Hardmod.

Hi!
Several times I read, that you guys reached clocks about 860/1000. I get theses Clocks nearly, too, but not on both GPUs. How did you manage these clocks?
In CCC I only can run 800. Do I have to flash the Asus BIOS? Furthermore my Ram isn't able to run more than 950?! How did you manage this?
Is there also a pencil-mod possible at the card?
I will share the hard mod as soon as it is possible. It is under NDA now.
It is easy mod to use, cause no adjusting or trimming variable resistors anymore.
Sorry! I don't mean to tease you with it.
What do you mean with it?
Is this a pencilmod or not?
emertX, I suggest you actually read the thread - all the answers are there already (or elsewhere in the forum)

Your answers are in this thread but I'll try to answer them again 4uQuote:
I Quote myself!
My & I'm sure quite a few others cores will run 800~860 but there is a difference between run & bench. My optimum core speed to bench & game is 830 any more than that & Vantage gets choppy & my scores go down.
I am sure just like CPU's there will be some poo cores & some blinding cores but at Ģ350/$600 or so per card most of us will have to make do with what we have.
Flash to the ASUS Top BIOS posted in this thread & the CCC core limit will be 900MHz.
My RAM would only run 950MHz until I flashed to the ASUS top BIOS & now it will run near 1100 although it artifacts above 1070 ish. I think the timings must be slackened off as the performance at 1050 is as far as I can tell the same as the original BIOS @ 950.
Hope this helps :)
@C-N
Thanks a lot!!!
So the solution is to flash the Asus Bios and I can clock my card above the normal settings. Thanks again...
Can we flahs that card with ATIWINflahs on windows ? If yes how we see what is the slave gpu and the master ? I see on WinFlahs 2 GPU and one 4870x2 (in use)
use ATIFlash
I never use this soft and he dosen't work on vista.I have error when I open it.It impossible with ATIWinflahs ?
Take Atiflash to flash your card, if you want to be on the save side of life ;)
You need to do it at DOS screen
Right. Where are you from? I've got a german explanation for this.
Nice guide 4 flashing, http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=11
"Yes, but how ? I cannot start it on vista. Can you tell to me how you do ?"
come on now, do a little reading about it. Google will make you smarter, and it's easy to query. I bet you can even do it in your native language.
Make dos boot disk, (1.44mb floppy) copy atiflash.exe to boot disk, copy T-M's bios .rom files to boot disk, boot from floppy, (this is where you kill your cards) flash command is} "atiflash -f -p 0 teamau-0.rom" for master gpu, "atiflash -f -p 1 teamau-1.rom" for the slave. WARNING, you do this at your own risk. No crying later. No RMA's. No refunds.
Ok I have do my usb Dos bootable :D
Now when I will be on the Dos systeme, what commande I use for flahs the first GPU the second the third and the last ?
ok but how to know I will flahs the slave or the master with the commande you have donate ? I need to put one card only at same time ?
atiflash -f -p 0 bios.rom (master)
atiflash -f -p 1 bios.rom (slave)
atiflash -f -p 2 bios.rom (master)
atiflash -f -p 3 bios.rom (slave)
Very thx guy, now before go to do this , wish me good luck :D and if for any reasons this fail, I can flahs back to the old bios dans do RMA after ?
Flash 1 card to start with.
Sure you can, blind flash or take pci card and you see what are you doing ;) that RMA i dont say anything
Good luck!
ok, but I not would void my warrantly, I not do extreme overclock and not plain to push card over is limit but just try this bios and use the soft by Asus.If I have some probleme or card come defect, I will be sure if I flahs back to the original bios, I will not have probleme with a RMA.
Thx :D
:horse:
The extra clocks on my ram from using this bios did give me a score increased in vantage right in line with 4870 CF clocked at the same speed so I wouldnt say that the ram timings have been loosened. Maybe your card is just getting bottlenecked so you dont see any gain from it. Having said that, extra memory bandwidth is hardly needed anyway so does not really increase fps in games by much at all.
Its the only way I can explain being able to run the RAM at 1100MHz with no voltage increase when it used to artifact at 960~980 or so at idle.
There was a difference from 900 ~ 950 on the stock BIOS & I have seen what I think is a small increase on the TOP BIOS going from 950 ~ 1059 but to be honest its within the margin of error so I cant really claim it.
CN :)
Use:
ATIFlash -i
(Shows the index of all current BIOS's on your cards, with a reference number such as 0,1,2,3 for CF 4870x2's)
Check to make sure that it mentions Master next to the 0 card, and slave next to the 1 card.
ATIFlash -f -p 0 TeamAU-0.rom (flash master of first card)
ATIFlash -f -p 1 TeamAU-1.rom (flash slave of first card)
ATIFlash -f -p 2 TeamAU-0.rom (flash master of second card)
ATIFlash -f -p 3 TeamAU-1.rom (flash slave of second card)
Regarding RAM timings, i too saw an increase in max RAM speed by flahsing to TOP.
Thx T_M, I have send to you 2 PM, you have put all the good setting but not sure you have use the Asus Top bios.
What software do you guys use to massure the volt? I use Rivaturner and gpu-z and no matterīs what settigs i do in Rbe, Rivaturner/gpu-z still says 1,26V. Can someone tell me what i doing wrong
I've vmodded my Asus-BIOS. Looking if my 1,35V are shown in GPU-Z? Just installing drivers!
 thanks for the guide and roms TM
flashed no problems :D running 822/1000 stable
measure vcore with a digital multimeter.
