Keep on working in "your" perfectionism we all like.
They raised the wall after he entered the room. Now he can't get out anymore, but that was my ... eeeeh ... their idea :D
Charles. I am loving that workshop. It has so much potential, and that view really takes the cake. Although I must admit that if it weren't for your far superior photography skills, we wouldn't be having the same reaction, lol.
Now put some carpet on that floor! :p:
dang, that room had me fooled. i never thought you were on the roof, figured it was the basement. no windows, cement walls, the pipes
Thank you James. :)
That sunset was really something! I actually took 400 pics which I know is insane, but it just got better and better.
Thanks for the very kind words Muki. :)
Cheers Daniel. :)
I can't wait to take some pics up there - I just need to get the table. Your case will be the first to be photographed. :yepp:
Cheers Marin. :)
Thanks Henry. :)
Thank you Daniel. :)
I can't wait to get the room ready for work!
It's much better than the place I used previously... believe me!
hehe, good catch Rocky. The entrance is to the right of the cardboard boxes.
They're not hidden... they're in the back garden where they belong!

Indeed! Cheers. :)
hehe, Cheers tamtam. Excellent use of emoticons to tell a story! :)
I'll take a shot of the entrance... I warn you that it's not very interesting. :)
When I move to Germany you can entomb me, until then I'm FREEEEEEEEE! :ROTF:
Cheers Jason. :)
No carpet - makes for harder cleaning of tiny metal bits. Don't worry; I've got my bunny slippers for when it gets cold. :)
That's what I love about it - looks like a subterranean lair from the inside... then you open the door and POW!
murderShop Update:
Whipped up the murderBench in 3d. Nothing fancy, just something solid.
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/mB.complete.01.jpg
Ignore the colors - it won't be painted. :)

I likes 'em high so it will be pretty tall. I'll also build a shelf into the base for storage. As an Aquarist who builds his own tank stands, I'm a classic overbuilder. Pretty much everything I build out of wood is overbuilt. It's a sickness really... Well, if I ever decide to get a 300 Gallon tank, I'll have a stand. ;)
Anyway, here's the lumber. Now where did I put those instructions...
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/DSC_5214e.jpg
Thanks for looking in. :)
what is this wood your using??? I want waterjet cut, gutted TJ07's to construct the murderbench!
Now we know why his name is 'Harwood' :).
Damn i didn't know you live in Vancouver until i saw science world lol...great work man
wow, not only is that a great shop, but real world lighting will make your photo's even better..
I must say that your an amazing photographer, those pictures were great, and a few deserve to go in XS Xtreme Photography section I think. lol. I only WISH I could take photo's like that.
Good luck with your new shop, and I look forward to seeing your work. and I must say, one day i WILL own one of your pieces of art that we all call computer cases.
Well, Charles wonderful work..now I know what drives you, What a view, really it inspires one to do great things. Charles, thanks a lot for helping me with the whole hole tapping project on the 900. I finally got it done and powder coated that case. I am starting on another one..hopefully, soon I will have the TJ-07 to play with and integrate some murdermods to it.
Your work is truly amazing...not to mention your advice, thanks Charles..Looking forward in reading about your projects some more.
Hey...watch it now, those are my cousins!
hehe, have you seen the price of TJ07s lately? If the price keeps going up I'll have to have them transported by armored car!
Actually, it's funny how often people spell my name Hardwood.
I guess it's better than Softwood. ;)
Thanks Jaivan. :)
Wow, thank you for taking the time to say that; I really appreciate your kind words and support. :)
Thanks Habib (I'm assuming that's you). It's been my pleasure to help; I'm glad to hear you're making good progress there.
I hope you're planning to do a worklog of your upcoming TJ-07 project. :)
This explains a lot... :p:
murderShop Canada Update: Got the main workbench finished - coating the topside with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane took a few days, what with all the coating, waiting and sanding. Five coats seamed to do the trick, hopefully it will give me a resilient surface. The final step was the lighting which I got from Home Despot. I went with two 4-foot strips of T-8's w/ reflectors. They're not too pricey and do a nice job. I put rubber pads under the legs to help absorb impacts and reduce their transfer down into the building.
Wednesday I will start using the bench as I have much to do and no time to waste! The rest of the shop will be filled out over time; things like a rolling mechanics tool chest, standing metal tool cabinets and a built in wall storage unit for parts. I like having a place for everything and effectively using up all available wall space. I'll probably build another largish table on wheel that will be used to layout parts and whatnot. The rest I'll figure out as I go. :)
Anyway, no post is complete without pics so here are a trio. Nothing exciting I'm afraid - just proof I actually completed the workbench. :yepp:

Wow man, you have some serious skill ;)
Hmmm, that stool matches the bench too ;)

