PS:guy, dont tell about 5GHz AIO, its not possible. Or you can run i7-6900K or 6950X at 5 GHz stable?:)...Really not, massive cache, hyperthreading and too much cores are enemy of highest clocks (and the architecture of chip in any case).
Good write-up from Legit Reviews on available data on Ryzen and motherboards: Ryzen summary
Some call outs:
PCIe channel availability, seems we might be forced to choose between multi lane GPU or multi NMVe
DDR4, current chips are happiest at DDR4-2400 and hitting DDR4-3000 problematical
X370 will be priced equivalent to Intel Z270 platform as MB makers try and recoup R&D costs so looking at $200-$300 or ?190-?285
Personally I will be looking for 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots for GPU (running in x8,x8), 2 x M.2 (both PCIe X4) and 4 x SATA for storage with a U.2 connection as a bonus. 3 x Type A and 1 Type C for USB 3.1 and a further 8 made up of USB 3.0 / 2.0. Throw in an Intel 211 GbE, a good quality codec, stable and reliable VRM setup and I'll be happy out. Cherry on top would be a PS/2 port for my Steelseries 7G :)
Quite eager to know how they will scale with temperature, i can't wait. Finally, this could raise my interest in oc again...
So no interest is easy Kaby Lake OC's on air to 5 GHz?
AMd is gonna get killed in the community if they price these anywhere near Intel's equivalent mobos or cpus.
calling it now.
Surely not AMD's fault if mobo makers price an X370 board equivalent to a Z270 board with similar features? High-end Z270s are North of $300 I believe...
Interview with Hallock about Ryzen
http://www.redgamingtech.com/exclusi...obert-hallock/
To OC Kabylake, most of chips hit 4.9 GHz stable (around 50%) and many chips hit 5 GHz (around 30%). Of course full stable.
Hola my old friend FlanKer thank you for the information. I have too many questions to be answered before i buy Ryzen cpu for example: Do we have any true and real info on the single core ipc versus intel clock for clock ? Also any true and real info regarding what's the ceiling on DDR4 memory overclock ( absolute max stable ) on Ryzen cpu 8c16t and X370 boards ? Do we have a true and real release date of Ryzen cpu ? Do we have a true and real price and availability date ?
I am upgrading soon and i want a 8c16t cpu to be my next upgrade and Ryzen so far looks like it be my next upgrade , Ryzen by what we heard so far will be a good cpu but i still have more questions than answers , i guess as we get closer to launch date we will get more and more true , real and concrete info.
I hope it delivers since i really want to do a complete AMD built with Ryzen cpu + Vega gpu. Please keep posting more info guys , i like the way this is going

Welcome back Slappa :)
oooh where do i get a ryzen hat
My 2c. All based on educated guess since any good contacts i had are long gone.
Intel is counter releasing kaby lake x ( a sign that they are concerned and will not lose there crown )
Amd is not using marketing gimmicks.
( having worked with AMD this is a sign of a product that can and will sell itself....remember llano marketing? None. All focus was on BD liquid helium WR hype)
The lack of single threaded results is a double edged sword....could be they don't want to show there cards yet.
Could also be that they still trail behind in single threaded ipc. Im inclined to believe its the latter only because I know for a fact AMD can not resist poking big blue. As long as its not a landslide like in the past it would be acceptable to me.
If there is one thing i do know...it's exactly how AMDs marketing team works.
Those two key points can only lead to one conclusion.
Amd got there :banana::banana::banana: together finally.
I really hope Ryzen brings this community back to what it was from the XP/64+ all the way through Thuban. Once Bulldozer released it slowly started dying around here and the Phenom 2 era was some of the most fun I've ever had in an online community let alone an AMD one at that. Haven't posted in years but already seeing some very familiar faces in this thread!
I think, we will see something as Phenom II these days. One month +-
A $500 Phenom with limited overclocking past 4.1GHz... meh.
Some new info here about the chance of 8/16, 8/8, 4/8 skus.
yes Asus is making a CROSSHAIR VI Hero!!!!
http://imgur.com/gallery/qheFr
Is it true that AM4 socket holes are incompatible with previous AM2/AM3 mounts? I've only seen it mentioned once in an article.
