While testing for the countrycup we spent some time with CB as well. Just a couple of runs, didn't want to waste more LN2.
Anyway, the cpu and board combo is not very good (also with the wrong bios), but we did it for fun after the frustration with Aquamark.

Nice round score! This on its own is worth something :)
Since many years, Flunk0r is still unable to write my name correctly.
It's a total PITA and maybe the tenth time I tell you to spell my 6-digit name correctly.
The weird thing is that only the AMD fanboyz do this. Why ? I dunno ...
The EGO is strong in this thread !
Olivon, I highly doubt that FlanK3r is doing it on purpose, that you are able to deduce it is only 'AMD fanboyz' doing this says more about yourself than them.
IMHO I dont think somone spelling your name on a forum incorrectly (purposefully or not) is something to get agitated about, but thats just me
Anyhow, this is not the reason I wanted to post here !
A bit late to the party, so here is my 2nd results (first was run at my 24/7 settings and was 806 points, see sig for reference)
http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/259...coyyet546g.jpg
Next step up is 830 points but I think that is out of my reach.
Ambient temp is 19C
:-)
-- EDIT --
New result
:D
https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/12...88xysdyn6g.jpg
Had to drop the RAM to 1740mhz and NB/HT frequency to 2310mhz.
Will start increasing the NB/HT parameters first to see if I can go higher !
:)
NB speed makes a huge difference !!
:D :D
https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/1b...d589czch6g.jpg
Had to whack up the NB voltage to 1.2375 (from 1.1875)
Now to see what else I can tweak ......
:)
Small update, just pushed the CPU to 5300mhz
https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/c5...1ei3yg686g.jpg
My memory hits a wall at 2200mhz, once I figure out whats causing this should be able to pass 850 points.
CPU is right on the edge with my cooling and ambient temps !
Great results mongoled!!!
Thank you felix_w
:)
You have a great score yourself
:p:
Ive broke the 2200mhz ddr wall
:D

Now who is next in line on the league table
FlanK3r with 858 points, now really for sure that is a step tooooo far
Need more cold
:D
-- EDIT --
I try and try and try, cannot get just one run over 5300mhz to complete.
Voltage cannot help anymore, I need cooooooooldddddddddddd temps, but where are they
Cyprus is not a place I associate with cold, so to beat FlanK3r move up somewhere north :)
Great string of post mongoled, as it shows how little tweaks can make difference to your score!
Yes, u r right abt Cyprus not being associated with the cold, but it does occasionally get a bit chilly, last week we had 4C which is cold for the area I live.
Only in the mountains there are sub temps, but I am not close to the mountains, LOL.
Yup tweaking is fun!
Tomorrow I will try Barr3l Rid3r settings as he is pushing CPUNB + 2800mhz, if I can get my NB to that speed even at 5300mhz I think I have a chance of catching FlanK3r,heehheheeee

I re-tested the limits of my 9370 with the new CPU Block/Rad. Didn't even move up a spot from my old score, but I did gain 18 pts...
It's pretty hot here today and even with the AC on the temp in this room is 26c. Guess it's possible I could get to 5.2ghz on a cool night, but chip is really picky about high v's and cores start locking up @ anything over 1.576v. It still does pretty well as a daily driver and is stable @ 4.8 with much lower voltages. :)

Muito boa Gian. Depenando o bich?o.
Here's a run from "Quad Opty" - this is the quad Opteron home PC i'm working on (just got her going yesterday). She's currently running starting with 2 socket G34 AMD Opteron 6180SEs (24 K10.5 cores at stock 2.5GHz). As funds become available, i'll be adding another two 6180SEs to round her out.... and then see how far i can overclock them.

