MagisD, great build you have there! I am sure you will be pleased with the performance of that thing. I noticed a mention about balancing the air-in vs air-out in the case.
I have 5 480 rads myself, all pushing air out of the case. I have lots of cut-outs in the case where the air comes in, I never thought of having some of the rads pulling air into the case, thinking that they will pull in air and heat it at the same time, messing up the temperatures for the other rads; should I reconsider?
I am pleased with the temperatures; even if this setup is out of balance, there are 5 480 rads cooling components that could have been cooled by a just 2 rads.. I am using 20 Noctua NF-P12 fans @ 1300rpm, there is no noise that way. I also had 4 GT's 1850rpm on a rad, but I took them off very fast, they were making more noise than the other 16 Noctua fans..
MagisD, I think you will have some noise coming from those 24 fans @ 1850rpm; are you planing on running them all at full throttle? If so, invest in some sound damping material. All the inside of my case is padded with Akasa sound damper, it does the trick, I can't hear the fans, all I hear is the air sound going out of the case.
terente the only real benefit of positive air pressure (more in than out) Vs negative pressure like yours, is that you can filter the inlet fans to avoid dust in the case.
in your case you would need to filter all the cut outs.
the temps coming out of the rads and through the case are not alot hotter i think. i have 4 fans pumping in and 3 out to maintain positive pressure and then i only need to filter the front 4.
im going with 750rpm fans, they are totally silent, and still pushing 45cfm
i think your right about the 1850s.
maybe MagisD is old and deaf enuff not to care :D
terente0081: yes, preheated air from some rads might drop cooling efficiency of others. But why not put simple radless fans then on those intake fan holes?
rad less fans!! thats crazy talk! get back to the air forum!
Lol.... all the fans are on a controller , lamptrons fc-2 on its own plug to Ps. There all going to be undervolted to 1000-1300 rpm to be silent. I'm extremely picky about noise.
There's also 5 fans on back that are intakes with no rads so I have plenty of cool airflow in case. Also all holes are dustfilter in and out due to i live in a dusty city. Any opening will let dust in if not filtered.

i get alot of dust in my case too, thats why i went for positive pressure, and got some nifty magnetic filters

Didn't want the decmi ones.
And yaaaaaa my fans have shipped placing order for remaining little parts now.

So I got my fans and was going to create custom fan harness's 1 to 4.
But since I had to sleeve them anyway where they come unsleeved now.
I bounce idea's off my wife and when were talking about this she asked me why I was doing 3x the work and not just connecting them together ..... As usual ... she's right ...... I think she had that put in our wedding contract
So I just soldered them 1 to 4 parallel. I left most of the original cable on and sleeved it in case I change it up after. The actuall connections and cables are being hidden behind mesh covering the space in between the rads.
But here are a few pics of the fans sleeved ( badly, due to my carpal tunnel)
I'll start installation tonight.

jesus, make sure this rig doesnt take off like a helicopter when you turn all those fans on :ROTF:
So i have all the fans installed

My only problem is screws I misjudged length when installing res and mdpc-x cable clamps instead of mesh. May have punctured 2 rads but i don't think I did they passed an Quick Air pressure test.
The whole mesh cover idea is out the windows seems the mesh is .025 steel and ate 5 dremel cut off disks just to cut 1 18" strip.
So right now cables are held in with black duct tape till i come up with a new design.
I'm open to suggestions and idea please.
Video with them all turning on... get filming, NOW!!
Now I know why Gentle Typhoon are b.o. everywhere! You bought them all! I'm trying to buy some since 2 months and they are ALWAYS out of stock!
Nice build. I love those MM cube build. So easy to work with, so much space. :)
lol and I thought I was intense with 4x triples (one in push pull). I think you'll be surprised by the noise, I rarely turn my 16 fans on anymore, except if I play music on my headset. On the plus side, you'll find that you can keep your i7 at 4.5-4.6ghz on passive cooling no problem ;)
you will defiantly need clearance from air traffic control before you start that thing up! :D
Spent 4 hours today trimming screws with the dremel.
ok panels are wired , cable clipped till I figure out how to cut this mesh.
couple of pics, res and pumps are sleeved and installed.
Sorry no video ... I messed with cam on my se x10, apparently till the update hit it films horribly.

