0402 resistor so small and tiny one
lost and found
lost and found
lost
removed 3 resistor from graphic card the color is white but 1k its ok
I dont want to remember that day:)
how about EX58-UD3R?
PCI-E ?
yeah, this isn't one of those easy mods :p:
I was close to loose mine too, but found it some minutes later.
now the hard thing is to solder it back..
LOL hicookie was laughing at me on MSN while i was doing this
it looks hard but its actually a pretty easy mod
to remove it you need to have a tiny flat screw driver....just physically push it and it will pop off..........then place it on the new spot carefully, use the little screwdriver to hold it in place from the top .... just hold it on top while you put solder on one side.....when the solder grabs you can lift the little screwdiver and do the other side
easy as pie
and i am a total noob at soldiering :D
i won an ud4p at the gigabyte contest guess and win, so i'll test it:asd:
finnaly its done :)
it really is a terrible job to do this mod, but like you sad Dinos, eventually when you find out how to do it, its not that hard..
next up: Bclock testing :yepp:
My result after done the mod...CPU cooled by dry ice and 3 x HD4890 on CFX mode.

I think it will be higher with LN2, maybe 5 - 10 MHz more on BCLK
very nice benny :)
Nice work Benny
Great numbers Benny
I'm getting someone else to do the mod for me. I took one look at the size of those resistors and knew i'd butcher it :lol2: I'll have some W3540 & cascade action next week. can't wait
nice one we havent reach that high clocks
Anyone tested with other values of the resistor? Results?
The mod is working well here. At least now it looks like I can max out my W3540 on cascade. It sucked big time to be stuck on 222bclk. Now I don't think there's any need to buy a Classified :)
It very nearly did a 32m run at this clock. There should be more in it with some tweaking. Sub 7m 32m is very close :D

I have started to test EX58-Extreme with air cooling.
1. As I saw that someone found that 129MHz PCIe was the best on his board, I tried that. :p The board booted and was pretty stable. However, I backed down to 115MHz and atm I find that more stable. Before mod I was not able to boot above 103MHz PCIe.
2. I am still not able to go higher than ~222MHz BCLK.
Conclusion: I guess I have to improve my soldering skills? :p
did you use the new bios?
without the bios.. you won't pass that 222bclock wall.
If you already have, make sure you use 10x memory multiplier and 20x uncore multiplier. Those defenitly work best :)
yep, I use the new BIOS. I also have uncore set to 20x. :)
I don't think I can use 10x for memory as my RAMs max out... I use some old D9GTR.
i tried doing the mod, and now i get error 88 on the display.trust my luck. probably didnt do the mod good enough.anyone know whatt error 88 is.
from what hicookie told me it shouldnt really do anything if you stuff up the mod
88 under cold is cold bug but if on air.......you might be in trouble...usually thats a bad sign when it starts throwing that error :(
its on air ,soo :(
My Results with this mod and a UD4P, promising for sure! Haven't seemd to get much higher, but could just be that I have reached the max on these CPU's and or I need Sub Zero Cooling. I am on water and temps seemed fine, but I do see the frozen CPU's going much further.
Seems to me that higher PCIE Freq does not help after a certain point. I think maybe 104-110 is the nice range to be in. Higher did not help, at least for me anyway, and seemed like maybe 104-106 was the best range for my setup.
I did try 120 without any major improvements, but I still have yet to be able to put much time into it.

hello
id love it if someone could PM me the directions/beta bios for the UD5 on how to do this as well please :)
an stuck at the 222 bclk wall myself on the UD5
would really appreciate it :)
thank you loads in advance guys .
you wouldnt mind sharing it? :) im all eager to try new things :)
HiCookie, you mention the mod is un-needed for UD3R rev1.6 - I have rev1.0 so I need to do it? Desperate to get over 200BCLK stable, can only bench to 202 no matter multi/voltage combinations.
Memory will also not go over 1630 (D9JNL iirc) and needs stupid volts to get there at 8x compared to 10x multi (where it does 1875mhz c7 same voltage). However cant do over 197 stable with 10x mem multi. Uncore good to 3800+.
Sound like bios and mod will help or look elsewhere for what's causing the limit?
Thanks
The Mod is not needed for UD3R rev. 1.6, but the special BIOS may be? Or you can use SetFSB to raise PCIE if the BIOS will not allow you, which is all the special BIOS's do is allow PCIE to be set over 103
Running x58-extreme on Phase Change...would very much appreciate it,if someone could pm me the mod guide and where to get the bios for the mb I have. Stuck at the 222bclk wall.

