I have the same batch. I have mine stable at 450x9 with 1.28V/1.26V(Vcore/VTT) full load.

guys its not my cpu/tweaking.. its not my first GTL settings mobo.. :)
right now its in even worse shape.. cant even boot @ os @ 3600 450x8 only 400x9
why does the cpu run rock stable @ 4050 450x9 on the dfi dk x48t2rsb+ ? albeit @ .05 higher vcore than on mars but without any GTL tweaking
anyways.. ill be getting another blackops.. hope not all blackops are the same as this one :)
Hi, I'm a new member from Italy! How far do you think I can push this CPU with my PC setup?
Case: Cooler Master Stacker | PSU: Hiper HPU-5B880 880W | CPU: Q9650 Cooled By Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme | MoBo: Asus Rampage Extreme | RAM: 4 GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator @ 1600 Mhz | GFX: Sapphire ATI HD 4870 X2 | HDD: Velociraptor 300 GB + 2x Seagate 7200.11 750 GB | Monitor: Samsung 2493HM | Keyboard: G15 Mouse: G9 OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit
Thanks in advance for any suggestion ^_^!

4Ghz+
*puts away his crystal ball*
But seriously... no one can tell in advance. It all depends on the quality of the chip and the quality of the person that overclocks :)
Eheheh :D. Chip batch is L822B348, pack date is 08/13/2008...hope to get good results :D.
i got mine today, im currently at 4ghz, it primes ok, but wont do 3dmark as yet, i've tried dropping my memory down, 1.37cpu/1.28vtt, i havnt played with the glt setting as yet, still looking for more info, dose anybody have a good starting point?
Andrew
Here's my crystal ball :D:

Do you think I can go for 450 without any problems?
'Tis more than possible that auto values in DFI bios are higher than blackops, and actually, that's what I'd point a finger at(i think Ace-A_Rue agrees with me:shrug:). This is why you must never overclock on auto settings...how can you know what's wrong, if you do not know what's set?
This is not a slant directed at you, but at mobo makers. The whole label of "AUTO" should no be so...it creates more confusion than is needed! If you knew GTL values of both boards, and that they were the same(personal experience from overclocking the boards myself tells me that they are not), maybe you could sort the issue.
Read-to-write delay is also quite tight on this board, and affects ram clocks, so much so that my ram is NOT stable @ jedec timings, because the board ignores some SPD info.
My vid is 1.25 as well...I haave no issues running the CPU at stock speeds with 1.8 though...I got it to 460 on my Maximus II Formula and it hit 500 on the DFI P45 Dark Plus...I'm in the process of setting that board up in my case and theen I will work on it thoroughly for stability...I prefer it over the Maximus II Formula hands down by the way.
i hit 500 FSB on the Biostar TPower I45 and it was functional but herky-jerky with the benches.
Was wondering if anyone needed to adjust the CPU Clock Skew to reach 4GHz? Don't seem to see any mention of it in quad o'cing unlike the dualcores.
Good morning guys, yesterday I eventually came to a:
- FSB 400
- 9x
- V.Core 1.30
- V.Dram 2.0
- Ram Frequency: 1600 Mhz with 1:2 divisor
- Timings: 7-7-7-20
- All the rest on [auto]
Which settings should I work on to get to a stable FSB 450 x9? What about VTT and GTL? Any suggestion on those and on the motherboard's tensions? VID is 1.2500V, batch L822B348, pack date 08/13/2008.
Thanks :)!
Can anyone reach 500 FSB? It would be great to see 500x8 clock.
Anyone can take a guesstimate on the aprox. LOAD of this Q9650 at 1.6vcore/4400mhz?
Anybody has reports of L822B348 batch being unstable @ 450x9 FSB?
Batch # L820B036

Hi,
This is the max I can get stable on air (hits 78C on dual orthos load), but to be honest I only got there last night so I have only run orthos for an hour, the night before I just went to 4.275gig and I ran orthos for 2 hours stable but am having some problems with my board/memory ATM so things are a bit hit and miss!
Anyone know why my realtemps isnt sensing core's 2 and 3?
Thanks
Little offtopic: I got same issue Tatty one ! http://img359.imageshack.us/my.php?i...psissuehh6.jpg Core #2 n #3 wont go lower than 40c ???
Sorry...wrong Thread
Got some new memory to sort out my motherboard issues, this has helped me to get here, I stress this was a deathrun to push my board to the limits and is not orthos stable whatsoever, thanks to all the contributoirs here, I picked up a number of tips to help me on my way!
my q9650 VID is 1.2375
BATCH :L820A924 -- 07/31/08

