Alright, I've installed the 1201 of 4 machines now and just off the top using EZFlash on over a defaulted bios will not require a cmos reset after flashing.
I haven't done any clocking yet, but thought I'd mention it.

I guess some boards are just beyond help :(
Well, after badgering Asus something chronic about the P5Q series BIOS, it looks like they are not going to be doing too much more with it. There may be an odd new BIOS here and there to improve memory compatibility more, and perhaps address the 400 strap issues, but thats about it. Here is the responce from Asus regarding both PCI-E and 400 trap issues;
I'm sorry for my late reply.
Here is the latest BIOS 1306 availalbe now: http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/so...S-PRO-1306.zip
In fact, we have no such BIOS aimed at improving PCIE overclocking capability.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Sincerely and best regards,
Lyn_Quan
Notice how they say nothing about the 400 strap problems.. maybe some of you guys want to send them an email telling them in detail about the narfed 400 strap?
Still working on it, but this is with your 803M Ket, Nice job!
Now if I could just get below PL10 I'd be happy.

Big Lar - are you using 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio? If so you can't go below PL10. If not, what vNB are you using?
Thanks for the info :) I am running 1:1 as I only have Pc8000 ram. Settings are below, guess I need to get some better ram.
FSB Ratio; 333
VTT; 1.30v
NB; 1.32v

Pcie; 1.60v
gtl 0/2; 0.665
gtl 1/3; 0.675

Pullins; disabled, going to work on these.
Larry
ps. any comments feel free to advise :)
thanks alot bro works great!
Eh, I run it Disabled as my cpu does not seem to be holding me back voltage wise, I've tried with llc enabled and up to 1.35v. I can get 3880/39xx with it but not stable, I think the L2 cache can't keep up. I'm happy with the clock, just looking for more bandwidth.
Larry
I'm using your modded 1201 BIOS for the Deluxe and I can't seem to get the E-Z Flash tool to work. The tool starts up but halts when it searches for locations for BIOS files. Other than that the BIOS seems to work great, and I appreciate your hard work on these.
thats probobly true :(
not alot of P5Q owners out there, so its difficult to get info from other users.
the 400 strap works as of bios v1104, but of course it is slower then 333 strap. i can do 510fsb easily on a 333 strap, the 400 strap doesnt take me further. then again how many P5Qs are running 510fsb 24/7 stable? ;)
the "1200mhz no boot bug" does exist on the P5Q, 1199mhz is 24/7 stable tho
your 1306 mBios appears to be/act identicle to the official 1306, no better no worse, identicle performance.
again, thank you for the effort :yepp:
Cool, I'll give it a shot after I finish a WU.
This Ket P5Q-E bios just saved this cpu and mobo a trip to the trash can. I am now priming at the lowest vcore yet for this garbage cpu and is complete prime stable 2hrs in...which beats my old record of 1 second prime stable.
Also, it looks like I need a vdrop pencil mod. I set my vcore to 1.4825 in the bios, and in cpuz I get 1.416v idle and load. LLC is disabled as when I enable it, it is complete unstable.
Weird, I set LLC to enabled and don't get any instability at all. Almost no vDroop either.
From day one i stated that on the P5Q Deluxe .. i have LLC enabled and hardly any Vdroop.... :)
Glad it helped tho I really don't know how. I can run just fine with LLC enabled, but it seems that I need to run a higher voltage to duplicate my same OC, kinda weird.
The 400 strap does make a slight difference on my board, tried my usual just about spd timings with the 400 versus my usual 333 and failed in 10 runs of Linpack. I changed Read Training to Auto from Disabled and passed fine with about the same bandwidth. Kinda different.
Larry
LLC seems to be borked on the E, I noticed it too... on the Dlx mobo it's fine, on my 2 E's it seems to be messed up, not even allowing me to get into windows, BSOD, locking up ,... , haven't tried the latest 1306 on it though...
Reading some of the banter I figure I may as well add my input for the P5Q Pro, all the testing I have done so far shows none of the discussed issues over the last page or so. However I can join the vdroop boat. If I set 1.475v in BIOS CPU-Z 1.46 reports 1.456v. Not what I would call a terrible vdroop as 1.456v is rock solid, but still, irritating all the same :p:
I forgot to post my ddr2 1200 the other so here it is before I leave town and can't play with my pc all week grr..,, enjoy,
http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/4973/twelveqc8.jpg
I could only get moderate to work strong made my raid controller think my drives were imcompatible. Thank god I made it back from that one.