Aha!
A master of carpentry too! Is there anything Charles can't do...? :p:
Nice looking bench there Sir..
and your welcome. I just thought I'd share that I thought you were a great photographer... Anyways, I'm about to write and start my Work-log. I just finished my second coat of Primer in my Ugly, yet great performing Cooler Master HAF case.. that I'll be WCing.
Good Luck Charles.
no idea if you mentioned this already or not, but is that workshop near 101 national ave. in vancouver?
could you post the dimensions on the bench, this may be my summer project once all the damn snow melts. . .
Thanks for the latest installments Charles. That's an awesome set up and the view is going to make your work look even more impressive. I've always been in awe of your mastery of image and substance. I think I need a murderMod...
And I agree that is an awesome old Drill Press :D
Thank you for the comments and words of support Guys. :)
I haven't been around as much as I'd like due to my current workload. Nils has got me working on many new designs which is keeping me very busy! Zen Frog was whispering something about a mutiny but he always was rather lazy. He pretty much just sits around all day with that hopeful look on his face - like he's waiting for a handout. I told him there are no free lunches and he better start pulling his weight. His arms and legs may be fused to his body but he could at least try to make himself more useful. If he doesn't shape up I'll send him to either Kirk or Nils; both of who've got cats that I'm sure would enjoy batting him around all day.
Speaking of Kirk, we're in the process of moving the North American murderMod shop from Canada to Kirk in Minnesota. This seems like a logical move since the large majority of the store's sales are in the US. The main pluses are that shipping will be cheaper and turnaround will be much faster. We'll also finally be filling out the murderWare section of the store and completely restructuring the sleeving area with the addition of many new products and options. Kirk will also be starting his first two murderbox builds within a week. I've just finished prepping the case mod portion of the builds and have sent the cases to Kirk where he will work his magic and complete the builds. Nils and I are very excited as this is a milestone moment in our business - the first murderboxes in the US! It's going to be a very proud moment; seeing someone else build a murderbox. I know Kirk will do an amazing job. :)
Sorry for the wall of text but I just wanted to give you guys a bit of an update. My schedule has been insane the last few months but the net effect will be many new things to show very soon. :yepp:
Cheers. :toast:
Yes, very near. :)
The dimensions are 36" wide, 96" long and 40" tall. It was designed with the frame as the entire structure so the top could be easily removed. This workbench will be used for heavy duty cutting and whatnot so I imagine the top will get damaged and need replacing frequently.
If you'd like a cut list and detailed drawings just email me. :)
charles...as you know im a huge fan of your work and we have talked about parts for the FT-01. any plans on doing front/back plates for them?
keep up the great work as always and now hopefully you will have an order from me soon. i took a break from awesome black to pc's to play with awesome black guns lol but i will be getting back into the modding world soon.
Very nice workshop! That's a million dollar view too right out of the workshop!!! Too bad that wall couldn't be a wall of windows! Anyways, just wanted to comment on your workbench. Looks pretty nice and sturdy. If you do plan on going through with that lower shelf, I might just suggest that you add two more 2x4 crosspieces, one on each side, in those center areas. Just for the extra support! Depending on how heavy the stuff you put on there will be. Doing that, you could probably also get away with a thinner sheet of plywood to save a few bucks! Anyways, I'm sure you've got it under control :P. Thanks for all the wonderful pics!
Mike
:shocked: Charles I need my fix of murder mod, show us some new stuff pretty please :shocked:
your mad if you're going to sleeve that bench
:ROTF:
hmm, maybe I should dust off my saw table too
Golly; I forgot about this thread! :hitself:
Truth is, I've learned my lesson about showing stuff before it's ready to be offered. We love revealing prototypes and such but there's often a lot more time between them and final retail products than one initially thinks. Rather than have to keep telling people "soon", we figured it best to work through the process from start to finish before showcasing new stuff.
I will say that there is a LOT of stuff in development. :yepp: All kinds of stuff. Some things that have already been revealed and others that are totally new. Just know that even though there's not a lot of recent activity, there's a lot going on behind the curtain and things will start making their way to the light of day soon. Doh! there's that word again!
Cheers. :)
I'm pretty sure everyone's waiting in anticipation :)
Hey Charles,
Is there any chance us Cosmos 1000 guys will be able to get a Murder Mod fix?
I hope this means that soon I can give you money and you can give me some of those beautiful res mounts that we've been seeing. Also kind of wish we could get some MurderMod love for us TJ09/10 users(unlikely).
Here's hoping soon is sometime in the next month and not 2-3:)
Charles you're such a tease :P
Charles, why not take a router to your work table and install some T-Tracks on it for easy clampdown?
I haven't looked closely at that case but from what I can see, there's little room for improvement. Perhaps a closer look is needed. :)
We're working on those res holders. :)
Not my intention - I assure you!
Those look great; I'll have to consider them! For now, I use my mini workmate thingy for most jobs. It clamps to the workbench and provides a stable surface for most tasks. I make jigs and cutting fences from pieces of wood and clamp them to the mini workmate with those quick grip clamps. Primitive system but it works. One day when I have some time, I'll construct a more advanced solution like that of the T-Tracks. Thanks for that link. :)
I understand what you are saying, since that comment I have looking at and trying to see something that could be done. I am certain that if anyone could figure out something, it would be you Charles
For now I guess I will just have to stick with the wire sleeving kit.:yepp:
do want all of that stuff
Mmmm, noticed the Murderbox store is down.. Perhaps stuff is coming soon
O.O That's right, I said "soon" Oh noes!
Charles, are you going to continue this thread. It's extremely interesting!
hello? has the US store been opened yet? I had sent an email a long time ago and never got a response....
Oh yes ! Charles reactivation in June. I can not wait !
Cheers. :)
The intention was to update this thread but I've simply been swamped for the past year! Perhaps if things ever settle down we can hopefully breathe some new life into this dusty old thread. :yepp:
Hello!
Please resend your email - it's not like us to miss one. :)
June was the target; I'm afraid it's now looking more like July. :sofa:
:)
Whats an email i can send to? Its been a while and i dont remember which i email i sent out to.
Sadly Charles I could not wait any longer! So I bought a TJ07 and plan on getting it powder coated locally. However if you start selling some TJ07 parts again I may have to jump on it.
hey charles, did you use double tape or glue to patch this?
http://murderbox.com/uploads/mM.FP014.11.16_0016.jpg
i want to make front panel like this so, but i confused to make it screwless like the murdermod :)
that does not look screwless you can see where it mounts to the bays the 4 holes on the sides
Give new stuff! The few things I have had have been amazing!
Workshop looks ace!
Cant wait for updates Charles!
the neighbors taking super hi res pics of you front yard?
