Nah, I'm good on the ganged/unganged. I'm going to try your settings now.

Ok, so I got it working, and here are my results on my GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
I set the voltages, save/exit soft restart, set clocks except northbridge, everything was fine and repeated the save/exit.
However, when I set the northbridge to anything above 2200 it got mad and I ended up having to clear cmos and start over, so I did some investigating.
Found out that on my board, as long as you don't do a cold/hard boot with the northbridge over 2200 Mhz, I could continue to save/exit with a soft boot and increment the NB 200 Mhz at a time, until I reached 2800.
Computer ran fine until a cold boot.
So for some reason, it seems like it has a problem ramping up the voltage and clocks to 2800 on the northbridge from a cold boot. For now I left the NB at 2200, with the voltage at +250.
Any thoughts?
Got that exact same issue with mine, just did my first cold boot...
Sad thing is tho, the higher your NB, the more you feel the performance gain.
2200Mhz should'nt realy need any added voltage :)
What do you guys use for temp monitoring, I need something that can check cpu, NB, SB and Cpu-NB temps and voltages...?
I aws thinking about the ASUS deluxe but now this board got my attention....I am keeping an eye on this thread.
HI everybody, I have just recieved the same board yesterday and I love it so far. This is my first AMD and OC rig, so I might be doing a lot of things wrong. I have been trying to OC since last night and I have finally achieved some results this morning. My main isue has been with the memory, I have pair of Patriot Vipor which are suppose to be DDR31600. but my MB didnt recognize the memory, so I had to set the timings manually. But even after setting the timings it has not been real stable. I belive I could achieve more If I can increase my core clock and hold my memory in good timing. I have few questions to you all,
1) you guys mentioned the Cold boot up, I was wondering is it bad for the bios to do cold boot up? because when my system crashes, it would freeze up, and cold boot is the only way I can get out of it.
2) Second is why does my system crashes when I turn on two different utilty at the same time, usually this happens when I turn on Everest and Cpu-Z together? or Amdoverdrive.
3) DO you guys think shall I RMA my memory and get a set which has a compatiable timing with the board? or may be a new bios would fix it?
This is my OC results for today, these setting have been somewhat stable today, I hope I can get better results and benchies. Any recommandations would be appriciated. (My memory timings are 9 9 9 24 and it says it is 1.8v on the pack, I dont know how to get stability timings out of them)

