So, which board to get for Ryzen?

Biostar X370GT7 appears to be pretty solid. 3200 Samsung b die works with minimal effort. no way to raise cpu multi in bios so far though and custom p state is non-functional.

just FYI this is not the same board I mentioned previously. the gt7 seems ok at efficiency from what I can tell. zen on zen crime is about to get real starting with arson. going to see if I can get this board to light itself on fire.

downcore control is a little broken. 4 + 0 = corrupt bios after setting up memory and requires reflash to recover

As much as i think lights are dumb, i find this pretty cool, and as it appears to reduce 32m time, I'm keeping it.

fwiw I resolved the wifi problems with my X370 Taichi. All I had to do was disable the bluetooth elements and then enable WMM on my router. Speeds are now approaching those of my old PCIe 802.11ac NIC. Thanks goodness.

I also managed to hit 4.1 GHz though I did not test it much. Raising SoC voltage to 1.1v helped.

I would improve upon the 32m score if this board would cooperate and do the simple thing I'm telling it to do without vomiting all over itself.

so as discussed off thread, wont be able to catch that time due to current limitations of what is available to me atm.

last amount of efficiency that can be pulled from the bios. I need another revision with issues corrected. once fixed, things may get really interesting. no core affinity, no priority, no waza. pure board tweaks.

Going over 4.0 GHz is going to vary chip by chip. Mine is not very happy at 4.1, though I have completed some benchmarks at 4075 MHz. 4.1 GHz likes to make the machine lock up which in turn makes the UEFI forget that I have an m.2 device which is annoying seeing as how that's my boot drive.

I do not like having to reset all my UEFI settings by hand after every crash, nor do I like having to reset the UEFI to defaults to get my BPX back. Probably worst two things about the Taichi.

Could be worse. I spent a good portion of yesterday reflashing the bios as it would corrupt almost instantly with downcore control activated and doing anything with the memory

Yeah that's . . . bad. I still remember manually resetting BIOS settings on some of my old boards (think my nf-m2 nView didn't have profiles) so I'm sort of used to it. Reflashing the BIOS often would suck.

Beta UEFI 1.94a for the X370 Taichi now allows proper UEFI overclock AND features OC profiles. You can even save them to external storage. Very nice!

I might have to try some more bclk OC later. There were no additional memory ratios sadly . . . we might not see those until May.

moreover, is there a list of mainboard with refclock oc? don't wanna buy a board i'm gonna change soon after. at the moment i'm oriented on MSI x370 SLI plus...only cause of price, not interested in SLI config

try under AMD PBS PCI promontory gen 2 or gen 1. PCIE gen 1 or gen 2.

Hmm okay. I managed to get 113 MHz bclk for a bit, but it was unstable. Might have to manually switch to gen2.

Try with turbo disabled (Core Performance Boost).

1.9 beta is more stable for bclk. Not sure if your on it. 120 is preety easy gen 1. If you need bios settings lmk.

I was on 1.94a, now I'm on 2.0 but I can flash back (I guess) if I have to. HAven't had time to tweak anything recently though. 62 hours this week, 64 hours last week. All work and no play . . .

I can flash up no big deal. If you need help with settings just holler at me. I think i have the board figured out now for the most part.

Your advice on PCIe Gen1 seems to have done the trick. I was able to boot @ 113 MHz bclk and complete a linear read benchmark on my NVMe SSD in Aida64 without crashing. Later I got a page fault in Waterfox after booting DDR4-3600 18-18-18-42 so I upped vdimm to 1.42v, hopefully that will stabilize things.

Looks good so far though, I am not experiencing PCIe device performance degradation using Gen1 just yet.

edit: Running DDR4-3616 14-14-14-32. Sadly I can't get y-cruncher to even start, and Prime95 Blend dies instantly. Prime95 Small FFTs will run, as will just about everything else. Running 1.45v vdimm now.

edit edit: AVX was a red herring. It looks like the IMC was unstable @ 1.1v SoC voltage. Might need to raise it. The Powercolor R9 390 in this machine seems to dislike bclk OC of 118 MHz . . . lowering the GPU clock via BIOS hacking may alleviate the issue somewhat, or maybe not.

Yah basically it works out like this for me on a couple boards.

Vcore cpu obviously.

Soc fabric...not memory...its just because its linked....pushing high mem pushes fabric (nb) in cpu-z.

Vddr memory

Vtt memory

Vddp may offer some stability

Cpu pll may offer better bclk at the top end of scale (150+). Can try up or down.

For this board on 1.94a.

Load defaults, shut cpu features off c&q, cpb, c states, set desired bclk 120 and lower and pci settings gen 1 or 2 . Save reboot. Set cpu clock and volts...save reboot. Set xmp...lower the speed though..save reboot. Set desired memory speed. Save reboot. Set desired timings save reboot.

Cold start next day....everything just works...settings stick..

Shotgun approach the above all at once? F9 = fail....

