Thats a great idea, we should have a thread with successful unlocking 550BE steppings and motheroards/BIOS used.

I know of three companies that give the Option.
They all have unlocked something successfully.
So far ASUS/Gigabyte have had the Highest clocks ive seen with 720/550..
The Third one BIostar successfull with 720/550. I believe the 550 was more stable than the 720's ive read about.
I almost thought there was a thread somewhere About Mobos. I cant find it.
ANyway it couldnt hurt to have one. I thinks thiers plenty of people that would like to know. Especially with these 550's
Hey vandiesel, try the BIOS dated from 1/13/09 again (The later BIOS has an option called Core Leveling, which locks the processor into single-core or dual-core only). Then double check your chipset settings for IDE/AHCI. It should be on Native IDE. Also with windows XP I believe there was a patch that later enables multi-core support, which is probably the one that is giving you issues.
I thought I would do some 3dmark06 @ 4ghz.
one 4870

4870 + 4850

I buy a 955 and get denied the magical 4Ghz mark by 100Mhz, you guys buy a $100 dual core and get there w/o issue. Argh
I am just plain bored LOL. I did some Crysis (original) bench marks both were with ATI's 8xAA and 16xAF I am going into win7 now.

Well, I am done. Gotta go help the in-laws.

Ive seen this talked about more than once
Download,,
HWmonitor
Everest Ultimate 1.52
Ive tested at variouse voltages and it is with in 1c on my system.
Ive learned to ignor the Four seperate Core readings and am uberly trained to see only 1 CPU temp now..
HWmonitor............Read TMPIN0 for Mobo temps.
..........................Read TMPIN1 for overall core temp(CPU).
..........................Read TMPIN2 ? not shure but may be secondary reading for CPU.
New Everest.........
This will show you CPU Temp under Overclocking(SENSOR).
also cores will read Zero , toward the Top youll see (CPU)under Motherboard..which reads correct.
Voltages are correct and i have measured with a DVOM @ W/B the Temps while locked or Unlocked. Stock volts and High volts the temps stay with in reason. Seems to be a variance of 1-2c.Not bad at all on this Mobo.

