I rang a close by powder coater today, gave him a rough estimate on the size of the internals, he said to strip it/powdercoat it may be $40! (AUD) Some people told me it may be up to $300. It sucks they're not open on a Saturday....Looks like first thing after school on Monday! Lets hope there is a quick turn around ;)

cool man. not really familiar with prices of powder coating, but good luck with that. We wish the turn around time is not much neither, we wanna see this thing finished as much as you do :up:

Thats a pretty good quote on powder coating... In my area I've seen some places charge anywhere between $75-$150 USD depending on the size of the case and color (plain or speciality color) used.

What type of black (or will it be a different color) are you planning of of using since even in black there are tons of choices?

Also build is looking good and the tube routing is looking superb.

UPDATE - 15/03/09

Powdercoaters tomorrow! Hopefully if I get it done by them it'll be <24hour turn around :D

Today I decided to sleeve my fans and solder some together so they run off 1 channel. My fan controller is rated @60watts/Channel so I could really have 5+fans per channel but I don't need to so I'm not going too!
Doing fans like this is pretty easy, it can be broken into simple steps -
1) Plan how your cables will go
2) Cut wires to suitable lengths
3) Cut sleeving to suitable lengths and place heatshrink over it
4) Twist the wires together
5) Solder
6) Heatshrink over the solder
7) Repeat for next fan/s

Dingdong, good job sorting out the fans on the rad. Really no need to have them separately when you can have them work of the same channel. Too bad I didnt do that to the 4 fans on my HW Labs GTX 480. lol. They already came sleeved and everything. Just need to mod the wiring. Maybe your update is the inspiration I needed lol

Does the extra fan on the triple rad add much more work by any chance? Pretty much the same as the dual rad, just one more fan correct? Unless there is a special way of doing the triple rad, I dont know im just asking. lol.

It requires a little bit more work, but you do it the same as a dual with one more fan basically. :up:

Hopefully if the guy tomorrow at the powdercoaters doesn't have much work to do which I presume because of the economy, then I hope it'll be a <24hour turn around, once that's done....Reassemble and some other final touches :yepp:

Well, I just got back from the powdercoaters....because it has to be stripped, it has t be sent away, luckily he has more stuff going there this week, he gave a rough ETA of the end of the week. Fingers crossed.

Update - w00t!!!

Well, got a call from Alan today (powdercoater) and my case is READY!!! so overall it took 4 days for it to be sent away to be stripped of the old spray paint, then Alan powdercoated it! WOW! and the cost.....$60AUD for stripping AND powdercoating ($40US!!!) I'm getting my brother to pick it up tomorrow as I have work straight after school, looks like the weekend will be very fuuurnnn. :)

I would like to thank Alan who is the one that powdercoated my internals ;) 4 days it took him to send it away to get stripped of the old spray paint AND powdercoated, AMAZING! he only charge $60AUD ($44USD) too....I don't need to say anything more.

Sorry for the pictures, I really want to get this build 90% done this weekend, I'll have better pics of the internals tomorrow when I have daylight! (Please don't rain like it is now....)

UPDATE - Mock build

hey guys!

After many dilemmas....I have to order a new midplate which should be here by the end of this week, my pump top will be here Wednesday, by the end of the week I hope to have this finished.

So I decided to put it all together to see how it looks, turns out pretty good IMO.

Few things I know that aren't right -

- The PCI-e cable on the right needs to be resleeved, I'll be using a 8pin extension so the 8pin plug is in one and not 6+2pin.
- The powdercoating on the back of the motherboard tray (on the left) is wrong....I think some of the sticky residue was left over from the sticky pad thing on there, any ideas how I can cover it up? I'm a bit stumped here.
- I know I have no pump top :D

It's from the sticky pad that was on there before powdercoating, if I remove it I think bare metal will be under it.

I drilled the hole on the mid plate in the wrong spot as I didn't account for the fans on the radiator. :(

IC .... can't you just redrill a new hole and leave the exisiting one instead of reordering and powdercoating a new mid plate.

Also for the residue, it weird how the sandblasting didnt remove that residue before they powdercoated it...

You could creatinvely find a way to cover it with your cabling maybe if your going to some wire management back there or a plain black sticker maybe :shrug:

Very strange how it wasn't removed.

I could drill another hole but it would looks messy :D I already sold my other one so all is good.

with regards to the sticky residue, there is no way to get it off withut dammaging the powder coat finish. Powder coaters often don't sandblast items that are free of rust/imperfections unless requested as it is just not necessary and adds to cost. Just like they don't degrease unless the items are greasy :P

The red coolant looks pink in direct sun....when it's OUT of the sun but still in light, it's a dark deep red, looks awesome.

I played a footy match on Sunday (Australian football) and I don't think I knocked it, on Monday it was a little bit sore, I went to work later that day and all I do is basically lift boxes full of potatoes etc.. :D Yesterday I woke up and just about died, I can't move it side to side, up and down is fine (Thanks god :D) but the other way isn't :( There go my plans of cleaning the garage to fit my new tools :mad:

Because of my clean tubing route, I had to put the GPU (4870X2) BEFORE the CPU which puts temps up a little.

My Q6600 @ 3.6ghz LOAD is about 58*C - Pretty good considering my GPU is before it.

I haven't tested the GPU fully at load but after a few games it's about 40*C :)

I guess thats not that bad. considering your GPU is before. :up: as long as it looks clean!