im able to system boot @ 4.6 ghz 511x9 but since 1.45vtt is the max it hinders any further oc.. just got this dfi p35 and idk all the ins/outs of it yet..
looking back @ mars the vregulators are incredible on that mobo
later today ill test the cpu on the giga dq6 p45..
So I am seeing a lot of folks above the recommended vcore and VTT settings of 1.41v vcore and 1.45vtt. Does this mean that those recommended limits have been debunked? I have a QX9650, essientially the same as a Q9650 with adjustable multi and diff stepping, but the voltage limits should be the same across all 45nm quads. Any thoughts?
1.4vcore above recommended?? im below that :D
easy breezy.. it doesnt get any easier than this

EP45 DQ6   awesome mobo!
same q9650/ifx14
And now some action NapalmV5... SS are nice, I want to see that thing work !!
I dont run my CPU above 1.4V except for the odd 5 minute bench, when I did that 4.45 run I actually didnt know how many Volts it would take so over volted to be on the safe side, I did a 2006 run yesteday at 4.3gig on 1.375V (BIOS) ....1.36 (real) and she got through it OK, seems to be these chips get better as they "loosten" up.
I can boot to windows at 4.5gig, have not tried anymore than that....too scared, as I am on air the temps are getting a bit toasty in Orthos at that speed
i guess everythings just a ss.. :)
so far 4 x memtest instances stable
cpuz vcore @ 1.328-1.344

wow 500 FSB, nice ! Great chip!
That's friggin amazing that you are over the 475Mhz FSB wall and then going past 500Mhz with a quad, simply amazing. I am assuming you are not using any exotic cooling like phase change or LN. Anyway, what is your VTT voltage set at and what GTL references are you using? I may try to push my chip this week since I haven't really done it yet.
Thanks,
Utnorris
WaterFlex - thanks :)
Utnorris - thanks.. oh ive stated several times air/ifx14 cooling.. no water/phase/ln2
what vtt? forget about it.. you guys wanna faint/end up in the er? :) lol
no gtl tweaking whatsoever.. may play around with gtl to os boot @ 4.7ghz
just listen to your cpu.. itll let you know what it needs/craves :)
hmmm seriously though, whats your VTT i would like to know what to do about mine and a little 4.4 ghz benching :D
Q9650 500x9! It is my dream:rolleyes:
andressergio - thanks :)
SNiiPE_DoGG - lol lets just say it is higher than the "recommended vtt" :)
runs 3dmarks without a hitch @ 500x9
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...69&postcount=9
Nice to see 500FSB becoming not so hard like before :D
Napalm......VERY nice, I see I need to do a little more, havent played with Vtt's yet, just left it on auto, maybe I will raise a bit to lower VCore a bit (hopefully).
thanks tatty and good luck.. wish you 4.5ghz steady aswell
system specs:
Q9650
EP45 DQ6
Mushkin 4GB 1066
4870 1GB @ 850/950
Areca ARC1210/Raptors
Silverstone OP1000
even @ 4GB just as stable
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6779/4gbct9.jpg
i did os boot @ 4.7ghz/no gtl settings but no ss.. nonetheless will be enjoying this stable 4.5ghz for some time.. or at least until the next mobo.. :)
good luck guys!
:p: You need a GTX260 :yepp:.....and that one was just at 4gig.
wow NapalmV5 all that on a Giga?! Amazing results!
Can't wait to get my system hooked up and see the Q9650 limits. But quite frankly I think your most likely at the very top.
Well done!
Actually, what he needs to do is add another 4870 or trade that 4870 for a 4870x2, :D
i got onr of these puppies coming at me from NewEgg . will be here wedsday (I hope) i'll post the batch # when i get it can't wait , my 9450 is a dog , the QX9770 is way cool
Tatty_One - oh i wanted a 280GTX.. waiting on the new 280GTX
Jor3lBR - thanks :)
Utnorris - yeh but the issues associated with multi gpu cards is whats keeping me away..
-
heres that 4.7GHz.. same everything..

