Indeed yes. It worked out of the box with fw 1.0 and an Areca-1880

Benches as you requested. Just keep in mind the array is in use, and filled ~60%. I was more instested in getting everything up running again than benching an empty array :)
The Array is divided into an OS drive and a Game drive. Hence the somewhat small drive size in AS SSD
I haven't fixed the C-state yet, so 4k will be abit slow on writes
Attachment 126299
It doesn't really matter if the drives are full or not, as long as you've got the 4G you need to run tests with larger testfiles.
Using a 1-4GB testfile, you are more or less testing the cache on the controller, C-states will still make a difference though.
Anyways, good to see that the drives are working with the Areca!
looking nice ..thanks for the post 128stripe?
Hey guys I have a 512 GB M3P and am getting significantly lower results than those shown before in this thread. Admittedly this is on the known poor Marvel 9128 controller but still its way below. Any suggestions on whats wrong? Is it just the controller? Ive updated drivers for the chipset/controller/etc and flashed the drive to 1.03 FW.
Using SATA II Chipset:

Using SATAIII Marvel:

Just a quick update with C-states disabled:

ximius its the same controller as the other M3P so it cant be to poor its the fastest SSD. SATAIII Marvel:is lower then Intel chipsets / C-states all play a part its kind of hard to tell w/o knowing your MB etc have you tried running crystaldisk mark , AS SSD what was the results?
1) The fastest results will be had with an INTEL SATA 6Gbps port. Not Marvell, not SATA 3Gbps. I listed this first because it is the biggest factor in your results.
2) As has been mentioned, you will often see higher benchmarks if you disable "C-states" (aka C1E) in your motherboard BIOS. You may also need to disable speedstep and set your OS to keep the CPU at 100% (minimum). After you do that, run CPU-Z to check if core0 of your CPU is running at full speed, or if it is throttled (you want full speed).
3) If you cannot get your CPU running at full speed in (2), then try running a CPU intensive program on at least one thread of your CPU. I have had good luck running wPrime on 1 thread of my i7-3770K that I have been testing. No matter what I did in the BIOS (turned off C1E, speedstep, etc.), the CPU was still throttling while running SSD benchmarks. But running wPrime on 1 thread kept the CPU going full speed, and it helped my 4K QD1 benchmarks significantly (the 4K high QD benchmarks seem to unthrottle the CPU by themselves, so it did not make much difference there).
It is the onboard controller that limits the result, your results are as expected.
I've got a few MB's with that controller and I disabled it and connected the drives to the Intel 3Gb/s controller.
Not much to do about it except for getting a 3rd party controller or upgrading to a new chipset with a proper onboard 6Gb/s SATA controller. (i.e. Sandy Bridge(-E) , Ivy Bridge, AMD SB850-950)
One thing to note, is that the 512GB M3P is actually specified LOWER than the 128GB and 256GB variants..

Unfortunately, the 128GB M3P was on sale today, couldn't resist.

I'm so close to going with an M4. Prices are sooo good, but the syntheitc loving whore in me loves this drive. Decisions . . .
It was MPXs 10th anniversary. (it's too late though, valid from 12:00-16:00 CET+1)
200,- NOK off per drive. (from 1549 NOK -> 1349 NOK)
About $235, not sure how that compares.
The M3P 128GB is about $210 here. I paid $220 for mine, and I would have gladly paid another $15 for it. That drive is something else.
I need to go to SSD rehab.
Another drive which is not so fast, but the same price here -- the Intel 510 120GB. TBH, I can make an argument for getting either. But the M3P 128GB is faaaassssttt.
LOL if you get a Plextor Pro ..everything else is ..boring
In front of me: Areca 1880ix 4GB + 4x plextor M3p 128gb :)
I hoping for better result than 4x vertex 4.. It was epic fail with Areca :yepp:
@Nizzen
Mine were shipped this morning, scheduled for delivery on Monday.
Are you having any luck?

Attachment 126616
I think it has to have the 1.03FW on it to SE and not be the system drive (obviously). I have two M3Ps, and the drive I booted from was using 1.03 and the secondary is 1.00, so I think that's the issue. It says "external drive only" but they can't possibly mean that literally.
Attribute B1 in the screenshot above is host writes -- I did some testing, and it works like Intel's host writes (32MiB increments). Except the Plextor uses 64MiB increments. So multiply B1 decimal by 64 and then divide by 1024 to get host writes in GiB.
Awesome!
Sounds good look like Plextors got it together.
Looks like there is an unofficial (and destructive) f/w available that enables you to switch from the M3 > M3P and back to again to M3. (Run a SE after updating the f/w to make sure the FTL table is cleared)

Nice find now Ill wait for someone to try it out
Heres a bench I ran with 4x Raid 0 128GB M3's (not M3P) on an Areca 1882i - will test 2x R0 on an LSI 9260 later today (going into my private PC). 4K is looking good :)
Attachment 127396Attachment 127397
Edit: FW was 1.01 latest is 1.05 so results may have improved already :)
jcool : You are testing the controllers cache with ASSSD. Therefore high 4k results.
Try Anvil tool, and use 12GB testfile :)
That may very well be, but the controller has gone into a customer setup, so can't change that now. Here's my own setup, 2x 128GB Plextor M3 R0 on Intel RS2BL040 (LSI 9260), 128k stripe, no FP, no read ahead, disk cache enabled.
In the end I decided to go with WT rather than WB, for some reason 4k performance was better which is what I am looking for in an OS drive.

