can't wait to how this board performs. if it does well i'll be sellin my NF7-S 2.0 board to a friend.
Amazing they are still in stock. Must be 6 or 7 left.
hehe, I had beta bios v1.3 ready to go but they released it before I had the chance to test it... :(
ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/flashmenu/an7_13.bin
Is that "completely cpuz and sandra stable" or "completely prime and memtest stable"? Good job either way but there is a world of difference between the 2.Quote:

I think the AN7 will be better than the NF7 just because it has higher vdimm options (it does doesn't it?) but I wouldn't expect a new board layout to produce greatly enhanced results on the fsb. The number 1 factor is the quality of the NB chip which is out of Abit's hands and will vary from chip to chip just like cpu's.
I ordered one and had it shipped over night.. Now lets just hope i get it on Sat.. If not i'll have to wait till mon or tues knowing FedX.
I'll have no prob moving my test rig (NF7-S v2.0) outa the way and slap on my nice water cooling on the AN7 with the newer unlocked Barton 2500+ and see whats up! :)
P.S. How can you check the stock on Newegg?
if you enter in 99 for the number of boards you want, if they have at least 99, your order will reflect it.Quote:

If not, it shows what they have left for you.
Make sure you update the cart with 0 afterwards so it doesn't mess some other peep out looking for it...
As of 2:46AM EST they have 2 in stock.
They had 10 at approx 9:47PM EST on Wednesday.
I caught it when they had NONE in stock then I reloaded the page and it said "YES" and then I checked the time right after my order.:D
Very smart.. i'll remember that next time.Quote:

Hehe Thank god i ordered it 5 hours ago!
Oh wait.. i ordered mine at exactly 9:53:57 PM so they got in more then 10.. Unless once i order it it doesnt process right away.
Well, Prime95 isn't stable no matter what speed I run  but folding is completely stable (and I hear it's a harder test on the system), and I have about a 4 day uptime right now (including several hours of gaming), no problems, so yes, I would consider it stable. ;)Quote:

I was speaking to someone who also had issues passing prime and he found that reinsalling the os solved the problem.
Meh, what do I care? My system is completely stable otherwise, and it's not like Prime95 actually does anything useful. ;)Quote:

You know if the original OC's any better? Have you recieved your board yet?
Look at the link I posted, you don't see it because they released the FlashMenu version only.
Full release may come later or maybe not as Abit is trying to get people to use FlashMenu exclusively.
No, I haven't got mine yet. It was supposed to be here yesterday but it didn't happened... :(
Im with you on that xDUCK if your computer performs the way you want it to without crashing in any of your games or application who cares if prime95 fails. :p:Quote:

Well
fellow AN-7everites, The Omelet is finally sold out!
Next shipment date, the 23rd.
We should see some results today!!!!! YEAH YEAH YEAH
from some of our buddies that ordered from places on Monday.
I have a feeling we'll need good DDR500 for this board.
Yes, the same ram for Intel systems that sucks for AMD.
Why? Cause this board might be able to do a FSB of 250 and better at 1:1. I don't think even with 3.20v Vdimm, stuff like KHX3500 will do 250 or better.
I have 2 x 256mb sticks of A-Data PC4000 just in case plus my 8 sticks of BH5 :slobber:
Remember that OPP maxed his v2.0 at 250 with HyperX PC3500 BH-5's so it's possible with good cooling.
I don't expect to reach 250 using an SLK-900 but I'll be happy with 230 or so... ;)
I got mine ordered from NewEgg.
I hit the site early last night and it was listed as out of stock ETA 11-23-03 so I did the auto-notify thing... and for some reason I felt I needed to back and LQQK.. and SURPRISE its in...and ORDERED!
Yeah,
But I want uber stable. I don't know how stable his ramma lamma
ding dong was at 250 1:1 though.
I want to be able to run the system for every day use.
But I'm jumping the gun here. I'd be pretty happy at 250 1:1
I don't know why in the world they couldn't really make this board shine by replaing the Vdd IC so they could offer at least 1.80-1.85 Vdd without the needs for mods.
This what I don't get. Abit knows we are using high Vdd's {though Many claim for really high OC's use LESS Vdd}
Why didn't they offer a Vdd up to 1.85? They know we want it.
The only reason I can think of is they feel that most people won't replace the NB cooling with something better and the board would burn up or freeze up all the time.
BUT, they could have put a great sink on the NB already.
I mean damn, we'd be willing to pay an extra $20 on the board for all that.
How come they don't listen to what we really, really want??
I caught my order when I reloaded the page and it went fromQuote:

"ETA..." to "Yes"
I was the very first order. I know it. I hit the Buy button 2 sec after it changed. I caught it the very sec they put it up.
Big deal :D

I was going to kick myself in the ass for of course when I dont check the major vendors I miss out.
Excaliberpc has them in stock. I'm on the bandwagon. Hesitating on the order button only because I'm not sure if it's worth the extra 10 for S&H on top of $5 for 2 day delivery.
Edit: Got the two day. When I accidentally added 2 to my cart I got the 3 red stars of doom that meant it wasnt in. Set it back to 1 and they went away. Guess I got the last one. :DvTook my like 10 minutes to order the stupid thing so I hope there system stays accurate while I was having early morning struggles. Results probably saturday.
:toast:
I don't see the AN7 there. Only the AI7Quote:

See the edit. They definitely had one and not two. I should be getting it. Im paranoid cuz it took me a while to get the order in. But thats just me.... I'm getting it. I certainly order the right thing but will surely be anxiously awaiting a tracking number or something.
You're right though, can't even search for an7 after my order.
Sorry if I cause any unnecessary excitement for someone looking for the board. They got them and sold out again almost under our noses.
Im gonna need NEW DDR for this board... any suggestions?
Ok, ok, what's the hub bub, bub? Well?? Who's got one?? C'mon start talkin! :D I might be getting a P4 board and mobo, but my back up is still AMD. i wanna know if it's worth the swap from my NF7-s 2.0 to the AN7.
I wanna know ups, downs and all arounds ;)
Hey clockedOut, see if you can get your hands on some BH-5's. I'm sure it'll smoke with it.
clocked out... I'd still be looking for quality PC3500 @ tight timings for this board. Mushkin Black, HyperX. The OCZ stuff with the BH-5.
Nebulous- I'm coming from a 1.2. I wouldnt care too much if I had a 2.0 but since I don't, I'll be sure to get a new batch SPP and MCP-T with the AN7. The higher vdim, and guru is icing on the cake. More precise vdd increments, though still a low 1.75 max, hell it's still higher. Plus smaller increments are sweet post vdd mod - Don't have to fiddle with the VR every time you want a little change. All in all though, not much over a vdim modded v2.0.
I'm kind of bored like the rest of you guys till our boards get here so check go out the cute girls here...and for some of you the cute guys :D ....don't worry it's NOT :banana::banana::banana:o

Tanx pete, good to know ;)
Checkin the linky now TT ;)
THANKS!! Thats kinda what I have been looking at... Im still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the 3700 Buffalo BH-5... @ $50 for 256mb stick ... now its not even listed at NewEgg.Quote:

Yeah... alot of them are cute... but male or female... you gotta go with one of the ones holding the puppy. It's a puppy! They might hurt it otherwise. ;)
Yeah, that was the best deal going anytime recently. I only picked up 2, wish I had bought more. Oh well...Quote:

guys, stop working. run home and look for your shipments! :)
we wanna see new stuff
Well, you won't be seeing mine soon. Excaliber guy (Andy) called said it was like $10 more, on top of the extra I was already paying for two day, for saturday deliveries. I thought that was only UPS but oh well. My mistake. I'll just go back to $5 regular shipping... or so I thought. This apparently was not understandable. Guy couldnt understand. After trying to explain it a couple of times then......
him - I have another call have to go...
loop 3 times:
me - well can I get the $5 shipping?...
him - we'll just leave it like it is. thats ok. Be there monday.
me- Thats not really ok for me. I dont want 2 day shipping anymore.
him - I'll try....
me - you going to call me back?
him - I'll try... *click*
Try?
After a few calls I worked it out but I will try and avoid the place. We have to start using our money as our stamp of approval. This just made me think about all those jobs leaving the states. So many tech support places etc. are filled with this BS. If the guy on the other end can't understand... "well if I can't have it on saturday without paying another $10, can I switch to regular shipping?"... vote with your dollar and dont deal with them in anymore. Of course, they'll do it somewhere else with a lower standard of living for cheaper. Take a stand. It was so irritating to hear him continually tell me "it's ok - leave it like it is - but no saturday"... um no it's not ok. If a thick accent presents itself as a barrier for communication, I'm patient and will ask for a repeat. But to be told a situation like mine in unaccented english, and numerous times, then follow with "I'm confused" is unacceptable.[/rant]
Anyways I probably should not say this as more xs'ers will go there... but you can now add up to 10 in the cart without the red stars of doom. At least you had to read my rant first.
Sorry to hear that texuspete2k2, and I agreee with you totally about the out sourcing of jobs to markets outside the US.
over at abit forums, the user stinknbreff already has the AN7 up and running -> click here!
Thanks for the link
I had problems in the past with Excalibur. If i'm gonna buy a board , I'll go to newegg. if they're out I'll wait until they get a new shipment. I would'nt buy so much as a screw from them after what i went thru. i know other ppl had great success, me i did'nt. I only do buisness with newegg and newegg only. i have bought from googlegear/zipzoomfly whatever the new name is. not a problem either.
1) Newegg
2) googlegear
That's it.
what was the situation nebulous?
Just got mine in. First impressions are:
Impressive packaging. It appears Abit is really proud of this board. :) Honestly, its like the manuals from when you bought a car. 2 IDE cables, 1 FDD, 2 SATA and a power converter are all included.
Huge caps, much larger Vdimm mosfets, Realtek ALC658 codec. Southbridge revision is A4. Well spaced mounting holes (lots of clearance), dual optical out controllers, 4 USB out back, Actual metal NB heatsink (Al).. etc...
This board feels significantly heavier than a NF7-S.
Will post back in awhile, chem midterm in 2 hours.
sweet can't wait for your results and opinion on the board. if you have a digi camera would you mind snapping a few pics for us. ThanksQuote:

Gotta agree with Nebulous on this one. And
I've ordered my share from eXcaliber (mainly CPU's).
They can be a biatch to deal with for RMA.
Their customer service has been good a couple times
tho when I've called in to change an order.
Patiently awaiting end-user results on the AN7.
Pops.

Heh, due to a scheduling error, the midterm is TAKEHOME. God I love university. :D
This means AN7 time. ;)
cool more playing time for you Hallowed
Northbridge reads:
639710.1 0326A1
Ultra 400
More to come. Btw, the pins on this newer heatsink are easier to remove than the older ones. Oh, and this board has a digital readout in the far corner.
Mine is schedualed to be here tuesday. Hopefully I'll get lucky and see it monday though.
I JUST paid 115$ for a nf7-s 2.0 not 3 weeks ago. And I AS3A'ed mosfet sinks on so no 85% RMA even. Might get a friend to buy it off me though (Not a real overclocker... though I am looking to at least get him a 2500+ at 200fsb with this machine we're building.)
Damn I've wasted so much money lately. Bought a 9600se figuring I'd take Halflife 2 code and resell the card... Damn thing can't even score HALF of what my 75$ ti4200 128meg can on 2001se. Bought TONS of ram trying to get an intel rig working right... a rig I later scrapped. Bought a zalman heatpipe gpu cooler which lowered my overclock so I put it back in the box and went back to stock cooling while I wait on an all copper 1u heatsink to mod. Bought tons of stuff for my garage. And a bunch of other stuff. My bank account is wheezing.
I should have mine tomorrow before 3 pm according to FedX.. Over night shipped from newegg.. Damn expensive too. Man i hope its all worth it in the end.. if not it goes back and i eat the shipping to and from.
L:DFjasl;dfkjs Mine is here
Taunting
With 2 sticks of pc3200 non a KHX next to it...
Taunting
And I won't have time to play with it until SUNDAY!!!
Come on guys what's the story?
Let's see some real results already!!!!!! :slobber: :slobber: :slobber:
That's why I passed up 2 vendors to wait for the Egg.Quote:

I HATE, yes HATE these small vendors. Many of them have a 30 day policy on boards. After 30 days talk to the manufacturer.
With the Egg, I have gotten RMA's on boards that were pretty old.
Every single time I call the Omelet, I get someone nice and that speaks in CLEAR ENGLISH. They don't hang up on your or put you on hold never to return.
OK now if you're buying a heatsink or a fan that's cool. But for a board, video card or ram, I'll stick with Newegg thank you very much.
come on!?!
how is it?
Grrrrr. My freaking 1u Sink wont be here until wendsday which means I will have a weeks wait to put better gpu cooling on my 9800. I will get half a day with my an7 though at least. So after everyone else has already posted their results I will be posting mine tuesday night or wendsday. Go me!
any reviews yet?
After some initial instability I'll put this thing through its paces.
It may be more to do with a beta SiI 3112 driver im running, but I'll see. uGuru works fine here as far as temp monitoring and etc.
Btw this board will yell at you if you dont have something plugged into the CPU fan header, and in fact this may have caused the initial stability problems.
At anyrate im going to reformat with a more solid SATA driver if my benchmark scores are worse than usual. That and this board probably needs a break-in day or two.
I also ordered AS5 with it, and let me tell you this ยงยงยงยง is amazing. 5c drop on my chip @ default clocks. :D
I got my package! Man after missing the FedX guy I called and they re-sent him back to the house! I called and complained that he went to the wrong address since they done that before to me last week.. After which i noticed the tag on the front door! Opps! My bad.. I quickly took the tag off and acted stupid on the phone like someone else must of took the tag off or something.. Anyways he came back within 5 mins of the initial phone call to FedX.
First impressions is that this thing should own! WOw the quallity is there and theres a ton of those tall caps everywhere! <-(whatever yall call them), all in the right arears around the memory with a few i think 4 mosfets! Yes those mosfets are like 2twice as tall... Much larger! They also managed to put a few fan headers on it as well unlike the NF7.. I think 4-5 totall.. Just going off of memory since its back in the box and i have something else to do real quick before i start to play with it.
First thing i noticed though is the much larger and heavier looking H/S on the NB. it even has springs on the clips to hold it down better with more pressure.. No big deal to me though since i'm gona slap on a NB water block but something others will like forsure.
I cant wait to try it out... THough i will take some pics of it before i slap the blocks on.
Oh one negitive i noticed right off the bat is the little chips that are still around the mounting holes for the CPU. :( That sucks! Almost looks like it will be more of a problem then the NF7 which already sucked for clearance around those holes.
I will pump up the volume on those voltages i asure you! Water cooling and all.. So you'll get a good indication of what the voltages are like.. But i dont have a hard drive for this test bed.. So i can only test it out with memtest86 runing from the floppy :(
Hopefully within an hour i'll get your pics up!
Ok thanks for the report.
It's like an small entree' so far. We'd like some meat and potatos
so let when know when you're serving dinner. :)
I'm gona try and post some pics ASAP.. Messing around with the board is gona be delayed a few since the wife wants me to go out shopping with her.  :(
I'll try holding the wife off so i can get those pics up.
Here ya go guys.. Sorry was in a hurry with all this and i didnt have time to post the pics here.. so the addy will have to do for now.
Thank god my wife got stuck on the phone with my sister that loves to talk! heheh..
Abit AN7
wow king.. those pics are amazing.. the board looks fine but the home theater! OOOMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGG
ya HAAAAADDD to let us see those LOL
oh yeah, the caps and mosfets on that AN7 are MMAASSSSIIIVVEEEE!!!! methinks it will have good voltage regulation.
hehe.. THANKS!
Yeah.. all pics were rushed so the camera (Sony V1) was set to auto. The flash was playin tricks when there was a mirror in the room. Also i was zoomed out on a few of the shots so it kinda made my living room look all skiny and stuff..hehe. If i would of took a step or 2 back and zoomed in a tad it would of looked my normal.
Also i added a few new components to the family like returning the Denon 2900 for a Denon 5900 DVD/DVI player and a Sony 300 Disc Jukebox.
Grand total after high end cables on everything is in the upper 10,000 range :slobber: yikes! Only half is payed off.
Now i get to finally install the new board.. Gona be awhile since i have to remove the blocks from the newer NF7-S and rehook her all back up.
I'll report back sometime tonight. hopfully with some good news!
Oh new system specs for now or what it will be soon:
AMD Barton 2500+ 0331 UNLOCKED! Was able to hit and run memtest86 for over 30 mins at 2700Mhz @ 2.1v on the NF7-S v2.0
Abit AN7 Unmoded for now ;)
ATI 9700 AIW PRO
2x 512MB Mushkin Black Level 2 BH-5 babies!
Danger Den Maze 4 1/2" barbs
D-Tek NB block <- Cant remember the model hehe, but its there best 1/2" barbs
Black ICE Extreme II rez w/4 120mm Y.S. Tech fans at 125CFM each on a dual custom shroud.
Hydor L30 300GPH Water Pump
Oh.. hehe An Antec 550 TruePower P/S.. Temp.. I have the True Control standing by in a custom case for her later on.
See ya soon!
Thanx for the pics eclypse.
np
Damnit! Look at what i had to notice before i went to install the board!
Damage
What do you think? They wouldnt of done this on purpose eh? I mean made a last min change and had to disconnect that trace?
Looks like a scratch..gash more like it.. Like it was done with a tool. i'd like to proceed with the install but am afraid that cut trace will burn up something like my graphics card since that trace connects from 2 caps around it.
Could'nt i fix this with some conductive pen? Either just fill it in or maybe cover it up with some nail polish and then connect the trace with the conductive pen? I think the scratch went down to the copper so if i connected the trace it would also connect it to the copper..
Let me know if one of ya's has any ideas. :(
Damnit.. Night is blown.
Don't you have an old video card to try it out on?
Yeah, multi layer board should be filled then use the conductive pen on her... Should be fine!
Ok workin on it now.Quote:

oh man that hurts.. i just ordered my AN7 a few hours ago.. im so exited!!!!
ill have her wed-day
Welp... Nothing but problems so far!
Damn thing dont wana do 230FSB for nothing.. No matter what mult or voltage. At 225 it will post and load memtest86 but i'll get a few errors in test 5.
I've tried the same with one stick and get the same results. DC SC dont matter! Differenet sticks dont matter!
Oh i forgot the kicker.. My 3rd DIMM slot took a crap.. System will not post wiht a stick in the 3rd slot now :( So no testing with DC anymore.
Either this board is f'ed up or it dont like my Mushkin Level 2 BH-5 stuff.
Man sounds as if you got yourself a bad one :( Hope that this isn't a typical AN7. What voltage are you running on the BH5's?
The farthest i've tried was 3.10 i believe.. The highest i could get her to run was 228FSB.. and that was with the 2nd DIMM slot.. The 1st DIMM slot was a biatch.. i dont think it even liked 225. The 3rd DIMM is still dead hehe.. I was hopeing it would come back but i guess not.
Man i hope that this isint the norm but i'm thinkin this thing needs a VDD mod for more juice to get over 230FSB. That 1.75v which was under volted around 1.72 isint gona cut it. ALl the rest of the voltages were right on.. which was great! They even have a seperate page for the voltage monitoring which showed all kinds of voltages that i never seen before like the NB chip voltage heh.
The board seems kickass.. the bios settings are top notch. For the first time you can control the RPM of your CPU fan at different degrees which was killer if i had a CPU H/S. For those that do should get a kick outa that.
My 5v line was over i believe at 5.02 and the 12v was also over. the 3.3+ was also over at 3.31v. That was a shock cause on my other NF7's i've had it was alway under around 3.25-3.20v That always alarmed me.. So My impression is that the voltages are dead on and stable... oh wait the CPU voltage was a tad under.. Like if ya selected 2.1 it would be 2.04 or something.. Not a huge big deal.
So in the end.. It would do 225FSB in SC since i couldnt run DC with the dead DIMM slot... I also ran the Barton at 2700Mhz at 2.09v and it seemed to run ok...
Oh theres some other temp monitor thing that i've never heard of besides the typical CPU and system temp.. i think it was TWP or something.. Whatever it was it was cookin at around 68-70C! Freaky hehe.
EDIT Hold on now! Make that a PWM.. It says in the manual that this device allows the system to monitor the temperture around the CPU power supplying circuit on the motherboard.. huh? Say again? ok..hehe.
So i guess i gota send this one back to newegg and wait it out for the replacement since there on backorder. :(
I seriously hope you all have better results then i.. If ya dont and yours sucks just as much then i'm stickin with the NF7-S and calling it a day... Though i'm sure i'll be tempted to sell of my 3 new 2500+ bartons and the NF7-S and use that cash to buy up an Athlon 64 system... hehe.
Same exact results here. You think the board will soar but for some unknown reason its stuck to 225-ish.
I think its BIOS related. However I can get more CPU clocks out, 2520 seems stable so far.
Everything else about the board kicks ass, its just the FSB issue. Maybe Abit can fix it, who knows.
methinks somethings wrong with it.
like a broken trace maybe ;)
hmm, ill see when i get my AN7 on wed. ill report here with how it performs compared to my 8rda+ rev1.1
Damn, that's a nice barton eclypse. If I could have gotten one like that I definitely woulda forked up the extra dough but I didn't want to gamble on getting a dud so I got 3 cheaper 1800 dl3tc's instead. Hope they do alright.
It's at newegg now for whoever was waiting for them to get it.
