Is it just me or that card looks a bit longer than what we have seen so far?
GTX490? o.O

Don't think so, none of their previous non GF100 gpu's had L2 cache, and they support CUDA as well. OpenCL doesn't require L2 either. I don't see the need for a mainstream GPU to have L2...
Nice point, guess we have to ask him what was on his mind.

Maybe I missed the results, but has any review been done for the 1GB 460? Its the only one that could be interesting. If NV has got it right this time with the 1GB 460 they should have a 5830 killer and a card that gives a 5850 a run for its money. If that does happen, expect ATI to counter with price drops and/or a (GASP!) HD5835.
interesting, all 1GB cards on newegg are OCed above the 675 (unless i missed something)
Hmmm. Why aren't there any reviews from major sites?
I'm actually considering getting a 1GB 460, oddly enough. :P
so according to those benchmarks the 768mb gtx460 in SLI is around the performance of a gtx480. then dual uncut gf104 in "gtx490" would be . . . very fast
also, you can bet the gtx460 has been designed specifically to not put the gf100 chips totally out of business. apples to apples the gf100 cards will still be faster. that said maybe you only need something as fast as an overclocked gtx460...

impressive factory OC :D
Heck yeah, bring down the prices AMD :).
I think these 800+ clocks will force AMD to bring its prices back down now.
WTB a good review vs. other overlclocked cards.
Power consumption should be interesting, I jumped on a cheap 5770 Hawk due to low idle power and low consumption overall but I'd love CUDA for my HTPC if it can provide similar low power :)
Same, wondering the difference in performance between these two setups @ 2560x1600 (with a little AA, 2x-4x maybe):
GTX 470 SLI OC @ 750mhz core/3600mhz memory, 1280mb (320-bit)
vs.
GTX 460 SLI OC @ 940mhz core/4300mhz memory 1024mb (256-bit)
These things are really inexpensive compared to a 470 (you can get an 800mhz stock 460 for 240 on the egg right now, vs. the best price of around 300 after bing cashback on the 470, more like 330 normally), and I'm wondering if the core speed is going to make them insane. I have a second 470 coming in to go SLI with on Monday, but I'm wondering if I should just refuse delivery, buy 2x 1GB 460's and go to town, sell my first 470, and enjoy extra cash + maybe same performance?
two of these should smoke a GTX480 :)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261076
No, I have been running a single 470 since launch... almost went SLI then but didn't. I have a second 470 due in on monday finally though :p:, partially spurred by considering going 5760x1200 with a 24"x3 surround setup, and partially due to wanting more power ;). Might refuse delivery, however, and try 460 1GB SLI.

This one is not only have 1GB ram 256-bit bus, but it is also factory overclocked and it is only slightly more expensive than 768MB 192-bit version
I haven't heard a word about HDMI audio passthough.
I don't think it is going to happen personally, they haven't come up with the name nAudioX to make it their sole proprietorship yet . If it detects a non-nvidia sound card it will disable the sound drivers.
I havent read the whole thread but if it can do about 900mhz with a voltage boost im not very impressed...
My Gtx 465 can do 875mhz on the gpu with a slight voltage increase and over that the stock cooler cant really handla the heat output...
Lets see on monday:)

GTX460/1024MB @900MHZ GPU @4452mhz Ram
Nice ! That's between HD 5850 and HD 5870 but the score is with PhysX activated.
Seems the 1 Gb version will be on par with GTX 465, except it will have much better thermals and will need less power :)
Ok so we have the GF100 and GF104. Next up to bat are the GF106 and GF108.
Since from what i have seen the gtx 460 and 465 would overclock somewhat the same and the gtx 460 has less cuda cores. So why would the 460 be more effective clock per clock than the 465?
If we are talking stock gtx 460 against stock gtx 465. Yeah then they are probably going neck to neck.
I got 800 core / 1600 shaders and 3500 memory on a 465 with ~ 75 full load (weather is over 30 C here!) so would like to see how the 460 performs clock to clock. Doesn't anyone compare architecture efficiency anymore or just it out of the box and call it a day? The 460 looks really good and if the prices can be under 199, then 2 or 3 in sli would be a killer combo. But I did get the 465 for only 210 so might need to pickup a 2nd one before it all goes away. :D
The 460 has 56 TMUs, the 465 has 44.
And the stock 460 has more shader power than the stock 465.
336*1350 vs. 352*1215
In fact, the 1GB 460 should be faster across the board compared to the 465. It has more shader power, more memory bandwidth, more TMUs, and the same number of ROPs.
The 768mb version should trade blows. It has lower memory bandwidth, but more TMUs and more shader power.
nvidia is killing the GTX480, you can get two GTX460s (factory OCed to 800/1000mhz) 1Gb in SLI for the same $$$

So, get one, overclock it and you'll get overall better performance than a stock HD5850/GTX470.
Sounds 8800GT to me :p:
Newegg shows a few GTX 460 1GB. Cheapest is $220 w/ $8 shipping. SOLD! :D
hmmm the 1gb version seems to be smashing everything... I'd like to see it compare with a 480.. Dont think it would be that far off..