Yes.
Heatsink manufacturers are handing out AM4 brackets, some of them for free ( Noctua is one of them if I'm not mistaken )
No bluetooth acessible software monitoring/overclocking (the answer to clunky and rather useless software/bloatware) and dip switches for pci E im not buying......
Lights and gimmicks can kiss my azz.
Wait. Who has bluetooth-accessible overclocking software?
Also if you do not like the Asus C6H design, there's always the AsRock x370 Taichi.
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/...psm8bqbzdq.png
I use this on my phone. Its got about the same features as rog connect....without any software installed just bluetooth drivers. Great when gaming and dont want junk running in background.
Asus used to or does for intel. I like this better than software.....losing it is a Downgrade....if i swap parts it is to upgrade only...i dont downgrade.
That Asus Hero AM4 board is all gimmicks my 2c. Give me a real board with real control.
If it looks good...bonus...but for me...function over form.
I don't like lights either, but the bt thing, I don't mind.
I never used it, nor the goofy front panel thing, expensive and a waste in my opinion, mine's still sitting in it's box.
Wish I could shut off all the darned lights on my mobo though, but then again my vga card has a ton of lights for it's pwm and one on the back of the gpu :\.
I've been thinking of setting up some arduino stuff for sensors, open src ones you know...
Since the boards we have essentially all have dmm measure points, and you could add temp sensors np too so...
That's the way I was thinking of going about this stuff in the future.
I also need a pwm fan controller too, arduino's can do 3 pwm signals each board, and each board only uses 0.25w.
There's also bt, wifi and cdma variants of arduino.
The old Crosshair IV Extreme features overclocking using bluetooth :)
It is definitely very nice except that it offers no security (anybody within range can connect to the bluetooth, the only option is to turn it off completely) and I cannot control the fan speeds using it.
If the ruumours prove to be true and the 8 core variant is a real 8 core smt disabled it should in theory have the highest ipc of the lineup. Based on inabilty to offer 6 core makes me think cluster based chip again...
I don't think it's inability to manufacture that is preventing a 6core sku at launch rather than pricing and potential income harming.
AFAIC they will release a 6C in the future.
Blue tooth must first be paired.....that can not be done without consent of pc....app must be on phone... Fwiw i dont forsee to many rc tweak it hackers lol...i cant even acess mine from upstairs...doubt anyone outside can even communicate.
It goes bluetooth on. Pair. Hit bt button again...this allows rc tweak it...it blocks all other bt functions. I couldn't even acess my own files paired in rc tweak it mode...
Good, then Asus must have fixed that security flaw on board you are using.
On my C4E I can connect my phone to it whenever the bluetooth is on, without taking any action on the PC, which of course is convenient, but not at all secure.
As for range, back when I lived at a student home I was able to pick up the bluetooth signal from my neighbours cellphone through the wall...now imagine if you are at a LAN party; somebody could fry your CPU by setting the voltage too high and you would have no idea who did it.
Yah the lan party deal could be a problem for sure. Lucky me @ 42 i dont get invited to to many lan parties anymore
Sux ive been gone awhile. Come back to find motherboards now look like they are assembled with all the parts required to make voltron...with laser beams.
hopefully we can achieve 5ghz 24/7 stable on the crosshair VI hero board with a 8c/16t ryzen cpu
Trix on my rig freaks screen out. I just flashed watercooled called it a day. Far cry from what i used to do but im grassroots overclocking and gaming now.
Thats just not realistic. I have a really good sandy which has proven to clock better than ivy on air/water. Its a 95 watt 4c/8thread chip. Unless i run single stage 5gig 24/7 is not realistic. Heat will always be enemy. Shut off ht then 5gig realistic....
8c/16thread is gonna be hot no matter what. Maybe an 8core...maybe...