MSI is sending me his board to play with. Hopefully I can work with gigabyte on this and work out some of the issues you guys are having........
I personally like the layout on this better and If I can help get the bios up to snuff this is the board I will end up with for ddr3. Just give me a little time, got a lot of stuff on my plate atm....
Nice to read this from you CHEW. I am really considering this board over the Asus but cold boot is something VERY annoying. I remember experiencing something like that back in the days I was running BH5 memory at extreme voltage and my dfi nf3 wouldnt be able to boot. Had to get an OZC booster which fixed the issue but caused a lot more new ones.
Needless to say, cold boot is deal breaker for me. :(
I am thinking about this board and a 945 when it hits.
I am pretty satisfied with what I have though and am not sure I'd get much in a move to DDR3.
Can anyone who has this motherboard please do me a favour and tell me how hot the heatsinks on the PWM and SB is, Mine is really hot to the touch and I dont know if that's any good..?
I have a question in addition to the questions that I asked earliear. How important is it to have the memory on right timings? if I dont worry about the timings on the memory then I can hit very good results. how much of difference would I see with right timings compared to auto timings?
This is the memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220371
I give 1.75v or 1.8v, and I would change the timings and it would run on 1600 mhz. But when I change the clock it seems to get unstable. the auto timings are around (I believe) 7 11 11 21
So, what you're saying is, that if you keep the cpu at stock and set the memory to 1600Mhz with the rated timings 9-9-9-24 @ 1.8V everything runs fine, but if you raise the CPU multi it gets unstable..?
I just reilized somthing, I dont have to change the timings just chnage the memory multi and and it runs at 1600.
What happens is when I change referance clock higher the memory wouldtnt stay stable and clock down. This is reasonable.
So if I keep the volts and timings on Auto how much can I overclock, right now my cpu is at 3550mhz and my memory is 1666. I havent done any stress test yet. So if this thing can do auto timings and auto voltage, do I still have to change everything?
Dont overclock your system by raising the bus speed, just raise the cpu multi, set your memory to the rated speed and timings
Ok, It seems to be stable right now and I can run referance clock at 208 stable. The memory is runing at 1666 and the cpu tems are hi 20s on idle and high 30s on load. I havent seen the temps to go over 40C yet. If it goes stable without me to changing the volts and timings, It would be AWESOME.
There are suppose to be 2 BIOS oin this board, how do you know if you massed one up? I did alot of cold boots yesterday?
Keenan I think you asked this question before but I am also looking for a good temp monitorin software, does anybody know a good one that would stay on the quicklunch? I used Everest for a while and I dont like it. I am on
vistax64
I have the lastest bios (F4D), anyone having trouble setting NB higher then stock on this board? CPU is x3 720. Ram is Kingston 1800mhz
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/x3_720/screen.JPG
Why dont you just up it in the bios...?
To overclock the NB you need to up the NB VID, not NB Core
By putting my NB VID to 1.45V I was able to get 2800Mhz
I tried that as well. I even tried just 2200mhz I am running 1600mhz RAM tho, I might need to run auto on ram and try it, See if it works. Then i will up the RAM a lil at a time to see where it stops. 3dmark06 loves this board and CPU...of course my 2 4850's had something to do with it. This system just spanked my Phenom II 940 at the same settings, I had higher HT and NB tho 2600 both.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=10179089
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/x3_720/x3...4850's.JPG
Remember, you need to set your voltage first, save and exit, then go back in and set your NB Multiplier...
Try adding +250 to the Cpu-Nb Vid Control, save and exit, then go back and set your NB to 2800Mhz
Guys, why 3dMark06 would give me a Direct 3d Vortex failed error ? not enough power may be?
What's your current settings..?
720 BE @ 3.5
NB @ 2200
Multi 17.5
4 gb Patriot Vipor @ 1600
evrything else is auto
My GPU is Asus x2 trifan
my cooling is Xigmatec hd
my PSU is 650 W antec
Add +0.1V to CPU Vid Control
nice!!
Has anybody figured out how to run referance clock higher yet? I just cant increase the ref clock and maintain the stability.
I have been hitting a problem with my cpu, it looks like the 3rd core is failing on torture prime95 test, while the other two core are stable.
my current setting are
* Multiplier = 18.5
* Bus Speed = 200
* Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
* Memory multi and timings =x8 on auto timings runing at 1600Mhz(Patriot vipor ddr3 1600)
* NB Frequency = 2.2Ghz
* HT Frequency = 2.6Ghz
Voltages
* Memory Voltage=1.7V ( memory is rated for 1.8)
* NB voltage control = +0.1V
* SB/HT volatge control = +0.1V
* NB/PCIe/PLL voltage control = +0.1V
* DDR VTT voltage control = Normal
* CPU VID control = +0.125V
* CPU voltage control = +0.175V . (I am on air with xigmatek hdt, and my core temps are below 43C under torture test)
Any inputs would be appriciated. I cant wait to see Chew* s review on this board.
I have increased the Cpu voltage to 1.525 and it seems to perform the torture test all the way. Please let me know if you think all these Voltages are safe for this chip and board.
Just wanted to say I am joining the club on Friday ( I hope as I just ordered).
This is my first Gigabyte since the one for my Tbird 1.4Ghz :-)
Congrats! it is a very nice board. I love the lay out and quality of it. Hopefulluy with some bios update it would get a lot better performance. Dont forget, you cant get in bios with usb keyboard, you need to update the bios. There is a bios update software included in the CD, I used that and worked great. Let us know how it performs for you!
Everything is on its way! If I am luck I could get them on Thursday since regular 3day shipping from newegg only takes two days to my place!
I have a trusty PS2 keyboard just for ocassions like this. :-)
Msi max's board is on the way to me, not sure how long I will have it in my posession so I will try to cram in as muct info,reports and testing as I can in a short amount of time....
M4a79 deluxe will be on hold until after as that board will be here a while....not enough hours in the day and days in the week....I will probably not put it under cold....and I probably will not push it as hard as I push my own stuff just out of respect, hope you guys can understand that.....
give it hell man, cause if the new bios works im sure to do it:rofl:
For you guys running Windows 7 x64...are you just using Vista 64 drivers?
Yes mate, all drivers loaded are Vista 64
Can someone please post a screenshot of the BIOS screen showing all the voltages options ( all the way down) for a 720 please?
my best oc 3 cores
http://www.shrani.si/f/1c/NN/TzGFuVq/oc3.jpg
also litle oc with unlocked 4th core, perfectly stable
http://www.shrani.si/f/3Z/FI/1aeQHvT9/jedra.jpg
also testing 3dmark vantage for difference i also pushed it to 3,4Ghz with 4 cores
http://www.shrani.si/f/3x/cr/3ijHloGj/capture.jpg
i7 is runing dual channel 1333 cl7
hope u like it :)
Cool stuff....I got mine 3.6 OCCT/prime stable with 1.39v with 4 cores but I cant seem to get anything else with either 3 or 4 cores...its like I hit a wall.
Mine taking a screenie of your bios showing the voltage and what stock voltage you 720 shows at bios?
Thanks
1.325 is the correct stock volts for the 720 BE regardless of what bios sets it at. Most likely a bug if set to auto, it's quite possible your software monitor is reporting incorectly or the bios incorrectly sets voltage......
It appears to be a problem with a few boards atm.
Got it. Yeah when I run stock cpu-z, bios and occt all show 1.25 and I can go to 3.2 or so at that.
My main issue right now is that 3.6 wall I am hitting. :(
my cpu

