9600XT Vmods

Hi.
I think my card has the same layout as bigz's card. I think I know how to increase gpu core voltage, but I must confess that all these things you were talking about have confused me.
I want to get better oc on GPU and memory. At the mo its 530/640. really bad, considering the fact that I've got 2,8ns samsung ram.
So what do I have to do?
What's this VDD,VDDQ,VDDR,VREF,VREG all about? I just don't understand the meaning of most of these. :confused: #
I think gpu mod is done on the rt9202 in the upper right corner of the backside.

But I think it only explains the vgpu mod and the vref mod (I don't know what this does) .
And I think these things like vddq and so on aren't explained there.
You were talking about these things in this thread,so I guess you know what they mean..

As far as I am aware, the RT9202 next to the APM7312 inbetween the memory chips is the VMem mod. That would have been the chip that I'd have modded before my card passed away to the voltage gods.

ISL6522B was the VREF voltage as far as I can remember... don't go above 1.45v on that, as you'll kill your card - default is 1.39v. I never got the chance to find any of the other mods because my card died before I got the chance. Also, I've got far too much on my plate at present; I've not 3DMarked for around 4 months now due to lack of time from spending most of my time reviewing graphics boards :)

so both Rt9202 are modded, with ipn 3 to ground on 10k resistor and pin 6 to the other leg. I'll try this out, as soon as I feel comfortable with soldering.
I wont try vref, as I don't know what it is ;). I'll post my results here, maybe I'll need some help, too.

vref helped me to gain a bit more on the core, around another 10MHz max with the same vGPU voltage.

my cooler works nice already load temps don't go above 45C at stock voltage.

my multimeter arrived finally.
I've used the same points, that you've used (in post number 10, you had 1,3core and 1,75 mem) and now I've got the explanation, why my card overclocks so bad..
1,27V core and 2,59V mem. very low values. me :stick: sapphire

I thought I had burned my card yesterday... so I soldered the vr´s an and the cabels to the readout points from the card.. I´m happy that it works now because a bios reset an all the other things didn´t work.. the screen remained black

all right.. I've done the vcore mod and it even works. with the pot at max, my vcore increased to 1.38V which lets me go to 580MHz clock. How high did you take your voltage for 24/7 use?
my Vref is at 1.28V which is very low.. maybe I should do something, too!?
vmem is 2.59V at the mo.
Well at first I'll do the mem mod tomorrow.
I've got a little problem, since I've done the mod, my memory wouldn't overclock at all. It starts artifacting at once even with core at stock speed. anyone else with such a problem?
I've done the mem mod and the mod to pin5,7 on the ISL chip.
What's the name of that mod? I thought it was vref and where you were measuring 1.38V on the picture (vmem where you got 2.75V) , but when I turn down the vr (to 5kOhm) nothing changes.The same is for the vmem mod I did to pin3,6 at the RT9202. How did it work out for you? esspecially to bigz who seems to have the same layout..

all right, I've found out, that Vmem is measured where you've got 2.87V..
but I still don't know what the mod on the ISL does.

I have also the same layout, the vmem mod worked.. but i have soldered it from the card.. sorry

flex, I've no clue for vgpu base don those pics.

both mods worked on my card... vgpu 1,3@1.4V and vmem @2.75V.. but the pc didn´t boot after a few days

Getting a 9600XT Extreme does 500/680 default searching the forums and cant find a clean cut guide on where to measure and the vmods for gpu and ram. Some please link me or repost the guide, all the picture links are dead.

hope this one helps. It's a sapphire 9600xt (mine). MOST 9600xt's should be a similar layout, and I've noticed that some brands use a different voltage regulator IC than others...but the mods are usually in the same place, you just need to verify which pins on your regulator IC so you don't smoke it.

I want to do the Vgpu mod again... So pin 3+6 on the RT9202 chip with a 10k VR, but i don´t remember the readoutoints....

i think its those 2 dots where the 10K VR is written. check with a multimeter.

NST6563 -> VDDQ???? is vddq ;)

vgpu done, I check the voltages later when the card is installed...

Hi guys, after doing the vgpu mod with a 10K pot, i managed to be the 1st r9600xt in the world for 3dmark05, for a few hours, till someone broke my record, 10 points higher :\

with the gpu 500@680 & mem 600@691 (no vdimm mod).

but i ran into a small problem, and i wanted to ask if anyone has that same problem too... when i raise the voltage over 1.40v, the gpu voltage falls down all the way back to 1.28v-1.29v... do you think its because of the 10k pot not working well or is it because of the card?

It may be falling back down due to overcurrent protection that's built into the card. I'm not sure how to get around that, but I'm sure someone on these boards does.

Nice overclock on that card though...congrats!

seems like my card has died today while i was at school... although it was only @ 1.4v and cooled with a vga silencer rev 3....

HGoly cow!another card bites the dust.How many of these mods have lasted.Im not gonna pay another $150 to break 50000 3dmark.Is anyone still using there card,whom broke 720 core 365 mem?

its seems like my card actually did not die because of the voltmod, it appears that a power 'jump' occured in my house (dunno exactly how to call it in english), that killed two lamps and my card :mad:

My Card runs @ 600 at the moment... But it has (also before the mod) a problem with OpenGL..

I'm still using my card at 650/373 (when gaming, otherwise it runs stock 500/325) with voltmods (1.42v core/2.98v mem). Have been using it that way since about a month after I got it...which was over a year ago.

3dmark isn't everything. People asked the questin of if it's ok to run them at those speeds for prolonged periods of time, we answered. Not quite sure what your fetish is with 3dmarks, but you don't have to be ignorant about it.

Besides, if you want benchmarks, go to the benchmarks forum :rolleyes: ...this is the Xtreme Graphx Vmods...Notice that last word there...Vmod...yeah...this thread and part of the forum has nothing to do with benchmarks therefore they're optional.

http://service.futuremark.com/servle...ojectsearch.as of today last day i show it .Its on first page.Reasoning behind showing this is its 1 of the best,and i beleive the card can overclock.Put ur marks up or s--up.I have voltmoded this card,but i dont think it can take as much as most can.I did the pencil mod,as i knew it was somehow voltmoded ,as i took the readings from it,with a multimeeter.WE all show our benchmarks here,but somehow i get jumped for a fair score?and questioning the validity of overvolting.Best numbers i have are from 3dmark03 when i was voltmoded.Works great but be careful.2 months and the artifacts will come for u.