Rumour has it.....so take it with a grain of salt......the original post has been deleted. That can be interpreted either way......
source Carbonite.co.za
I will "fix" one part of there comment. This is the current state of ES Cpu's.....hard to call a sample retail if its not at retailers....
http://media.redgamingtech.com/rgt-w...and-update.png
I did a little further digging myself but unfortunately and respectably I can not and will not comment.
This is 'old' post and was circulating forums at Reddit at the end of November or beginning of December before AMD's Horizon event.
Most recent leak I saw was from Ashes of Singularity benchmark using ZD36018AM88F4_40/36_Y 8c/16t Ryzen sample with 3.6GHz / 4.0GHz clock.
https://www.techpowerup.com/230336/a...sive-4k-scores
This is the same sample some people reported seeing at CES.
BTW nice to see you back chew* !
I usually don't post rumours.
I will say this however. There are usually 2 sides to every story. And from those stories usually the truth in those stories lies somewhere in the middle.
And yes im back but in my own capacity and my own choosing. Simply put "there are no strings on me".
That said im here for the community and to see what can and cannot be done.
Consensus is 8c/16 good chips 4.1GHz 24/7
Ill wait for retail and personal testing before I draw any conclusions.
Looks like 6c/12t Ryzen may be happening:
http://www.tweaktown.com/news/56124/...ghz/index.html
Again it's a leak/rumour but it looks plausible.
what will be the biggest surprise for Ryzen?
what will be the biggest disappointment?
1. Ipc
2. max clocks (overclocking and or extreme ocing)
My 2c compare it to a fury x.
BZ is saying 4.1 stable realworld ive heard whispers of similar from various sources. Canard pc claimed 5gig ln2....5 gig means 6 gig not hit...could mean 5.9 and lower...but its still low for ln2. That certainly coincides with less overclockabilty realworld.
Rumoured pricing suggests the ipc is very good.
For 90% of non ocing world the fury x is great...as will ryzen most likely be.
Some speculations about chips (Im not sure about credit of this info and website:down:)
http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-am4-pr...800x-flagship/
This is why i was inclined to believe lack of 6 core was in lineup...
Based on the way its displayed in pic it looks to me like a 6 core may take a performance hit. Just my opinion. Example depending on how they communicate say core 2/4 are bad. Albeit a microdistance there still could be latency compared to say core 0/6 being shut off.

IPC is indeed pretty good, a whole wonderful whoopass kind of leap for AMD.
LN2 clocks will make you cringe.
Hopefully the next revisions of Ryzen ( not retail batches, I mean a "tock", a re-spin ) will clock better.
Thats my line of thinking. Meanwhile i can do some homework to see what xxx speed is required for xxx benchmark :)
Thats pretty much what i expected after all this info , I hope F4 will clock to 4.2 on air and i will be happy.
However i dont expect a BIG change even after a new revision.Thats GF in recent years, i dont get why AMD sticks with them. They always underperform clockwise.
BUT a 4.2 zen with 8 cores for 300-400 (the cheapest 8c) and i will be happy.
And thats seems realistic (depends also at board ,-) )
Mr *Chew is today :party3::bday::party2: :)
Yah for my birthday i decided to break my perfectly working gaming pc...added a second aquacomputer block to my 2nd r290x....of course i knew the swiftech 3x120 would be overpowered....but its quiet now. A bit warm. Grabbed a monitor to. 1080p 1ms response 144hz displayport with amd free sync.
Tired of little kiddies owning me in first person shooters
I chose the AMD cards over AMD cpu during AMDs stumble. Seemed like the lesser of two evils.
Holy hell look what the cat drug in it has been a while since I have seen you on these pages chew happy birthday.
First thing to test. 4core 8 thread vs 8 core no threading.
I have a funny feeling it will be best to buy the top chip and tailor it to your needs for the best effeciency.
I believe for Phenoms II alias Ryzen era again.
https://www.techpowerup.com/230483/a...ted-for-europe
so, cheapest 8 core ~350$/350E , exactly as i was thinking it would be.
AMD does 4850 again. All looks well.
