Welcome to XS and very much welcome to our team, if you have any questions, just give a holla!!!
Just joined the team, I will also get 2 other computers folding soon :)
Welcome to the team Rick :toast:
Regards
John.
The points (credits) given for each project consist of our score, right?
Eric
Hi Eric,
Yes thats correct, as soon as you complete your first wu the score will show up here:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/m...&teamnum=36362
Regards
John.
I DL'd and started folding last night. But I'm not sure how I join this team?
I think this is a great idea, and am dedicating my cycles to my Father in law, who is a cancer survivor
TY
Creeper
Hi VaCreeper, just add our team number (36362) to the team selection box. Right click the client, select configure, add our team under team number and click OK.
On behalf of Pythagoras and the crew Welcome to the team!!!
Done!
After folding for awhile I get an error, "abnormal system halt" or something along that line. I have to shut the program down and restart.
What's up with that
Is the program crashing my system, or vice versa?
Please advise.
TY
Creeper
Your system is not stable and the program is detecting that. It likes the system it's running on to be stable. I don't want to start a discussion here on this but is your computer Pi stable 32m? If you need some help post in the AMD section and the guys including me can assist you. If I chat about it here Pythagoras will beat me with a wet towel....(j/k he's a very nice guy)
Thanx for the quick reply. I'm OCCT stable, and game stable but lemmie run SPi @ 32 and I'll get back with you.
TY
Creeper
Nah Ugly, I reserve my beatings for much more serious transgressions :D Helping in here with this would probably help other members too.
Regards
John.
By dropping my multiplyer to 243 I can pass 32m/SPi.
Back in the game!...I hope
TY
Creeper
WTG! I find systems that are 32m stable will usually run the F@H app.... it's just that kind of application....
Ok! Now how do I get the team logo in my sig
TY
Creeper
You need to put the team logo in your sig yourself. Right click on the sig and select properties and then copy and paste it in your sig.
Me and UnG are extremely grateful for your presence on the team, we where the oldest members...................but not any more :D
Regards
John.
So now who's the oldest
BTW, your only as old as you feel. :toast: :woot: :D
Creeper
That Sir would be yourself :) :toast: :banana:Quote:

Hey guys.. I'll be doing a lot more folding now that its starting to get cooler out. Nothing like having the windows open @ 40*f
wow :) that's chilly! yeah there's nothing like free cooling ! I am adding two more CPU's this week myself, I retired another Athlon MP server, it might as well fold....
Hi, I just entered the team about 5-10 minutes ago. So far I only have a pitiful XP 1800+ @ 2400+ on it, but I'll add my new X2 3800+ to this soon enough :)
I have a question though, It's been about 10 minutes, yet I'm still at 0 out of 1000000 steps...Why ?!?
Edit : Forget this ^^
Also, I'll format this computer soon and will give it to one of my friend...Is there any way to actually take my account back on my new comp ?
Finally, is there any way to run 2 instances (this) on each core of an X2 ?
Hey Welcome to the team :toast:
No need to move your account to your new computer, just reinstall the software using the same name and team ID just like setting up another rig. If you have partially finished results, you can install the client on teh new machine and then copy over the files from the old box if you like.
As far as two instances go, you can run two command line instances I will look that up for you.
On behalf of Pythagoras our team leader and the rest of the team, welcome!
Finally joined up.... was meaning to do this for so long and now uglys sig got me. I've got a 3800+X2@2.6, but the prog is only using one core.... whats up with that? I realize there is probably a way to make it use both....
Hi One Hertz!!! Thanks for joining us man! Welcome, welcome!!
To run two versions, it's easier to run the console plain jane version. Just put a copy in separate directiories and make sure the CPUID is different for each copy.... cut and paste follows, I scored this information here
For you dual processor guys here's how to make F@H work with both procs:
F@H FAQ and console version FAQ wrote:
F@H Client Do's and Don'ts
The console is not an installer, but the actual Folding@Home client executable. In general, just download it, run it, and don't worry about it. However, if you like to be "hands on" with F@H, please keep in mind:
* Each different running copy of F@H has to have its own Machine ID number. If you download each copy of F@H from the web site and configure fresh, there will be no problems.
* Do not run multiple copies of FAH from the same directory
Console Client Configuration Options
-config
Allows users to change their configuration information. This includes user & team names (reflected in the stats), whether or not to ask before a network connection is made to fetch/send work, set up proxy servers, preferred work unit type (Folding/Genome), process priority, CPU usage requested (5-100%), whether or not to use assembly loops, whether or not to use deadline information, and Machine ID changes.
-service
Run in service mode (for programs such as firedaemon). This prevents the client from exiting when it detects the current user is logging out. If this option is used when the client is not run as a service then it will run normally, but will not shut down automatically if the user logs out, and a "Wait for program to close." dialog box will be displayed.
Meaning:
- You should install two instances of the F@H console version, in different directories;
- Then you run each one, at the command prompt, with the "-config" switch;
- A different machine ID must be set to each instance.
Alright dled the console version now have a normal version and a console version running with cpu usage being 100%, but still do not really feel any performance hit :woot: for dual core
I know the little program combines with the dual core is amazing, as soon as you start doing anything serious the application backs right off and lets the new app take the CPU cycles. With the two cores going you don't even feel it.
hmmm having a little problem....
The console version will sometimes stop folding while giving me the following message:
Size of work/wudata_06.xtc not what saved
Folding@Home Core Shutdown: FILE_IO_ERROR
Any ideas? :stick:
Also I have been folding for the past 30 hours and I didnt really get the team any points... Is there something wrong or the page just doesnt update very frequently?
If you go into the directory where it is installed there is a log, it will have more details.
Is your system overclocked? Ocing is great but it has to be perfectly stable for f@h to work. Can you describe your system set up for me? RAID, disk, mobo, CPU, RAM, current settings?
There are also some known issues running the console version together with the graphical version as well.
What's your user name on the team?
Hmm thats what it says in the log:
[11:06:19] Size of work/wudata_06.xtc not what saved.
[11:06:19]
[11:06:19] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FILE_IO_ERROR
[11:06:21] CoreStatus = 75 (117)
[11:06:21] Error opening or reading from a file.
[11:06:21] Deleting current work unit & continuing...
Ofcourse my system is overclocked
3800+ X2 @ 2.6ghz (260*10) and AFAIK it is 100% stable but I never did a dual prime for more then 30 min... also my "normal" FAh version never crapped out or anything. Mobo is neo2 plat, hard drive FAH is running on is a 74 gig raptor, ram is some crappy 1gig kingston until my vx comes back form rma (I know thats stable... ran 8 hour memtest)
Username on the team is the same as the forum one... One_Hertz
Seriosuly I havent been getitng any points for the last 2 days even though my fah is running 24 hours a day. :(
50 One_Hertz 236 3.
3 packets and low score means errors usually.
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/m...&teamnum=36362
Initially when I started F@H I just threw is on the puter I was benching, and of course it errored out all the time. That why I have so many work units downloaded for my actual score to be so low.
As a good general rule of thumb, if your x2 computer is Dual 32Meg Super prime stable, F@H will run without erroring out. It is an intensive math application. I have to think that you are getting some kind of HTT problems if you are getting disk errors though. Either that or you have plain old disk problems, you can run the manufacturers non destructuve drive test and see if that's the case.
Just so you know, the code is rock solid (as much as any code can be). I've never had a problem with it on a stable rig.
UnG
folding on my 2800+ barton.
once i get my :banana::banana::banana: sorted out, my opteron 1.4ghz and 1800+ palimino will be folding too.
Hey man, welcome to the fold!!! :toast: you've already turned in your first points....... poifect!
Thanks much for the efforts :)
I'm in guys. I got 3 machines going:
3700+ SD - Main Machine
2.0 Dothan - Thinkpad T42p
P4 3.2 Prescott - Work Computer
just got my 1800+ set up folding now. :)
Fargus... Thanks so much :) I hope to see you climbing the stats ladder for a long time to come, I'm going to post a note in here today about how I set up my rigs for highest scores, maybe that will help some people out config wiseQuote:

Hey Fthiotis !!! welcome to our team man, HUGE thanks and we're looking forward to that Northy in your specs crunching some big units :) If you need any help, post in a thread or PM any of the folders here. Out team captain is Pythagoras who is suffering a little with the flu ATM...
As an XS moderator, welcome to XS as well, hang out and enjoy the scenery and try not to break too much hardware.
Cheers
UnG
Very much Welcome Fthiotis!!!
Make sure you are folding QMD's on that thing, you get crazy points for it.
ok maybe im an oddball here but how much will playing everquest or hl2 or something along that line impact the performace of my fah client? i just finished my first one last night and i have been logge din to eq and running my craft macro the whole time. is this about the expected completion speed or should i log out to do some big crunchin instead of macroing as i sleep?
Well if the CPU is idle it will go faster, but I wouldn't change your life over it. Do what you need to do with your idle cycles. :)
well i have 2 of the machines at work running it 24hrs a day now so hopefully the numbers willb e climbing.
they arent too bad
p4 2.8 northwood 800
512mb of dell ass-brand ram
nothing too great but again its 2 boxes runnin it 24/7
Very good man ! You'll be surpsied by how steady the numbers climb
you get then setup with qmd's and you can put out about 1000 per day...
im using just one rig with qmd's and im +27 for the week
i have 4 non qmd rigs though...
just dled and started folding for u guys...
will get it to go on my linux box also...
Thank you very much, and welcome to the team :toast:
Regards
John.
Welcome to our eclectic folding group :)
thanks
i got my amd 64 3400+ and soon my thunderbird 1.3@1.5 w/ linux
and HOPEFULLY a x2 3800+ system, but only if i can sell my 3400+ :(
btw, what are QMDs? is there a guide somewhere about folding thos?
dont really have time to look...
QMD's will only work on intel rigs ATM.
Wow, just realized that u guys were almost in the top 200!. It has u there on 11/12. Anyone think you'll make it before 11/10?
Hard to say really, there are only a few of here, but we are working hard at it
Is there something special about 11/10?Quote:

WTG, you are racking them up, but you could set the advmethods and larg work units flags and score more :D
we've gotten alot more members in just the two weeks since i joined, might make it by 11/10...
im going home this weekend to set up 3 more computers with the client, 2 of which are going to be in QMD service, should give me almost 1,000 more points per day.
WTG Revv... come catch me :D I'll be adding a rig or two between now and Christmas. :)
No, I just think its fun to set goals. It looks like u guys are gonna make it though: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=36362Quote:

Im changeing teams and starting up my fram again.
I'm out for a week or two :( My 478 p4 mobo died when removing all the insulation from my phase unit.. got a p4p800se refurb coming. New system is in the works.. ocing now :D
What do you guys think.. worth keeping my old amd 1.4 tbird w/ 512mb ram folding?
yes it is. this machine runs a tred b @ 2030 with 512 ram and it does a 500 in a little less than a day, and thats being used all day for the wife.
Alright, I think I'm on the team. Moddolicous is the name. Only got an A-XP 2200 @ 2.1ghz right now. Just thought I would be appropriate for me to repay you guys for your hard work on D2OL. Who knows? Maybe I can bork some 13 1.3ghz celerons at my local YMCA if it doesnt use too much ram. It says only 15mb right now:eek: I'm used to seeing D2OL as a whole using ~60mb or more.
Aah... lots of fresh flesh here... welcome to all :p: :D
Hey Mod... Stanford WU servers won't give to your rig too large WU because they know how much ram you've got in it;) Or could easily reduce the amount what those servers see.
I've seen +100MB WUs sometimes. Maybe WUs can be a lot bigger, haven't seen yet:p: (but were those QMDs over 200MB? My memory isn't what it used to be... so like before New Years Eve Party:toast: )
Well, I'm #89 on the team right now, and now I got a WU that is 3750 steps. I'm at step 937, so it's going pretty fast.
What cpu and how much memory Modd?
Regards
John.
XP 2200 @ 2.1ghz with 512mb ram. BTW, when I add a rig, would it automatically go to my account?? I think F@H is a better candidate than rosetta on my family's PC as it has 630mb ram and rosetta uses too much.
I'll start folding with my dual core Opteron @ 2.84ghz soon :)
Just started folding, 36362 as team number.
660@ 4.25Ghz - it;s onl 24/7, hope it helps.
How can i get the stats in sig like most?
-Webzta
Welcome rick_fx and Webzta.Rick, for your dual opty you should install F@H twice. Same for you webzta if your cpu has ht.
Go her to find out how to get a sig: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/?nav=IMAGESQuote:

I'll switch my main box over when I get home, 5.6G 24/7. You guys need it more than [H].

Maybe I'll just run the one and turn off HT. I only have 512 ram on this system anyway.
Have you attached the flag -local to each instance of the client?
Regards
John.
Thats probably it. I'm gonna try to just run one with HT off for a little while to see what it puts up. It'll probaby get better numbers with just one.
Thanks
will be setting up a 1ghz athlon thunderbird w/512mb pc2700 to fold for XS in a few days. wow, im participating now in XS D2OL, Rosetta, and F@H. Hehe.
Nice to have you folding with us Nicks:DQuote:

I dont see dimes in there Nicks? It uses no cpu power. Welcome to the team.
just joined up. Figured I will let this X2 get some good use.
One core for folding, 2nd core for working :)
Hopefully in a few weeks I will set up a Pentium M celeron that I got sitting here (something to keep the electric bill down, while still offering decent performance).
Thx for joining the team, irev210. :toast:
Okay, I've joined up. Now how do I get one of those neato sigs? :D

Just registered on the team's stats page with my first finished WU! :)
I've set up 3x machines (a 2.6Ghz Opty144 w/ 1Gb; a P2 with 320Mb; and a Thunderbird 1Ghz w/ 256Mb; and part-time my P4 530 w/ 1Gb @ work). Will set up Dimes asap, and get myself one of those cool sigs...
Take it easy...Jim
Welcome jimwah :toast:
I see your name in the stats.
Welcome to the team:toast:

John.
Thanks guys, might be adding an old A64 3000/768Mb and a P4 650/1GB over the weekend, not until I've got some another surge-protector & kettle leads tho, I've run out of power sockets!
Welcome jimwah - we are please to meet you and have you on our team:D
Welcome to XtremeSystems
Hey guys. Didn't really know what this section was about until I clicked on it. Signed up as Nicksterr.
Will be running this app whenever I'm not playing games (Good portion of Mon-Fri)

Hi kLLa142, I had a P2 folding for a few days and it ran fine; but slowly. It will turn in work very slowly and will receive few points for its efforts, if I'm understanding the scoring system correctly. But, as they say, it all helps :)
Btw I noticed my P4 turned in a WU about 12hrs ago (client said it had sent it succesfully), but no sign of it @ stats page yet. Any else experience this recently? I'll try and force a resend later i think.
found it...
