with 3 p4 rig running 24hr/7days.
So what about D2OL?? Is it the same? Did it send and receive a lot of data or not? Remember, I'm on dial-up and 1MB file is A LOT of data for me!! :dammit:
If you upload every 6 hours then it won't be too bad....you could upload only on the weekend maybe? I'm on dialup as well and it doesn't seem to bad, unless the server had gone down and i'm stuck uploading 300+cans or something. But normally it doesn't seem too bad
jjcom
Something you could do is set your quene size to 2000, and run the node offline till the weekend and then upload. What system are u running it on?
Ok then it's not the same as folding! Because with folding, if I do not upload, the work stop.
My system is a winnie @ 2700mhz with 1 gig of ram.
My Winnie at 2.6 does about 140-150 per day. If you set your queue size to 2000 that would mean you'd ned to connect once every 13 or 14 days. That upload would take a bit, but you'd only need to connect then.
Well then here I go!
hi, would like to join team, do i pick EZ installer community account? After install i then register? Is node # provided automatically? Any tips would be appreciated.I will chose 2x.for my system.Thank you.
(as you can probably tell alot of unused cycles going to waist here) DSL connection.
If you want to register your own node you have to use the personal installer.
thanks, never could find where to register nodes? had 2 icons by clock opened up & got node # saw no place to register. Rebooted now no icons but services say there running. I used personal installer.
If you used the personal installer it should have accessed you for an email address, did it do that? If not are you sure you didn't use the community one? If you did enter an email address then you have to go to www.d2ol.com and register a new user then you can add the node you created.
checked it was personal installer, must be doing something wrong i never see prompt for e mail registration
It might be that i used community install first, read your post uninstalled community & installed personal. Might be crossed up there.should i Uninstall from from program or use add-remove?
Thanks for helping, i did not remove first install properly all's good now.
What happened? What went wrong?Quote:

ok,i can do that. If i have 2 is it right that i can run 1 all the time & 2 when i'm not using comp.
You can use both all the time. They are set to low priority so as soon as you start using the PC D2OL moves out of the way and you get all the CPU cycles you need. Be sure to use D2OL Daddy too.Quote:
