my new one is here and its got a lower vid than my last:D
this one is batch # 3936B105 vid is 1.14v.will post some results soon:up:
Why do you think lower vid is better? Silicon is not binned like that, its binned on temperature under load, therefore higher vid means better quality silicon.
My high vid chips have always clocked better than same batch low vid.
Batch is as always most important though. I'll take a low vid good batch over a high vid average or bad any day.

mostly all vid for these benches were around 1.25 - 1.35
my favorite boards for clarks I would say the maximus III formula for very easy to understand bios and ram clocking/ high qpi.
and for budget boards under $100.00 its either biostar th55xe or H55m-usb3
I also liked the biostar tpower i55 but I killed mine a little early due to heavy condensation.
4. I have a pentium clark G6950 I need to bench still. Its 12/01/09 - batch 3941B412
just like in MIA's guide. just start with your cpu and leave your ram on auto and run it out around 1600mhz and run your qpi at the lowest ratio to start out. get your max bclk figured out 1st. once you start going above 200 bclk you will notice your expensive high speed ram you wasted 300 bux on doesnt want to run at 2500mhz. so run it around 1600 - 1800 and just get it as tight as possible. once your ram is maxed out you can start bumping up your qpi ratio and run a spi 1m and watch your time get better and better as your raise the qpi ratio. just keep going on the qpi until you error out and keep the last best qpi you had that was the highest stable. if you think your ram has some more juice in it go back and see if you can make it run a bit higher or tighten it some more. just get it all working together and find your sweetest spot (best bclk, cpu ratio, qpi, ram speed/timings) now you are ready to start benching the prerequisites ie. spi 1m, 32m, pifast, cpuz, 3dm 2001-vantage, am3 etc. etc. use the latest cpuz (they fixed the ram bug finally) submit and have fun!

havent really tried pushing the cpu yet,and my new i7-920 and X58 board
gets here tomorrow so i'll be testing it out next, not sure when i'll get back
to the i3-530 or even if i do.all depends on how well my new setup OC's
radaja, always chasing the overclocks any many different platforms . and i like how your idle temps are way below ambient (yeah i know, it's just inaccurate software readings).
how do you guys find what the VID is on these chips? realtemp does not display them.
im using AC so its very cold, about 4c-5c air blowing on my cpu with a 5000RPM fan.so mine are accurate.
with mine to find the vid just load optimized defaults the reboot set your hardrives and stuff the way you want them
the disable the advance cpu features(speedstep/EIST) and reboot and do either of these.
1.go back into bios and see what auto set your vcore to. or
2.boot into windows and start the software that came with MB(ET6)and open voltage page to see what vcore auto set.
I have another 2 to add - one poor and discarded, the other still working on it :).
3941B415 - my original 530. Vid 1.1875v. 4.4ghz ht on @ 1.40v 96c/91c w/ mem at 2000mhz 8-9-8 (needs 0.04v more vcore for 10x mem compared to 8x mem).
3943A999 - terrible batch. Vid 1.2875v. Runs very cool though. Max clock 4.32ghz HT on @ 1.46v @ 83c/79c linx.
L945B968 - runs VERY hot. Vid 1.15625v. Still testing but i'm going ot need water for this one. So far 4.0ghz @ 1.19v @ 71c/67c. 12c hotter than my 3941B @ 4.0ghz/1.19v.
Still not seen anything that can approach 4.5ghz HT on no matter what volts I throw at it. Think you need to look out for stuff made before '09 week 40. Newer batches don't seem to be clocking as well.
L945B968 - additional core temp under load is from running dynamic vid. My other 530's do not behave in this way. By manually setting the same vcore as supplied by using Dvid Linx is generating a max load temp 10 to 12c lower on average. Very strange behaviour - have repeated this three times now including swapping to 3941B415 and back again. Definitely not a bad socket contact or heatsink mount.
Also Everest reports lower idle wattage when using fixed voltage compared to dvid when overclocked.
hey raj. I'll send the G6950 results when I get home. I benched all weekend.