(Left side is WB, right is WT - winsat was with WB I think, responsiveness rating improved with WT as well)
Plextor released new M5S which uses Micron's NANDs unlike M3 and M3 Pro uses Toshiba's Toggle Nands.. Controller is same Marvell 88SS9174

http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/n...11_539321.html
Hmmm. Interesting...
they are probably going for cheaper.. and relying on one manufacture may hurt anytime..
i would like to see another MXS with samsung toggles lol..
That is interesting. My guess is that they are trying to further distinguish the S from the P models. The M3S and M3P are nearly identical from a hardware standpoint (mainly FW differences). But with the M5S using IMFT flash, I am guessing there will soon be an M5P that will use toggle flash, and hopefully with Marvell's new 9187 controller.
Simple review of M5S came out from EXPreview.
http://www.expreview.com/20051-all.html
Not bad, just look at less.
In the performance is not a problem as the next generation of M3.
I personally preferred is that equipped with a Micron's NAND, I like it.
Thanks for review, according to this post NANDs are rated 3000 P/E..
That review seems a bit off to me. Most of the benchmarks were nearly identical to the Crucial m4. If that is a real M5S that they tested, and real benchmark results, then it seems Plextor has made an odd choice. It is almost an exact clone of an m4, even to using the Marvell 9174 controller instead of the 9187 that I have been waiting for Plextor to use.
Plextor will have a pro version of the M5 and I would imagine it will have the toggle NAND and the Marvell 9187

and SNIA testing of M3 Pro:
http://www.plextor-digital.com/image...tingreport.jpg
Did you notice the M5S only has a 3-year warranty? It seems like Plextor is pulling out all the stops to make the M5S a bargain-basement SSD. Shorter warranty, IMFT flash, older Marvell controller. All I can say is that the price better be very low, like $100 for 128GB and $200 for 256GB, or it will not be worth buying.
I hope Plextor releases an M5P that has 5-year warranty, toggle flash, and the new Marvell controller.
BTW, thanks for posting the SNIA testing on the M3P. It is good to see that Plextor does SNIA testing on their SSDs. Here's the link to Plextor's site with the SNIA page:
http://www.plextor-digital.com/index...a-testing.html
I think more expensive than Crucial M4, but I like M5S 256GB :)
http://www.goplextor.com/tw/index.php/m5s
M5S - 128GB - NT$4,590 (121 euro no tax) (153.66 $ no tax)
M5S - 256GB - NT$8,590 (226 euro no tax) (287.57 $ no tax)
I can easily buy Plextor M2P or M3 at those prices.
And Samsung 830 256GB is very cheap these days in Europe (around 200 euro vat included, some Amazon's promotions @ 170-180 euro)
These are test beds, 20 hours @60C

That's too much. The M5S is almost identical to the Crucial m4, but the m4 is selling for much less.
256GB model has more faster than the announcement spec ;)
also but presence of M3 is greater still now, especially at a price.

Q. In the future, possibility to use a controller other than Marvell? Like "S".
Addy. S? It's SandForce? To answer. Absolutely not.
It have just pulled out the performance of the Marvell is PLDS only.
There is no need to use SandForce.
Q. Don't using "M4" are aware of the Crucial?
Addy. It's do not care less. Our products is more better, there is confidence.
Simple, Number4 is a bad omen in Taiwan and Japan.
Q. M3 and M3P has 5-years warranty, 10-years of use there are no problems?
Addy. Don't know, I'll have been testing a development team.
Q. Recent price drop or not it worry?
Addy. Welcome if it reduces the difference between the HDD. Increase SSD User.
Whitch don't have the original controller or technology and that are dropout.
Thanks for the news.. It uses 32nm Toshiba nands according to news.. would be interesting to see endurance testings against M3P :) (i hope Christopher is hearing this :p)

Limited edition of ninja I heard a rumor and only 100 units for Japan.
Hi all,
Question for Plextor M3 Pro Owners.
Did your drive come in a sealed anti-static baggie or was it not sealed but held with a piece of scotch tape?
I am trying to see if the one I bought (256GB) is brand new or was potentially a return.
Please let me know.
Thanks.
The Ninjas are going to be very difficult to get outside of Japan but I'm working on it. The M5S drives (128GB and 256GB) are already on the way.
M5P yet? But NINJA has comin' on 14th July!

Yeah, I want a Ninja. Badly.
the Ninja and M5 are both slower then the M3 Pros but yet cost a little more
Yes, it seems they are only faster on mostly useless benchmarks like 4K QD64, and then only by a little. I'd rather have an M3 or M3P than an M5S or Ninja.
It seems to me that Plextor wanted to create a bargain-basement SSD to compete with the the Crucial m4 and Samsung 830, and that is what they did with the M5S. They switched to cheaper flash (IMFT instead of Toshiba toggle flash), kept the older Marvell controller, eliminated the mounting bracket (and the transfer software?), and reduced the warranty. The only way the M5S will be worthwhile is if the street price comes out to be about the same as the Crucial m4. We will have to wait a few months to see where the street price of the M5S settles.
Did anyone notice that the M3 has a 5 year warranty and the M5 has a 3 year warranty? Oh, the irony! :shakes:
I'm just hoping that Plextor is working on an "M5P" or something that has the new Marvell controller, toggle flash, and a 5 year warranty. That would make sense, because Plextor has taken some criticism in the past that the M3 and the M3P are not differentiated hardware-wise.
A little birdie whispered in my ear the other day something about a P but I don't recall what it was exactly:) *cough* August *cough*
M5P but no comments about the controller.
