sometimes I hate it to be hw-addicted...this card reminds me of good old x800 gto(2) times somehow so I just picked up a Gainward 465 GTX and will give it a try...maybe it can outperform my 285 GTX in folding after beeing flashed...gonna test it soon :D thanks for all the infos so far, really got me curious :hehe:
what brands do we know so far can do this?
I'm also finding many of the PNY models have the full 10 RAM chips, this has been confirmed at OCN.
one thing I am thinking about:
- the first sample cards could use full 470 bios so TUs and ROPs did also increase
- the shot I saw from unlocked ASUS card here shows 32 ROPs only higher shaders...so it would be interesting what can acutally be unlocked - shaders only? TUs somehow? ROPs somehow?
Can't wait to get mine, I forecast it'll be death within the first 3 hours of testing bios versions :p: But I have enough cards to reflash ;)
Got Point of View GeForce GTX 465 today with 10 memory ics.. will try to upgrade to GTX 470 soon.
Seems to me like some AiBs don't have enough 465s so are rebadging 470s?
got my card today but I would like to test software unlock first - anybody has 465 GTX asus bios for me? (not the GPUz bin...)

Meeeeh power consumption is sick - 215W idle, 417W nature 03  I don't think I'll use it allday...but the cooler from gainward is ok, nothing to call truely silent but even overclocked it is not the loud hair dryer I expected - better than my 285 GTX I would say under load. But 400W+ while folding is a nogo :(
Clockwise it's ok NEEED MORE SHADERS!!!

