Love this chip. Mine has a VID of 1.2875 - which seems really high to me. Also not quite sure what a safe voltage for the 45nm chip is on air?
Broke my HSF so had to go back to the stock Intel cooler :down: But even then, orthos stable @ 3.75GHz (10x375). Can boot into windows and run super pi all the way up to 4GHz :up:

Edit: Had to dial down my 3.5GHz oc. Even though it passed linx, prime95, and memtest I would get 'windows has recovered from a serious error' pop-ups and once I even got a memory_management bsod which tells me it's my cheap ram. I'm back to 3.3GHz(60c on prime95 load). Only had to up the vcore one notch from stock.
Edit: Hmm that's funny, to get my 3.3GHz oc stable this time I had to raise vcore to 1.31250. I'm pretty sure it was stable before by just raising vcore one notch up from stock. Guess oc'ing and all that linx and prime95 testing took its toll on my cpu.
i recently swapped up for a new cpu, the intel e5200, i was able to OC it to 4.0ghz (320x12.5) at 1.43volts to the cpu. ram is at 4:5ram ratio, 800mhz.
temperatures under Prime95 is 61c to 67c.
what does everyone think? is it safe to keep it running under such conditions? is the voltage to the cpu too high? or the temperature?
i believe i can push it more but idk if that is advisable? intel lists the thermal temp at being 74c, and while i am no expert, i am sure i should keep below 74c? how much further below , temperature wise?
how much voltage from the default voltage could someone overclock before its dangerous? even if the temperature is cool?
p/s of misc info:
-mobo: abit ip35 pro
-ram: 2gb (2x1) ram of crucial ballistix ddr800 (6400) at 4:5ratio with 555-18 timings. i believe it is running at 800mhz
-OCZ 600watt psu with 80% eff. rating.
what other info do i need to share? i have yet to adjust anything besides the vcore.

ive bought another one a few weeks ago which could do 4,6ghz with 1,42V but sadly i cracked that one :shakes:

Big congrats VanDynck for 5.4Ghz on E5200 - I never imaged THAT would be possible. A lot of E5200's struggle to reach just 4Ghz.

Not spectacular like I had hoped but fully stable every day and no bluescreens like with my older E2160
failed orthos unfortunately but passed some Everest System Stability testing
However I think decent for 87.00 canadian..
Same score as my E8600 at 4ghz in Everest CPU benchmark
Idle 27-35 and average 47 at 100% load with Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro...
and 1.51 vcore in Bios
PWM seems a little hot though without the old intel cooler and Northbridge was in the way when I first tried to install Arctic cooler - heatsink too big..but cooler fit anyway
may try for 4.2 but 4 ghz is more than enough for me considering it's originally 2.5 ghz at stock...
this was a real bargain

Would have expected you to get to 4GHz at lower vCore. Especially living in Manitoba and with a 1.22 vID :) Mine needs about 1.38V for 4GHz - not 1.1v like some other lucky posters.Quote:

You may need to tweak a little more. I actually found my performance improved a little over time. Some sort of burn in... reaching stability after a week or two.

Edit: now that I think of it I'm just glad it could reach 4 ghz at all... I heard of some people geting some really bad batches where it wasn't even stable at 3.5 and 3.7 no matter what they did..
At least it's stable for every day use (for everything I do anyway) ...it just won't pass Orthos...
at 1.5 volts I don't expect it to last more than a few months anyway...
After this I'm gonna try the E7400 or E7500 depending on which is cheaper at the time then it's on to the Quads
I'm just not looking foward to having to haul out the ol floppy (so to speak) and update the Bios.... I'd hate to lose the board... :eek::eek::eek

Why not go E6300, I had a nice one : E6300 tested for gaming it's more than enough and 4ghz should be a no brainer at low volts (with high FSB action)

That CPU did 4Ghz on air with 1.32Vcore... 4.5 was 1.45... Extra cache really helps in some games and apps... I have no clue how the prices have evolved but hey are certainly lower then why I reviewed the E6300... Too bad you are so far away as once the I5 rigs are available I'm selling my E7400...

The E7400 was even better :) 1.3 Vcore for 4Ghz and 1.4 for 4.5Ghz 2 hour prime stable ( Custom 20K ) I hope you get a good one mate, some users reported difficulties breaching 4Ghz on their E7400's... mine topped at 545FSB, for the E6300 +/- the same... once over 4.5 it was hard to keep her cool for benches... Single stage got me up to 4.9Ghz, Cascade power was required to go beyond 5ghz...

btw I tried some ref tweaking etc and 1.5000 in Bios is the minimum vcore it will accept for 4 ghz before it crashes all the way to hell.....
Well, I think I will never try something so hard. It's not that pratical. I made my E5300 to 3.75G using AIR. But it's R0.
I know, I specifically got this 2nd system (top of my signature) for fooling around and burning out chips.... My main one is the E8600 with a safe voltage...
If it goes it goes... I don't expect anymore than a few months out of this chip anyways...

Something from me :D All on air, but this chip is so hot. 80-85c on cores during this run (decent cooler @ 2000 RPM fan). I heard that hot chips are good on subzero, so we'll see. Next -> phase change. FSB wall @ 380MHz, I'll see how's it going on cold :)

Had a spare 100.00 floating around so I snagged a quic E7400 befor I buy my UD3P/UD3R next week...
I don't know if you would consider this good, but it's Virtual DubMod Stable (100% load) - max 56 Temps and seems to require only 1.40 vcore unlike my previous E5200 @ 4.0 whic required a whopping 1.54 vcore in the bios for 1.52 just to be stable... Much better improvement, although not spectacular - I was hoping for VT but I got an old RO one...
Amazingly i forgot to reset bios to stock from my e8600 in this board and it booted at 4.2ghz with same vcore...don''t know how stable though...
Multiplier and fsb are virtually identical minus half the cache + an extra .5 for good measure...
