Yes we could do everything we want, the problem is we don't want to, specially when stability, heat, money, etc. is involved. Well, the alternative is there, but users with a bit of intelligence will not buy those mobos.

Crossfire doens't need an extra chip on the motherboard right ?
It's right there on the card itself?
Folks, that statement is a pretty important one to notice. Thanks to Helmore for pointing it out
I was doing research on this last winter, after a heads up from some contact and I found that a lot of websites in google search does not make clear of this fact.
Can anybody say what waterblocks will fit for X58 chip?

ooo purdy :) .. But I'm a little concerned about the back plate for the socket holder thingy ... doesn't look like that's coming off. Going to need new back plates for all the heatsinks for sure.
looks sexy!
O,Oh, what if they intended the heatspreader of the new CPUs not to protrude from the socket holding bracket like 775 did, but rather to be indented!?
That would be chaos in waterblock world... o_O
The NB cooling is whacko compared to what we normally see from ASUS.

Hmm this is different O__O

Power and reset buttons!
Nice!
Hang on... help me .. I'm confused here :)
X58.. basically Nvidia ain't present. Some expensive mobos have that extra chipset, and you gety SLI, but you get short changed and castrated with 8x/8x PCI-E lanes? And tri-SLI is a thing of the past too?
Damn.. I actually like Nvidia video cards...
Yes.. Skulltrail did that, but its still regular SLI.
Say goodbye to Nvidia performance leadership, unless its a quad-SLI style platform.
As it is the 4870 X2 Crossfired whips the regular GTX280 SLI's butt.
I see lots of people rejoicing that Nvidia's gotten their asses burnt. I've had every generation in SLI of Nvidia and 3Dfx card ever released lol :)

Floppy Support, okden AH makes me sick...
and the floppy lives!!!:worship:
:buddies: ...see that one on the left? tha's my floppy:D..for sentimental reasons of course.
so, related to the 'unusual' nb cooler, is it a 'hot' nb or what? relative to existing p45/x48 nb's?
As soon as a X58 motherboard and Intel's Nehalem CPU is available in the UK I'm going to jump straight in and buy. Also going to get 3 x 1GB DDR3 sticks to go with it.
I need to get involved with the latest tech at some point and my financial situation permits that this year :)
Anybody knows if a "WS Professional" Version with PCI-X will be available ?
I don't think even current ASUS WS boards have PCI-X. It's all PCI-E now.
You'll have to look towards vendors like Supermicro or Tyan for such boards.
srsly... the slot arangement on this board sucks... if you use cf/(sli) you cant use any other card...
where's IDE? I see floppy but no IDE...
next to the sata ports ;)
I dont like the layout.
Having soo many RAM slots on a desktop board is a bit ridiculous. The vast majority of high-end power users and gamers will have 3 x 1GB or 3 x 2GB RAM, so why not use just 3 slots and save a load of space
I've seen some questions about the NB cooling. There is no NB anymore. The NB went away along with the FSB. The memory controller is on the CPU now.
This board is the Super OC'er of the universe. I have not found any other board that has naything remotely close to 16 phase power.
What I want to see is the max clocks this thing has done at -120C. Somebody has already done this I know.
Aw, and I don;t wanna hear NDA anymore. If somebody is under NDA please tell Intel "Enough Already!". It's less than a month from release and all we have is sketchy data. There is always something missing that would show what this thing is capable of.
This is the board they were using when they ran that Chip at 120 sub zero. Where's the benches? It's like a standoff here. It's time to cut loose and let the numbers fly. It's not like there is any competition that could capitalize on any info at all. I'm hoping there's not a problem here.
I'm a pretty big Intel fan, and I'm especially a fan of these new Nehalem CPU's, but I'm starting to wonder if something has gone terribly wrong, and so are others. If they don't soon release something they might start losing customers.
just wait for 4GB sticks of DDR3 and run 24GB!!!!
That would be bigger than the hard drive in my first laptop

ASUS P6T Deluxe OC Palm Edition Spotted
To support the upcoming LGA-1366 socket Core i7 processors, motherboard manufacturers have their first-waves of motherboards ready. ASUS for one, has had its P6T Deluxe pictured before several of its competitors could have their flagship motherboards pictured on the internet. Enter P6T Deluxe OC Palm Edition. What's new with this motherboard is that it bundles a gadget ASUS calls an "OC Palm", looking at its visual similarity to hand-held PCs. The device holds controls apart from an LCD screen. What this gadget does is, that it allows you on-the-fly overclocking of several system parameters for which, you would have had to use the system BIOS configuration. The device is handled by software that does the changes, it connects to the motherboard using standard USB interface, and the LCD screen gives the convenience of overclocking even when say playing a game. That apart, the package gives you essentially the same P6T Deluxe motherboard.

