He'd sell you your own underwear while you're waring it. :ROTF:
Don't be surprised if, during this week, you get a phone call coming from my house, and it won't be me on the phone. :ROTF:
You better go hiding in your basement and camp there for the next coming months. :D
Well hell why not?
I'd always learned that in sales the key was "Find a market and fill it"
That darling of a beautiful lady thats your wife?Quote:

Nah, she's a sweetheart and would never be upset with me..:sofa:
I wonder what you'd like to fill in some underwear, besides the "thing" that's hidden behind it. :ROTF:
Better hang a warning sign in front of it saying "ONLY OPEN IN CASE OF REAL EMERGENCY"
You'd be surprised.
She sometimes even surprises me after 22 years.:D
Sorry Dave. You were extremely convincing but I did not buy it. I am setting up a new rig and guess what... it is an 1366 socket Rampage III board with an 980X. I think this has to do with psychology. Once you have touched 6th level in the direction of the crunchers Nirvana, it is very difficult to go down two levels.
Is that how you think of yourself now? .......Prime rib!! :sofa:
Hey Dave, sounds like SB is doing you well. Ready to part with those Hexes yet?
Yessss. More cores, more cores, more cores.......:up::up:
P.S. Two single socket Hex units (based on OCed 980Xs ) are more performant than one SR2 unit. I compared that in detail with Dave some time ago (see Dave's thread on SR2 rig) and there is no discussion about it. Dave loves dualies, I am more pragmatic, and only absolute performance counts.
Crunch Crunch Crunch....that is all Crunch for a Cure
SRHunt3r does average 15,200 with an SR-2 rig and thats not to shabby :) if a dualie does avg less then it's not going to be by very much. I wont pay the dual QPI Xeon "tax" for a dedicated cruncher myself.
Crunch Crunch Crunch? That's my line :D
Well you know what they say about taxes :D
(well apart from the life's certainties bit, anyway)
New Hampshire is really a wonderfull place to live.
Yes, it is rural so not as many state services as places like Massachusetts.
You pay for what YOU use is the thinking.
A wonderfull place to retire to if you have a decent retirement fund.
Excellent fishing, skiing, lots of sights to see and nature trails, etc.
Police attitude is one of friendship for the most part not confrontational like one sees in other parts of the USA.
Also only 1.3 million people here.
Not crowded at all.
Largest city is Manchester with a pop of 125,000
Where I live there are app 9,000 and house lots are a MINIMUM of 1acre,
We have two acres here that backs up to town conservation land.
Then the animals..
I've had Moose,Deer,Great Blue Herons,Red Fox,etc in the yard..
Imagine standing at the fence feeding a 7ft 700lb Moose a head of romaine lettuce..I have..:D
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe New Hampshire does impose a tax on restaurant meals, hotel rooms and electricity. You might want to check your utility bill to see if a tax was added. I also believe there's a tax on gas, cigarettes and booze. Oregon has no statewide sales tax. But I think local governments can impose a tax if they so choose.
California has the highest sales tax in the country - over 8%. But part of that is to compensate for lower property taxes resulting from Prop. 13, the Jarvis/Gann initiative.
florida has no income tax :)
or snow :(
No income tax here in Washington either, but the sales tax in Seattle is 9.9% Not sure how much of that is from the state, but the each city and county have a different rate. Property taxes are high also, I pay just under $6000 a year for a $450,000 house. What are the property taxes like in California Sierra?
Kinda derailing this thread, but isn't that nornmal in this section. :D
I think I pay around $4,500 a year in property taxes. They would be twice as high, were it not for Prop. 13 which says the tax can not exceed 1% of the cash value of your property.
Most states impose a tax on cigarettes. If there's a state tobacco stamp on a pack of smokes, it usually means the state imposed a tax.
Cigarette tax is pretty high here. A pack is over $5 and I'm sure that at least half of that is tax. I'm not a smoker, so it doesn't affect me, but at 5 bucks a pack I think I'd try and quit.
Gas tax also is high, I think it might be the highest in the nation. I know gas here is always way above the nation average. Right now it's about $3.30 a gallon.
Plus, just like California, and pretty much everywhere, there is a huge budget crisis and they want to raise taxes to fix it.
In short, no way to escape in a form or another Taxes. This means yes that no way to escape Death too.:D
This may not be an exactly accurate but it will give you an idea...
Income tax 22% up to around 60K then 40%
Insurance 10% <this pays hospital and unemployment type stuff
Purchase tax 20% <mostly everything qualifies
Then there is property tax ...a 3 bed house can exceed $6K depending where you live and here the plot sizes are measured in feet mostly
AND more important perhaps, I pay in ££'s what you pay in $$ for hardware as a rule.... Fuel = $9.39 a gall ...cigarettes = $9.50
So....Want to live over here???
Taxes is just one of the big problems. Low wages, lack of jobs is causing allot of state and federal tax revenue to fall short. Now Minnesota house and senate want to get rid of unions by putting this up for a public vote so these wages can be reduced. I've only been on 2 Union jobs since retiring from the military. They have a purpose but not totally fond of how the politics work. And our joke of our newly elected governor, Dayton, can't do a thing about it. Our taxes, along with electricity and other services will be going up to pay for our 6 billion dollar deficit. Funny how their wages go up but ours decline. Our country is in a sad state of affairs. Hate to see what it will be like in 10 years from now. There is more than death and taxes we can't avoid.
Tempting....
9.75% sales tax in LA county... and, as for the property tax, 1% is still a lot of money when you consider the insane property values in CA. In Saratoga (where I lived before moving out to Palmdale), the median sale price for homes is still hovering around $1.2M (which means you'd be out $12k/year in property taxes). So, yeah, higher statewide property values kinda make up for the lower rate, if you ask me...
$3.39/gallon here for regular... from this map, it looks like Utah is the place to go if you want cheap gas. ;)
Ehhh.... I think I'd have to respectfully pass on that one.Quote:

Wanna swap?
Petrol is £1.30 a litre, which is approx £6 a gallon, $9.50 a gallon in US currency.
£6 ($9.50) is also the cost of 20 cigarettes over here.
VAT went up to 20% the start of January as well.
The grass is never greener on the other side, only a different shade of green my friend ;)

after all these years, I still love your avatar. :yepp:
NH taxes:
Personal property tax on home and car.
Varies by town.
Here in Litchfieldis app $4800.00 on a $320K home
On a car maybe $200 first year on a $27K car, then down to $125 year 2 and $75 year 3.
Yes, taxes on cigarettes, carton is app $55.00
Also a meals tax..6% I think, maybe 8..
BUT no state income tax.
Make $50G's here vs Massachusetts and you stick an extra $2975.00 in your pocket..
Mass also has a 5% state sales tax that we don't.
You can't really compare US and Denmark. Most things in Denmark are "free"(paid by taxes). We don't have the problem with illegals, but sure do with the free loaders. There are good and bad sides with both models. I don't like the scenario, where people without insurance gets more than bankrupt, if they get sick, or injured, and has to get treatment on a hospital. On the other side, I don't like paying for lazy people, "who can't find work". In Denmark we do pay those people.
53% income tax, gas approx $2,20, cigarette's almost $15 a pack, sales tax 25%
Health care=free, 6 weeks paid vacation, 12 months paid maternity leave
Country? Norway of course, almost the most expensive country to live in inn the world.:yepp:
in germany:
sales tax 19%, 7%on books, food
income tax up to 45%
dont know about other taxes
but fuel is about 1.4euro per liter,
I grew up in Silicon Valley (San Jose/Santa Clara area). A couple of my cousins live in Saratoga. They're not filthy rich. But they work for Hewlett Packard and can easily afford to pay the taxes.
Property taxes are based on the assessed value of your home and land. That value is usually just an educated guess by the city or county. Your home is oftemtimes worth more than the assessed value.
California counties get around Prop. 13 by imposing a special tax known as Mello-Roos which is used to pay for a variety of things including road improvements and schools.
Back on topic, I got my 1155 system up and running over the weekend. ASUS has a cool UEFI that replaces the old BIOS. There's a video on YouTube showing how the ASUS UEFI works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vBN-cBPs98
All you have to do is dial in the multiplier you want, and the board will automatically adjust the voltages for maximum stability. Or course, you can do everything manually. But I've gotten lazy.:D
So, s b, What does your SB do on asus auto oc?? .....Best I saw yet is 4.841
I think i'm just gonna go move into a cabin in the middle of nowhere..
If you watch the YouTube video in the link above, the ASUS tech got a 2600K up to 5GHz by just using the auto-tune feature while in the operating system. The app will automatically raise the clock speed 100MHz at a time and also perform a stability test at each speed. You can see that in the video too.
I have my chip running at 4.6Hz. I stopped there because the board adjusted the voltage to 1.33v which is far as I want to go for crunching. I'm pretty sure it will do 5GHz with no problem. But the voltage and temp would be too high for 24/7 usage.
The ASUS EFI BIOS is pretty cool. You can change the boot order by just dragging an icon. The BIOS has an EZ Mode, as well as an Advanced Mode with all the settings you're accustomed to seeing. The EFI also allows you to either make all overclocking adjustments in the BIOS or in the operating system. It takes some getting used to. But I've impressed with how well everything works.
Update on what my SB 2600K is doing at stock everything:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3222/80965478.jpg
I switch the projects around sometimes to see what it does on for each.
That is around 2k more than my i7-860 does @ 3.5GHz. I thought it would be more. But I need 170 watt for that.
That's all well and good but did it sound like T-Pain?
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1110/tpainp.jpg
sorry bad joke
I know. :yepp: My other chip is worse. It takes 1.320 for 4.5. I'm just envious of all these huge numbers with with relatively low volts I'm seeing. I keep hoping I'll find a setting that allows me to go further without tons of v-core.
Is there anything to the 1.35 limit that seems to have become gospel for the long life of these chips? Heard any stories of these chips or other 32nm chips dying? I went conservative with my 980x, 1.320 4.15Ghz just because I don't want to replace it. (4.2 required 1.39) With one of these, if 1.4 would yield 4.8, a 10 month life might be acceptable. New chips with more cores should be out by then.
Ruh Roh! WCG severs are down as is the website. :(
When the first 32nm chips came out people were treating them like the 45's and we had lots of dead chips on the forum.
The issue was high vcore(1.4+ ) added in with high VTT( 1.4+ )
I remember Cyberdruid lost a $500 chip that way.
Over time we've found that 1.35vcore with 1.325VTT was safe for long term 100% load and in some cases actually lowering the VTT will improve the overclock.
I'm using 1.325vcore with all others default but with "PLL override" enabled for a solid 4634MHz.
I need to overclock it...but thank you!
Thanks for the quick explanation MM. Coming from you I believe it. :yepp: Wasn't sure about a random OC thread from the U.K. I read.
Retro, what project are you running? Those are great numbers for stock!!!
Here is the first week of mine running a steady diet of HCC. It's bee running @4.5Ghz except the first 3 days where it wasn't even 24/7. The 18th is 1/2 day. Hopefully it will be a 40K+ day today. :) Maybe it's finally hitting it's stride.

920 @ 4.35ghz on HCMD
I don't have the means to pull power data, sorry. Yes, Win7 64-bit
I was running HFCC [just dbl checked]. I'll get a custom cooler soon so that I can over clock, but honestly, its running just fine. I'm not a pie hunter [yet!]. I'd have to double my output in order to get there.
Is yours a 2600k as well? Nice work on putting up some nice numbers for a single socket system!
Yep! Both mine are 2600Ks. Different mobos. I just switched to HFCC to see if that improves things. :) They are both doing as much or more than my 920 and 950. Just not a jumping up and down 10K better. :( Considering the clocks, I'm scratching my head.
Maybe Intel is gonna release a patch next week that will really open these up. Watch its only using 10% of the actual power
That would be awesome though!
You all will excuse me if I'm a bit slow BUT I'm thinking that if Aerou's 2600 NON K will pull 35,000PPD ( and it will) and do that at under 100w draw and comparing that to the 41,500PPD I'm seeing at 4634MHz with 212w draw then maybe the smart thing isn't to overclock these things but to run them at stock..
I know, sounds sacreligeous but look at the elec use vs output.
35,000PPD using 100w
41,500PPD using 212w
Now I need to do some testing and see what I draw at defaults.
See MM!! You don't always have to overclock everything! :sofa:
It's certainly far more efficient at stock. Heck, raising the Vcore from stock is always hurting your power-bill hard, no matter what CPU. Keep in mind that I have it setup close to optimal - integrated GPU, efficient PSU, well cooled and efficient circuitry on the motherboard. No addon card. I might save like 2-3W using an SSD perhaps, but the OCZ Throttles I have been using no longer store data well :( Also, I could lower the stock Vcore by some nudges, but now, I want a decent PPD statistics data before I go into tweaking. Might save up to 5W. Short story though - I am hooked on Sandy Bridge. You can't imagine me dreaming of a sub 100W quad, then being worried it might not make it, when you told me your kill-a-watt was showing Vac instead of W, but here I am looking at a silent and fairly cool cruncher with the muscle for more than 30K PPD and that under 100 VA.
On the other hand, I don't see that machine getting 35K PPD, at least not on Linux. But I won't ever switch to Windows for that. Besides, Linux gets more work done, and that's what matters.
I don't think 35K is possible at stock speed. 30K-32K is more likely. Still very good for stock voltage though.
Mine at stock is averaging 33,676... But it also runs 2 GPUGrid WUs at a time, so Idk if MM is really that far off with his 35k.
(Don't worry, only at stock till I can get a new HS or backplate - stock one sucks)
Average over how many days? You really need to run the chip for a week or two before you get a realistic average.
Mine has steadily declined on the production since install...
edit:
Image from my 2600K's Task Manager:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8947/captureiz.jpg
Normal or should I reload the OS to see if I get better results?
There are a lot of variables to daily point production, especially if you are running projects with a quorum system. Right now, I have a lot of Sandy Bridge work units waiting to be validated.
Generally you will get a good daily point total on the first day or two, then the point total drops off a little, then picks up again.
It seems just 3.4:
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/9453/capturexdq.jpg
Turbo boost mode on the 2600K would be 3.8GHz.
I went into the BIOS and changed the Intel Turbo Boost mode from Auto to Enabled. It looks like it shares the boost mode across all the cores. It had %'s next to each core. Hence why I'm almost hitting 3.5GHz...I guess.
I was going to disable the CPU thermal monitor as it said it would reduce core clock ratio and voltage. But I changed my mind. Seemed too risky. So-Cal has been seeing some hot days this January.
edit: We should start a thread called something like: "The Official Sandy Monitoring Thread" and sticky it! That way we can all come in and post some results and compare. MM must be still testing power consumption...
Only did the last 3 days, but I took the points produced divided by the minutes of run time x60 minutes to get hours x 24 hours to get days x 8 threads to get that number so I don't think that should matter... I'll report more numbers back in a few days, then OC it a bit this weekend.
Any idea of OC on stock HS?
If you want the best efficiency , find the highest overclock with stock voltage.
Good idea. I nominate Movieman to be in charge of that thread.:sofa:
30,000+ points at stock voltage is still very good. I don't mind running overclocked at 200W because that's still a lot better than any of my other crunchers. Plus those 5-6K extra daily points add up over time.
Well all I can say is that I am getting hosed in the quorums!:yepp:
Holy S guys!!! I know the servers were down for 2-3 hours yesterday but it shouldn't have skewed results this much.

Is there a tool that accurately reports the vcore? CPU-Z says one thing, hardware monitor another and the Turbo V tool from Asus another. Thanks
If CPUZ is accurate I'm currently at 4.533 Ghz @ 1.288 vcore pulling 188 watts. The temps show a 10c spread. 51c-61c. Hoping the temps come closer together after burn in. Should be interesting to see the PPD in a week or so.