I have just RMA my board because of the random freeze ups that I was having. Hopefully the new one wouldnt have the same problem.
Yaxo11, your chip is the only one I have seen that doesnt have 0904 batch but overclocks well. I also noticed something, your bankcyle timing is 33, shouldnt it be 8+21=29 ?
it is set to auto, i should change it, tnx
I returned my mobo because of the cold start issue when you overclock NB.
Sweet I finally got it 3.7GHZ prime stable with 4 cores at CPU NV .200 and CPU Voltage .150.:up:
excellent
I didn't get another one.
I did try F3b to unlock a core of 720, but I didn't try NB overclocking. It was the 2nd core that was locked up, and there was a reason why it was locked up.
So, F3b took care of the cold boot issue?:shocked:
I am using F3B bioss,F3 is totaly unusable for me, is F4D any better
Have found F4G to be the best bios for my system if that helps!
With F4G u cant unlock four core but my system seems better memory wise! Bios Here! http://www.mediafire.com/file/2ozvyz...M79XTUD5AT.rar
F4g is "the best" bios for this board to date......newer bios's are being patched so that you can not unlock the 4th core......basically if you want support lose the extra core......if you want the extra core than you will have to deal with a premature bios......
Thank's Bro20000/chew* :up:
Regarding OC the NB... You guys only need to raise the NB VID or another BIOS setting else?!
The key to NB clocking is a happy balance between ram speed and timings and nb speed and ddr volts/nb vid volts.......If you push you ram hard your likely to lose a little NB speed......If you push your NB hard your likely to lose a little ram speed/timing latency.......find the happy balance and your cpu will likely clock higher as well. ;)
I wonder how hard would it be for someone to "fix" the beta bios to enable the fourth core. Right now at 3.7 stable with 4 cores I just dont feel like letting go but I wouldnt mind the extra performance of a newer bios. :-)
I was thinking to same thing how hard would it be to fix the bios to enable 4th core! It would be a killer bios if so cos F4g is really good with x3 chips!
I dabble with bios's but its a hack job at best, I'm better at hex editing vga bioses.....motherboard bioses....there's alot more that can go wrong. I leave that to the pros.
I am sure there is some bios expert around like there used to be for my older DFI boards and the likes...finger's crossed. :-)
Any testing with high NB speed? I have this board at home, but never start it cause lack of cpu...Waiting 955...

almost same numbers for memory, strange or is this normal
Hi, got my 720BE down to +0.025v @ 3.5Ghz. Tried the 2800NB (HT auto is 2600) but only gained 300 in 3D'06. Mild OC on 4870 gains me 1000 points (over 15K)
EasyTune (just used for monitoring) CPU temp matches TMPJN2 in AMD Overdrive (monitoring) and system temp matches TMPJN1. EasyTune still reports 720BE as AMD Sempron, Toliman, 65nm.
F4d bios.
F4d bios --> USB keyboard appears nonfunctional in bios but actually just very, very slow. ???
Edit: why is yaxo11's latency so high? mine is 17 something.
Mine up 2 now been testing bit by bit each day! Fully stable cpu on normal volts just cpu NB +250 and MemVolts 1.7V
Lost 500 3D'06 points with F4g bios. Going back to F4d.
Edit: HT default = 2600 with F4d
HT default = 2000 with F4g
does anyone have problem overclocking ram with this mobo
anyone tryed and tested final F4 bioss
Have found F4G to be a bit better with memory but could be better! Have got 2ghz stick but i cant get them over 1680Mhz in bios! Before with F3 1645Mhz abit of a improvement i guess!
New bios out F4 Here with new feature HT width which isnt in F4G! Plus it has ACC
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=3005
I thought it was the old F4 but it different!
I saw that when looking today on GB's site. I won't be home till 6:30pm EST tonight. I was going to try it out. Has anyone used it yet?
with f3b bioss i unlocked 4th core, after that i tried other biosses and no success, now i went back to f3b and cant unlock it again, help
edit: i make it work again, you have to clear cmos, boot, shut down, remove cpu, boot, shut down, put cpu back, boot, go directly to acc and put it to auto
this is how it should look if succes
http://www.shrani.si/f/3E/tv/1arNuNft/4-jedra.jpg
Turn pc off and clear cmos normally works!
F3i or l I can't read it ha ha bios at Gig tw. 3-16-09
Edit: Added AMD C1E support (Software support default on)/ Many manual Memory options
Thanx mate will try now! Hopefully i can boot up at 2000Mhz Mem!
F3i Bios works fine i like the new memory options just hope it will give me a bigger mem clock Now!
F3i bios
EasyTune no longer reports voltage or temp.
Red background color in Overdrive is gone and pci-e reads 108.3! Had to change bios setting from AUTO to 100. 2.8Ghz
Running @ 3.5 now.
Have found this the best Bios for my memory up 2 now!

So F3i is not unlocking the 4th core either?
Yeah but its killing me cause my 4th core OCes stable to 3.7 so I cant really just leave it off. If it was hurting my OC then I would disable it and use the new bios. :(
Passed the 1.5hr L4D test @ 3.5Ghz ha ha. No sound problems.
I like it.:)
Only lost 500 3D'06 marks dropping from 4 cores (F3b) to 3 (F3i). Have not tried unlocking with this bios yet.
im about to test this new beta bios to see if it fixes some issues

Now we are talking.......time to sell an asus board.......
