No problem. Let us know how updating goes. ;) I should receive two new retail 80GB G2s tomorrow. I'm hoping that they're already updated.

SCREENSHOTS ! ! ! :D :D :D
Just updated; One of my 80gb g2's
CrystalDiskMark 2.2 100MB results:
Before update: 253.3MB / 79.1MB
After update: 259.9MB / 91.33MB
Not bad.
Anyone able to read the Release Notes?
Updated with no problems.
Sure, i never run those ones though so i can't give you before update results..Quote:
Can you post results at random R/W ?
Seq = 254.2MB / 91.31MB
512k = 161.9MB / 91.35MB
4K = 25.72MB / 75.46MB
It's made the write about 10MB faster compared to the shipping firmware,
but the read's more or less the same.
I've got 4 of these 80 GB drives in RAID0 currently with the shipped firmware 02G9.
I posted my current performance here.
Is there any real reason for me to flash the drives being that I can't use TRIM in RAID?
I can't see any benefits - just risk.
Updating now. I take it the SSD Toolbox is still not up?
You can read : Release Notes (docx)?
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/1836...tes%202.1.docx
Not sure. I'm not hugely familiar with how the technology works. I would have assumed the TRIM command would be passed to all new HD activity and that existing data may need to be 'cleaned up' or 'optimized'. But as I said I'm not sure how it works. Also Win7 Detecting a 'new drive' and asked me to restart.
I have a 80gb X-25M G2. Not expecting any performance increase, but here is a benchmark run a few weeks ago on a fresh format, and the same benchmark performed just now after applying the new firmware.
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4...elssdsa2m0.png
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8705/ssdpost.png
I guess any performance difference could come down to variance between runs.
Also, I have the Intel Matrix Storage Manager installed. I remember reading earlier that TRIM would not work with this installed? Anyone got any more info on this?
Actually automatic Trim works only in Windows 7 with native Microsoft drivers.
I have the Matrix Storage Manager installed. But this is my MS driver on the drive. Do I have TRIM?
http://chuckbam.com/Post2/ssdCapture.PNG
Go to the device manager. Select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. If you see Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller then you are using the correct MS driver to enable auto TRIM.
If not you can uninstall the Intel controll drivers and when you reboot the standard MS drivers should install.
Yeah I am confused with this as well. I was using the Asus/Intel driver for the drive. Not sure if it is on auto/native TRIM? I put on the new driver and it seems to work better but I also installed the old ToolBox 1.1 and ran it. Number seem to be the same now when I first did a fresh W7 install 1 month ago now.
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...ks/SSDInfo.jpg
Just changed the driver to the standard Microsoft one, seems to be working fine so far.
Except now Windows thinks my SSD and Storage drives are removable and pesters me with the icon in the systray.
I have updated my Intel X25-M G2 (80 Gb) yesterday.
I was a little scared because the update application froze during the update and I had to reset the computer but in the end everything was ok and the drive was updated...
Here are some comparative benchs with ICH7R controller (a bit old, I know...), Microsoft drivers and a 3 months old installation of Windows 7 x64 with daily usage. The full system is described on my signature.
Before the firmware update:
http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/8180/antes2.png http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/2921/antesp.png
After the firmware update and TRIM manually executed with the Toolbox (just in case):
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/16/depois2.png http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2789/depois.png
A nice improvement! :)
If you installed Win7 in IDE mode, do you have to do a reinstall to get the AHCI drivers working?
I found some guide on how to get the AHCI drivers working after an install in IDE mode, but that was written for XP in 2007. Not to mention I get lots of BSOD's when switching to AHCI mode. http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=106575.0
Received yesterday. Flashed the firmware, and installed Win7.
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...dbenchmark.png
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...rystaldisk.png
With the x58/ i7 I don't have a ATA/ATAPI controller. So, I will be using the tool till Intel gets it together. I am using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology 9.5.0.1037. That is the Matrix Storage Manager with a new GUI.
http://chuckbam.com/i7_P6T-D/Drives/xmxCapture2PNG.PNG
http://chuckbam.com/i7_P6T-D/Drives/SA1Capture.PNG
http://cid-e878665d2e592e77.skydrive...9.5.0.1037.zip
Since installing the MS AHCI driver, Windows doesn't think my DVDRW can burn DVD's anymore? It recognizes it as a DVD-RW but burning software will say its not compatible. Any ideas?
I thought I was running in AHCI mode, but I am not sure anymore..
I have "SATA AHCI Mode" Enabled, but "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode "IDE". Am I running under IDE or AHCI?
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr90/cipsaz/ahci.png
No problem using the new f/w update via bootable CD on x58.
Could NOT get the f/w app to find the x25-mg2 on evga 680i for some unknown reason.
I flashed mine in AHCI mode with no dramas. The Intel documentation makes no mention of using IDE mode?
It is in the Readme.txt