Panel down !!!! Panel Down !!!!!
LOL, leak testing last night and my top panel was hemorrhaging. fittings and slow leak in the middle rad at the back ... right where it would drip onto mb. I need the comp for work tomorrow. So the top panel off system for I can work on it over the week. fronts testing like a champ and dammmmmm 2 mcp-35x in insane pressure and speed ;-)
I'm liking that brown you're testing on the wall.
omg dude you spent about as much on fans as i spent on my whole LC setup :O minus a few BP fittings.
btw how is the mcp35x in comparison to the 350/355 mostly about sound ..
i got a 350, and at full it's way too loud, but at 7v or whatever it is near perfect. how are those on lower percentages?
the 35x at full rpm sound like little rc cars just a steady whine haven't hooked them up to pwm header yet.
Leak testing today went perfectly...kinda made me paranoid. Usually there 1 fitting or something that needs tightening ....installed mb and blocks and 0 leaks on first test. let it run for a couple of hours while I puttered around the house.
couple of pics with all lc installed (except top panel that's out for a week while I replace a rad) and get a few more fittings.
its too bad i need this comp up and running all week for work otherwise I'd be done by Wednesday.

MUHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Its alive ! ;-)
This is some GT's pron !
great work MagisD, hang on !
more updates!! this is insane but 6 rads???? i thought my 2x 480s were overkill haha
Well comp's up but on life support ATM .
Few problems
1. leaky Mcr-420 rad needs replacing ( I punctured it) .. have to order one this week after CC payment clears maxed the damn thing out twice so far on this build
2. Lamptron FC-2 completely Fubar .. 1 Channel 1 fried itself for no good reason the Capacitor on back of HS exploded and there an Insane high pitch whine anytime I try to go under 50%( knew it might happen)
So I need a new fan control system.. since i sold my old comp I said the hell with it, I Shot off a few e-mails about getting a full aquaero's system if Somebody can explain how it works/ hooks up properly to Support my 7 channels of 4 gt 1850's. Any body an expert or have a heavy setup PM me please.
Either that or try out a Lamptron FC-touch for the rads and hook the remaining 5 fans to MB.
Right now I'm only running 2 rads on a half burnt out Scythe kazemaster.
I still need to sleeve the PS and trim all the Fan cables I made I slightly over estimated LOL , only needed 4 feet made em all 6 ;-)
I also need to figure out how to cut the steel mesh to make the Divider for under the MB support This Stuff its 18 gauge steel black Powder coat cutting 1 strip ate 5 dremel High density cutting blades.
Well new Swiftech Quad rads on its way thanks to ncix.
Luckily Aquaeros is out of stock everywhere otherwise i wouldn't of sorted out I only need 1 watt per fan and found this Sentry LXE. Since my pumps are PWM off motherboard just need fan control and since I have no front facing opening of any kind it's perfect. 3 channels 8watts/fan per for rads 1 channel 5 watts /fans for case fans and 1 extra for lighting.
The whole mesh inside cover idea is out the window my PS extends out to where i want to place it ;-(
Now to just get everything in and cleaned up ;-)
So I really should of planed for more overhead, one mcp-35x is defective , and an annoy high pitch whine/chirping sound I was trying to track down turn out it the MB most people wouldn't even hear it but with my sound sensitivity its annoying as hell.
i have the same squeaky problem with my 680i
Come up with any solutions beside replacing MB ?
This thread is so epic, it needs theme music...music about overkill in drug collection, not necessarily GT collection!

Nice work MagisD. Subed.
Thanks for all the comments
New parts incomeing
Rampage 3 Extreme
And
Koolance R3E full cover block
That's to replace my MB which I'm RMA'ing back to Evga, they'll just send me a new one but that's fine I have A friend who will buy if not I can always sell elsewhere.
And i have a nice Six core I7 970 Coming to replace my 940 for Christmas :-) and Maybe My 30 inch Monitor Hp ZR30W

R3E is a piece of crap and I hate mine. Seriously.
STAY AWAY. Lacking crucial options that your EVGA board has.
You've been warned. I'm pissed I spent $380 on a board that can't overclock as well as a $210 UD3R. :caution:
play loud music :\
it's an evga too. the 680i sli boards were pretty notorious to have high pictched squeal comming from the R50 things next to the cpu with any form of OC
i would use a piece of tubing to localize the sound to the specific area and see if touching it helps the sound
Totaly overkill for that build ;D
Need some better photos mate ;D
So got my new mcr-420 and went to install it today and its different the the previous 6 I bought.
Matte black instead of shiny black.
Ports much smaller/smoother outside. And are couple mm shallower.
Caseing different grade metal doesn't flex like old one's.
Overall its all improvements, just allmosted messed me upwhere ports different depths and i was useing sli fittings to connect em.
Anybody else encounter new rev?
Easy to tell old ports are shaped like nuts, new ones smooth and round.

