Nice render WytRaven! I might give the indigorenderer a try, as it's compatible with SketchUp. I've had Kerkythea crash a couple times, so maybe indigo will be a little more stable?

indigo is a great render, but a bit more complicated i would say i know the last time i used it (a few years ago) it was not very easy to use
hopefully now its simplified, which would be awesome since its a free renderer
Thanks for the crit's evil. I know what you mean about the ground material, a bit too reflective! I've had another go at this scene with a different material. Still can't quite get the realism I'm after, but better IMO. It's not easy getting the materials and lighting just right. Especially when it takes so long to see the results of any changes...

Ok....Sorry for all the questions. So evil, as far as a learning curve, which of these three (Inventor, Rhino, Solidworks) is the easiest to learn? I have some experience, but most people would call me a beginner. Like I said before, I hate sketchup, so I'm looking at these three. Thanks :up:
I am a mechanical engineering major. I have tried nearly every large commercial CAD/CAM program. I have used AutoCAD 2007, 2008, and 2009, SolidWorks '08 and '09, and Inventor 2009. I have taken whole classes on these programs. In my opinion the hardest to learn is AutoCAD and the one that I prefer most is SolidWorks 2009.
Great sketches guys, what are most of you using for your renderings. I prefer Maxwell.

That's a good question! It wasn't easy! Here's how I did it:-
1. Import jpeg of logo into SketchUp
2. Trace the logo using SketchUp drawing tools
3. Create a 3D object from the traced logo using the push-pull tool
4. Intersect the 3D logo with the fitting
5. Delete the unwanted parts of the 3D logo to leave an impression of the logo on the surface of the fitting
6. Ensure that the logo has a different material to the fitting before exporting to Kerkythea...
7. Lots of patience! ;)

That's one of my favorite BP fittings. I love the sweeping smooth surface and the performance loss is negligible.

Depending on how wide it is you could probably make both rads 480s, in my Lian Li PC-V2010 I have a TFC 480 with 25mm fans in the bottom compartment and it fits nicely, however I do have it on exhaust, people freaked about blowing air from the rad to the PSU but tbh by ZM-1000HP doesn't run hot at all, PSU is cold to tepid to the touch and the air it expulses is barely warm too, probably to do with the fact I'm not stressing it much though.
Got caught up in school work and still need to find a good way to export the model into something I can render it easily in.

I first designed the shroud in Adobe Illustrator and exported the paths as a DXF and imported it into Google Sketchup. After extruding the path, I exported the model into Kerkythea (using the SU2KT plugin) and applied materials (available on the Kerkythea website), an HDR lighting environment, and rendered with the Metropolis Light Transport setting.
Someone really needs to make that case asap!

If they are I would love to get your settings....lighting, environment props settings. I have been admiring your renders and would like to get to that level with your help.

So I know this render sucks, and I need to work on lighting and background and pretty much everything, but it's my first attempt at rendering anything in my life, so go easy :p: I threw this together in about an hour including rendering time (Sketchup + Kerkythea) I plan on working on it for a loooooong time tomorrow to make it look decent. I've been admiring all of you guys from afar and decided to see what I could add (kind of takes away from the thread if you ask me, but hey, gotta start somewhere :p:)

Scooby, sorry I haven't got back to you, but I don't get a lot of time. Yes I do use SketchUp & Kerkythea, but I'm no expert. I am still finding my way around both these programs. Your renders look pretty good, to improve them, it's just a case of experimenting with different materials and maybe make some adjustments to them using the material editor. Inserting lights in different positions, and try using globals, I am mainly using the HDRProbe. I then render using 'Metropolis Light Transport (BPT)' normally between 50 and 100 passes.

Most of the internals have been downloaded from the SketchUp warehouse, with some modifications of my own. It's the case design thats all my own work, just using the internals to show what the case would look like with the components installed. It takes about 3 hours to do 50 passes, which is normally enough for a crisp render, but I only ever use 3 cores of my Q6600 so I still have some processing power for other tasks...:cool:

yea, after i draw in the channel as a new component i project the channel as a sketch and extrude it to fill the channel.
from a profile the oring is more of a filleted rectangle, i add the oring just for visual appeal.
hope that helps, thats probably the easiest way to do it in inventor. i havent used solidworks for anything serious for a good while so i couldnt tell you how to do it there.

I know what you mean Metric. I was messing with different materials, lighting and camera positions to see what effects they had, but couldn't get the effect I was after. Gave up in the end and just posted the best of a bad bunch...:rolleyes:

Maybe I can help you with this problem. It'll take a slight alteration of the design but it should work just as well. Instead of a solid copper base, make it Delrin and just use the copper where it's needed (like Bei's and NeaKuh's 2-in-1 MOSFET).
Also, are those screw holes counterbored? If so, the sharp corners made by the tools will be the first place cracks occur in the tops. The longevity of the tops would be greatly improved if the screws were flat heads (82° chamfer) or low profile/button heads left above the surface.

problem is the cost of materials, also the sourcing of oring.

Also the SB wont clear the 2 caps. :rofl:
everyone forgets about those 2 caps because bei hide them very well.
Thanks for the suggestions Waterlogged! I agree that it would be possible to modify this design to reduce the amount of copper required, but it would be nice if it was all copper. Yes? I also agree that if the top was acrylic, it would probably be a good idea not to counterbore the screws. This wouldn't be such a problem if the top was made from Delrin though.

The O ring is not that much of a problem. It is possible to get O ring kits that allow you to make an O ring of any size that you require. I have also taken the capacitors into account with my design by cutting two recesses into the copper....

The bridge was too costly in materials, and also the time required.
i would love to see a block like that tho. Dont get me wrong.
But a master builder like bei laughing, was definitely not a good sign.
also you need a higher jump from mosfet to other mosfet. Theres a load of caps from one mosfet to another.
Definitely not saying your design is horrible, as i said i would love to see a working final product, but it was just too difficult to make.
Totally agree NaeKuh. This block, or something similar, would be fantastic if time and expense wasn't an issue. It is good fun, however, to be able to ' visually' create your ideas and dreams with rendering software, rather than just imagining them. I hope it also gives pleasure to others to be able to see these ideas....:D

Well possition the threads so the rotary hard pipes would allign and so you can drop on add a hard pipe. Does this make sense? I would love to see a render of how one would look with bitspower hard piping.
basically the blocks would need to be setup first.
then you would need to messure the length of the hard pipe with rotary.
Tap holes on the top of the blocks where the rotary would screw onto.
You got hard piping via rotary now :up:

I've actually had quite a few requests to do a single slot GPU-only block but the profit/work ratio is screwed on that one. I'm not all about profit but I am not interested in working for minimum wage either.
The other major problem is cooling the two ram chips hidden under the block... there's a couple solutions but none are what I would call elelgant.