* 1. REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THE FIRMWARE(FW) UPDATE TOOL
************************************************** **********
Intel strongly recommends that you backup your SSD before
changing or removing your drive password and attempting the
firmware update process.
These instructions are intended for experienced users. If you
need step by step instructions, please see the Intel SSD
SATA Firmware Update Guideline.
POWER
Please ensure if you are updating a mobile system that your
battery is charged up and your system is plugged into a wall
socket. Do not unplug your system during the firmware update
process as this could render your SSD inoperable.
DRIVE PASSWORD
Before removing Drive Passwords, please review the known issues
listed in the following website:
http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/x25m/
This tool will not run correctly if your Drive Password is set.
Please ensure that your Drive Password is turned off (in your
BIOS Settings) before beginning the firmware update process,
then after the firmware update has completed successfully,
please turn the drive password back on again.
BIOS STORAGE CONFIGURATION
This tool will only function correctly with the BIOS SATA ports
configured to "Legacy" / "Compatibility" mode, or "AHCI" mode.
Some BIOS configurations support SATA port modes such as "IRRT",
"RAID", and "Native + IDE" mode, which are not supported by this
utility.
TOOL MEDIA
This Intel SATA SSD Firmware Update Tool is designed to run on a
CD-R that has been loaded with the Intel SSD FW Update ISO
image.
NOTE: Burning an ISO image cannot be accomplished by simply
copying the ISO file to a CD-R.
To correctly burn an ISO image to a CD-R requires:
1) A read and writable (R/W) CD-ROM Drive
2) An image loading software package
Most R/W CD-ROM drives already come with software that can
manage to burn an ISO image correctly to a CD-R. If yours
does not, there are many software packages available over
the internet that can burn an ISO image to a CD-R. Some are
free, some can be purchased online. Please select one that
is best for you by searching on the internet for "How to
copy an ISO image."
************************************************** **********
* 2. Known Issues
************************************************** **********
1. "Drive not recognized" on Nvidia chipset based Macintosh systems
ISSUE: The firmware update tool may not recognize Intel 50nm SSDs with
8610 FW when used on some Nvidia chipset based systems
including the Nvidia based Mac systems.
WORKAROUND:
Remove the SSD from your system, and complete the update
using a non-Nividia based system. After a successful
firmware update, reinstall the drive into your Nvidia based
Apple system and reboot.
2. "Drive not recognized" in AHCI SATA mode
ISSUE: Some platform BIOS implementations of SATA port settings
are not compatible with the update program's process for
locating the SSD within the system in AHCI mode.
WORKAROUND:
For best compatibility, configure the BIOS SATA port mode to
The "Legacy" or "Compatibility" mode to perform the firmware upgrade
3. RAID Configurations
ISSUE: The SATA SSD Firmware Update Tool cannot execute a firmware
update when the SSDs are in a RAID configuration.
WORKAROUND:
Go into the BIOS and disable RAID mode, using "Legacy" or
"Compatibility" mode for the firmware update. If the system
is using IMSM, it is important that you do not disable RAID
within IMSM or other software configuration utility.
After configuring BIOS to "Legacy" or "Compatibility" mode,
reboot the system following the update instructions below.
Once all RAID drives have been updated and verified, enable
RAID in BIOS reboot to complete the process.
4. MSI K9A2 Motherboard
ISSUE: The SATA SSD Firmware Update Tool cannot detect SSDs on ports
3,4,5 & 6
. Only ports 1 & 2 are visible to the tool.
WORKAROUND:
Move your SSD to port 1 or 2 before running the update process
************************************************** **********
* 3. INSTRUCTIONS ON UPDATING THE FIRMWARE
************************************************** **********
1. Load the .ISO image onto a blank CD-R using a CD-ROM Burning
software of your choice. (See Intel SATA SSD Firmware
Update Guide)
2. Ensure the Intel SSD is attached to a SATA port in the system.
For best results, ensure the SATA port is a native control
port of your south bridge controller (generally
SATA ports 0 through 4). SATA ports attached to a 3rd party
SATA controller bridge chip or add-in SATA controller
expansion cards are not recommended for use when updating
the firmware. For more details, consult your system technical
documentation.
3. Insert the Intel SATA SSD Firmware Update CD into the system.
4. Ensure the CD-ROM drive is enabled as a bootable device in BIOS,
and the CD-ROM boot priority is ahead of the drive containing
the OS boot partition. For more details, consult your
system's technical documentation.
5. Complete a safe system shutdown and power off completely, count 10
seconds, then reboot the system. A restart or warm reset
(CTRL-ALT-DEL) is not adequate.
6. Power on your system and the update process begins.
- The tool will prompt you through the update process
for all the SSDs that qualify for the firmware update
in your system
- To verify that the firmware update is complete, power down per step 5
above with the CD still installed and let the
firmware update software scan for SSDs in your system
again. The scan should now display your SSD and the
firmware should now show the new firmware number for your
specific SSD.
- Once the firmware has been verified, remove the CD-ROM and
power down the system again per step 5.
If you have questions about any of these steps, please contact
Intel Customer Support for further assistance at the following
website: http://www.intel.com/go/ssdsupport/