It does here, I have an E8400 that does 4ghz at 1.21Vcore on the DLx ( no GTL tweaks) I cannot get it stable with LLC enabled on the E, popped the CPU back into the Dlx, set 1.21, enabled LLC , stable linpack puppy...
With LLC on, I get erratic behaviour, even non OC'ed... on the E board... which is a bummer :(
Sorry to hijack ya thread Ket
Dang I'm glad I picked the Pro. I will say though, during the experimenting stages I did notice parts of the Premium BIOS "took" much better to the Pro than the Dlx BIOS. IE; when using the Dlx memory table I would have to clear CMOS, but with the Premium memory table everything worked great on restart. (I know I was lazy when testing doing things from Windoze :p: )
I never had to clear CMOS when i flashed from m1201 to m1306 as a matter of fact i never have had to do so yet on any FLASH on this mobo .. P5Q Deluxe. .. thats like from the original 605 (me thinks) to now all Bios that were/are out and BETA's too.
All settings were there and all ran fine.
The modded 1306 on the Deluxe seems to have issues with voltages. I'll do more testing, but the board will refuse to POST when CPU PLL voltage is adjusted. Other than that it seems ok.
I am at PLL 1.56 Np's... 1306 mod bios.
Using the P5Q-E m1306. They kick ass! Thanks Ket. :)
I just got 4GHz out of this E8600 on stock Intel cooling and stock voltage of 1.25V. This is supposedly from the "bad batch" week 20 E8600's, too. :) Previously the same OC took 1.325V set in BIOS. I can't wait to replace this cooler. And I wish it would rain just a little bit of money from the sky for no apparent reason.
They will work fine as they use the Premium memory table. I was commenting about closed alpha builds I did using the Deluxe memory table not POSTing after an update. The Premium memory table works fine, so my guess would be Asus borked something (deliberately?) for all the boards below their Premium.
Same here on my P5Q-E with LLC on it causes more instability issue then it being disable. Been running LLC disable since official bios 1201, 1306 and now ket's modded 1201 & 1306. Hope this LLC issue get resolved sooner.
Thanx for the work.
Using 1306 for my P5Q-D, though it hasn't affected clocking in any way.
Still stuck with PL8 @ 400 FSB
fine here with PL7 at 1066 or 1200hz @ 400 strap, cpu on 400fsb
:\ Looks like I should get my new CPU in ASAP. This board just wont run 400 strap properly with an E4400.
Strap 400 works for me on this Q6600 and it better work if i use it on my E8600, but normally i never use a STRAP as i just manually set the ram speed with STRAP on auto.
the 400 strap didnt work on bios 1004 with a e8200, and setting it to auto doesnt fix that.
keep in mind, 400 strap is S L O W anyways ;)
ATTENTION ASUS: HIRE KET AND FIRE YOUR CURRENT BIOS anti-ENGINEERS!!!
From someone who actually likes his P5Q-E again - anything after v1103 borked my board.
m1306 has her back on the ball!
Someone P5Q Dlx on djordje . bigjoe [at] gmail . com please...
I cant download from MegapUpload :(
How about zSHARE? http://www.zshare.net/download/1807611379e19365/
Firstly thank you Ketz for the modded bios for the P5Q-e mobo, so far running exactly the same bios settings as I was on the offical bios, the only difference I am seeing is on memory latency, I am getting 2ns faster using your 1306m bios, (55.1ns) whereas with the offical I was getting 57.1ns.
Just need to check stability now and find out if I can finally overclock my RAM, which is something I have been deprived of for a very long time on this board.
My question to you guys is: I was already running the offical 1306 bios, so when I flashed to the 1306m modded bios, my boot block was not updated, Does this matter ? if so then please let me know so I can force the flash.
Thanks for the votes guys :D To my mind I haven't done anything special with these mBIOS revisions. I just replace certain parts of the BIOS from other BIOSes with perhaps a little tweak here and there, but it does bring one thing to light - the Asus BIOS dev clearly has no farking clue what their doing.