I felt genuinely excited as i saw this.Just like in the old days, decrypting the codes on the lid :)
Oh, and it means it has 3,6base and 4.0Ghz boost.Thats nice to see, that they got something more of them, 4.2 on air should be possible even if they are really bad clockers.
not 3.4 GHz?, rev F4??
3.4 GHz on photo, extended code is in CPUID string
Yes
New info:
R7 1700: 8 core 3.7 GHz boost, PIB (Wraith?) ~$320 USD, 65w TDP
R7 1700X: 8 core 3.8 GHz boost, w/o fan ~ $370-400 USD, 95w TDP
R7 1800X: 8 core 4.0 GHz boost, w/o fan ~ $480-500 USD, 95w TDP
amazing TDP of 65w if true!
leaks should start rolling in soon.
finally the wait will be soon over.
I thought the 8c/8t rumours were all dead? I guess we'll find out on the 28th!
Nothing realistic, hard to know from this benchmrk reality status.
I think for many who are on intels current platform AMD might have a tough sell. To the many out there still using sandy bridge ( you rarely see them for sale most likely due to still in use ) this gives them a choice. Either way an upgrade will require board, cpu, ddr4. If the performance is a significant leap over sandy for less than the cost of a comparable intel setup at close to intels current performance it could be enticing. I am one of those people and have been milking the platform for quite some time now. I saw no reason to upgrade for minimal realworld gains in gaming.
Sat here on SB too and I'm waiting for this one. Unless it's a complete failure I am definitely getting it.
I'm looking very closely as to in which areas Zen will come close or beat Haswell per core. If it's close enough then I'm early adopter as I do a lot of stuff on my PC which can use 8c+, but gaming is also important as it's my way of relaxing.
So far things are looking good to me and even though in games I probably will not see any difference, I'm willing to spend money on Ryzen to have some fun playing with new toy like in the old days.
One more important aspect to me is power consumption and that was the reason I never bought Bulldozer. With new AMD 8 cores it looks like it will have all the bells and whistles to save power when performance is not needed ;)
Personally, I run only AMD in my house. I have 6 systems running APU's, either laptop or PC, an FX 9370 ion Main Rig and Phenom 1090t in Home Server. My main Media Center is an AMD A10-9700e AM4 setup. Never have I had any issues with any of my systems nor gaming. I have 3 kids now and all of them game on PC. So, of course I will Have a Ryzen CPU in my main rig. Call me a fan boy, I don't care, lol. I cannot get onboard with Intel, period. Though I do like some of their NICs.
*Chew: But ou have AMD blood, so its time to upgrade :D
Realistic, I agree with you. In last few years were CPUs very solid, example clock to clock from 2012 to 2017 (but GTAV is improvement):

Ok, so ive found something interesting. There was a leak recently with a QS chip on passmark, it has been since removed.
So i looked through few possibilities with a cpu string on there and i hit a score submitted yesterday on a ES0 chip starting with a 1D
Its on motherboard made by mad with a name golemit, in passmark in manage baselines just search for 1D and it will give the score.
http://i67.tinypic.com/2u5xc8g.jpg
my Cpu runs at 4.2! NOT 3.3
While i may be AMD i had a choice bottleneck a good gpu with an AMD cpu or unbottleneck some mediocre AMD gpus with an intel cpu.
One must take into consideration always overclockability. Until recently intels chips did not clock as good on air/water on avg. Add in cost vs gains...an entire platform swap...not cost effective.
Grass roots overclockers were never the type to upgrade everytime something new came out. More so they would milk the crap out of legendary hardware while patiently awaiting something that would offer a rather large jump...rinse repeat. Examples. 1700tbred 9800 pro.etc etc.
When i left i did not quit....I quit being a tool...i just returned to my roots.
I swapped from my 9370@5 with a pair of 7950's to a 5820K@4.5 and the difference was night and day in quite a few games. I have honestly become frustrated with AMD chips as of late, had to swap my Athlon 5350's out in the HTPC's as they couldn't decode full 1080P@60FPS blu-ray rips with 7.1 surround. 6400T does it in the same power envelope without a single issue (obviously huge platform price increase).
