closer inspection of the manual and the board has shown me the light! now, where is that 1.20 version of the bios?
so after going into the bios it actually showed me that version P1.20 is already installed on the motherboard.
Asrock 890GX Extreme3 + PII X2 555BE
Assembled system with stock heating and 1600 CL7 RAM.
CPU around 40C.
BIOS 1.10 + Seven Ultimate.
Enabling UCC in BIOS I get X4 but Windows can't boot. The strange thing is that I tryed any core combination in BIOS but always get lock or BSOD, even activating CORE0 only. There must be something to setup, I've left all defaults except for hdd controller to AHCI.
ASRock 890GX Extreme 3 + PII X2 555 --> PII X4 B55
Stock fan using G.Skill 1600 CL9 RAM
CPU around 40C as well
Bios P1.20 + Ubuntu 10.04 beta2
BIOS 1.51 if someone want to try

// not official
Beta? , what is with the A
Awesome :D
Almost finnished :p:
stay with 1.20 it is the far best till now , running 1.53 here atm but the shutdowns again after settings made.
don't be afraid. This BIOS works fine.
look at this..
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1132113
X6 @ 6292.46 MHz @ ASRock 890GX Extreme3
I tried 1.10 1.20 and 1.51a but always have the same result.
If I enable UCC I get X4 from BIOS but XP can't complete boot, goving lock or BSOD.
The weird thing is that I try any core combination but it's always the same even if set to monocore with CORE0 only.
It works well with same settings and UCC disabled.
???
What should I try?
So what's the overall opinion of this board from folks who have used it (ASrock 890GX)?
From what I've read in this thread, most results look pretty positive.
My GBT 890GX died on me, and I've always liked the looks of this board.
I like the layout, the color scheme and the features...
I've never had an ASRock, but this board caught my eye from the first time I saw it!
I was going to wait for the 890FX boards, but I really don't need all the extra PCI-e lanes (no intention of running Xfire anyway).
I'm a dedicated AMD guy so I like the underdog. ASRock seems to be the underdog of Mobo manufacturers (they just try harder ;)), I respect that!
Oh yeah, for the folks who were conserned about cost and were considering the 880g version of this board, the one thing I would worry about would be the PWM sections of those boards!
They look like they're 4+1 on the power, personally, I've had really bad luck with 4+1 boards (maybe I just abuse them too much :D)...
From my experience with PHII boards the few extra $$$ for the GX and 8+2 power would be money well spent.
overclocked? or stock? , maybe something with the chip, with 1.20 bios i have no problems whatsoever with unlocking. don't think it has something to do with the bios version.
The board is fine, nothing wrong with it, even at high speed en voltage's, my choice howeve should be the 890 Fx becouse of a bit more performance.
I have been happy with the board thus far. a few hangups here and there were it wont boot after i exit the bios, it gets stuck on a boot up loading screen. but seeing as i am running a beta OS, i am not ready to chalk it up to the MB, especially since it doesnt happen every time. To be truthful at first i was going to get the ASUS 890gx board but then i saw the ASRock and figured hey i would take a chance with them. been happy since.
Sir Rol-co any chance of sharing the 1.2 bios...
Edit : ow I forgot to say plz
ASRock 890GX Extreme3 allows to unlock two additional cores of Zosma
http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/1...alzosma.th.jpg http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/2...nlocked.th.jpg
interesting :)
Nice going ASrock :)
how much is the Zosma going to cost here in the US?
QUESTION:
Whats the lowest voltage you can set for RAM on this board?
The lowest I can get on this GBT 790XT-UD4P is 1.6v.
I'm sure my Mushkin (BBSE's) don't need that much.
Will the bios let you go down to 1.35v?
Thanks..... Dave
the minimum voltage you can set is 0.987V
con anyone give me the bios setting to overclock 1055T with this mobo, i just bought this mobo but im noob for oc
please need guide
there are a few ways you u can try this
let us know how high you can go on the FSB @ default Voltage
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/3...664baad3c0.jpg
now im running at 240 fsb but why does the multi always come to 14 at full load , like when i try prime small ftt, why not 16,5???
^ multi is locked & my guess it would changed only in turbo mode??? anyone???
pretty sure prime loads more than 3 cores so it will run x6 w/ 14x240 - if you run a program that uses 3cores or less it will run the 3cores being used at 16.5x240
anyone can give me the setting so i can run my 1055T higher than 250 fsb which one should i cange in bios with this mobo, help please
People on Newegg are giving the board such bad reviews. Alot of people saying they cant get it to post. As someone who had a trouble free experience with this board and as so loves the board. kind of disappointing :(
Newegg Asrock 890gx - Reviews
Yes sir !! :D
http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/screenshot/1139540.png
I've got 6 of them, they all post... ;)
PS - Any new BIOS? Need 1.53A or newer, please.
PS - My 555 @ 4GHz (dual core only), and 3.8 @ x4 (3rd core chrashes when over 3.8GHz, not lucky again).