more than just a ss :)
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2694/33es3.jpg
how i got to 4.7? patience..
cpu wants to go even higher but this is the end of the road for the mobo on air.. :(
btw if you guys are wondering what air? not ac cold air or anything like that.. just a 71 F ambient
4.75GHz.. maybe i was wrong on the mobo end of road..
pumping more vcore now..
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9043/4750ls5.jpg
going for 4.8GHz
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4982/4800es0.jpg
im gonna stop here.. dont want to pump more than 1.5vcore on air or at least until i get a better cooler
thats very impressive dude, what board are you using?
i cant even get mine 3d stable at 3.6, its doing my head in.
Andrew
thanks.. giga ep45 dq6
:eek2:NapalmV5
:sofa: tooooo much fsb for quad! Great job !
funny that is, i was looking at that board last night and trying to convince myself not to spend more money on my pc. how are the bios settings in these? eaiser than a DFI x48. as i think im in over my head, just too many settings for somebody who really dosnt have time to play with them all. i did have my q6600 at 3.6 stable on this board but the q9650 really dosnt like anything i throw at it.
Andrew
WaterFlex - its about time quads do high fsb aswell.. :)
terroristone - x38/x48 are the worst chipsets.. unless you ln2 the chipset to hell youre not gonna get much out of it.. theyre more suitable for unlocked cpus..
youre best bet are the p35/p45 mobos and are the fastest
thanks for convincing me. i know im getting off topic here but it will change my input into this thread if all goes right, What board should i look at, i was thinking the dfi p45 but theya re only 4 phase power....
Andrew
hard to say which are the best p45 mobos.. this is my first p45 not much experience

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3237/4850te3.jpg
4.9GHz ??
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/1844/4900eo3.jpg
i better stop before i kill/destroy smtg
545!!! It IS IMPOSSIBLE !
I have MIIF! I HAVE P45. But i have no money for Q9650 !
Is it under water?
I would stop at 500x8 or 500x9!
you'd probably stop before 2.0v VTT, too. Nice, Napalm!
cadaveca - thanks.. lol 2.0vtt ? yikes.. still got some headroom ~2.0vtt..
WaterFlex - if water i wouldve stated so.. its the very same ifx14/fans cooling.. nothing changed.. just raised vcore and a bit of vtt.. you can see the temps going higher
guys, is there a better cooler available right now than the ifx14? im waiting on the copper true.. but whats the best out there right now
I don't care to pay attention much to air cooling...now, if you can get 545 FSB...you MUST be able to get 525-530 stable...WTF.:shakes:
NapalmV5
Make 500x9 stable! It would be fantastic and great !
Napalm, you have to be the luckiest guy I know, go buy some lottery tickets. Amazing FSB you are getting on a quad, regardless if it is air, water or LN. Just amazing. If I were you I would sell that chip for a couple of grand. I am sure you would get it. Can someone please confirm that they can hit 500FSB with a quad?
Thanks,
Utnorris
4,1GHz will be no problem with his Q9650 und P45-DQ6 ;)
About 2 hours Prime with my Q9650@4,4GHz.
Really want to kick him but i need this CPU longer :)
http://www.abload.de/img/441376-3gbx.jpg
Currently the Foxconn ELA board is available and has 16x16 and 8x8x8 crossfire w/ p45 chipset, in the coming weeks we should see the Foxconn P45 Avenger which will be ddr3, and 16x16 and 8x8x8 CF and will be quantum force :D:D:D (I will get this one for sure ;), anyone wanna buy my ram and DFI x38???)
no clockgen.. all clocks/voltages set @ bios.. and still no gtl tweaking not yet anyways..

NapalmV5
You have amazing chip! 500x9 clock is great. But i can`t believe it`s on air...
He's got and older version of realtemp there so tjmax may be off 5 degrees but from what I see this is not a real hot running quad. This is cooled by TRUE + ultrakaze...
http://lakesidepc.com/27596.JPG
I want a +4.0GHz quad so bad but I don't think my Q9450 has it in her. Maybe that will change when my P45 board gets here :yepp:
got mine up & running on the test bed + Asus R/F mobo + DD TDX water block + GTX360 rad stock cooling there after
running stock @ 3 GHz = prime 95
temps under load are 36,32,32,33 real temp,
idle 24,22,23,28
room temp ambiant 24.8
water temp coming off cpu is 26.1 into pump then rad
batch l825b323 pack date 9-3-08
core voltage in CPUZ 1.184
tests of sensors in realtemp show
core 0=7
core 1=5
core2=7
core3=1
think I got a stuck sensor as that core is runnig hot compared to the others gonna reset the water block tomorrow & if it don't change think i'm gonna RMA it .. while i still can back to Egg
set the bus speed to 450 & the FSB came up 1800 @4 GHz every thing but the mem timing on auto but not stable in prime
loonym - indeed 5 average higher @ coretemp
look guys i didnt come/post here to increase my chips value to 2 grand as it has been mentioned.. nor do i intent to sell it why would i wanna do that..
anyways.. was just sharing with you guys a classic oc every step of the of the way: patience/trials/perseverance/brute force all on air.. have been ocing for almost 10 years now.. just cause im not breaking records or better known/trusted like others here.. doesnt mean idk how to oc/am posting fakes
as soon as ill get another cpu.. its the only one i got at the moment.. ill slap on the vapoLS and show you guys even higher clocks ;)
2 x YSTech 7.92w + video + psu total fans
i got these fans like 7 years ago if not longer