@ Seanie; It shouldn't matter the BB isn't updated, buy you may find it useful to do so. I have not bothered forcing a BB update simply because it will be a royal pain in the arse should something go wrong with the BB update and trying to get a new BIOS chip for the board. However, as part of the memory table I replace is actually involved with the boot process, there may be some advantages to updating the BB.
Thanks Ketz, not sure if I need to update the BB, right now im on PL8 at 1150mhz 5-5-5-18-2T tRFC 55 with the board at 460fsb, vFSB 1.22, vPLL 1.52, vNB 1.32, CPU @ 4.14ghz @ 1.42v, and best of all nearly 2000% through memtest pro, never before have I seen this stability on this board out of this RAM, and on top of all of that LLC is enabled, if I run into problems later down the line then I might flash the BB, but like you say, its a right pain in the arse, so if all is fine, I will stick to what I have for now.
THANK GOD FOR KET's
Thats damn sweet  I have done 1143MHz so far but I couldn't be arsed with getting it stable at that time. Not a bad result considering it was with some cheapy PC8500 @ 4-4-4-12.
First, im not sure its ur bios messing it up or something else, but it started after i flashed to 1306m.
I was running just fine with the 1306 beta, all stable at these settings:
p5q-d
E8600@460x10
2x1gb crucial pc5300 + 2x1gb cellshock pc6400 @ 1150mhz 5-5-5-15
PL at 9
1,4x vcore
1,62 pll
1,26 vtt
1,26 nb
2,10 vram
Then i flashed to 1306m, and it wasnt stable at the same settings, but it would run, then it just went down down down and at last i wasnt even stable at stock on all.
Tried to flash back to 1306beta but still all f*cked up, and i have reseted bios, battery out and so on.
Testing my cellshock atm 500fsb 1200mhz ram cl5 2.1v, no problems so far.
Posting later what i found out
My modded BIOS will behave differently due to the new elements, which does mean you will need to start over again. From my own testing and from others, there has not been a problem when just running stock, so I can't advise on that.
Agreed. Does some one want to buy my Q9450 from me here ? I will sell it for $280, considering it clocks so high and I paid $330 and it does so at low voltages, that has been proven. Ket I remember you saying lucky sap basicaly do you want to buy it? I want a dual core. I have already had a Quad core that clocks high on air now I want a Dual core that does the same.
I'd like to nab it off you, but I have some rather expensive bills to pay and a friends birthday night out I said I would go to. All mean I have little money for the next 2-4 weeks :(
If some one else doesn't come up with the money before then I will sell it to you sir.
Well, whatever it is you're doing, it's working very well for lots of us. I told several people on another forum today about your modded BIOS, and one of them in particular was happy because the mBIOS brought stability to a difficult overclock they'd been trying to achieve. Myself, I can clock this E8600 with less voltage than before. Great stuff.
Keep on, Ket. I for one really appreciate your efforts.
Well i never have done this before... 1133mhz on my ram and 1152mhz, but she rebooted.. read my recent post about it (below).
I like this 1306 modded Bios so far, not sure how gaming is under it YET.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...postcount=3473
hey what about modding my biostar t-poer i45's bios? or is it just asus?
Update to my last post.
There is no way the crucial pc5300 will run in the system now, no matter bios version. So im gonna test them in another system, weird if they are dead as they where running side by side with my cellshock and they are fine..
And the crucial pc5300 was running just fine before trying the modded 1306 bios. 1285MHz 5-5-4-8 at about 2.35volt(real) wasnt a problem.

Hi every body
my problem is very simble
when I want to overclok my Q6600 to 3.4 GHZ I use this setting
cpu multi. =9
fsb freq. =380
dram freq.=716 with my ram Kingston 2x1 GB Dual Channel (DDR2 800)
I note that there is a small hint in the left side of the bios page say
this hint here even if what the setting of FSB STRAB TO NORTH BRIDGEQuote:
dram freq. lower than 800 MHZ may cause system boot faliuer due to spec. violation
how come I cant get ram lower than 800
but when I but the dram bus =901 the system boot well
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/2407/q660012rv4.jpg
http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/301/q660013uk7.jpg
and also when I want to overclok the Q6600 to3.2 GHZ and dram freq.=800 and
FSB STRAB TO NORTH BRIDGE=400
the system refuse to boot but when I leav
FSB STRAB TO NORTH BRIDGE =auto system work fine
even with modded bios
i need some help here
Little OT, but what happen to the forums past 3 days or so?