Valg, onTOPtheROCK said "a lot of people" on the Newegg site are giving the board bad reviews. I said, only two - only two people ;)
Alot, being a relative term. there are actually four reviews, one being the one i gave... and the other three saying they couldnt get a post. So 75% of the reviews. to me that is a lot... plus i like the board, would hate for people not to give it a chance because of others' misfortune.
hmmmmm never had any problem from the start even till Bios updates, i guess they are having some compatibility issues of some sort or what they got needs some serious RMA :D
what is
htt voltage and northbridgge voltage use for?
sorry noob question
it looks as if some of the negatory reviews are done by the same person.....so few reviews it is hard to really DRAW a conclusion.....I have used AsRock boards for many years, have two builds with the AsRock 939 Dual Sata II still up and running, keep upgrading the CPU's and mems, still running strong....using and AsRock 790 board right now, clocks and works as good as any DFI pain in the arse boards did.....
It is a good way to save some hard earned for those on a really tight budget, I can afford the more expensive, but why would I spend more for nothing other than some kind of E-penus braggin' rights on some righteous expensive OC'ing board that really doesn't perform any better in DAY to DAY usage...
laterzzzz.......
I am really confused .
UCC unlocks cores but then windows freezes, can't finish the startup.
BTW even disabling UCC, the "Active Core Control" option must be set to "All Cores" or I get the same behavior! There is no combination of cores that work, even if I put it to 1 core "core 0".
Why is this? What could I try? What voltages could I set to give it another try?
its a bug, you need to clear the cmos if you want to get your cpu back to two cores. atleast thats the easiest way. then once you get that try unlocking just three cores when you start. from the sound of it one or possibly even both of the disabled cores arent working.
thats the bug, once you enable the UCC option and then try disabling it, even though it says it is disabled it still leaves the 4 cores unlocked. you can check this by after selecting how many cores, reboot and go into the bios again and see how many how many cores are listed on the first screen of the bios.
New unofficial bios v1.53 w/ new options: AMD IO C-State Support + Turbo UCC

hmm, you said you have tried other bios versions?
anyone tried install win7 @ raid0 on this mobo?
For comparison my 7200.12 drive on SB750/SATA2 (IDE mode):

The cache size and burst speed are the only noticeable improvements with the new SATA3 drives.