NapalmV5
You`re the luckiest overclocker ever.
I'll be getting a 9650 very soon because of this thread. thanks to everyone who contributed.
A little OT... but Napalm, what kind of mod is that on your ATI? What kind of gains did you get from it? Thanks.
Wow Napalm....congrats! i really do need to start playing, what Vtt are you using assuming that is helping to keep the VCore requirements down? I must admit I have never played with this before so I am just gonna set mine to 0.613 or whatever it is and take it from there!
idk about lucky.. getting a good chip is the lucky part if you cant pick and choose
nugzo - no oc gain.. though there may be some nice gains on the 4850 cards
Tatty_One - 560x9/5040 highest system boot ive tried so far using the same voltages @ 4.9ghz os boot.. so yeh you guys gotta push harder if you want higher clocks :)
once you guys push harder youll find out what voltages your cpu likes
1.28 vcore is what it came back as when set on auto , if remember right i was burnt out from work last nite when i ran the 1st OC & will not have time to mess with the Q9650 till tonite after work agin (gonna keep a log of all the setting I use next time i start OC'in')
@Napalm can you post yer settings that u have been using . gives some of us a starting point
d/l'ed the newest realtemp (2.79.7) & checked the testing of movement of sensors this morning & got (all this at stock settings in bios )
core0 = 8
core1 = 5
core2 = 8
core3 = 0
think I should RMA it back to the EGG ??
temps at idle 24,22,21,33 ambiant@20.7 cores # 's 0,1,2 show movement but core # 3 stays at 33 always NO movement on that core
Bigslappy, my cores are very different in idle too.. But under load i have a max. difference of 3°C.
Idle

idk you guys tell me.. prime95 is not my thing.. 2GB ram.. ive ran it again @ tighter mem settings same results.. im running on nlited xp32 and ive removed a lot of stuff.. i do remember smtg about prime @ nlite.. id have to run prime95 on full xp32 version
something else im missing?
vtt is more than the "recommended vtt" and less than 2v
you guys want to napalm your systems/cpus with my voltages? :)
bigslappy - you got a good one
NapalmV5 - I was not implying you came and posted for that reason, so I apologize if that is how you took it. What I was trying to say is that you have a golden chip because:
1 - Your on air and you have low temps.
2 - You are not using much vcore and from what I gather except for the VTT voltage you are not adjusting anything else, which implies that you are not having to tweak much to get the high FSB.
3 - Virtually every post I have read on any Intel quad shows a FSB wall of around 475FSB unless going with something better than air.
4 - You are using mainstream boards to do your testing, not extreme boards like the Maximus II.
I am glad you are able to get your chip to such heights. What I am trying to figure out is whether it is the chip, the chipset or some setting you are using that the rest of the overclocking world is missing. This is why people have asked for you to post your settings time and time again. What I would love is for someone to be able to duplicate the results, but I haven't seen that yet. Please, just post your settings so that someone here can try and duplicate what you are achieving.
Am I skeptical? Sure I am and everyone here should be untill others have the same success. Am I doubting your integrity or skill? Not at all. I just think you have a golden chip and the results will not be duplicated by anyone else.
Utnorris
i didnt mean you.. my wording not so great.. was just referring to what you said.. its all cool
ive taken it up to 560x9 5040mhz of course just a system boot not os on air
how do you know im not adjusting anything else ? :) maybe i am ;)
ill let the good/veteran overclockers tell you guys what im doing.. :D they know what im doing
time will prove me.. dont worry guys ill surely wont be the only one @ these clocks
Please don't be so elitist and share with the others so that they may benefit. It's not what you have, but what you do with it...our benching team could benefit, but you are holding out?:stick:
