I agree with this. But no matter what, these buyers don't care because that's there decision based on their needs.
Intel is not good at cutting prices - even at pricing, but let's see if there's an exception.

And some more techical news and a kind of roadmap for Postville->Postville Refresh->Taylorsville :)
http://www.hwbox.gr/showthread.php?t=5445
I may just replace my raptor in favor of one of these in the near future... I'd probably appreciate the difference between the 2 more than going from Core 2 to i7 so its money better spent in that respect.
I think I'll wait until October rolls around, then snap up a SSD for W7. I'll just have to resist until then .. which is hard to do.
I don't think I'm going to hold off any longer. As soon as I can find them back in stock at either Newegg or ZZF, I'm going to pul the trigger on an 80GB.
both 80 and 160 have been deactivated at newegg...
Not>>>found>>>anywhere>>> :(
it could be possible intel is forcing people to buy the old stock first before they give out much of the new stuff (its a 100% guess and i do not have any clue about anything)

***Public Service Announcement***
Intel has informed me of a bug in the X25-M G2 shipping firmware. This bug is specific to setting a hard drive password in your BIOS. If you have set a BIOS HDD password, then subsequently change or disable that password, the SSD may become inoperable. Intel is correcting the issue in firmware and will be posting a fix shortly. In summary:
* DO NOT set a BIOS HDD password on an X25-M G2.
* If you already have, DO NOT CHANGE OR DISABLE the BIOS HDD password.
It will be safe to do either of the above once the X25-M G2 is flashed to a newer firmware to be released by Intel shortly. Firmware, when available, can be reached by this not-yet-live link.
***End Public Service Announcement***
hahahah FAIL. That's pretty bad considering it is Intel.
Postville update to have onboard AES? Neat. :D
I had that happen to me on certain Jmicrap based SSDs, but on an Intel. Oh dear...
what is AES?
Who puts passwords on their HDDs the bios anyway? I bet very few will ever run into this problem.
:rofl::ROTF::rofl::ROTF::shocked:
Intel not good at pricing? HAHAHA. If their pricing is so bad, then why do they have something like 78% of the market for chips? I suggest you take a gander at Intel's more-than-stellar balance sheet. It isn't that Intel is bad at pricing, its that Intel outclasses its competitors to a large degree. And lets leave cutting prices to Wal-mart. If Intel cut its prices when it didn't have to, all their executives would be fired.
i think you misunderstand each other and actually say the same thing... your intel focussed though while hes consumer focussed ;)
intel is terrible at pricing for an end user perspective, they charge as much as they can
intel is great at pricing for an intel perspective, they charge as much as they can
intel tends to not cut prices cause they are the largest supplier and most of their customers dont like price cuts, as it hurts them if their inventory system isnt very efficient... it can translate into direct losses for them if they dont sell their stuff quickly and instead stockpile it in warehouses for a slow distribution system...
thats why all big players anounce price drops weeks ahead, to make sure people can clear their inventory. and their biggest customers hear about price drops even sooner and get warned in pricing roadmaps months ahead already...
i think hes right, intel wont drop the prices im affraid... at least not that soon... maybe for christmas, but probably not for now, not notably anyhow... but you never know, if everybody else really drops prices a lot like ocz and they dont see a lot of volume getting moved, they might cut their ssd pricing... mhhhh competition :D
manufacturers hate it, end users cant get enough of it :D
Any places that ship overseas where I can order one or two of these?
Intel recalls the the G2 X25-M's?

Theres a little bit of a problem with the firmware. If you have a password set in the BIOS you can potentially make the drive inoperable.
I knew that. Didn't know there is a recall going on. This is probably the reason for the drives disappearing from the retailers.
My G1 is on Ebay and G2 is coming Tuesday. All that might get me a better price for the G1.
EDIT: It is the reason: http://www.pugetsystems.com/blog/200...ew-intel-ssds/
Intel's second-generation X25-M solid-state drive
http://techreport.com/articles.x/17269
holy crap techreport is using a updated rig to test hdds...
finaly a ICH10R.
I wonder when these will be coming back in stock...
Mine is on it's way :)
when is this price drop I need a new notebook drive ASAP 2-3 mins to save a 20 megs photoshop brochure is killing me and 10+ mins to boot sucks.
WHEN ????
I wonder what are the "ultra-high-quality MP3s" mentioned in the review...
In any case - new drives definately look good. I might be opting for Vertex or other SSD if all of us with generation1 drives are left without TRIM. As far as I remember - TRIM have been promised with new firmware updates. Intel's representative said that it will only come when final version of Win7 sees the light. I can understand if we wont get native TRIM support, but I don't see how Intel cannot bring a tool such as OCZ's wiper to TRIM the drive.
IMO - bad move by Intel
Please, correct me if I am wrong on this one.
Any update on these? I know about the firmware problem but I figured it would be fixed by now!

X18-M/X25-M (34nm product) Revision History
Date Revision Description
10 August 2009 2CV102G9 This firmware revision is for X25-M 34nm products only (X18-M 34nm products do not require this firmware update) and fixes the following two issues:
1) System hangs with BIOS drive password enabled
2) System inoperable when BIOS drive password disabled or changed
For updates and complete information on known issues see:

Good to know the firmware is released. But still , the G2s aren't back on stores. I got a bad feeling about this.
Thanks for the update. It looks like it was probably just validated today (I'm sure they released it ASAP to avoid any more problems for users that have drives). Hopefully that means the previously manufacturered drives can be flashed and sent out in the next couple of days.
Chris
Is this firmware of any relevance to me if I have the previous Intel SSD 80GB bought May this year? Better safe than sorry... :p:
I was under the impression that Intel needs to deplete their G1 stocks first, before fully releasing the G2s.
But yes, so much on that impression:rolleyes:, coz who wouldn't want a new silver G2 anyway.
Edit
Some stores are lowering their G1 prices to below $250, might be the exit strategy.???
You need to read NeedMoMegaHutZ's quote again....