This review has better numbers for the 1TB version of the Caviar Black SATA3 but they used HD Tach and I don't know how well that correlates to HDTune... I tried to install HD Tach just now and it gave me an error message saying it requires XP/Windows2000. :p:
where can i get the 1.20 bios
anyone can disable turbo x6 1055T with this mobo, im already disable it at bios, but the turbo still kick. right now im using bios 1.51
please need guide
why trying to disable it?
i would like to oc without the turbo, because the turbo messing around when windows startup such when i run @3710 [ 265 x 10 ] when turbo it becomes more than 4ghz, make crash
Possible... why? because its the same :)
today i was playing a little and found out that one core of my chip has trouble to do 2600 nb at 1.20v nb. so i unlocked the cpu and in windows i had 4 cores and checked with affinity wich core give me the error on that 1.20v .
it was core 3 , 0-1-2 running fine at that speed. so i went back to the bios and selected 0-3 and back to windows ...... zero fine , 1 (bios 3) error.
went back and selected 0-2 .... same issue , zero fine , 1 (now 2) error
again went back, selected 0-1 ......you would guess already :(.same effect.
so no matter if you select 4 or 2 , or stock , always the same core.....and you have a bad chip i think.
Has anyone tried the BIOS version 1.40 from ASRock's site? ASRock
Bad chip? Maybe bad for unlocking:
UCC: disabled
CPU Active Core Control: All Cores
AMD Overdrive :
"The result of last successful tune is:
Last CPU clock is: 200 MHz
Last HT Link ref. clock is: 200 MHz
Last CPU multiplier is: 19.5 X"
tested at 18X with no problems, not that bad
according to the link -
ASRock 890GX Extreme3 Motherboard is first board to unlock Phenom II X4 and turn it into a X6
http://en.ocworkbench.com/tech/exclu...to-a-x6/all/1/
too bad they can't make a black edition of one of those babies!
^ can't or Wont :D
what kind of overclock's have you guys been getting with this board, especially since i know alot of you guys are using the same CPU as me (555)?
a simple +30% from BIOS works fine for me, a run of AMD overdrive went up to x19.5
but I did more tries about unlocking, without luck, but I see that situation improves rising both CPU and NB voltages, what do you think is the upper limit for them? I went up to 1.6/1.4 and windows boots but explorer crashes, able just to launch taskmanager
and still can't understand why any combinations of single or dual cores does not work, is there a way to exclude core0 and use other two or three cores like cores 2, 3 instead of core 0 or cores 0, 1 - 0, 2 - 0, 3 ?
We tested a 555 for the Azerty compo, works fine here up to 4.2 (2800mhz NB) on air ( it's a hothead though) at 1.425Vcore... more speed is fully limited by the cooling...
For those that run Thuban on this motherboard, with beta bios 1.51 I have loads of of overvolting Vcore issues (eg 1.35 bios is 1.41 under load), anyone experiencing the same ?
all 890GX Extreme3 motherboards have same issue.
I emailed Asrock about the problem and they answered two times sending BIOS 1.2 and now 1.72. CPU Active Core Control selection is different but I am still not able to make it work in any combination even with one or two cores only, all is fine only with UCC and ACC disabled.
Anyway thanks to Asrock for answering and continuosly updating the BIOS.
cpu steady with newbios ? , still have a random speed of 50mhz difference .......all the time.
And better voltage's .....?
No C & Q is disabled but have random speed of 50mhz difference up and down , voltage at the bios not correspondending with cpu-z .
So what is the verdict? what bios is the best so far?
1.20 best of all here
ASRock 890 FX is finally up on the ASRock official website.
Hi guys,
Got the 890GX Exterem3 + X2 555 since yesterday and I was able to unlock the two extra cores so it became a X4 B55. I've had it Prime95 stable for 3 hours so I decided to reboot and install some new drivers. After this the CPU returned to a X2 555 again and so far I've not been able to unlock the two extra cores again. I've tried it with every bios available on the Asrock website, but no prevail. Anyone knows what I might be doing wrong? Since I had it prime stable for 3 hours the two cores must be working good right?
Regards, Quintus
When you reboot the board shut down, depents on the bios though , with 1.20 bios it won't do that and it stay's at 4 core's , thats why i said 1.20 is far best for unlocking.
unfortunaly its not on the website but anybody who pm me their e-mail can get it by mail from me. :)
Got Any 1.6x+? :)
possible to share the 1.7 bios plz, hope it fixes the Thuban issues
Thanks for the 1.2 bios Rol-Co, it works! It's a quadcore now but the name is different and so are the clock speeds:

cool & quiet possibly enabled in bios?
Hello,
Somebody know, where on the 890gx are the point to measure Vcore and Vmem?
I Have 955 and for now I try 1.0, 1.1 and 1,51a and the best oc I have on 1.51a. I see, there is a new official 1.6, but I read, you have 1.7, If someone send me the newest bios, I would be grateful.
using a logitech too, what issues are you having ?
My 1.51 lost the multies several times during the LN2 sessions, sadly we didn't have internet at the 3rd AOCM event (great OC event) in Germany to grab the 1.2 on my FTP...
Board was rock stable under LN2 (once the bios recognised the correct settings lol )

mmm my delete doesn't work on the G11, luckily you can also press F2 to enter with ASrock :p
Will pass it trough, the G110 keyboard isn't working at all ?
I dont have such a problem with 1.51a. Maybe because I use only simple WC. But if you have more stabel on 1.2, I would try him too, but could you send him to me on pw.
You have pm Jarek 135
Leeghoofd - Thanks, I get bios.
On 1.2 I have to set more V then on 1.51a. I try official 1.6 and he is worst then 1.51a too. I stay on 1.51a... For now;)
100% Ht bus on air :welcome:

Anyone try bios 1.80?????
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2593/37ghzunlock.jpg
I use bios 1.60
Where i can find manual setting UCC like ACC with % per core??? Because my X2 555BE only unlock X3, The last core look like defect.
Sorry if my english bad...............
When i use bios 1.20, there's no shutdown again when UCC enable. But if UCC disable my proc keep reading X4. So, the only thing i can do, clear cmos. Is there another setting??? thx
You can now press X at boot to activate Turbo UCC on the fly, or D to disable, nice feature!