I actually had a cpuz submission at 4890mhz spi 1m @ 9.39sec but I screwed up and the ss was blnk. I think I hit ctrl c and copied in paint instead of pasting so I ended up with a blank jpg. i may have submitted a live cpuz validation but I cant remember. Is there a way to see all my validations of cpuz? I really wish I had this cpu on a board that gets better bcklk. my max III formula seemed to max out around 230 or so. after that it just wouldnt go. there was a lot of room left in this cpu. I think I only scratched the surface of this g6950.
Crap I got a L942B539 i3 540.
At least it is MALAY and not from Crappy Rica.
Well I'll give it a go anyways when I build and see what the vid is (use coretemp for vid, right?).
Might be surprised, who knows?
with your gigabyte board just load optimized defaults and reboot and go back into bios and see what auto sets as vcore, thats the vidQuote:
Well I'll give it a go anyways when I build and see what the vid is (use coretemp for vid, right?).
My reported bios vid changes. Can report anywhere from 1.05625v to 1.18750v - seems to be stability related. Thing is when I get it stable it them "remembers" the last vid it set until I get unstable again or clear cmos.
Wouldnt trust the bios vid.
CPUz can read the vid if you alter the cpuz.ini file. Edit "Sensor=1" to read "Sensor=0" and it will display your vid rather than reading your current voltage.
[EDIT - Just tested this and its not working on my i3/P55. Works fine on my E8500/Q35 though. Don't know if its a motherboard issue or it doesnt work with i* cpu's?]
all my gigabyte boards(P45/P55/H55/X58)have worked flawlessly in this regard.disable advance cpu features
and leave vcore on auto and it shows what the cpu has programmed into it as it default vcore.
hey radaja or anyone else in the thread.. I had some fun last night with the i5 660 on the maximus III formula. hwbot seems to be down at the moment so I'll try to send some screens instead and you can validate later. is there a way I can log into cpuz canard and log into my account and see my submissions or does it not keep track by username and email? I really need to get the valid id off a particular G6950 bench. I think I had something good and I never saved a screenshot but I did submit to the database online and got a url but I have no idea what it was!
i dont know on that.there should be a way to recover old url's.i know ive lost a lot of them and cant remember what happened to them.
EDIT- i just logged into this url and it brought up all my submissions
CPU-Z Validator 3.00
sweet! hang on! here are the i5 660 results from last night. I ran out of ln2 a bit early. I was being such a puss with the vcore. I shoulda just cranked it from the getgo. oh well at least the cpu still works. I gotta say this maximus 3 Extreme has been to hell and back and it always works. I mustve done a really good job when I sprayed it down with conformal coating. I was just getting started :(

its funny. I dont know if I would consider it cheating but pay attention to the cpuz screens you see on hwbot. a lot of them disable cores. You can get gains by disabling and shutting off hyper threading and doesnt effect spi. I guess its legal but its sorta bullcrap cuz you arent really in the same category anymore. I can see using less memory..etc. but disabling cores to get ahead of everyone else? anyone want to elaborate on this?
yea with my first i3-530 i was trying to do 5.GHz like others and i later noticed they were only using two cores(HT/off)
great results trans am
Believe me man I've tried every combination of bios settings to try and sort this. If I enable dynamic vid my vid changes as I scroll between the voltage options. Now confirmed on 4 cpu's with this board. I suspected the cpu socket at first but everything checks out fine. Mine is an old generation foxconn socket, been keeping a careful eye on it.
Another one tested, this is my keeper.

Mem max stable : 2022mhz @ 8-9-8-24-2T-88 | 1820 @ 6-8-6-20-2T-72 | 1916 @ 9-9-9-24-1T-122. 2x2GB G.Skill Eco @ 1.54v.
This cpu is the hottest thing this side of the sun. My zalman 9300 just cannot cope with it. Load temps are ridiculous. 4.52 HT on @ 1.32v gives load temps of 97c in linx. Hoping to get water fitted this weekend, may be held up if the res doesnt show in time. Likes the 19x multi, getting 60mhz more cpu same volts compared to any other multi. Limited by bclk now, cant figure out whats stopping me. Could just be P55 limitation, not seen any other P55 rigs running 235+ 24/7 stable.
Will upload 20 run linx later today.
I have a Core i5 650.
Batch # is L936B721
Max I've had it was 4.25GHz stable with 1.35V vCore.
Better late than never but...
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...stablecrop.jpg
Doesn't need that much vcore - was using the same vcore/vtt from the old chip. Vcore now down to 1.3875 in bios.
Now tweaking memory @ 8x. Can't get 7-9-7 stable at the moment, but it may just need subtiming tweaks. 1900+ at CL 7 is going to push the vtt a bit hard for 24/7 I think. Still learning with this G.Skill eco though, but im loving not having had to use more than 1.54 vdimm so far. Only thing is 1T command rate seems to knock off ~100mhz memory speed. Haven't been able to get it back with voltage, it just stops being stable.
very nice PiLsY
Yeah good going pilsy! Im benching tonight on h55m-usb3
did the cold boot mod and im ripping in at -150c!
i have the i5 660 strapped so expect some good stuff!