I for one hope and pray some of these AMD chips are good, as I cannot handle another flop. The BD and PD chips offered a decent value when released, anything after haswell from intel walks all over them though. My current broadwell-e chip looks like its going to walk around with the 8 core ryzen pretty easily as well.
Wow, really? Maybe it's because I'm not a 4k gamer, but still, I'm sorry, I have a 9370 and a RX 480 8GB. I have no issues in any games and run the latest APUs in all my other PCs. A guy at work just built a PC using the 8370e and runs two RX 480's and runs 4k with Battle Front and BF4 no issues.
This is my latest APU and have no issues running as a media center PC, low power and great performance. I even game on it.
http://3800z24.info/APU/am4-1.jpg
http://3800z24.info/APU/am4-2.jpg
The gain from ipc, cpu power and speed in multi gpu setups is significant. Xfire and sli both use cpu alot more. I can not even count how many times ive seen posts of those claiming to have a unstable cpu oc after adding a second card ( clearly less stable than they had thought ). In benching myself i noticed it clearly. The cpu would either need be toned down a bit and or more voltage was required.
A 480 setup in 4k high res if 8 gig cards is what it is. Doesnt mean he is not losing something. If 4 gig cards im fairly certain my 290x's would trump it np.
Me personally im not a 4k guy. Im a fast response high fps high hz competitive gamer.
Anyway some may recall my 4way sli testing. Even back then when BD had a clear shear speed advantage in xtreme presets where i was able to lvl playing field vs intel cpu scores i was observing lower than expected game test scores which forced me to abort the endeavor. The higher i clocked the cards the more evident it became that it was being bottlenecked.
Anyway i showed what BD could do. Clock high. I never pushed it beyond that...how could i honestly reccomend someone with a thuban with higher ipc....downgrade.
Its a new era now. I look forward to ryzen :)
Chew, I see what your saying. My point is that I have no issues playing any game... any game on my setup. Yes, is the Intel faster, sure. But unless you are bench marking, why do you need to get 200 FPS? Even with Techreport.com and their measure of GPU frame time. If I can't see an issue, I don't need an Intel to save me. I have no lag, frame tearing, jitter, or what have you. Just smooth enjoyable game play. Sure, My system is a little power hungry, but the Intel fans back in the Prescott days stuck by there space heaters too. I use AMD. Just like I buy Chevy. (oops, just opened a can of worms there...) I remember when power consumption was not a worry... weird how now days it is a big deal. Plus, I enjoy overclocking AMD always have and it is unpredictable, a journey and a lot of fun. At the price point of AMD chips, I still do not see any reason to fully switch over. The APUs have been fantastic in the mobile area as well, if not more so. I sell tons of Elitebook systems from HP that are powered by previous and latest GEN APUs. Not one client has ever said, wow this thing is so slow and the battery sucks. I always here good things. Besides being an HP, there is something there.
Yah im guilty in power consumption area lol. 2 290x on water flashed 1060/1350 power color LCS bios. Im not to concerned about that tbh.
Its more in games where i crank eyecandy where i could show a rather big difference. RotTomb Raider just for an example.
Nobody who plays competively in fps uses eyecandy. In fps any edge is an edge. He who sees the other first providing equal skill wins.
AMD apu based chips i endorsed. If you remember i loved llano. The APUs did not meet my personal needs however.
I personally and morally however could not hype what i consider/ed my fellow amd bretheren into jumping on BD from what they currently had.
To put in car analogy. If you were a gm guy you avoided the 2.4 quad 4 engine like the plague and embraced the 3800 series v6. :D
Amen Chew, I remember the QUAD 4 though I did like the early 2.3 H.O. motors power. I never had to jmp from Phenom to FX due to the chips were free... so I guess hat helps only me. But still I like my FX chip and at 5GHX it renders and threads like a beast when I need it. ;)
Spotted 4 boards from MSI at one of my Venders
MSI - COMPONENTS MSI B350 AMD AM4 DDR4 ATX CFX 2PCIEX16 USB3.1 M.2 VGA DVI-D HDMI
MSI - COMPONENTS MSI B350 AMD AM4 DDR4 MATX PCIEX16X1 USB3.1 M.2 DVI-D VGA HDMI

MSI - COMPONENTS MSI X370 AMD AM4 DDR4 ATX SLI 2PCIEX16 2M.2 USB3.1GEN2 HDMI DVI-D
Im seeing a trend with 8+4 cpu power on top tier. Msi now to. Looks like a nice board.