How do I know if trim is enabled?
Below from left to right 2xacardR0, x25m-g2, mtron mobi all on evga 680i, w7.
Does the nvidia controller pass the trim command?
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/2553/25730956.jpg
^ There is no way of telling if trim is working (unless you benchmark to see if the drives performance has degraded).
Trim will be working automatically however if you are using the ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller driver that came with Win 7.
Win 7 optimisations that were supposed to have occurred automatically do not happen (Defrag etc). I don’t know if that is a Win 7 or Intel issue.
If you are not using the ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller driver, i.e. you are using Intel or Nvidia chips in ACHI mode trim will only work via the toolbox. (Which has been pulled because it deleted system restore points. No eta on a new version as of yet).
What exactly is the benefit of the Intel Matrix Storage Driver?
Are we giving up performance on our other drives by not using it in favour of the MS one for TRIM?
^ I’ve ran benchmarks with the native AHCI drivers, Intel Matrix Storage Drivers and Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and they all have around the same performance. The Rapid Storage drivers are currently beta, but they edged out in front on performance, but nothing of any significance.
It doesn’t really matter which drivers you are using if you use the Intel Toolbox to run trim once a day. You can do it manually, which takes a couple of seconds or you can schedule it to occur at a set time.
After updating my 160GB G2 to the 02HD firmware (thanks for the help; see post(s) above) I got a pretty nice performance boost!

Writes looking a little low there, buddy (except for 4k).
Yeah, the Seq and 512K writes should be in the 200's at least.
Even Corsair have released a TRIM firmware :(
So lets sign here people
Here's my X-25M G2 80GB in an Acer AS1410 notebook, SU2300, ICH9, AHCI, latest firmware. 4K seems slow. Is this a hardware limitation? I can put it in my desktop to test, but it would be as a data drive, not an OS drive, if that makes a difference.

here my x25m g2 80gb ssd , ahci on p6t se , pack date 10/17/09 , i can't seem to update to the newest firmware or find the managment tool . i score 7.8 in win 7 , i was wondering if mine is on par with where it should be or do i need more tweaks ?

finally got the firmware updated and trim enabled , wish i would have ran this app on a fresh install and after every app i added to see what slows it down the most . maybe i'll do a fresh install later .

1.2 Toolbox is now available.
Edit: Seems that 1.2 has to tip toe around system restore points, so the more restore points you have the longer it takes. Without restore points it is more or less instant but with lots of restore points it can take a long time.
Here's my 160 gig X25-M G2 with the latest firmware, flashed in IDE mode then switched to ACHI with fresh install of W7 Pro 64 bit, using Microsoft drivers....very happy with this drive!
I just reinstalled Windows 7 on a brand new x25 80GB with the latest firmware. The x25 is definetly faster than my Vertex 60, which I put in another computer. Not that big a difference but Windows loads faster and programs install slightly quicker compared to the Vertex FW1.41.
can i know how to update the firmware.,can i save the firmware on flashdrive & run it from there..?
I use this program to burn a disk.

Can someone with AMD 790FX or 750 with native Microsoft Windows 7 AHCI driver post some test results please. All i see is Intel controllers in here. If the results are slightly worse than the Intel ICH9 dont get shy and post results guys. Thanks ! Mine is coming soon and i will post results but i know at least 1 person has this running on a 790FX.
guys.,can i know how to enable TRIM under win 7.,if i want to update the formware.,can i update it on AHCI mode..tq..
if i have bootable flash drive.,can i update the firmware using it..?

Hey guys I got my disk. It came with 02HA. Tomorrow I will be installing it. What I'm wondering about is the reliability of this drive. Do any of you used it for more than a few months without any problems ? By problems I mean erasing itself after shutdown/sleep at least once since you had it ? I've come across one or two cases on Google where this happened so I just hope this is just an isolated issue...
Hey guys. i got it all installed. Went into the bios E-Sata Controller Mode was swtiched from IDE to AHCI. Than I installed winows 7 + drivers and kaspersky and than decided to test and here are the results:

Something is wrong in my opinion. I am also not sure if that AHCI driver is working. When i went back to my bios there was a RAID menu. I entered it and there was a submenu which was "ATA devices" IDE or AHCI. It was already on IDE so when i switched it to AHCI windows would not load and gives me an error 0x00000007B. I have done the MS solution to the error 0x000000007B for AHCI but when i went to the registry it was already set to 0 just like MS suggests so that did not solve it. This makes me think that AHCI is not working on my machine eventhough it installed its AHCI driver as seen in the Device manager. Also i dont have the "hot swap" icon at the bottom of my screen by the clock...
PS; I have fixed the problem guys. Just reinstalled Windows and everything is working normally now.

I updated my firmware to 02HD when the new update was released and AS Benchmark was R:169 W:72 Total:327.
Today I installed Toolbox 1.2 and ran Optimizer now it is R:198 W:103 Total:402 - that is a 23% increase !!
Scheduled to do weekly optimizer.