Hi, new to this forum. More active over at [H]Forum.
Anyway, I'm just waiting on my second P55A-UD4P to arrive, so I can have fun with an i3 540/H50.
I'll edit this post with info once my UD4P gets here.
i3 540 Batch #3944B043
Thanks for getting me approved radaja.
Thank you for the warm welcome Movieman :)
I've been messing around with this i3 540 and a P55A-UD4P for a few days, and I can hit 4.0 (200X20) X44 QPI with 1.186v/1.31vtt or 4.6 (200x23) x44 QPI with 1.376/1.33vtt. I messed around with a 210 BCLK for a little, but couldn't get it stable without going over 1.4v. I'm cooling with an H50, and selling this crummy OCZ ModX 700w, so I won't have a PSU until next Friday. I just picked up an HX850, which I realize will be incredibly overpowered for this system lol, but the price was just too good.
Anyway, I'll start posting some photos of stability testing when I get the new PSU and here's some chip info.

nice job OC Nub
nice OC!!OC Nub,wow that chip is nice 5.0GHz w/1.53v.very very nice indeed.is this the same chip you had?
^^Thank you.
Yes its the same chip, I was using the 26multi or Turbo set to enabled. Then I tried disabling it and using the 25 multi, it did much better, less vcore required for the same clocks.
wow that's an awesome chip. i don't think i've seen a linx stable chip at 5ghz. is this watercooling?
to rajaja
what Vcore did you have to set in the H55M UD2H bios to get 4.5ghz and ??? stable???(for you old i3 530)
I don't mind if it's high because all this chip has to do is last a month or two so I can update the bios...
the real beauty will be next month...
Thanks mate

update: OOPS never mind found it...thanks
I have my i3 @ 4.2ghz. ha
got my new i3-530 vid 1.13v but so far not having any luck in the OC dept with my UD7
@OC Nubcan you post you bios setting for the UD7 for 200 bclk?
normally i can fire up every chip i get at 200 bclk with in about 5 min but
this new chip i cant even get it to boot at 200bclk on the ud7.
Hey radaja, I will install the board this weekend and see. I didnt save any settings, I had gone back to the UD6 because I had better luck with it. The UD7 did boot with higher bclk but seemed to be harder to get stable, at least for me.
Is this the first Clarkdale you have tried on the board? I had a heck of a time with it at first.
yea it the first clarkdale with the ud7.
EDIT-i did a fresh install and lowered my memory to 1200 and now have
no problem what so ever doing 20x200:Dhell even with super low volts:up:
i think my supertalent hypers dont like the ud7,i cant get them to run even at 1600 cl9

thank you so much for all the SS's OC Nub,seems my IMC really does suck on this chip.
for 200bclk and memory at 1600 cl9 i need 1.36v.right now im trying 200/1600 cl8 and its failing
with 1.38v so i will keep working at it.im doing 18x200@3600 with vcore at 1.20v(more than needed)
to rule out the cpu and focus on the IMC.
by the way what kind of ram you running.im running the ST hypers, just wondering if the higher voltage ram
is causing my problems.
also if your running 1.66vdimm and set the ref's to 0.83v thats half, and thats what ET6 shows for half 0.750
so i think ET6 is showing it correctly.if you try setting it to 1.66v vdimm and ref at 0.84v it should the show
0.76 in ET6 i think.
Hey radaja, I am using the dominator gt 2000c8 right now. Still playing around with the board today, I am not sure what I was doing wrong before but had a hard time getting stable. Now it is running pretty good.
I guess setting the ref's manually to .830 is the same as leaving them at normal when using 1.66vdimm?
yes from what i understand.normal is half of vdimm, which will then show 0.75 in ET6.
do you know if running lower cas requires more vtt or is cas controlled only by vdimm?
i have been told confilcting info regarding this.i will test this today but just wondered
if your testing has come to any solid facts regarding this.right now im running
18x200@3600 ddr3-1600 cl8 with 1.36v vtt and 1.62v vdimm,priming now for 30m
also whats the fastest program for testing memory.(vtt and vdimm).i dont want to run hours of prime
to see what vtt is needed to be stable.is super PI 32m a quick decent test for vtt?or would linx be better?
im running on a 32b install of XP.
I am sick of blend and linx runs as well, so I have been running a bunch of other tests last night and today. It is nice to see something other than gflops and lucas lehmer iterations for a change, it may not pass blend or linx but it doesnt crash in vantage, 06, wprime 1024m, pcmark 05, pcmark vantage or y cruncher. Im not sure about the best program to use, but of these programs hyperpi is the hardest to pass for me.
In 32bit os linx will only allow 2gb to be tested, are you using a 4gb kit? I was able to pass all these at 205, 215, and 225bclk using 1.380vtt so I am not sure about needing more vtt for higher ram speeds. It may have needed less for 205bclk but I havent tried lowering it yet.

thats what im thinking to for my situation(32b OS) concerning linx.but i have notice a lot a benchers
stating that they needed a certain amount of vtt to pass 32m super pi.so thats what im going to be trying
today to see if it is indeed a decent indicator(test) for finding optimum vtt voltage for certain cas and clocks
your pics look great.i have my WCing stuff setup so i can change boards quickly.the whole loop can be pulled
out of the case with out having to tear it down.