So the rads are good to go 4 hours leak tested and no leaks :-)

does it look odd?
gota pic?
Remembered to snap one during install

Mb installed and now leak testing.
Execpt for rma my second mcp-35x and installing the new one. And my dec chip upgrade. Hardwares done.
Now on to fans and cables ...... when my hands permit.

omggg keep it up! U shoulda stuff like quad 580's in there to keep all those rads happy.
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Its ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
The cabling's a monster need to completely do cable management but its running and quite ;-). BTW My sleeving sucks and i know it damn carpal tunnel, I figure 2-3 week before i can work on it again now.

Fans, rads, tubes... oh! look, a computer on the left side! Didn't see that there haha
oooh is THAT what that is?!?!....
i thought it was just the fan controller.....
you can rent that thing out as storage space
edit:
So MD, what sort of temps are you getting?
No idea I think i have bad Cpu mount temps are way high. 50ish idle after a couple hours of light gameing .
any updates on your build? just curious to see some completed pics :)
Naa its a disaster. Nothings really changed. Tried a couple cable management ways all turned out crap.
Haven't been able to sleeve due to carpal tunnel.
Just picked up a pair of gtx 570 to sli with koolance blocks. Gona take another crack at it.
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
Damn this is an impressive build. Too bad about your carpal tunnel, if I lived near you I'd bring a case of beer over and do all your sleeving for you!
Keep at it, you'll get there
Tossed out custom cables ki made they were crap. Just sata sleeving the gpu power cables now. should have some new pics tomorrow.

Good luck with finishing that rig bro! I know how tuff it is with the carpo tunnel.. Been there many years ago with having that big time in both hands! Was like being paralized. Could'nt do crap for many many months. Depression and everything set in just cause of that. No fun and i would'nt wish that on my enemies!
Had it again in one hand for the past few months while building my rig.. I believe its brought on from alot of stess. Took months before i could feel my last 3 fingers on the right hand which finally i can.
Heres my build which i finished somewhat a month or 2 ago. Still have yet to find time to finish the lighting.. have the new lights just gota install them. heh.
No Tomorrow Rig
Ok damn I think you Stole My overkill title , 6 pumps quad sli ... nice....
So i dropped about 500-600 with nils ... I probably tossed out and or destroyed 60% of it messing up ... I manged to sleeve my soldered fan cables but not that well but to much work to redo .
made customer gpu power cables and screwed those up .
So I finally gave up and did quick and dirty Sata sleeve on them.

Once I get the 2 eps 8 pin and MB 24 pin done gona route and clean them up.
Then its time in install a Floating panel on the bottom to hide all the cable runs I'm not happy with.
I figure for my birthday or something i'll get the wife to let me order a bunch of cables from martin at http://psychosleeve.com/
Something I forgot to add you could get the sata heatshrink to seal perfectly on the ends of the gpu plugs.
But that requires you to small heatshrink each cable end like you were doing single sleeve, before you put on the sata to increase bulk and give the sata sleeve a tacky surface to stick to.
Too bad I ran out of small heatshrink.
One of my mistakes but perfect example of what i'm talking about.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_8...0/DSC_0389.jpg
:) Thanks!
Hey, can always do what i've done and that just buy extensions that already come modded with single cable sleeved.. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...c157454c1be115.
Even microcenter carries them if there local to you..
Though i had to re-sleeve the ones i bought cause they didnt have the right color i needed locally and was in a hurry.
Figured it was alot easier to buy extensions and single cable sleeve them then doing the whole P/S which i did'nt want to void warrenty and its a good thing cause i already had to RMA that power supply.
Honestly sleeving them all together is alot cleaner then how i did it with a wall and a half of cables in the way of the graphics cards.
Doing the above would be perfect for someone with carpo tunnel! :)
Ya, but I wanted to try. All my cables are the same as your exts due to being a completely modular ps an ax 1200.
If I buy extensions it'll be off martin he's a master. And with my setup I can just use 18 inch ext as my main cables PS is centrally located du to custom cut panels. Just have to Change one end to fit the Corsair one for my psu.
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
wow lookin good
I'm thinking of removing all the sleeveing from most of my system, I have the Atx PS cable bare now and honestly it looks better in my system then the sleeve.

Just need a good clip /tidy solution
Single sleeveing is not going to happen period. every time i try i mess up my hands for a week.
I was looking at the texture, look against the rest of my case. The fabric look of the sleeveing is working for cables ( allready single sleeved) running the fans but for the MB pci-e and Eatx and 24-pin its going bare black. the sata sleeve solution i have on there now not working and single sleeve doen't look that good either in midair.
necro REZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So just an FYI , the overkill beast is going up for sale, Moving and can't fit it in the new condo along with the baby that's coming along ;-).
Its in the Toronto ON, Canada area