Are you guys really trying to compare a GTX460 Overclocked to a stock HD5850?
If we are going to use overclock cards lets overclock both please.
Here is my take so far on GTX460:
GTX460, Great bang for the buck, impressive performance, SLI looks like another bang for the buck with GTX460.
Things yet to be answered:
OC GTX460 vs OC ATI HD5850?
Does it passthrough HDMI audio(DTS-HD, etc)?
ATI have an answer or price drops?
HD5830 EOL?
The 460 1gb is looking pretty damn appealing, good price, good power consumption, good temps, good OC potential, good performance, good price!!
It's certainly looking to have all the characteristics that made the 8800gt a great product.
Well done nvidia
Not now, Msi Cyclone seems to suport control of GPU voltage, other's don't.
GTX 460 1gb oc, is in most of situation better than 5850 stock :clap:Quote:

5850 price will drop to !
your knee jerk reaction is understandable. but I'm not comparing absolute performance like you imagined. the efficiency comparison is valid and pressing. everyone hates gf100 because it is inefficient. 5850/5870 are pretty awesomely efficient. and if these benchmarks are true, gf104 completely reverses that, becoming the new efficiency leader.
combined with the smaller chip and board size (which directly equates to lower cost), this means people will love it for all the reasons they hate gf100...

wow
this is a very fair assessment of the 5-10 month delay by legionhardware:
Quote:
Whichever way you slice it, the GeForce GTX 460 768MB was overall faster than the Radeon HD 5830 by a small margin in the dozen games that we tested with. Then when we measured the power consumption of each graphics card the GeForce GTX 460 again came out on top, using slightly less power. Furthermore the reference cooler also appears to do a much better job, as the GeForce GTX 460 was found to be 18 degrees cooler than the Radeon HD 5830 when under load.
The GeForce GTX 460 768MB is clearly the better choice of the two graphics cards in our opinion. However having said that the Radeon HD 5830 is almost 5 months old now, making the GeForce GTX 460 a considerably newer product. Furthermore the Radeon HD 5000 series has been available for almost 10 months now, which hardly makes the technology cutting edge anymore.
Something else to consider is that at $220 US the GeForce GTX 460 1GB graphics card will be 27% cheaper than the [$300] Radeon HD 5850, despite being just 7% slower on average. On average the GeForce GTX 460 1GB was 17% slower than the GeForce GTX 470, which is a fairly decent margin. However at $220 US the GeForce GTX 460 is 31% cheaper.
Overall, by redesigning the GeForce GTX 460 to remove the unnecessary bits, making it a more compact and efficient GPU, it appears that Nvidia has created the perfect mid-range graphic cards. We genuinely like the GeForce GTX 460 in either its 768MB or 1GB flavors, and prefer it to the ATI competition.
I sense a price drop from ATI's side along with an upgrade for myself depending on which way the pricing swings. The consumer always wins when competition works =)
Did you see that 2 x Geforce GTX 460 768MB SLI beats Geforce GTX 480 and is cheaper too: 3DMark, FC2, HAWX, RE5, DIRT 2, AvP, Unigine Heaven 2.1, Just Cause 2, STALKER: CoP.
Also, both Geforce GTX 460 OC-ed at 860 / 2300 beats the HD 5850 easily: Just Cause 2, AvP
Good job NVIDIA, now we're waiting for "Gemini" :D
Well, you can't really buy an HD 5850 for 200 bucks now, can you? So it makes sense.
OCed GTX 460 is close to an HD 5870, so depending how lucky you are, they can be on par even with OC.
Dolby True HD and DTS-HD is supported.
They better.
It wasn't that good to begin with, so who cares?
on the Inpia review, how is a 800Mhz 5830 consuming 60W less than a stock 5850 with both under full load:

''We've seen the GTX 460 lock horns with the 5850, and while the 5850 is undoubtedly the faster gaming card the $300 price point no longer makes as much sense as it once did with a $230 1GB GTX 460 below it. AMD either needs a 5840, or a price drop on the 5850 to bring its price more in line with its performance.
At the end of the day NVIDIA has created a very powerful card for a market that has been overlooked for most of this year, and right now they're setup to benefit from it. The GTX 460 is well priced, well performing, and cool running - 3 qualities we haven't been able to attribute all at once to an NVIDIA card in quite some time. With launches and pricing like the GTX 460, the competitive landscape that we enjoyed through 2008 and 2009 is finally taking shape once more, and we couldn't be happier.''

Also a scaling test with GTX 460 OC on 10 different procesors you can find here ;)
BTW, HD 5830 has a bigger TDP than HD 5850 :)
I really want to like this card, but just don't see any significant improvement to upgrade from a 200 series just yet, however I'm curious if it will stream True-HD audio over the HDMI 1.4 port.

91% of HD5970 performance for 64% of the price

^best reply ever.. :yepp:
One pair of stock-overclocked 810mhz core/4000mhz 256-bit memory 1GB GTX 460 cards coming in for $450 shipped after Bing CashBack :D for an SLI setup. One heck of a sweet deal!
Where is the price like that. Thats an abnormally low cost for a 5970 and an abnormally high cost for a gtx 460.

Here a 1gb gtx cost 180 or 360 pounds for two vs 520 pounds for a 5970.
With only a ten percent performance delta, it doesn't justify anything greater than 100 pounds in price difference.
On Gainward GTX 460 1GB GLH( 800/1600/4000) it's posible to adjust GPU voltage, and most probably on Palit GTX 460 PLATINIUM(same clocks, same PCB, a little different cage cooler) because Gainward is a subvendor of Palit.
But all GTX 460 with ON NCP 5388 can adjust voltge with MSI Afterburner1.61 normaly.
Gigabyte 460OC 1gb can to.

after checking out those screenshots wouldnt it be better to just go with 1x 5870, basically almost same price as 2x 460s, yet the 5870 gives better results and leaves more room incase you ever wanna add another card for crossfire..!?
Palit GeForce GTX 460 1GB Sonic Platinum