Watch the volts while you run 3D also ;)
No i have not yet run 900 core.
Im saying if you want to try, just uninstall CCC and then there will be no clock limit.
I will be trying very soon to run above 900 core ;)
ok, now i understand the earlier post
your thinking ccc just being there is stopping progression towards 900
and thats how no name got there.
I've flashed back my original!
The Asus is terrible. The fan is so loud for the first two minutes...damn!
Furthermore, I was not able to get higher clocks with it at my stock-cooler, why? Just the Gpu was able to clock a little higher. But my ram still freezes at 960???
Any answer to my problem?
Uninstalling CCC definately does avert the clock limit, its already confirmed
I just found something interesting :D
Uninstall CCC, flash your BIOS's above the limit, then reinstall CCC.
My system is now happily running with CCC installed, just the overdrive function is disabled :)
I get overclocking in CCC no matter what I flash the bios's to. Strange.
been testing the cooling capacity of stock sink while oc and have to say under water this card could do alot more
Same question!
*Removed*
Great but what do you do do you remove the resistors or what?
remove them and solder them back left side where they r now
Does it mean that the gpu1 gets 1.55v and the gpu2 gets 1.65v ??
No, 1.55v @ bios = 1.55v 3D and if u put 1.65v @ bios = 1.65v 3D and so on...
Ok i thougth that it was to ad more volts
Damn! I missed the mod.
SOmeone who saved it please PM me!
Does it even matter?
Then iīm using Rbe and atiflach to raise voltage nothing happens. Highest voltage i get in 3d load is 1,28V measured with multimeter....
Yesterday i made the hardmod from Riska. Using 2 50ohms Vr, i get 1,31V in 3D load:up:
I still think that mod what Riska made is better and easier, that mod what i removed is under nda and looks like it will stay that way. Thats why i removed it.
Ok but what software did u use to raise voltage in bios with?
ok but RBE will just let me set it to max 1.35v ?
Yes i find it strange also, almost like it either doesnt work well or people want to keep it for themselves.
But knowing who is involved, im sure its not the later.
Oh F...*
I also missed this MOD!
Can anyone PM me this one? Please T M send it to me.
I was waiting the hole time, but this weekend I wasn't able to look this site...
Please guys stop PM'ing me to pass on the mod.
Ask the source.
OK, sorry for that!
No worries, its juts filling up my inbox
Sad that nobody send me this mod...
Maybe here's anybody who has got a warm heart...;)
Have you tried the mod, Tim? :)
http://www.octeamdenmark.com/forums/...6143#post26143
Here is the mod made by me with Paakkis pics
Riska, I not sure but this is not the mods , you need to solder the resistance to a anothers place not just remove it ?
No news for the memory voltmod ?
Look at the pics i am pointing to the solderpads you have to move them to!
And read the text on the pics
Not if the iron isent to hot aka 65watt go for 15-30watt iron
Has anybody already switched the sideport on the card?
What do you mean "the sideport" ?
I think he means the direct connection between the GPUs(without the PCIe-bridge), as referred to by AMD/ATi as Sideport.
This feature is currently disabled AFAIK, but maybe someone know how to enable it?
What will you gain to enable it?
Bandwith, and hopefully some performance. The data that are normally transferred through the PCIe-switch(the one between the GPUs), can be transferred directly between the GPUs, without going through the switch(that means higher datatransfer-speed). ;)
Some said ATi won't enable it, but we'll just have to wait and see. :)
Others said, that Ati is going to reserve this feature until the next Geforce generation.
It will bring the card up to 40% more performance...
All you guys have got a switch on the card, near the crossfirebridge. Did you switch it already?
The switch is for pal/ntsc for the video mode
Sure?
yes i am sure the same was on the 3870x2
any body still looking bios HD 4870X2 TOP ? Default Core 790 / 915
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/3...70x2topbg1.jpg
GPU 1 : http://rapidshare.com/files/149329073/R700.bin
GPU 2 : http://rapidshare.com/files/149329945/R700.bin
Will these work on sapphire cards?
i would also like to know if this asus bios works on the sapphire 4870x2 cards
are sapphire the only branded 4780x2 cards that have hynix gddr5 ? or are they all refrence to that asus bios.
It works on Sapphire Cards
I think ASUS TOP still reverence I dint see anything different ASUS HD 4870X2 TOP with ASUS HD 4870X2....
I can flash both my cards and they will both work with these bios? I remember doing 2 2900s and after I flashed them windows would only see one card, I found some different bios and flashed one card so they both would not be exactly the same and then windows showed 2 cards...
i just put the TOP BIOS with success....it was the first time. i also added the 1.35v.
i can get the GPU at 845mhz with no pro; i will keep like this but it looks i can push a little more maybe.
im playing oblivion at 1920x1080 and AA 4Xedge-detect and the frame-rates are the same with 800 and 845mhz core...... maybe cpu bottleneck?? but i have a E8600 at 4,285ghz..... dont know.
the problem is the memories.... before i could get 965mhz maximum and then artifacts. now 1000mhz its ok, but i cant push it more because of CCC.
is there any way to overclock the memories apart from trying and flashing it in diferent BIOS?? once i know the right value i can flash it.
thank you!
Take the Rivatuner 2.11
