Man... its going to be a good meet once again :D
Change of Airline means I will be there @ Airport by 11:50AM.
Great George, i'll enjoy a few cold ones with you too :D
yes (unless one pot can contact both X2 cores)...but the X2 is not part of the competition...i just want to make sure my new blocks work with the X2's as well as the 4850's.
i will have an X2 this weekend to check out all the surface components to be avoided by the blocks.
also i should be able to post a workable design up for everyone to be able to make
you are right in P45 OC contest, but what are you planed for Freestyle contest ? can we use our P45 OC contest in freestyle ? I need corsair Dominator memory from the first contest.
as I understand, they are different and I should build different pots for them. is it true ?Quote:

if i recall all the kit from the p45 oc contest will be available for the freestyle event as well...also you may contact GB if there is anything special you need for the freestyle event.
the blocks i'm designing now will work for most cards...recent nvidia ones, ati ones, crossfire if you have two of them...and will also fit the X2 (possibly a separate holddown will be needed for the X2).
they will not fit with SLI if the slots have only one empty slot between the cards...they are too big to fit tri-sli
i will post full design pictures in a short while...hopefully some constructive comments from the top guns here can be put to good use
ok here is the design...any and all comments welcome...please bare in mind this is not yet final as we'll only be checking the naked X2 this weekend.
i'm not wild about the mounting design but it should work and we couldn't think of something better while still getting as much mass in.
surface area is over 150cm2 and for a modern gpu block it will be heavy.
the holddown for the X2 is not ready and may not be needed at all...it depends what might be in the way on the X2 pcb.
why you don't want to use default Base hold down ? in this picture shows that it seems enough strong ( picture dedicated to 4850)
Going to be a blast, its surely going to be fun guys
ARH - i can't see your link
that holdown on the drawing sits between the block and the card....there is no backplate
the idea is to not have to remachine the block every time someone changes mounting hole spacings
it has been dry ice tested on an 8800ultra but i think this block will have to be narrowed to miss the capacitor on the standard 4850:
can anyone get the dimension indicated in the pic (horizontal distance between the centre of the mount bolt and the edge of the capacitor indicated)...scuze the quality :P
Russia also will be there :)

An article from the Swedish final:
http://www.techsweden.org/index.php?view=IEOLBJ
It's in swedish, but many pictures.
The contest was to overclock an QX9650 as high as possible and verify the "stabilty" with Pi 4M (The time don't matter).
Going to be a blast, and i can see Razzz also was at the place where the final competition round was hold
Time to go push it guys soon ;)
Nice event, but 5k doesn't pay even the flight ticket...They realy assumes overclockers sux w/ this.... any other world sport competition prize it's a lot higher... An its not related w/ bilionaire hardware brands like gigabyte, Intel and corsair...
Rise the price!
It's not like you'll have to pay for the flight and hotel yourself. $5K USD isn't exactly bad when you can do whatever you want with it. Not that everyone will receive that kind of money, but the worst thing that can happen is that you get a nice, paid experience. :)
do you sure that your card will not hurt without backplate ? why you wont use default backplate of the aircooler. (shown in the attachment)
seems no one have a 4850 card in this topic to help us for designing precise pot. I can access the one but at least in the weekend.
Looks like it's gonna be me and FUGGER for the second USA team :D
why usa has 2nd Team and other coutry not? :D:D
yes...i've not used a backplate on a gpu for years so i know its ok...but sure it looks like it will fit fine so it can work.
looking foreward to the dimms :)Quote:

Hong Kong's qualifying round will start at 30/8... soon i will be confirming to go. XD
Be my team having no advantage on the qualifying round since only watercooling is allowed and low temp. CPU seems to be the best for the qualifying which i don't have. I will do my best to make myself joining you guys party in TW
me and tosunermc will be there, hope to meet all of you guys :)
Hey guys,
Nick and I will be there once again working on The Overclocker. We'll be sure to find out who has the amusing last names (we love ya, no really, we do), who can talks the fastest, who can avoid talking about pink bits, who likes tweaked nipples and all loads of silly stuff that tends to happen while 'on tour'.
For those of you that haven't met me before, I'm the lucky fellow below ;)