I never want to solder a spec of sand again.
yesterday, i tried 1 UD5 and 1 DS4, i think i got a nice 975 for bclk
air cooling 238MHz stable on UD5, and 235MHz on DS4. even use same CPU
the NB margin also affects the BCLK.
nice CPU for sure man
cpu can have a big effect on BCLK and NB speed for sure
what bios are you guys using? i can run 4.8ghz on my classy but only 4.2ghz on this extreme58. any tips on the bios too?
hicookie/dinos can I have the UD5 bios plz??? Got the mod, one hand on the solder another on the usb stick.......
Guys, this mod IS in this thread.
Just search for it.
this mod works just great!

I think I need a D0 CPU now
920 D0....Managed to get 231bclk....should there be more in the tank ....guys?
Well I just completely f****d my board doing this.
Removed the resistor, went to re-solder in the slot below but could not get it to stick, now I have lost any metal to metal contact where the solder was for both the original spot and where it was meant to go. I got a hot glue gun and put it back in to place where it was originally. One PCI-e lane is dead and I can only boot with 1 stick of RAM. lol... that will teach me.
I wonder how far into the RMA process it will get before being rejected.
That's my plan, I cannot see it being too much to be honest.
I was looking at the resistor I was meant to pop and thinking damn that's small... I guess me having the shakes doesn't help much either.
so you guys really don't like the classified huh....?
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3...erpi920744.jpg
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3227/superpi8313.jpg
I don't like the Classified's price, that's for sure... most boards seem to require a hard mod and are right on the Classies heels now, at almost half the price... for benching I would buy a classified, for daily use absolutely not...
i had a gigabyte first, but thought the classified was suppose to be better, so i sold my giga and got a classy....shoot, my giga was like 320 bucks when i bought it...what is considered cheap??lol
220 euro's instead of 400 ? Let's focus on improving the giga's here, classie owners got their own thread(s)...
Why buy classified board when you can mod a much cheaper gigabyte motherboard and get allmost the same speed..
A X58 UD4P motherboard is allmost half the of a classified
pm send for f9x for x58-ud5
thanks
Very nice clocking! Is gigabyte going to release 1.6 revisions of the other x58 boards as well, like they did with their EX58-UD3R? In this revision the pci-e clocking was fixed, allowing bclk above 222mhz, right? I sure do hope so, I'm looking for a x58 mobo atm, and these gigabyte boards sure do look tempting if they manage to fix bclk clocking above 222mhz ;)
I wouldn't really mind doing the mod myself, but I can't afford to lose the warranty :(
i'm still using the F8x bios (email and pm sent Hicooke :) ) and this is where im at :
http://www.ollyk.com/236.jpg
I am about max on this board I think.
Just need 1 more on that multi heh :)
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/7...ipboard01u.png
booj your killing it on that board man, keep that :banana::banana::banana: up ;)
Great work!
Kan anyone tell me what ohm is on those resistors, if one has lost them and need to find a couple off new ones?
The Resistor is about 1K ohm (that's what i measured on EX58 Extreme)
did you measured it when it was of the mobo or when it was on the mobo?
I measured it when it was out of the MB.
Measurment when it is soldered will not tell the Correct Value .
Thats wy i asked... :)
Seriously looking at this board - can Hicookie or Dinos shed some light on the possibility of revised versions of the UD4P or UD5 being released that don't require a hardmod, similar to the UD3R v1.6? Willing to break out the soldering iron, but if I don't have to, then all the better.
I am stuck at 233.9 MHz, once I go into 234MHz the mouse slows (glitchy)....then the screen goes a little pixel'y , followed by lock up. Temps are fine...PCI-e at 129MHz.
Need some help on this....hate to ask. But I can't find any mention on what to adjust to perhaps push through it.
Are you using water cooling? I get the exact same issue with my Asus P6T board but I am only using water cooling. From what I have read, those posting higher BCLK frequency are using liquid nitrogen or phase change.
Hopefully when I get my board back I might be able to give this another attempt, maybe just using a heat gun to stick some wires to the right spot with the resistor soldered to the end. I miss my gigabyte board and I will have a phase change unit to play with shorty as well.
Any tips for the UD4P? i'm having issue to get a 965 (ES C0) at 4GHz with a Bclk of 200Mhz :(
Giga X58 Extreme running phase, at the 233.9 ...temp is -25C....starting to think to get the last few MHz out...might have to go with a Classified
Temp & Humidity is getting high in the house these days....we have no AC. Might go on air till fall :shakes:
I don't know if it is the ram or the video causing the issue at 234+. Maybe NB.
Where is the info for the mod at? I have looked all through this thread and did not see it?
email hicookie for info
I think putting a VR in place of the resistor is the way to go but i've not had time to do anything yet...
hmm this will test my memory. The board has the pcie mod w/ F8x bios & cascade cooled
bios set
1.6 vcore, 1.46 vtt, 1.3 ioh, 112mhz pcie
2:8 ram, loosened timings & extra vdimm for headroom. 16x uncore.. if there's more I forget :p:
booted at 229bclk & used setfsb up from there
Is anyone hitting these high (220+) Bclks on air with any regularity, or is the usefulness of the mod mostly reserved for the subzero folks?
Booj NB air cooled or other(water, di, LN2)? CPU PLL voltage? Thanks.
It's all pulled apart now so I can't give exact settings. Cpu pll would have been auto or a notch above. The nb was stock air cooled :)
i've tried 231bclk/121pcie boot on P55 with 750es :D
how are you guys running high pci-e freq? i tryed 106mhz and it wouldn't boot, i'm also using bios f9d and it has a huge hdd bug, i get 1MB/s transfer speed from my hdd to my pendrive and it takes like 2 minutes to boot.
They hard mod the mobo
Some Dice results, think I maxed my board out as I can only get to 239 with 3 CPU's and any CPU Multi. Either way, Gigabyte's rock!!! Can't wait for the board revisions.

Lsdmeasap nice result. Congratulation!
Lsdmeasap - maybe I've missed it, but has there been actual confirmation of a board revision on the current range of GB boards, or are you talking about the EX58A boards that are due out sometime? Very curious to know if a minor HW revision to the current line may remove the need for a hardmod. I hear the UD3R already has this change in a current revision?
Sorry, friends, been busy i will host all latest x58 BIOS including improve some memory performance and B2B Cas delay.

Yes, the X58 boards will receive a refresh when the P55 boards are released. They plan to release them all at once so that the new features like "Smart 6" all get released at once.
Hard Mod will not be needed on the revised boards, and yes the UD3R rev 1.6 already has the modification made.
hicookie bios F8i ex58etreme better what F8x? Or F8i official Bios and he is not intended for hich bclk? Thank you )
Dear all, i will host new BIOS tomorrow
cuz since intel didn't want to fix their microcode
those new betas i host are with new microcode but lock
D0 CPU ratios, i i will make new betas with old microcode
:shakes: already told them on Apirl....seems like intel don't want
to fix that.
hicookie
D0 CPU's only have 8 and 10 Memory multipliers if you use the BIOS's with the broken microcode in them, thus also making the uncore ratio's available incorrect. I believe this also may apply to the CPU Multi as well like Hicookie said, I forgot as I have not flashed with a broken one for a while.
Main thing is you want to wait, unless you have C0 CPU, even then you should wait as well
only the 6x and 8x memory multipliers are available with the new bioses.
its not possible to run 10x... thats were the problem is when you want to overclock..
im back to F9X :)
still the best bios for UD4P
Thanks for the info. Any idea on release timeframe? I heard they had been delayed somewhat due to the new SATA 6Gbps controllers, but didn't know how long that was going to take. I'm picking up a current UD5 in the next few days, but if the revised boards are inbound soon-ish, I may hold off a bit.
updating new BIOS with old microcode, yup if intel guys looking this thread
please fix ur microcode, all manufactures used same new microcode

Just flashed F9 bios (UD4P), got it from GB directly haven't tested it, do they have big changes? what are the improvements?
I do believe they will be here VERY Soon, set to be released with P55 of course. I think that would be the end of this month/beginning of next month. At least that is what I have seen tossed around
HiCookie is the one to tell us about that, but maybe he is not allowed to say?
Thanks HiCookie!
Well crap.
I've got a UD5 showing up today via UPS. I may have to refuse delivery and wait it out for the refresh. I normally do not fall prey to waiting for the "latest and greatest" (b/c then you never buy anything), but in this case I may have to make an exception as the EX58A baords look like a very solid upgrade.
As soon as I find a decent place to bench I am gonna give you some good numbers HiCookie.. both Intel and AMD ones ;)
