Awesome, waitin for finished photo :p
Thanks for the comments all! It's truly appreciated!
Really good progress is being made on drilling/cutting situation of the bottom hull. So far the holes are lining up and I've got just a few more to go.
Pics forthcoming.
Pardon for the off topic:
Two free tickets just happen to fall on my lap so I shall be taking a break tonight to see the Machida fight live at the Staples Center! :)
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...vs__Shogun.jpg
Relevent pics and material hopefully before the weekend breaks.
I'm off! Traffic is gonna suck.
Can't wait, Cpt!
(Dang, we're in Southern Cal this weekend - I was planning on bringing my stuff by for some cutting, drilling, and photoing. Oh well, enjoy your evening out!)
Have fun at fight man. Looking forward to some more updates.
Very impressive photography work, it seems like 90% of the people here who do worklogs are like professional photographers :p
Hey, Shazza! How cool that you're hanging out in my neck of the woods. I hope you are having a great time here! I'll photograph your rigs any day. But in payment, I just want to push some of the control buttons on Lou's elaborate train set coolness one day. :D
Thanks, MT. I had fun... the main event, however, was disappointingly lackluster.
Thanks, ohms! I appreciate the feedback. I happen to fall in the 10% who isn't a professional photographer.
I agree that it was a bad decision. I thought the pre-fights were much more exciting. But I'm so glad I didn't pay for the tickets. :D
Here is the bottom panel of the hull which is also the top panel of the pedestal.
Prepped, masked, clamped, marked and ready for surgery:

Busted out the dremel to carefully mark the starter holes.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find a large enough collet for the Rotozip to fit Chuck the unibit. Hey. That rhymed! (Yes. I'm easily amused).
So I took a smaller unibit (Chuckie), drilled just one step short of 9/16th (Chuckie is shorter than his dad).
Then I took Chuck and did the last step to 9/16" freehand.
It's a pretty unorthodox way of lining up holes, but for somebody who doesn't trust his own freehand drilling abilities, it worked out better than I thought.
The less this kid drills freehand, the margin of error decreases exponentially.

The clamped wooden guide performing its duties well:

After the procedure and the bandages removed, I was pleased with the results:

I placed the end of a straight edge T against the lip of the bottom panel to see if the fittings lined up.
They lined up perfectly!
Sweet.

Deployed the fittings to check for clearance.

The O-ring will be placed on the chassis side after powedercoating. I just didin't want to place unnecessary wear on them.
I'm sharing this with you in case you didn't know.
Friends don't let friends use worn out O-rings:

As always, thanks for checking in!
Looks interesting. Can't wait to see more.
i want all those fittings o.o.... and i think this is starting to look great already
great tools - great results! stunning!
Awesome work cptn, those holes are just perfection
Want to see more! :D
Outstanding work Rick - nice job on dem holes!
On a side note, how did you like the UFC experience?
SPECTACULAR mate... I'm already saying that word and the build hasn't even kicked off yet!
Well done flint, thanks for the update, coming along nicely
YAY, Update. Great photos like i said earlier in the log. Really am loving this.
When it's time to relax one beer stands clear. I'm tempted to post a pic of me cat on your log. But since I'm allergic to him, I can't get close enough for a decent shot. Besides, it looks like you have enough - with more coming.
Thanks Caoder  I'll be sure to post my (mis)adventures along the way.
Thanks for all the encouraging words thus far aka_GK! Your sleeving in your log rocked my face off. Excuse me while I go look for my face now.
Thank you Winston! Love watching your adventures on your worklog!
Thanks so much, Charles!
The sweet thing was I discovered the tickets I was given were VIP only after we arrived.
We got escorted red-carpet style to a large suite, with big screens, free food and free drinks. It was pretty close to the live action as well.
The main event was disappointing but in hindsight, the experience and the action during the pre-fights more than made up for it.
I think the next time I'll be down to watch a Machida fight again would probably be to cure my insomnia.
Hey Ding! I'm crossing my fingers I dont want to disappoint the owner of The Incredible Hulk. I wouldn't like him when he's angry. :D
I shall, kgtiger and thanks for all your continued support
That's quite a compliment coming from you Bent. Your photography skills and HDR posts are crazy mad eye candy. Thanks for your generous feedback!
Vapor! I'm so glad you're liking my little dog and pony show.
You've made me a more informed consumer and probably saved me countless headaches from all your informational testing and reveiws.
If I could give a little something back to you after all you've indirectly given me, let that be my expression of thanks and appreciation!
Things have been hectic 'round these parts, but I intend to get something substantial up and done over this weekend.
So there but for the grace of mod, go I.