I got my flight tickets, I'll arrive to Taipei 24th of September around 6 pm.
you have good eyes gautam :D....Quote:

looks like we wont be using 4850, its 4870 ref card now....
LOL dubble post or something like that :D
Any news about this competition in Romania? :)
Lol guys, and moloko is good fellow :)
1.time and me, Victor and CD-Key will go to Taiwan, hahah
CHINA's qualifying round just be finished yesterday,and i got 2nd this time:D
congrats...i remember your bench table from HK for being totally neat even with the rest of us making a huge mess...i'll try to emulate your tidyness this time since it clearly made a big difference :D
Yeah... can some1 clear what GFX are we finally using for Compy??
EDIT: Josh, I am sure many guys here envy you :D
i checked with GB....the cards are switched to 4870 CF for the competition according to them.
hmmmm....not very clever to change cards so late...i hope they don't change their minds again
congrats to Deanzo on last night's win
me and Dean had to go to extra round and he took it out.........
first round was great with me and Dean trading shots after i changed to a new board as my first one died separating us by 0.400s at final time............2m00.3s vs 1m59.9s
second round deanzo had to back off more than me on 4 cores and i took 3DMARK06 with about 22140 point score with a GTX280 on air.................deanzo did 212xx i think in the end
extra time was supposed to be 3DMARK01 but the file we had was corrupt so we went to 4M SuperPi instead....my machine could not boot to windows.........just couldn't get it going.......when i did it was at some supermediocre clocks.....board had enough for the night i think hehehe .....it was an up and down night for both of us  hheheheh.............shame we couldn't battle it out in the end but it really didn't matter....we had a lot of fun and finally put a name to a face....great event by Gigabyte once again
Team.ANZ(Australia&NewZealand) will see you all in Taiwan in September :D
went to a few places to drink up a bit.......had a snack to eat and noticed an unusual sign hehehehe

Hicookie - any confirmation on the gpu's?...also maybe you have a pcb design for this 4850X2?
As far as i know, the card will change from HD4850 CF to HD4870 CF.. wait for official confirmation from GB
Dinos22, dude that club looks alright., If i went i would have to be pulled from the club as i would never want to leave :p:
Thanks mate,
It was great to meet you along with kayl, hicookie, Josh, Lili (Gigabyte), Eric (Western Digital), Nick and all the guys from Atomic (I wont name you all, just in case I miss someone :))
Oh, and the two hot Gigabyte girls
I had alot of fun (Gigabyte really looked after us, big thanks Lili, your the best), and am really looking forward to Taipei.
Yep :D,Quote:

Congrats to you Deanzo and Dinos22, looking forward to meet you in Taipei.
heh
yeah let's wait for next week for final confirmation but one thing is for sure
it will be ATI heheheheh
time to learn how to OC with ATI i guess hahahah
:clap:Hong Kong - Lok and Tat is coming
Congrats Lok & Tat.
See you guys in Taiwan :)
congrats team anti-x.... looks like we'll meet again in taipei :D
I was thinking about the power-line wich is 125 volt in taipei,
All my tools ( solder iron, hot glue gun, hot air gun) work @ 220 volt , i think is the same for most of people.
How is possible to solve it ? any chance to get there an inverter ( 125 to 220) ?
Check this slide giorgio, it gives you the info on Taiwan power - 3-pin Type B
http://flytek.effectivehosting.co.za...egulations.jpg
adapter is only a part of the questions, All the European guys are in 220V, and U.S.A and america in general use 110V... Taipei is 125V....
The problems isn't about the power plugs but the 125 -> 220V power :D
found solution, bought 2 of those:
http://www.fratellidelpiano.com/images/img/45FV.gif
is not just an adapter but a power converter, and is good for 50 watt, wich is enough for solder iron and hot glue gun :)
I'm hoping to update my status from media to media/overclocker :)
Today i just talking with GB person, they said it's 100% confirmed we will use HD4870 (reference card) in CF mode. They will release the new rule today.
Ohh so 2 * 4870s now??
Those converters can be bought from most electronic shops in Taiwan FYI
GB already changing the VGA spec. on GOOC site. But the funny thing, picture shown still HD4850 and the detail info is HD4870 with GDDR3 memory. :D
info on gigabyte website said GDDR3
But box said GDDR5
http://www.gigabyte.fr/FileList/Imag...512h-b_big.jpg
maaaaaaaaaaaaaan i hate the fact we are going to use quads
it would have been so much better if they used E8600 CPUs but i guess that's what they've decided :(
lol
hey hicookie
can you confirm if they will be GDDR3 or GDDR5 cards
reference or non-reference design
btw can you beat someone up who decided to pick QX9650 CPUs lol
we got no chance to break any records whatsoever with those things lol................why not go E8600....we could have been benching at 6GHz+ easy...would have been more exciting hehehehe
Is the freestyle event only for "Global" WR's, or are "Hardware" WR's counted and score points ?