got a pny 465 with ten memory chips today from fry's. plan on flashing to 470.
edit: i picked up a pny from fry's in Arlington tx, pulled off the heat sink to find ten samsung chips, and then flashed it to find it wasn't stable in 3dmark. i increased the fan speed to 75 percent to get some shading artifacts, increased core voltage .05 to find it sable at stock speeds.
anyone got a link to nbitor 5.7, i would like to increase the voltage in bios. never know if some day it will not boot at stock voltage.
my memory speed went from 802 MHz to 837 MHz.
Ok, so I just went to Microcenter (Dallas) here locally. I picked up two PNY GTX465's and got them to match the Tiger Direct/Compusa deal, basically making them $246.88 before tax. Got them back to work and popped them apart, sure enough they have 10 chips and the GF100-275-A3 GPU, so it looks like I just got two GTX470's for $493 before tax, not bad. I will be flashing them tonight and seeing what they will do. Not sure what they will clock too, but they should be decent.
I found I didn't need more core voltage, I just had to clock the memory back to ~807 MHz.
I suspect memory voltage is set in hardware, anyone?
Im not risking any more cards, out of 5 cards i tested none were unlocked.. I wouldnt try this as i think Nvidia have caught on..
just recall my winfast gtx465 does have 10chips. will try out and update ya guys
anyone know why the difference in memory speed between the two boards???
different ram chips?
very little information there. what brands, did any have 10 mem chips, did you flash or use asus util, did they run and where not stable, did you brick them all????
perhaps your doing something wrong:shrug:
the 470 bios does OC the ram compared to 465 bios, backing off memory was enough to make my card stable. I've even OC'd the GPU.
I wouldn't say your right, nor would everyone else who has been successful.
I still have one with unlocked cores in a working computer. :D
MSI GTX 465 Twin Frozr II Golden Edition limited edition cards ALL have 10 RAM chips, and on top of that they have a wicked all copper cooler.
I flashed my GTX 465 Black Screen
Just an FYI to everyone here, the only ones that it works with are the point of view cards (dont know which model). And ONLY the black PCB version of the PNY cards. The newer blue PCB version will not work
Try shopping at your local best buy for the old PNY version. Bestbuy doesnt sell very many, so they very likely have the old black pcb.
They will also do a price match to fry's price.
Hello!
Any news for PNY blue-PCB GTX465 owners? :)
where can one find the msi twin frozer gtx 470 bios to flash their 465, mine came in mail today
Got my MSI GE and unlocked it today. Now to start testing the clocks.
I got the MSI GTX465 GE today too and used this guide and their BIOS to successfully unlock it to a GTX 470:
http://en.expreview.com/2010/07/11/g...65/7865.html/5
The only thing extra was I erased the EEPROM first using this command:
nvflash --eraseeeprom
The flash tools and BIOS are on page 6 of the above guide.
This thread is also a good resource for the GTX465 GE:
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/7899...ii-golden.html
I want to hear how these unlocks are going, how are the results?
HERE is a full answer to your question!!!
Hi people
Am just here to let you know. DO NOT LISTEN to the ass hole "you only get what you pay for" "Big companies don't make mistakes like that" nay sayers. Telling you GTX 465 to GTX 470 is:
A: just review or early production models
B: its impossible
C: that its seriously risky
After some research, was just about to buy a GTX 460, then remembered the GTX 465 unlocking rumours i had heard.
Did some more research and ended up buying a Point of View GTX 465 for £15 more than a GTX 460 1gb.
Followed a guide carefully and now have a fully unlocked GTX 470 fully featured with the 448 TMUs, 320bit bus, and 1.2Gb Ram ( though the extra .2 ram may be disabled still need to test that )
Basically you get a reference GTX 470 with performance, power draw, and heat profiles exactly like a stock GTX 470.
I bought my card on 4th Sept 2010 in the UK from a large online retailer, it wasn't cherry picked or specially selected, so i find it entirely likely that PoVs will all be the same for some time at least. Since there has been plenty of time for Nvidia to do something about their unofficial upgrade program.
CPU-Z PoV GTX 465 after unlock ( sorry i forgot to take screen shot prior to flashing it )
If anyone doubts my honesty i will post pics of the PoVs packaging, and the card itself, even the receipt
to show this is for real.
I have stress tested it with endless cycles of 3Dmark vantage and it is rock solid stable ( probably get :banana::banana::banana:y and start overclocking it soon )
After flashing my 3DMark vantage score went up something like 4,000 points.
Heres the urls of the 2 sites i have found most helpful in achieving this.
http://en.expreview.com/2010/07/11/g...html#more-7865
http://translate.google.com/translat...70&sl=ro&tl=en
The two guides cover all the basic procedures in great detail in, the 1st guide will help you identify a card thats fully unlockable.
and details on the Asus TMU only unlock, the 2nd guide seems to give the best methodology for the actual flashing. Both have packs with all the files needed to do the job.
The most important 2 issues are:-
A: Getting the right card to unlock ( i chose the PoV as so far no one has reported a failed unlock or a card without 10 ram chips)
Point of view GTX 465 ( so far seems like they all unlock )
MSI GTX 465 Twin Frozr Golden Edition ( so seems far like they all unlock )
PNY GTX 465 ( so far seems like they all unlock some need slight voltage raise to keep stable, rumours of new stock being 8 ram chip versions )
All these cards have 10 Ram chips, rather than 8 that most versions of the GTX 465 have, and GF100-275-A3 GPUs, thats what makes them reliable unlockers.
No one has yet successfully unlocked an 8 chip 465, it would seem prudent to assume full unlocking on these models is impossible, thus stupid to try.
B: Recovery strategy for if the flash does wrong
Once again pretty simple, and mostly common sense
if your card is unstable or functions poorly then just re-flash back to your old backup bios.
Ok so what do i do if after flashing i have no display??
WTF do i do about flashing back if i can't see :banana::banana::banana:??
YOU ARE STUPID IF YOU DO NOT backup your GTX 465 bios right at the start prior to doing anything else.
CHANGE YOUR MOBO BOOT PRIORITY TO YOUR CHOSEN FLASHING MEDIA, FLOPPY OR USB.
DO NOT CHANGE IT BACK UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED ALL STEPS.
Simple:-
1st on your nvflash floppy or bootable USB stick
go and make a backup of your current 465.rom
Nvflash -b xxx.rom
(xxx being the name you choose )
go back into windows, and setup a couple
of .bat files (.txt files with the extension changed to .bat
PLEASE NOTE
the terminally timid, AOL users, just migrated ex-Mac users, and mammals with brain stems weighing less than 5grams, may need to change explorer display settings in order to see file extensions, as M$ by default like to conceal all the functions of the OS you just bought)
one called something like
rflash.bat
with commands
nvflash -4 -5 -6 XXX.rom -A -y
(where xxx is the name of the backup rom you previously made)
a second called something like
clean.bat
with the commands nvflash --eraseeeprom -y
If you brick your card and get no display, boot from your flash media
wait few mins to make sure its completed its boot.
then carefully type
rflash.bat
and press enter, do nothing for 5-10 mins then reboot.
in most cases your card will now boot with the old bios.
If you still have no dispaly, reboot with your flash media
then carefully type
clean.bat
and press enter, do nothing for 5-10 mins
( the clean.bat command nvflash --eraseeeprom -y will completely erase the eeprom which is the usual culprit when you can't re-flash)
DO NOT REBOOT UNTIL YOU COMPLETE NEXT STEP
then carefully type
rflash.bat
and press enter, do nothing for 5-10 mins then reboot.
in most cases your card will now boot with the old bios.
The truth is if you make the correct choice of 465 card in the 1st place your unlikely to need these steps, but they are a very important insurance protocol.
Don't forget to download MSIs Afterburn GTX control tool, best app for fan speed settings and overclocking GTXs, turn that fan onto 100%
permanently. On 100% fan my 465=470 only hits about 65degrees at full load.

Hope this helps some people

I ran the Asus utility and it show that I can unlock the shader blocks. So I got greedy and tried a full 470 unlock my Colourful 465 GTX. The pictures shows it did fully unlock.
But testing with OCCT proves there is no free lunch. One of the shader clusters is not working properly, artifacts and crashes out within the 1st minute, hence it was cut down to a 465.
OCCT did verify the 1.2 GB of video ram is good via memory test. I wonder can a modified bios allow all of the ram and keep the working shader blocks? Would be good for high texture usage. Will try the Asus utility again to see if I can recoup some of the shaders.
I can confirmed that an eVGA GTX465 (not the SC version) can be unlocked to GTX470
before
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/9015/gtx465.jpg
after first 470 Bios flash, notice an GTX470 with only 1GB Ram lol
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3...ckedgtx465.jpg
after using the nvflash -9 command and second Bios flash, now all 1280MB ram and 320 bit bandwidth running solid :)

Excelent news, congrats for your unlocking !
Does anybody know something about Gigabyte GTX465 unlocking? Is it possible?
Not sure. Dragonhunter unlocked an EVGA GTX 465. According to what I have been reading, over the web the EVGA GTX 465 only has 8 memory chips. So to me it looks like it would be possible with other cards that have 8 memory chips
The Gigabyte 465's might unlock if you can confirm there are the 10 ram chips on the back but the pcb is blue (not that it matters). So far, all the potentially unlockable 465s had black pcb and 10 ram chips.
I managed to unlock my pnygtx465
Nope, mine is a 10 chips card and black PCB. Notice 1280MB ram in GPUz. I was surprised myself cause what I read were like you.
I posted to let you guys know that eVGA is unlockable, not sure what the % though.
Here's my 24/7 O/C using Accelero Xtreme, I can go up to 1600 shaders using 1.087V stable
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/254/14882277.jpg
Just want to tell you that GB model can not be unlocked. I've got artifacts when I flashed it with unlocked 465 bios. Over 1.087v I' getting strange results. Strange means that they are lower then the results at the same clocks but different voltages (1.1v+). And hell yeah.. the fan can not be controlled on it. It's stuck at 100% but still quiet (comparing to other cards at 100%).
would i be able to unlock the EVGA SC edition?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130557
was going to buy this but want to make sure before buying
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...s%20Family&sw=
sweet i found one on evga.com. i would rather get it on newegg but whatever. using it for a build for a friend. was going to get him a 460GTX but wanted to get him the 336 core version and thought, hell just add the 30 bucks to just get the 465 and flash it !!!! can you post the part number? is it 01G-P3-1465-AR? thats the one on evga.com and want to be sure before buying
This was the one I bought at Egg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130555
Again, there is no guagantee so pls don't blame me :)
Its going to be the luck of draw. Be prepared these cards are a beast to cool.