Hi.
Is the FSB Strap essential for getting good overclocks? I just have it set to AUTO.
Do you have settings for a 8500 with PC8500 set to run 4.1ghz or so?
NO as i never really have used it even when i ran my Q6600 (just sold it) .. i have tried it on 266,333 and 400, but on AUTO its the same type of settings except for EXample: Strap 400 say = 900mhz on memory, but on AUTO and manually set it = 901 mhz .. so there is that tiny variance.
Ah I see.
I am going to give this modded bios a go on my P5Q-E, this mobo is doing my head in, I'm trying to get 500fsb, so trying it at 3Ghz to make sure I can (x6 multi), and orthos on Blend and memtest gets errors on the memory, the ram is underclocked, stock voltage and 5-5-5-15, 1000Mhz, stock been 1066Mhz.
I am on PL10 settings, DRAM Static Control disabled, DRAM Read training disabled, Mem OC. Charger enabled and AI Clock Tweaker set to lighter.
The above helped do 100% in memtest over 1024mb ran in 2 instances, I dont know about enabling clock skew for the ram to 200PS, worried I'll get a performance drop, I want to get to 4Ghz 100% stable with best performance.
Dont get it, cant these mobo's hit 500fsb properly?
Does PL10 not kill performance?
What FSB are you at?
Currently at 4050Mhz, 450fsb, 1.344V, and failed intelburntest, something is up it can be unstable now tho :\
Is that intelburntest good?
I just ran it through 10 tests and on the 10th the norm was different :(.
PL is at 10, ram is at 900, stock voltage, 5-5-5-15, made sure its 1:1 ratio.
ram stock is 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.0-2.1V
CPU Voltage was at 1.344V for 4050Mhz.
1.344V passed orthos Small FTT's for 8 hours, blend stresses the ram too not the cpu more right?
Also will altering mem clock skews from auto to say 200PS Delay effect performance?
I recommend not to run linpack anymore as it is inconsitant and can cause damage to componets including CPU degardation if used many times over.
if you can prime Using Orthos Blend Test at least 12 hours then your good to go, of course if you can prime longer your goo to go.
Every Overclock i have ever done i used Orthos Blend Test prime and years agp prime95 Blend Test.
Keep Skew on Auto and whatever i stated before do so too and try that for Orthos Blend test which stresses both Ram and CPU.
Some ppl will do smallFTT for CPU for 8-12hrs and then Large for Ram 8-12hrs.
Like i noted above i have never had any issues if i was prime Blend for 12hrs or more... of course more is better.
We will hardly ever stress or use our systems as much as Orthos Blend will do in a 12 hour cycle..... i fold as well when i am good to go on this clock i will fold and never have had any issues.
My timings are 5-5-5-15 - 55 the other settings for timings is set at Auto.
All pullins are enabled and PL10 is being used.
I will try blend now, sleepy time will wake up in night and will check, I'll be ****** if its failed :(, my settings are slack enough dont want a slow 4Ghz PC :\
Well if it fails say 12 hrs or beyond ..... don't worry about it as i usually only do 12hrs, but i figure for fun i run longer this chip and i am 13hrs and 46mins right now on it.
Don't panic or throw :banana::banana::banana: around if it fails in less then 12hrs.... me figure it out for you... usually rounding error = CPU volts or Ram timings and if you get a EXAMPLE: Error = AEB666 was expecting 455455HH error or anything like that ... usually means RAM voltage.