I would need and advice. I'm in stage of buying a SSD, and my favourites are Vertex 60gb, or Intel Intel X25-M G2. What would you buy? Intel or Vertex?
+1 intel
Newegg had these up saturday night for a short spell. i snuck in an order for a 160gb model.
Any news on the 80GB G2 model? When it's gonna be back in stock? Look like if i can't find one this week then I might have to pull the trigger on the 60GB Vertex then.
I'm sure it will be available any day now.
NZ has stock of the 160gb and 80gb G2
whats NZ?
oh, must be new zealand maybe? sorry!
hahah, yeah yeah~
Any new info on the E version of this drive instead of the M version?
Nothing.... yet ;)
The 80GB is in stock at eCost:
http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp...LAID=372595882
Should be available on the egg and ZZF soon. Hope I can get some Bing cashback with this. :D
Any UK or european shop selling it?
Nice!
New shipment huh? I saw on ToshibaDirect earlier, should be on the egg soon, gotto grab it while it's hot. :D
It's in stock @newegg but the price for 80GB is $499.00 (was $229.99)
160GB is $899.99 (was $449.99) ETA: 09/02/2009
Yup. I posted a picture in the thread in the storage forum.
Newegg can BITE ME. They pull this price-gouging crap all the time. In the past year, they have dropped to the LAST place I look for HW now.
I talked to their online thingy. No moving on price. I've been waiting a week to order my setup, but just waiting on this drive. At this point I may just wait a little longer to pick up the new ATI stuff. Which at the rate intel is supplying drives and newegg is pricing them, I might get the new 5870 first... lol
80GB $339 in stock @Amazon
160GB $499 ships within 2 to 4 weeks.
80GB

160GB

I think what this all really means is that there is a looming readiness on the part of enthusiasts and/or mainstream users to convert over to SSD And all the right factors have started to come into place: Win7 in a month, the best (actually, just the most "fast-and-troublesomefree") drive that represents what SSDs should be has become reasonably Affordable, and the frenzy is On. Kind of reminds me how my piranhas feed: nibble, nibble...wham wham ....gone.
This has to be one of the most Xtreme gouges I have ever come across :shakes:
This is in Canada
you guys think your getting gouged 2 weeks ago the price of the new IIntel G2 80 gb was $259 on Newegg Last Night it was $279 and was still back ordered
This morning I looked and they raised the price upto $522 canadian and thats for the 80 gig model
They can bite me
nope thats the new one heres the link iits the new package and model number. I,ve been waiting for these drives to come in as thats what i wanted for my new computer Now I have to wait or buy something else No way I,m paying that for 80 gigs
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...tel-_-20167016
other prices post at $279 in canada don,t have them in stock if they did I,d order 2. I got an email back today from a retailer that says if I order today I,ll get them in 4 weeks approx
thats just crazy,i was waiting to get one,but newegg can forget it.
LMAO $977.00 for the 160g and 300 - 500 for the 80g depending on G1 vs G2
Newegg will cost themselves alot of business on any highend buyer. My total rig below was bought via Newegg except the CPU but future sales won't be from egg due to this.
I won't loose this mental image of newegg price gouging the public for a fast buck on future sales for a long long time.
just remember the buyer set the prices not the seller I think a BOYCOT is in order.
on a productive note what websites are selling G2s near or at the retail rate of 220.00 ???
Whats the difference between..
SSDSA2MH080G2C1
SSDSA2MH080G2R5
Besides the $100 price difference on egg now and 2x+ the cost!
IIRC C1 is meant for OEMs and is standalone whereas R5 is the retail boxed version complete with adaptor.... :yepp:
edit: rephrased :D
Guys it's not gouging if somebody out there is buying the limited supply at those prices. Does it matter to you if it's unavailable because the price is too high or if it's out of stock (which it would be if prices were lower)? It's not like newegg is sitting on boxes full of these and charging these prices for kicks. Either way you're still not getting one :)
It is a free market and they do have the right to charge what they want to charge. It is only gouging if the product is a necessity i.e gasoline after a hurricane.
However, since it is a free market we, the customers, have the right to purchase from a friendlier vendor. I have made many thousands of dollars of purchases from Newegg over the years but this leaves a bad taste. I don't plan to boycott Newegg but I certainly will shop them more than in the past and ties will go to the competition.
This might be because other major retailers aren't selling the drives yet.
But one thing in my mind.... is how long will this price-gouging lasts.
This is a disappointment. Aside from my watercooling parts, I have pretty much everything I need for my new rig, with the exception of an SSD. I have been waiting for this drive, since the $220 price point seemed just right for such an awesome drive.
I really want to pull the trigger! Any thoughts on the Corsair Xtreme series SSD? You can get a 64gig at NewEgg.com for under $200 after MIR, plus you can get cash back from Bing, so it seems like a decent deal.
I guess I got lucky with this. I ordered mine from Newegg on 8/27 for $229. It was only in stock for like 40 minutes or so.