Ryzen in general needs baby steps.

Yes I also posted my observations already and they match yours.
Vcore and Vdimm need no explanation.
Vsoc is only required for infinity fabric which is in sync with dram frequency, so when pushing memory high increase is needed, but not because of the IMC. 1.1 is fine for 3600 mem (1800 fabric).
Vddp stabilizes high memory clock. For 3600C12 I need 1.2V. In bios it says CPU I/O.
CPU 1.8 PLL I keep at 1.7V now, works better than stock for me. BUT there is a side effect on the latest beta CH6 bios. It drastically lowers temperature readings, I've seen as low as -15 on air cooling.

Settings stick fine on CH6 with 0082 beta bios, it just boots when I press the power button. Also I don't need to change PCI-E gen manually, auto works for me.
Loading the saved profile works fine, too. But if you're starting from scratch, chew* is completely right - make things one at a time and not everything at once.

I also tested same settings on chiller (around -10 lowest water temp with this chip) and 3600C12 still works, no coldbug on my chip at given settings.
Can't go much higher than 3740 memory clock though, regardless timings, temperature and voltages.

So far my max bclk appears to be around 115 using PCIe 16x/Promontory Gen1.

My current voltage settings are:

vcore 1.35v LLC Level 1 (using 3200 speed for 3680 MHz; not really pushing CPU speed right now)
SoC 1.2v LLC Level 3
vDIMM 1.45v VTT .730v
2.50_V PROM 2.700v
+1.8v voltage 1.700v (have also tried 2.000v with no better luck)
VDDP 1.2v
1.05V PROM_Voltage 1.100v

That boots and operates just fine with auto memory timings and "default" CPU speed (which is 3200 * bclk once you use bclk OC beyond a certain point; note that adjusting bclk automatically changes PCIe settings to Gen2 so you have to manually switch them back to Gen1 before reboot)

Anyway any higher bclk (tried 120, 125, 130) locks the system with an E5 boot code.

115 bclk DDR4-3200 setting (~DDR4-3680) will not post regardless of timings
113 bclk DDR3-3200 setting (DDR4-3616) will post with timings as low as 14-14-14-32 but it appears the data fabric is unstable. Relaxing memory timings does not improve the situation much, so the RAM seems to be capable of these speeds (it is binned for 3733 so it ought to). Increasing SoC voltage to 1.2v does not seem to have helped the situation much. I can get stuff like CinebenchR15 and Prime95 SmallFFTs to run, but Prime95 Blend and y-cruncher are still completely unstable, as is SuperPi. I can get y-cruncher single-threaded to run a little, but for the most part it just does not want to "go". I managed to complete 14% of the calculations before it bombed out in single-thread mode. Multithread just bombs out instantly.

The pci e was a non issue on asus i just ref clock and boot.

Even on 1002 or whatever previous public was all my saved profiles just booted. All were made preety much the same way...baby steps.

As i stands right now i would lean more towards ch6 for benching...the taichi would make a killer daily though.

As bios matures my opinion may change....but for now on current available agesa and hardware...those are my opinions.

Honestly have not really bothered with 3600 much...i know my pc 3200 sticks are weak so not much point.

I think for now I will set aside the bclk OC and wait for more UEFI updates, particularly in May when AMD may open up more memory ratios. I'm not 100% sure if it's my RAM or the infinity fabric that's causing me headaches, but it's clear that I can't push the sticks to their rated speed this way. Hitting DDR4-3200 via ratios is simple enough, so I'll stick to that for now.

The Taichi does seem to be a good board. One could certainly do a lot worse.

I think for daily 3600 is just pushing to hard. I saw instant issues over 3400.

I kinda like the dual rank at 3200 though with ref clock on the lower divider and 3d is working perfectly on fury x like this..

The only board i'm interested won't be available in my country any time soon, or so it seems :(

Tried searching a bit in "the country next door" and managed to find it but not @ a reasonable price: 355€ is WAY over the top. The board costs $200 in the states so i was expecting around 260€ or close to that (after taxes): 355€ is way WAY too much :(

Until i find it @ a more reasonable price, my AM4 upgrade is on the back burner :(

Any opinions on the Gigabyte Aorus GA-AX370 Gaming K5?

Looking to pair with a 1700 or 1700X and maybe OC to 3.8-4.0GHz that will run World Community Grid 24/7 at that OC. I also need 8 or 10 SATA connections to run 1xSSD, 5xHDD and 2xOptical drives. But price needs to be budget, in the mid $100 range.

So that looks like it's this board or the ASUS Prime X370-Pro. But the ASUS has a LAN that doesn't have Windows 7 drivers where the K5 does.

Any opinions on the Asrock AB350 Gaming K4? running it with a 1700 here (or will be soon...just got the board and CPU last week)

The X370 K4 isn't bad so far. Lots of options and good bios support. Even here, the VRM area gets hot though.