Oooooowahoahao...ouch....ooooooOwahahahot, somewhere a 550_Black Edition_ NinjaX4..learning to tame Voltage:rofl:
P.S. Charged , you haha,, you have the 550 syndrome now too huh:D
You know that's not a horrible idea actually. I would say the odds of one working to 4 cores is good at this point as I bet most of these are perfectly fine 955's disabled until they build up a defect stockpile. Then sell the other or keep it for an HTPC or give/sell to one of my friends that I know needs to upgrade.
Only issues would be:
1) I think it does but I am not sure if my Asus M3A79-T Deluxe will unlock one of these.
2) My 955 is lapped, so I am not sure how that would effect me trying to sell it.
Nice and with 4gigs.. 1.475v is just sweetness isnt it.:yepp:
Hondaguy, did you get the MA790FXT-UD5P?
My seconf 550 comes tomorrow or thursday. I also ordered me a new case......;)
Charge: Got the 790X instead....I'll go am3 later on this year
gotvoltage: F5 works as quad also
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/5...d4p550quad.png
That is a nice board. Giga-byte is doing a fine job. Nice too see 4cores, lets see how high she goes ;)
I checked and it seems my second 550 will be here tomorrow. My case comes today tho. My only concern with my new case is cable management. My PSU has a butt load of wires (Corsair TX750W). Heat diffinently should not be an issue. I go on vacation next week, and plan on seeing if the next chip is as fruitful.
Any of you guys able to run LArgeFFTs or Blend?
My 550 runs 3dMark fine (after I cleared the cache) small FFTs no problem... but large/Blend jsut locks it right up.
Actually thinking about selling my Foxconn and my 920 and grabbing a second 550 and that 790X board :)
Dang ,, i wish i wanst away from the House this week..
Im gone a few days and everyone is getn new hardware:ROTF:
I think i may get a DDR3 ,, UD5P for this 550 and then use the UD4P on the 720 to keep it unlocked..
Amazing these Mobos just work like a charm for that special 4xtask.:yepp:
Super stuff.this sure as hell beats my 720X4 cores by a mile...specially looking at what u got it for. I am getting me one of these gigabyte boards soon....time to get on the ddr3 bandwagon...BTW would I see a lot of difference in performance moving from 900 Mhz DDR 2 4-4-4-12 to say 1600 DDR3 at 7-7-7-21?? I currently am running a biostar 790GXB board and OCZ reapers which go all the way to 1066 at 6-6-6-24@2.1V. My max OC was 3.9 not stable and 3.6 stable 4 cores, 3.7 3dmark stable. Also would this board help with higher OC's?
I am on thr RH modded 1/13/09(it fixes the ht lock at 1600), native ide, tried numerous acc settings/core leveling. Anything other than xp sp1a with 4 cores results in hang as xp chase screen. With my cpu unlocked to 4 core and 3.7 speed I am almost 3 days stable with WCG, with no errors
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1...gstable.th.png
Well your CPUvcore may be fine,,
You will need +200 or more on the NBvid for stabilty even @ stock NB when going 3700mhz or higher. this is the same for UD4P/UD5P on DDR2/DDR3..Remeber the IMC is what makes things stable for Ram.. When your Clock above 3600mhz/3700MHZ you must give the IMC what it needs.
Usually takes 1.35/1.40 on the NBvid..this means +.200 = 1.3nbvid .
a lot of people are Unlocking cores and not bumping the NBvid up which is needed to keep things stable even if @ stock NB with High CPUclocks.
Have you tried doing all the updates for SP2 to SP3 and then running It.
Also your Problem may lie with a driver problem under SP2/Sp3... When i used Sp3 i had to also make shure all drivers were up to Date manually.
Matter of fact even a buggy Bios could cause XP to bork ,, Ive seen some Bioses be very buggy with I/O and VGA adapters when booting under XP.Even setting incorrect Volts after setting correct volts in Bios.
I would look for a Stable UNMODDED Biostar Bios.. the Newset Stock on e i thought unlocked fine.
Maybe go over to RebelsHaven and check out the GX threads for Biostar,, Lots of info.
http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi ,, PolyGon tweaks the Bioses like no other.
Ive switched to Vista_32 and Win7_32 and never looked back while using Phenom II .
Nice score Hondayguy...
on another note, you guys might have remembered I said I had another 550BE coming from newegg. Now I might be a lil slow sometimes, but does this look like a 550BE to you?
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/Skeleton/955BE-1.JPG
I also got my new case loaded Temps dropped for all my components, like 5- 12*C.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/Skeleton/DSC_0099.JPG
it's a 2 core 4 core !!!!!!!
So newegg accidentally sent you a 955??
get that chip installed. lets see what it is
Thanks, still tweaking this chip with this mobo
I called them and they said to keep it and are emailing me a promo code for some discount for the inconvience. LOL, I said no inconvience at all LOL. I am putting it now, it is going under water in my new case. Be back soon...
well I couldn't find my thermal paste, so no water. I used the stock fan and it is under the 250MM Skeleton fan on high. Still nice quick results. I have to go spend time with the wife.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/Skeleton/...955BE-test.JPG
Man no matter what I do I cannot get my system stable over 3.7GHz. I guess that's my limit on my system + Win 7 64-bit.
I am at work loading updates on a PC and thought I'd web-surf ;)
The Phenom II x2 550BE looks very atractive in this Review. Nice Job AMD!!!
im liking mine

LOLOLLLLLl A tRUE THREe In oNE cHIP.
OMG my 550 is fricken mocking my 720:rofl:. i DONT KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENDED .
The 720 CAN NOT RUN @4100+ so My 550 decided to take its idenity for three of its cores SO IT WOULDNT FEEL LEFT OUT.
Kinda like a Facepalm to 720.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...4128mhzFun.jpg
ok im tired now
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...lts_3800-1.jpg
Update ,,Pushing Since release day X2 550 @ 1.52volts @ 4ghz+ 24/7 with 1.45volts on the NB UD4P..
For the Money you cant go wrong with a X2 550
Ive been running High volts from day one and have no complaints..
Well just one and its with the Mobo not having Ram Drive strenths lol.
So if anyone want a uber chip to unlock the 550 has over a 60% unlock rate ,, that is huge and across numerouse Mobos..
AMD has always been fun to tweek and 550's are icing on the cake and then some.
Well Still going strong,, up'd the Ram to 1200mhz with mild 7-7-7-20 timing and Medium NB freqency.. Im going more for Max fine tuning Now and am Closing in on 4100mhz with 1200+ ram and 2500mhz NB..
Using 1.52volts @4068mhz and 2.3v on the DDR2 ..
On this Mobo the HT likes to be linked to HTT speed when pushing 1200mhz ram.
After trying for several weeks to pass 1175mhz using 800ram divider.. I noticed that the ram would not clock higher unless the HT Multi was 10x and the EPP option Disabled. While using the 1066 divider and EPP it would crash the Mobo once the HTT was set above 222 with the 1066divder. I kept lower the HT to 9X or 1800mhz thinking the HT was too high LOL it worked for the 800divider. But No It needed to stay @ 2000HT..So when the HTT raises to 225 it would become 2250mhz HT. Im so happy it wasnt the Ram but the Bios:yepp:
This is the Same for F5Abeta and F5 on the UD4P DDr2 Mobo.
SupI is is 1M 17.050's.....
was lazy to post screens of Pi and Everest lol.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...4068mhzDDR.jpg
Trust me ,this was not easy using Patriot ram..
You can not adjust drive strenths to help . HT must be set to 2000mhz .
I used 225htt ) for this ram to work ON the 1066 divider above 1175mhz with EPP disable in Bios.
Ill slowly keep going for more.. Even my Max @ 4160 was only with 1100mhz on the ram.. My goal is 4100mhz @ 1200
Nice cpu you have there! What voltage is that?
Mine wont unlock and is stable in prime at 3.8ghz but when im priming explorer fails instead :S
QUAD @ 4.160 BIOS F7 MA790X-UD4P................Gotta keep up to goTvoltage...lol

Check out the NB
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2046/biosf7nb2900.png
Your NB is ridiculous. But I wonder how high you can get it with DDR3.
Yeah hes at a good clock ATM ,, I think ill have to try the New F7 Bios wheni get a chance...
Im rebuilding my Saltwater Reef with a new tank and am busy the next week setting stuff up 24/7... Why i havnt been posting LOL.. Ive been busy @ 3ReeF looking up my build stuff...To bad my PC dint use a 1000gpH:ROTF: Pump too
Im also Saving up for a new Mobo Ram DDR3 and Maybe a 965 or better.. Im gonna buy Some goodies in September..
I had to use my Funds to replace a My old 50gallon tank for my Reef and soo i put another $650 into it for lighting and Filtration and another Tank...
That was my New System money ,,Oh well....It just gives me more time to Decide on Mobo and a Chip stepping:D
Few pics of What ive been Doing when not Here ,
,Build Stand and waiting for plumbing stuff;)

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...ntshots023.jpg
All i can Say is the X2 550 is one Uber Chip to play with for $99bucks on the Right Mobo:yepp:
P.S. HONDAGUY ,, your right on the Money Bro,, that Bios seems like it give more Clocking Headroom with Ram now...With DDR2 its best to use around 1100- 1150mhz to keep the IMC happy it seems.. I cant wait to try this 550on DDR3.
Also HONDA your link width is it at 8x ,, make shure you set Autonegotiate for the PCI-e and Link width 16X if your using one card..If using two Cards and 16x then 8x is normal.
Yea Im liking this bios also, its working well with my ram also
I have 2 Sapphire HD4850 on this mobo, so ya link is @ 8x
Good luck on that tank, looks sweet