Have you measured idle/load consumption for this beast?
i think you are talking to me... yes, if i have all 24 cores going then generally speaking the kill-a-watt meter is telling me that i am pulling around 475 to 515 watts from the wall socket. Keep in mind that includes the LCD monitor as well (which is 15w?). This is with windows set to performance power mode. The SuperMicro case i am using is vintage 2008 i think, and so came with less efficient dual redundant 1000w power supplies (of which i am using only one)... i will be swapping it for a newer platinum rated 1400w PSU from the latest revision SC748 case. In addition to the efficiency gain. That *should* cut down on the noise as well because from what i understand the fans on the newer PSUs throttle based on temperature. Each CPU seems to take around 125w or so... so i'm going to guess brief spikes to 750w when i get all four CPUs in there and going full bore. i only got her going yesterday so i've got her dialed in for minimal power consumption yet... but currently in performance mode... around 230w to 260w just doing normal windows stuff (all CPU cores running at full 2.5 GHz under very little load). Hope that helps.
hi Felix, i haven't tuned it for saving power under idle yet, but when i get the final figures i'll try to send them your way. The above figures were also on safe settings with absolutely no memory tuning, etc... hope this helps :)
Looking forward to see your results, both performance & power-consumption, when you set-up your system with 4 cpus...
okay... initial results... monitor turned off... 173w on the Kill-a-watt sitting at the Windows desktop... in power saver mode.

My CPU is scaling better with room temps of 19-20. I can run cinebench @ 5350 mhz but the results aren't better than with 5300 ... Perhaps FSB @ 202 is the reason for lower score with higher frequency.
I'm gonna replace my good old alphacool NexXxoS X2 Plus HighFlow, been running for ages, bought in 2007. Was never cleaned... And I think it is not fitted for 8 cores CPU with large die surfaces. I'm thinking of buying the Koolance 380A which gets many good reviews. Than I should be able to bench @ 5.4 ghz
I finally have my 9370 back in the saddle. Ran again for an 897

For some reason I can't seem to get an image to D/L
Spent a little time tonight seeing what my 5 year old dual Opteron 8439SE rig would do...
http://hwbot.org/image/1263861.jpg
953cb @ 3.208 Ghz (229 MHz x 14x)
It actually seems stable up to around 3.262 (233 x 14x)... at stock core voltage... any higher and reboots start happening.
There is a sweet spot with the ref clock in the 220s where performance is maximized.
Just got my Koolance 380A waterblock. I'm disappointed. No decrease in temps. It even seems less stable than before :(.
I opened my old waterblock to clean it and took a picture of the laughable state it was in.

This is what you should expect after 7-8 years of usage :). Still, it was doing really well.
I feel like I have thrown 70 euros out of the window ... Should have invested in higher clocked DDR3.
i updated my quad opty project machine yesterday with 4 AMD 61xx "Extra Spicy" chips (unlocked multiplier/voltage) running at 2.1 GHz and ran an initial baseline. Thought i might share it here:

My other machine "Dual Opty" i have been running at 229 ref clock 3.2 GHz on the cores with zero problems (runs just like stock). The only problem i have run into has been when running Intel Burn Test (IBT). That thing puts such an incredible load on the processors that it overloads my 650w power supply and the system shuts off and reboots hahaha :)))))) It is hard for me to believe that is happening (because nothing else that i have ever run - Prime95, or anything else pushes this thing past 475w) but it is (i have seen 575w at 3.1GHz, so at 3.2GHz it pushes it past 600). i don't think i'll upgrade the PSU though just for that. Back in 2009 when this system was put together 650w was a lot... i guess it wasn't enough in 2014 :)))))
The quad opty runs extremely smooth with 4 processors though.
here are my final Quad Opty results for CB R15... 4 x 61xx "Magny Cours" running at 3.0 GHz.
to get to 3.0 GHz (from 2.1) and have it running stable required a voltage bump to 1.175v from 1.1v. Wattage draw for CB R15 was just over 900w during the runs.

NO fx-6300 tests
I can add one :), next week :)
@rvborgh
WoW! Nice score on that overclocked 48 core system!!
900W during load is about as much as my mining rig drawn when using 3xR9 290 in it :)
Fantastic to see scores like this as I'm sure in 4 years time some of us will have similar power in single chip desktop solution.
Dude... That score is Mind blowing!!!
If you don't mind give us some info on the gear used... I didn't realize there was a mobo that allowed OC'ing of Opty cores...
I moved the 8320E to the C5F, and things went pretty well. That being said, I'm gonna put the 8370E back in.
For a cheap chip, the 8320E is bad azz! But my 8370E still does better...
Here's the best I've gotten from the 8320E to the C5F:

Don't get me wrong! If your on a budget and looking for an upgrade to an 8350, the 8320E should get you some more Mhz.. :yepp:
Hi, i pretty much blame AMD for my project (in a round about way) :). Basically, when it came time to upgrade my PC... AMD had nothing really attractive available. The bulldozer based arch didn't seem efficient enough. i simply couldn't go Intel. My 2009 vintage dual Opteron 2212 rig from work was being retired. That machine with two dual core Opteron 2212s had a Cinebench R15 score of 174. Ended up doing some research and found that i could simply swap in two Opteron 8439SEs... got familiar with the Opterons and overclocked that machine to 3.2 where it is running completely stable at stock voltage and a CB R15 score of 953. It ended up being faster than the i7-4770 i replaced it with. i loved the 12 core K10 setup so much that it got me thinking about having more of them :D i had a crazy vision of a complete overkill K10 based system. The problem is that the quad Opteron motherboards are SWTX form factor... absolutely huge. Aside from that, i really wanted to stay with SuperMicro server grade stuff... but the SM 4U SWTX cases usually priced at around $900 just for the chassis. Thankfully i ran across an ebay sale where someone was selling a new SC748 chassis for a grand total of $87. i couldn't pass that up. Once i had the box, i now had to fill it :D Anyways, the bottom line is that its almost finished. The base of the system is pretty much all SuperMicro hardware. Motherboard is a Supermicro H8QGi-F. The CPUs are Opteron 61xx series "Extra Spicy's" with unlocked multiplier and unlocked voltage.
I cannot say it is for everyone... there really isn't any downside aside from weight (SM SC748 case is truly built like a tank - weighs almost 80 lbs - but is a thing of beauty), and power consumption (315w at idle with 4 CPUs at 32 GB of ram, around 230w with 2 CPUs and 16 GB of ram). All those cores just give the system a ton of torque if an app needs it. With the OC, individual cores also run at a high enough Ghz that its totally acceptable for apps that don't use too many threads. Basically its overkill... but that was the point :)
i wouldn't have gone down this road if it was not for the good folks over at hard forum (distributed computing folks). One of the guys (Tear) over there has back engineered the SuperMicro BIOS for the 4P boards enough to allow overclocking with stock Opterons.
Next up is another two Noctua coolers, and i'll probably try for 3.2 GHz... after that. For now though 3.0 GHz is completely stable... and i'm pretty satisfied. Its been a fun build :)
i hadn't captured a video of an R15 run... but did earlier this morning for this thread. This is for folks that have a fixation for watching boxes running in circles :)

Updated my R15 score.
Benched @ 5375 Mhz - Score 849

New Update
Was finally able to bench @ 5400 Mhz. Sadly, the score didn't change. 849. I must be bandwidth limited with my
ddr3 @ 1666 Mhz

849, not 649 ,-)...
I edited my last post, now it correct :)
I've never really used "PSCheck". So, I'm unfamiliar with it.
I still haven't taken the 8320E out of the C5F yet, so if you can point me in the right direction to the latest version I'll be glad to run CB15 with it open for you. ;) I'll admit I'm not a hard core OC'r, and normally I just use RCTweakit...
That being said, I was gonna try one last push with the 8320E before I switch the chips back out.
I'm an ambient (water) guy @ heart and usually look for stable clocks. :D
Got a link for the latest PSCheck?
DISCLAIMER: I feel like I got lucky with both of my 83XX-E series chips, so YMMV... ;)
That being said, I bought both of these retail so they're NOT cherry picked samples!
I did one last push with the 8320-E on CB15, and was really surprised at how well it did compared to my 9370 (only a few points lower than my best push 9370 score :yepp:).
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psce4b1bc3.png
The 8370E is still the better chip, and I'll be putting it back in shortly. I have to admit though, IMHO the "E" revision chips seem to be a really good choice even when compared to the pricier 9xxx series! :D
For anyone thinking about buying a new FX chip, don't overlook the 8320/8370E's...
8320E seems good for the price value :)
http://hwtips.tistory.com/m/post/242 download the two files - they are part of the same archive. 7-zip is your friend. Unpack and install via the setup.exe
Sorry man... I DL'd PSCheck and wasn't patient enough to figure it out. :(
One program worked fine, but the other gave me problems... I also got a little impatient with the 8320E and re-installed the 8370E.
Anyway, I knew the 8370E still had some room for a CB15 score, so I worked with it some more.
I'll try to take advantage of winter air now that it's getting colder... ;)
I'm getting really close to the edge on ambient water, but at least I broke 870!