1080P going from 80FPS to 144-165FPS is a big difference and visible on the correct monitor. I currently play at 4k which actually shows less of a difference than at lower resolution. I tried a 7860K to replace my 5350's prior to the 6400T, it sucked over 140w at the wall with just the APU, 2 sticks of DDR2400 and an SSD. It did do better in games than the 6400T, but it was not worth the 100w extra it pulled from the wall IMO, the box runs 24/7 and the extra heat it dumped was annoying when you live in houston where the weather can't seem to figure out cold.
I stuck by my 9370@5ghz for a long long time. Happened across cheap DDR4 and a free motherboard went X99 and hope AMD can equal that performance this go around. It is something completely different even if you personally cannot see it that doesn't mean it isn't there nor does it mean it is not something other people cannot see, nor need.
As for your APU in laptop luck, you are the only one I have ever claim happiness from those. Time and time again I get back those damn HP's that overheat and run slow as balls. Of all companies I could never recommend anyone buy an HP product with the higher wattage AMD chips in them. HP barely factors in enough cooling for operation under ideal circumstances, the second it grabs any dust and they are throttling. I cannot count the number of HP's I have tossed for board/CPUs that overheated and croaked.
My signature has been a Nehalem die shot since ca 2008... and today I finally found a good Zen die shot.
Feels good to be back on the AMD hype train!
5,2ghz+ ln2 :) hmm :o
Weird as we have had many folio units that only have Intel, come back with problems. I also cannot begin to count the number of dead Intel's in the past 3 years. We even have a Bulletin Board that we began sticking them on. We bean moving the AMD based systems and never, have had any of the 725, 745 nor 755 EliteBooks come back. They are not high power nor have we ever had one over heat. We move around 35 units a month in laptops alone. The 705 Mini, which I have all over my office even, have been great as well. We had 2 power supply issues units but that was all. In my 20 years in the business I have only seem 2 bad AMD chips and never have had one. Maybe I'm lucky and all our clients have been getting a special wave of systems. Just to be clear, We only have 3 of us at the company that even like AMD CPUs. The Mobile PUs have been fantastic in my opinion, and I will never believe that Popping an Intel in my gaming rig is going to make me see some new game experience.
I could show you difference on both sides of the fence. Course id have to borrow some of my old bd parts for the comparison from msimax. I plan on looking into some real world gaming tests 8 cluster am3+ vs sandy 4c/8t vs ryzen 4c/8t vs ryzen 8c. I wont have results ready by launch. Im doing this for fun and community...but i will start working on them this weekend. First i need to get an OS in on the ryzen rig.
Lots of stuff to look into. Oh and chip failure is why i dont use NV. Intel ive had no issues...only ever really used two in entire time ive used pcs though. Both were in the more resilient product lines so...eh perspective.
Ive beaten the living crud out of amd chips though...most failures were my own fault or a board that suicided and took prisoners.
In other news...toms hardware has confirmed the asus max 6 hero will be there flagship AMD board....
Key feature...lights. :shakes:
No formula....preety dissapointing imo..
Had a good laugh at this.

Well, at least 6900X you can hide in your pocket, not so sure Cyberpower Ryzen PC will be able to :D
I'm jumping from my i7 4790k to 1700X or 1800X and MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon if reviews find no problems with it (board that is). Due to my holiday schedule I will have 4 days to decide as I'm back 8th of March, which makes my order cut off date 6th of March.
I just hope there will be enough stock for me to buy it then.
Rumour has it the msi is under achieving in clock speeds by 200mhz. Im not sure as to the cause.
Voltron or Optimus Primes flight kit from revenge of the fallen...( aka asus ) reportedly clocks CPU the best.