I managed to do a little fiddling with some tubing on the mobo. Looks decent enough for a shot, but still in the process of redoing:

...Have a Happy and Safe Halloween Everybody!!!
jajajajajja nice photos Capitan :D......It looks good and that photo of Sparrow is funny
glad to see the captain is still makin it happen.
cant wait to see more.
Hey bud,
You want to add cat photos to the build log, I don't mind. I did it for fun anyways, so I don't mind OT posts. ;)
(I do enough of them myself as it is. :D)
Photos look great. You crave that pumpkin? Happy Halloween to you too.
Can anybody tell me how do you all take pictures without a single dust on themmmmmmmmm
I freaking envy that
Excellent photo of your tubing on the mobo there flint.
I love the pumpkin, excellent work and very well done there mate, it's a nice personal touch, well done:up:
That pumpkin is a classic!
Happy Halloween to all the goblins hanging out here. Caught this pic of CptDreadFlint (although I think this is his normal look, not a Halloween Costume ;) )

Thanks for the comments all!
@mt Yes. Wife and photoshop helped find the negative space of my avatar. This help to figure out which part to carve and what to leave in.
@dro
I make use of three things.
1. Compressed air.
2. the notorious makeup applicator brush:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...0/IMG_3671.jpg
3.) The healing brush.
What's really cool is the long straw thingy on the can of compressed air can be used for several things. A straw for one. Also:
A stick to poke dead things
A coffee stirrer
A paper cup suspender
A balloon popper
TIM Applicator
a toothpick
pipe cleaner
a plant grow-straighter situation
if you're really creative... you can fold it up and make pelican oragami. :D
And if you have enough of them, you can glue them all together and build a raft to get off remote islands (my favorite use).
@shaz
That's my cheesy, hands-on-hips, stance. I asked those guys if they were gonna post it on the net. Liars!
But aye. I kinda do look like that year-round. :p:
Have a Happy and Safe Halloween, everybody!
Awesome stuff Rick!
Great job on that pumpkin. :)
Sounds like you had a good time at the fights - VIP treatment and all. Good stuff!
Happy Halloween me matey!
After the Halloween debauchery and the lingering sugar high induced by the over consumption of Kit Kats and candy corn,
I got around to swapping out the shining silver BP fittings off the motherboard for the contents of a package I finally received -
black BP fittings!
In keeping with the name of the build, the newly installed fittings looks to be a perfect fit to this crazy thing I call the Black Freighter.
Pardon this little back tracking, but I just wanted to share some pics I managed to take despite the army of little ghosts, monsters, and Disney characters knocking on my door and asking for candy.
Tubes will lead to the bottom panel of the hull:

Wait. My favorite pic would have to be on page 3 of this build log.
Yeah. I like that one a lot.
I can smell something taking shape. I'll carry my camera in case it happens without warning.
Cheers all and thanks for checking in!
Frickin A Beautiful PC :banana::banana::banana:
Very nice dude. I think this whole build log is my favorite pic. ;)
May i ask from where you got those sweet compressions anf for how much? ive spent time looking for them but i could only find barbs rather than compression fittings
Thanks
wow, those pics really hurts my eye ! darn beautiful :yepp:
keep it coming captain
@CptDreadFlint
Thanks for the tip! will try to make full use of the dust off
I'm liking where things are headed!
looks absolutely incredible cpt.
Beautiful!
Now, it's my turn to ask ... Adopt me????
speechless
Damn, the black tube with those black compressions are just amazing! Mooore, give us more :D
The black compressions are  .. definitely going to pick some up for my next build.
Also love the color of the blue and black tubing.. mind me asking what type of tubing that is?
Dam them fittings are smoking hot, May i ask, as i haven't seen it though the thread. Who makes that mighty fine looking Blue hose? May have to email said company :).
Some of the most amazing pics I've yet to see. The tubing+fittings look incredible.
Cheers, Charles  Hope you had an awesome Halloween!
Heyas Weevil! Yes, I must admit there does seem to be a Brown Chicken Brown Cow feeling to them. :yepp:
Thanks, MT! Truly appreciative of your support thoughout.
Hey Mas, Weevil had my back in my absence. He provided the correct url for you on his second post. More stores should carry them soon.
Thanks for your kind feedback, anubis! I dig your avatar.
Thanks, dro! Glad to help out.
Heyas Tox. Make the plunge to watercooling yet? :D
LOL. I buy shoes like you buy radiators. You think there's enough credit card limits in the world to be able to handle us?
Even in your silence, aka_GK, your continued support is very much appreciated!
Will do, Winston. I have a HUGE surprise coming up in the next few updates. We're talking MONSTROUS. I CANNOT wait to share.
Ok. I have nothing. But I'll think of something. Heh.
Don't mind at all, jpm. I am using Primochill Pro LRT 1/2” ID 3/4” OD for this build. Excellent quality and is less resistant to kinking compared to other tubing.
Heyas Bent. See above :) I noticed that there is a bit of difference in the shade of blue between sizes of the tubing. the 5/8" seems to be more purplish blue than the 1/2".
Maybe I'll take a pic showing the two later tonight.
Very much appreciate the kind feedback, Liderc!
Thanks for all the supportive comments all!
I intend to post shots of the innards of the case hopefully tonight.
Until then, "eat your cereal with a fork and do your homework in the dark".
Your photos are straight up amazing! I can't wait to see your vessel with all its riggings :)
top notch photos and tubing and... well just about everything! wow those fittings are absolutely amazing and mind-boggling beyond belief. I cannot wait to see the entire project completed...
You da c4ndym4n!!!
I'm feeling a little loopy tonight and have as much energy as a small citrus fruit on sedatives (whatever that means).
So please pardon my barely comprehendible writing.
I'm currently negotiating a few things in the hull - length of tubes, placement of res's, thickness of acrylic, type of screws, length of cables, amount of guacamole, etc.
all to see if its actually possible to turn the visual I have in my head and a few back-of-the-napkin chicken scratches into some kind of visually appealing reality.
ATM, my main concern is the routing of tubes. The challenge is to make it as short as possible while being aesthetically pleasing.
Not easy for me.
No.
Sir.
Ree.
Bob.
But (big but here), I'm having a blast and I'm learning a lot. Which was my intent of the build at the outset.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3761.jpg
After I've accomplished that feat, the whole thing is to be ripped down and reassembled after the powder coating situation.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3723.jpg
Just a few cuts here, and a few holes there, a threaded screw hole there, a big pillow and a soft bed here.
You could say there are holes in my plans but that sounds soup sandwich (not good).
Further plans include some kind of side panel design and maybe some wresting around with an airbrush ass kickery situation.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3729.jpg
I was inspired by a few members here to place tubing and components in a symmetrical fashion.
Kibbler, Virtual Rain, and quattro succeeded in accomplishing a symmetrical look in their respective builds while being completely different from each other.
This success inspired me to create a way to place components in a harmonious, balanced configuration.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3730.jpg
I had a facepalming moment when I realized I'm short a couple of black compressions. More are enroute and should be remedied soon after their arrival.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3727.jpg
After some rest, I'm hoping I will no longer string words in random order and post online. I'm hoping at least a third of the preceeding made some kind of sense.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Su...4/IMG_3773.jpg
I'm falling to the charms of my bed, but I wanted to add,
Thanks for all your feedback, folks. It's a tremendous boost and very much appreciated!
Thank you shoop. I hope to keep the interest as I further progress.
Thanks A-dawg!
Nils, you so rock hardcore man. Big thank you to your speedy deliveries.
5h!7. Now that song is stuck in my head.
Sweet zombie jesus that looks SWEET!
once again Cpt., im loving it. no i havent ventured into the world of watercooling yet but reading all of these logs is pushing me towards having my next build cooled by the liquid of life.
Sa-weeeeeet!
CptDreadFlint woud you like to mod my case??? :D:D:D:D lol lol
Nice work dude!!!! I like it very much
[wallpaper Hunting : Mode On] :rotf:
CDF now that you mention I'm definitely getting a Rainmaker vibe from your build, in a good way, and you know what for a Captain-Hook one-armed pirate mofo you know your way around a camera. Really very stunning mate. :)
OK ... I hesitate to post too many compliments, cause you might think I'm stalking you, but dannnnggggg ... this is looking yummy
It actually looks cool with the contrasting fittings.
You need to work faster, no sleep till your done. I want to see what this looks like completed. :p:
Keep up the good work Captain. :D
All looks amazing, sir captain. And, I actually like the silver compressions on the blue tubing, I thought it was intentional!
My only concern is.... where is the keel, the mast, the anchor? (other than the ship itself)
Dam!
I had a night off the PC to watch the idiot box and look what happens.
All the good stuff show up.
Sweet photo's there Flint, love what I have seen so far.
Keep it sailing along
Still looking great, Cap'n. You're getting pretty good with that camera. :)
I like your color scheme.
i cannot begin to express how much i love the symmetrical look. I have to say that its the most natural looking orientation. If you look in nature you'll see that everything is symmetrical, just look at the human face... its just so perfect when its symmetrical... i cant wait to see it all..
This build is stunning to say the least. Nice work as usual Rick
"Sweet Zombie Jesus" would have been a sweet Halloween costume.
Either that or an all-girl punk rock cover band. :D
Thanks for your input, ohms!
Thanks Tox . I'm certain you already know that the members here are supportive and helpful (in getting you poorer) :D
(oops. Did I type that out loud?)
Cheers Weev  Just out of curiosity - do vampires dress up for Halloween or do they go as themselves over there in SC?
Thank you very much, ShArKo! I have always dreamed of visiting Argentina!
Particularly Buenos Aires! :D
Heya anubus
Wouldn't it be cool if speaking thusly would actually work?

I had a question for you but I totally forgot what it was.
Hate when that happens.
Anyway, when I remember, I'll post.
Appreciate the feedback, Kibbs!
Karma, Shazz. Thought the exact same thing when I was posting on your builds, particularly your second MM.
Lately, your postings on the Black Pearl project is costing me a fortune.
I bought a Swiffy XT and a BP res - succumbing to the influence of your shopping list.
Hey MT...Yes, you're not the first person to mention the contrast gives it more of a visual bump... and I am reconsidering silver on the blue tubes.
I'll take pics of both to compare the two, and we can discuss it over a cup o' joe or two.
Thanks Wez... I know, huh? Some "freighter"...missing a mast and all.
That's like Christmas without snow.
A tape dispenser without tape.
A foot without a big toe.
...um...ok. I'm stopping now.
kgtiger, I TOTALLY heard your Aussie accent when reading your post. Thanks mate!
Thanks Xion
Regarding my camera skills: It's the lighting.
Regarding my color scheme: :horse:
But thanks just the same!
Totally know where you're coming from, A-dawg. And just to make sure, I took a peek at Megan Fox's face (for research).
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Sv...-fox-54179.jpg
Yep. Perfect. :fact:
Thank you, Bill. What has two thumbs and is a big fan of your work?
(You guessed it)
This guy.
i would do horrible, unspeakable things to Megan Fox...slightly unrelated to this thread i know
i was going to post pics but that would be off topic and i dont want to do that to Cpt. he has to stay focused to provide us with more pics of his build.
Well CptDreadFlint you can come to Argentina Bs.as any time :D There´s a very nice city to visit. Now here in Argentina is summer and you don´t have any idea how beautiful are the girls here :D few clothes and beautiful women :D:D:D
BTW----------> nice work lol lol lol
when it comes to megan fox everything is perfect... and are you sure you weren't looking at just her face?????:hrhr: a true man wouldn't be able to control his eyes from moving just a foot downwards...:ROTF:Quote:

I will be back to check on your progress.
Humm, damm! thats good- chocolate, I mean.
Sorry for the distraction folks. Gonna attempt to get back on track. :D
I'm still debating whether to use the EK X-Tops with the Res 140 or the XSPC Acrylic Res Tops.
I took some snapshots at various angles to help me make my decision. I also checked out Martin's Pump Top Comparison which includes both these pump and res tops (linky).
Here's my sich right now:
I had three life lines and I'm down to one.
I phoned a friend and time ran out before he could answer.
I did a 50/50 and I'm still left with these two.
My last life line is to ask the audience.
I would so much appreciate your feedback.
Should I make one of those polls?
The player roster:
Team XSPC:

Team EK:

Promotional pic for the contest. (Soon after a fight broke out between the two teams. It got pretty ugly.)
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Sv...0/IMG_3821.jpg
I admit, I am going primarily for looks here. But there is a slight tugging feeling I get after seeing the results of Martin's charts. (It feels kinda like when an oompa loompa is pulling on your tie asking where the restrooms are.)
There doesn't appear to be a substantial difference in performance, but there is a difference nonetheless.
But here are some shots to help me make my decision from a visual standpoint:

I would very much appreciate any feedback!
Should I use the EKs or the XSPCs?
Perhaps I could make one of those poll thingies. Gonna go try and figure that out...
EDIT: Yay. Poll! :D
EK for sure, they go much better with your current flow of this build.
This photo sealed it for me. EK
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/Sv...4/IMG_3814.jpg
HOLY CRAP, I like it!
I gotta go EK also. While normally I like the rectangular XSPC res tops in the MM case, your tubing is the highlight, and the EK cylinder seems to go better with that.
ek .. they're def more shiplike
i'll vote for EK captain
it looks great, and the most important thing, you can easily cleaned if it comes dirty cause by coolant or something
I LOVE those pump mounts on the rad, very excellent!
my god that's gorgeous...
+1 EK
You and Shazza need to come teach me how to take pictures. I have a hard time even keeping my finger out of the way.
Seriously though... gorgeous.
EK for teh win
I'm going to have to go with EK as well, but i have always felt the EK Res top would look better if you was to uses normal Acrylic DDC Tops then a Dplug / Male to make the join between the Cylinder res. In my opinion i think that would look better.
I'd vote the EK's also, maybe make them look like wood kegs of whiskey ; ) ARR :toast:
EK! God daym man.
Yep, i'd go EK also. Blends much nicer than the XSPC in this case. Outstanding build, i mean it!
I vote EK as well. Btw I just noticed your UN 120 pump mount is "backwards" (concave towards the rad core instead of convex, if that makes any sense). That gives me a really good idea for my setup assuming it won't interfere with my GTX core.
definitely go with the EK's. they look so much better.
amazing work Cpt.
The long, straight black and blue tubes inside contrast the case's sharp external lines and cut. So, in that regard, the EK's compliment the tubing.
If, you were trying to bring that contrast inside, the xspc tops fit the bill; the box within a box thing.
Just the way I see it....
You'll have the roughly the same (excel magic ;)) loop performance with either the EK or XSPC setup. We've reached the point in LC that a loop decision as important as pumps tops and reservoirs comes down to pure aesthetics.
I feel the biggest challenge with the XSPC res's is the angle the fittings are at, looks uncomfortable and un sea worthy.
As Skinnee has stated that performance will be roughly the same.
I would go with the EK for those reasons.
Voice on P.A.:
"Hello again, everybody. It's halftime here at XS stadium with the score at 28 - 7.
The EK Cylinders are out in front of the XSPC Square Pegs on an all out battle for the right to call the Freighter their home.
But don't count the Square Pegs out. I've seen some amazing come-from-behind performance from this team and I'm sure it'll be interesting down the home stretch.
The fat lady isn't singing yet so stay tuned everybody."