I cleared my CMOS because I made it madd by messing with the timings and I now notice that my memory has even gotten snappier? Also what I did different was left everything on auto cept the 5-5-5 part. I compared my screeny of my 52.3 where I timed all the settings myself and notice also that the board has loosened a couple of settings like the read to write delay is now 8 when I set it myself I had it set to 7 and the dimm fine clock delays now are tighter then what they were when I had set the settings my self.. and the row refresh cycle time I had set to 50 before but, with auto it is 52. I find this odd but it is a good thing for me I guess maybe some one else can see if this happens to them as well. I tested for stability and it is still stable as it was as well..,
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/2302/whatnl7.th.jpg
Yup, seems this board has a mind of its own :D I have set all ram parameters and gotten a lower score that way, now I only set the major four and leave it be. Pretty happy with the setup now, no need for change. Nice price on your chip, it should go fast. :)
Larry
I figure if aome one has a good watercooling setup they can push it further then me.
So what things in bios cause a drop in performance or a big drop in performance?
PL timings? CLK Skews (Delay? Advance?) That 55 timing you put on on one of the timing options?
I upped the voltage on my E8500 to 1.38V 4050Mhz and I've passed blend so far at 3 hours 23mins 54 seconds, wish I never had to leave it for 8-12 hours I want to try refine the settings and lower voltage..
I set the pl to 8 myself, didn't touch clock skews, I left everything on auto and wualah, everything is alot snappier now. My guess is because Ket put those new tables in the bios for me and my table must have been included. It loosened a few see above for the details and made the fine timing delays tighter by itself.
Tried this bios 1306 and workd great ;)
Timings wise yes, besides the norm 5-5-5-15 everything else is set to auto and I get an increase in latency by 2.3ns yep.
Edit: Hell I bet I can hit the 49ns's if I pump 2.4v through the memory and crank it up to a 266 strap again.
Its not surprising. I discussed this some time ago with various people, tighter does not always mean better. Stressing components too much can produce lesser results than relaxing things a tad. Following screen is my results with my E4400 @ 3.3GHz, not too bad. Trying to get my CPUs FSB wall stable (425).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/bizket/33GHz.jpg
So using FSB strap and pumping voltage gives a lower latency? Or I guess it basically just overclocks the ram?
If I let Orthos blend test go on for 5 hours is that stable enough to start going tinkering settings possibly trying to lower voltage and all that? 12 hours repeated is a nightmare.
What settings are you guys running to get 4.1ghz or better? Of a E8500 and what version of the bios
I have a P5Q with 4 gigs of PC8500 G skills and a E8500 with a custom water cooling kits on the way, want to know what bios and settings to get it stable over 4ghz for 24/7
I can't wait to be in the 4ghz + club :)
^^ waiting to get it from the egg
Anyone any idea how I can stabilise Core 1? Is the only way more voltage?
4.2Ghz and 1.424V the first core is going strong in prime blend test for almost 8 hours yet first core failed in 1 hour 11 mins :\
Can you run 4GHz stable @ 1.42v?
I know that wasn't directed towards me but thanks for the tip.
I'm having a not-so-fun time with this pos E. I'm at 4ghz 1.440v (after vdrop/droop LLC disabled) PL of 12:confused:, all pullins disabled and insane PLL of 1.58v, nbV of 1.3v.
Anything less on any of these values and it's crash city.
Hi, yes 4Ghz is stable at 1.42V
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ursfinally.jpg
1.34V actually, but I want to push the FSB and 500fsb causes blend to fail all the time.
My ram cant be the problem, ram is at 2.04V, was under 1066Mhz and 5-5-5-15, stock is 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.0-2.1V.
Its G.Skill PC8500.
I was running prime and adjusted the second core GTL to like 0.7+ and it still failed, dont want to go too high dont want to damage anything.
What will 10K FFT's do? if it fails with standard surely that means instability?
In another thread related to this mobo I posted my voltages and other ram settings, have a try with them.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...3&postcount=22
Do you know where your CPU tops out for frequency? If not I would run a high multi to establish your max frequency first and to rule out any FSB wall. If you can't run 4.2GHz with a lower FSB and higher multi, you know your CPU can't do 4.2GHz. That is, unless your willing to push on toward 1.5v.
Well I am at 9 multi atm as I'd rather have 470fsb rather than 445 fsb, but it seems equally as stable/unstable at 9.5 and 9.
I upped the GTL ref for the CPU to 0.700, I'll try prime again soon. I've ran memtet for ages now and it got one error at the start but thats it, does that mean lots of instability? Have I done enough memtest yet?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ub/memtest.jpg
Any specific reason for 3 different values in HCI memtest ?
