He truly was an inspirational bloke...will be missed, but will make us work harder
I am devastated to read this news. He was a very inspirational guy. Our XS WCG Team collected donations for Jon and his daughter over the past two months. I sent him the first whole donation, he responded with a picture of his daughter who made me smile. In a few weeks later, I sent to him the second donation, he sent me another new picture of his daughter. But the third time and the last donation I sent to him, he did not respond. I thought he was busy to respond, but never knew this could be happened!
Thank you for what you have given to this site. You will be missed. :(
R.I.P. Jonathan/loonym.
I just saw this.
Wow that really sucks..........
RIP bud, maybe you can talk to the big man up there and get him to give us a little sun shine in light of all the snow we have been getting across the NE US.:D
I think a score or two should be dedicated to his memory @ the XS party for CES this year. Charles? A moment of silence for him too?
His last public post was to Charles in this his thread about being sick.

god bless and rest in peace Loonym, and my prayers go out to your family
things like this are always very sad to hear. it's a big loss. we will pray for his family and him.
......And as I said to you Ash, at the time, thanks for taking on the fund and sending it on.
Sleep easy knowing you have done what you could. We all did.
The one thing all of us would have liked to do is cure that bastard disease that killed him. Death to cancer!! This is the thing that makes this so damn painful. The thing we are all working so hard on has taken one of our own....
My best,
Bob
For crissakes...
One of the few guys who hung out in the IRC channel that was set up. He will be missed. Damn... Just speechless, though I knew he was terminal, just did not ever want to see the day. May his passing free him from pain.
Good Bye Loonym
R.i.p. :(
:( Sad News. Rest in Peace Loonym.
I went missing here for a month and I come back to find this thread - very sad news to come back to when I was hoping to come back to read of him running his cascade and crazy crunchers putting together 32c machines. It was one of those things that you know might happen at any time but you're never prepared to hear, and even though I don't think I've ever spoken directly to him on the forums, knowing what he meant to the WCG team and xtremesystems in general makes this hard news to swallow.
RIP - I wish the best for your daughter, she is a beautiful little girl and we can all be sure of the fact that you'll be watching over her as she grows up (and becomes a cruncher :)).
RIP loonym
Just saw this and made me so sad, never knew John but for his pics or threads...
My condolences to his family.
You Reast In Pace Mate
Sergio
Rest in peace, my friend. You will be missed.
Rest in peace my friend. May you continue to crunch in the sky.
I am away for a few weeks and upon returning I find this :(
When I read about his condition some time ago, I always realised the possibility of his passing was there, but it never occurred to me that it could actually happen... I'm devastated. My condolences to his family and friends...
Rest in peace Jon...
let me tell you a quick story,
i didnt know jon, that is until i got leukemia and was hospitalized for 3 months of the last 12..
jon contacted me when he found out and had nothing but supportive things to say, "stay positive" "keep your head up", this sort of attitude defined the man, keep pushing forward in all situations, you certainly helped me get through it mate,
your an inspiration to many, our thoughts are now with your daughter and family and hoping that everyone works out for them,
see you later mate
I knew this was coming.. and have known for a very long time. And yet, I still feel devastated seeing this logging on after a few days of vacation...
Not sure what to say really.. what I felt I had to say I said to him a long time ago. For the benefit of those that weren't lucky enough to get to know him: Jon was one of the most amazing people I ever knew, and he will be remembered as such. Rest in peace my friend.
RIP my brother....You were an inspiration to all of us at team TPU.
Really sad to see Jon passed away
My regards and best wishes to his family
He was one of the few people that was a breath of fresh air in this place and will be truly missed.
Goodbye my friend
karl
This is sad news. And yet another reason to crunch. RIP Loonym. My condolences to his family.
Somehow i knew that someday this thread will pop up, since haven't seen in forums or irc for weeks.
R.I.P Jon/Loonlym, and best wishes to Annabelle.
Every single time I saw his signature, I was emotionally touched. So sad to hear these news, rest in peace Loonym :(
RIP our loved Jon.. very sad news indeed :(
I hope God gives his family the strength they need to cope with his death.
RIP
Perkam
i've not been around here lately but caught this on a quick stop by and just getting around to posting. this is very sad to see. you will be missed loonym, R.I.P.
deep sadness and wave of strength as an echo of his departure
So sad Loonym you will be missed R.I.P
I read a reply to the thread at TPU and they would like to know when Annabelle's birthday is. Looks like she's got more Uncles than she will know what to do with now...
Please PM me if you don't want to post in the open forum.
Thx,
Bob
Somehow we ( or at least one of us) need to keep in contact with the family or is that get in contact with the family because I feel this "uncles" thing will fly.
I couldn't really bring myself to post here until now, but Jon will indeed be missed. It's heartbreaking to see him go, and I pray his family and daughter will be well taken care of throughout this. Having someone like him pass on is rough, not because he was merely fun, but because he genuinely caused the people around him to be better people. That's no small feat, and one small part of his legacy I hope we continue in his absence.
I am so very sorry to here this. I didn't get to meet him but I had several conversations on here with him.
very very sad news. :(
Its sad but it is a fact of life, some of us will live longer some will not. Jon was unfortunate to get cancer but that is why he felt so strongly for the cause to help get rid of it. Loonym will live on as long as cancer lives.
RIP, it's a shame he's gone, but an even bigger shame that his daughter will never have gotten to know him :(
The first ever PM i had here on XS was from Loonym, it was about the X3360 when it just came out.
Very friendly guy and really helpfull, you will be really missed man.
All the best luck towards the family and friends, R.I.P Jonathan.
wow, bit of a shocker... I just stopped into the WCG section to get all my stuff back online for 2010 and I see this.
RIP loonym
God Bless You friend...i know you are in the better place now
Rest In Peace loonym
Jon will live on, as long as we continue to fight for a cure!
He was such a leader - everyone in the XS community was touched by him.
(keep crunchin' everyone!)
Again, anyone know Annabelle's birthday?
PM, if you don't want to post.....
Thx,
Bob
so sad, you will be missed mate
RIP
Jonathan's (Loonym's) positivity of spirit lives among us and the following generations forever.
I am still using the Core i7 that I bought from him here on XS. He gave me a $15 discount if I would use it for folding (I actually started folding due to Movieman's friendliness). So far, I've done like 3 years worth of WCG folding on that beast.
He built such a beautiful wooden home in Maine (it looked like a log cabin, minus the logs). I only saw one picture of it, but he told me that he spent 2 years building it.
May the positivity of spirit live among us forever.
This thread breaks my heart...
I was not aware he had passed away and was hoping that somehow a miracle would happen and he would get well.
He was one of the nicest guys and he will be missed.
So sad. I was away and did not expect this. Rest in Peace Jonathan. You were a true warrior.
I hit a personal milestone that I'd like to dedicate to Jon.
Help Conquer Cancer 135,559,293 242,933 100:157:04:53:44 [Sapphire Badge (2 years) for Help Conquer Cancer]
I went over 100 years of run-time on the project.
:toast: to Jon......
very sad to hear,Quote:
This is something I think we all knew was coming but all hoped we'd never see.
I had the pleasure to meet Jon twice and the joy of his life his daughter Annabelle.
Rest in Peace my friend.
he seemed different,
seemed like a very good person.
these things kind of land on your head, surprising,
maybe he'll see that even people who never talked to him cared about him,
sad, yet what can be done..
it's the bitter side of life.
may what has happened to you, serve for a better cause..