Nice :D Is the price of the motherboard mentioned anywhere?
I hope Bloomfield delivers, i have this mixed up feeling about it.
They left out one thing. How much? How many US Dollars is this thing gonna cost? :)
Aw, and I noticed the pink was gone too. Good move. :yepp:
I really think about buying this mobo but the pci exp. slots are problem. Cuz 1 is below the pci-e slot & the other is too close to vga-card, it may occur air circulation problem in order 2 use my skystar & creative cards. I need them both it might be ok if i use the second pci-e slot. Does anyone know these pci-e slots work at 16x ?
So you must buy a soundcard which fits in the pci slot underneat?
Probably comes with the Asus sound card. If it's like their other ROG boards, that PCI-E x1 slot up top is useless for anything else. You can use other sound cards, but you still don't get back that first slot.
Okay here is my problem.... I currently have 4 Gigs of Crucial Ballistix, actually 2 sets of these...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148146...
How in the name of god I'm going to be able to use them with a Corei7/Bloomfield combination? My current mem works at 1600 at 1.8V....
My other question, as a noob... if now we have 3 Channels of Ram in Bloomfield, would I still be able to run Dual Channel in this Mobo? Like installing 4 sticks and leave the remaining 2 other mem sockets alone....
I suggest undervolting/ underclocking your RAM until we have more knowledge on the issue. Better safe than sorry, I wouldnt risk it so soon.
I have no concrete info, but dual channel likely works like you said. But why not running 3x 2Gb sticks in tri-channel ? Do you really need the extra 2Gb going with an lower bandwidth ?
Nope. It's already been posted by opeople who work at Intel that it's a non issue. There is a workaround and we'll have to wait for info until after the NDA lift date is lifted and the NDA is lifted. hehe
The workaround is at rthe users own risk, but if you OC your already at your own risk as wirth all CPU's. It's been stated that boards have tricks in the BIOS to get around this issue. We don't know which boards have this, or what options they are...that is under NDNDA still.
See above. We're all playing the "hurry up and wait" game. Hope the wait is over soon, becasue this is getting rediculous. I'm about ready to jump ship on the i7 and go with a Q9550 if this thing is not out by week 2 November. This thing has been drug out and hyped for over a year now, and it's still under NDA. Personally I cannot wait any longer. I put a build off for over a year now on this thing and it still has not materialized. The boards are aboviously here now and the RAM is here now. I don't know what this standoff is all about.
I've been real patient with this release up until a week ago, but it's like official info has dried up, and I'm wondering what the problem is. We don't know if there is a problem or when we'll ever see this thing released. If this was just a game box I wouldn't worry, but I have work to get done, and need multicore. I needed it a year ago. I really hope they release something soon before people like me start jumping ship and going forward with their builds.
The silence is deafening, and the rumors mills like Inquirer and Fud are just ruining them with the BS they are spewing. I'm really floored they ahve not released at least some info on how this thing works, and when it will be released. I know people can't put their work on hold based on guesses when or if this thing will ever be released. I have almost no hair left after pulling it out trying to get straight answers on this CPU.
those sticks should run just fine. Tony from OCZ has said there's a chance that Nehalem won't take as much voltage at a given memory speed to hold it stable, although he doesn't have anything to play with so it's an educated guess on his part (and he's rather educated on the mater:p:).
Now there also is a chance that you will have to run at 1.8v on the memory to hit the rated timings/speed. If so there are most likely safe motherboard settings that allow knowledgeable users to run with that kinda memory voltage 24/7 as hinted by anandtech a bit ago.
Finally, you may just even be better off dropping down to 1333MHz and running cas 6.
as for populating channels, you have a few choices.
-You can pick the best 3 of the 4 and run just 3 of them.
-you could get a 3rd kit and run 6GB
-you can place all 4 in, and have 1/4th of your memory not running interleaved, I'm unsure how this works, but I believe that last GB would be placed at the "end" of the addressable space and not be broken into often.
FYI, I was in the Microcenter in Dallas today and the P6T was on the shelf. $349.99, however they do not have any chips in yet.