Finally pulled some mem speed out of the classy.
WOW, that is great!
I had a hard time with memory on my ftw board, nice work.
very nice results Splave!!
well im currently running 18x200 ddr3-1600 cl7 with vdimm at 1.66 and vtt at 1.36v
priming now with large ffts for 25m and all is good,i think my vtt problem was due to me trying
to get this chip to run the same as my first one in terms of vtt required for ddr3-1600@200 bclk(1.25v)
now that i have come to terms with the amount this one needs i think all will be good:up:

well it seems to be a decent chip after all.
maybe this one can do 5.0GHz with less than 1.50v?

Thanks guys.
Splave, That is awesome, I cant get 2000 with clarkdale but havent gone above 1.70vdimm.
Max I have been able to get to boot is 236 but far from stable, any higher and I get an error saying boot manager or bootfile corrupt something like that.
Tomorrow I hope to get a 655k chip and try it out, I have never had an unlocked chip using intel, last one I had was an fx60, horrible chip.
Looking good radaja. You seem to have great luck with chips. Pretty similar to the 550 I have as far as voltages. I think though that you'll find above 4.5, the voltage jumps are big. I'm at 1.4 for 4.5, but takes 1.485 for 4.6, and that will fail prime after about 2 hours. I can run most benches at 4.85-4.9, at 5.0, I can just get a 1m pass done.
 Hello people, this is my first post.
It's good to see that good chips are still around.
I am in the market for an i3-530. I definitely want to overclocking it. Anyone know what batch numbers and stores to look for in the Montreal (Canada) area?
*Anyone willing to help me get one is free to PM me as well.
Welcome to XS Lima. radaja put together a nice list of batch #'s and how well they clock on the first page. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...74&postcount=1
I dont know how new it is but went to download P95 and found a newer version, 26.1. Looks like they changed it up a bit. Going to try it out tonight.

thanks.as to the ram,you get them at ewiz.com
SUPERTALENT RAM AT ewiz
also i have the new prime95 and once it started i was like
WTH?core2 starting with the wrong fft?so i just went with what i know:D
@4x4N,thanks.yea this is the lowest vcore reqiured for 4.5GHz for my i3-530's,
and i know how they stop scaling voltage as the frequency goes up.
so im hoping with this one i can at least get 5.0GHz with out having to give
it way too much voltage:D
@lima,welcome to XS's,are you the same lima from tpu by any chance?
as OC Nub said theres a database in the first post.dont know about what stores are in canada?
Thanks for the welcome guys.
@ radaja,Yes, I am that Lima.
Do you guys think those batch numbers can still be found in stores? I figured that by now, they'd all be sold. Anyhow, gonna make a note of them and take a trip to some computer stores to have a look.
BTW, how do I decipher the batch #'s? So that I can know if I run into a batch that was made near the same time as the ones posted already :)
@ radaja, where did you get the i3-530 #3942A608? I'm guessing it was recently?
Thanks again guys. This is also gonna be my first hunt too.

Thanks for the link radaja. Nice results guys!
I think I may try a 655 today, going to see if they have any at the local store. Ran blend last last night at 4600 on my i5-660.

that is one sweet i5-660 you got there OC Nub:D
also if you decide to get some supertalent hypers
dont pay the extra money for the 2200 cl8 or 2000 cl7
kits as they seem to b=do about the same as the cheaper
2000 cl8's
picked up the 655 and just installed it. can only boot with a single stick, updated bios prior to installing the chip and loaded defaults but still cant boot with dual ch memory. giga get to work i want to play.
long cmos clear? what bios you on 10a?
The bios sets the default voltage at 1.13xx and the batch number is in my sig. I got it at Fry's and it was an open box, I guess I got lucky:up:
I also have a 655k that I need to test as well, but I don't think it is going to be as good as my 650:shrug:
There are new bios for these board OCNub, I believe Splave asked stasio and Dino22 about them.
You might wanna try pm'ing Dinos22.
@radaja,OCNub, Splave
Seems like you guys are having lot of fun with these babies. They are indeed very fast and the low heat produce makes it fun to OC beyond 4.5ghz.
Superb results in this thread!
