Well it's intel's compiler,they made it the way it is.Software companies can use other compilers out there,but most firms prefer intel's since it gives the best performance on intel's chips(which are the most spread CPUs on the market).
It would be nice to see a Linux open source test bench application suit(like the one Phoronix use),which could be compiled with best compilers out there for both intel and AMD.Crippling the AMD to less optimized SSE path(as shown before in my previous post) has serious performance effects on AMD's chips.I wonder what paths are used by such apps and games as Lost Planet,FutureMark Vantage,Cinebench etc. when you run them with non-intel CPUID.

No thats just Intel, but of course they can say .. Hey, thats our compiler why optimizing for other brands.

Nevertheless the Intel Compiler and the Dispatcher are one point of the Anti Trust lawsuite against Intel (at least here in europe). But thats becoming very off topic now. Sorry for that.

Well the Athlon 64 and up support SSE2, so AMD should be fine there, UNLESS they're using the Intel compiler. Interesting, I didn't realize there was a difference in the 64 bit implementations. I suppose I could test it; I'm running 4cpus at work (2x Core2 Duo machine) in Windows Server 2003, and have both a Phenom at home running Vista 64 as well as a Athlon 4800 running xp64. I could build something using Visual Studio on both (I don't have a license to Intel, sorry). The question becomes, what would be a good single-threaded open source benchmark to compile..

well this first release eith hates me or they need to update this bios. I can't change NB or HTT with out a hang on boot...I also have to run my ram at 800mhz or I can't OC..wierd...oh well

Preety poor Score :(. For an extra boost scaling is very important and depends on the NB Speed, as far as i figured out NB Speed should be as close to the cores as possible. Final score should be something around 12.000

I set the NB to 2200mhz and my mem back to 1066mhz.... the score was actually less... I ran it three times.. averaged 100points lower.. I wil tighten my mem timings, but don't think it will help..

Win 64 is not liking anything higher then 3.0ghz... now thi better then my ol board where 2.9 was not stable. 3.0ghz has been running all night great. I am going to load vista and try a vantage run at 3.2ghz if i an.

Just made some few test figuring out that Cinebench is very inconsistent in scoring. It all depends on how the cinebench scheduler actually tasks the cores (thats different in every run and you can see it during the test)

So i get scores from 9466 to 10405 with exactly the same Settings which means a delta of 10 %.

Another benchmark not to pay attention to then:p:. Damn, not much left now.

Anyhow, charged, could you try to OC with HTT instead of multiplier? Just curious if the HTT does better now. Also try to run your memory 1:1 and some lower timings, see if if that does better. Ive my doubts regarding performance with Agena+8:3:(. It hardly allows tighter timings than tCL5, unless you get the HTT to 266Mhz and run the RAM 1:1, then it will.

Unless you can pull off ~DDR1200 with 8:3 and HTT of 225Mhz with the tightest timings as possible,8:3 is not worth it IMO.

In short, everyone but me has had good results. :D Some people are getting 200-400MHz increases. I on the other hand didn't move a single MHz. I'm still waiting on some sort of mystery BIOS for my ASUS though, so things may change.

I am under H20 and idle is around 40*c and load is 49*c I dunno why idle is so high.....49 was peek under prime after the past few hours....

I got higher clocks on the old 96BE but I think it was only because I was pushing alot more V's than I'd ever done before, and it turned out not to be stable anyway....

After I swapped it out and put the 9850 in the results were much less pleasing. In fact I can't even get the clocks I was getting on the K9A2 using this Asus.

Just my luck... I had so many problems with the GBT-DS5 that I paid the extra few bucks for the Asus 780GX and now the GBT GX boards are smoking, while I again end up with a POS... :shakes:

I'm like you, pretty sure it's just the "0204" Bios, but trying to find an update seems to be near impossible and Asus tech support is taking an awfully long time to get back with my trouble report... **sigh**

I have a fan cooling the heatsink.. temps are not what they would be. The heat sinks are almost cold to the touh now tho...;) They were pretty warm.

Thats REALLY encouraging that you're getting FSB overclocks like that and not just a multi based one. I'm pretty stoked actually to see that. I got one of those cheapo 8650 tri cores off fleabay (probably fell off the back of a truck, but for 100 clams, who care). I can get 2.8 out of it but it blows up here and there. 2.7 is solid. I thought about getting a tricore just to play with...Would be good to see your results if you get a board...

thanks for the reply sir... i was just concerned about the pwm temp. currently i've been bugged by high temp @ pwm whenever i do prime. if pwm temp is not a problem on this board, i'll definitely grab one when it's available locally. :)

May be it is just me, but 2.7ghz at 1.8v seems pretty good considering that the 2.5ghz stock uses 1.3v

I made to profiles in AOD and can switch between them on the fly. One is 3.0ghz stock 1.3v and 2.7ghz 1.18v. Just thought I'd share if anyone was curious.

Im getting pissed.

Still no sigh of availability of the DFI Lanaprty DK 790FXB-M2RS...

Stupid shop I ordered my Sapphire HD 4870X2 from sucks arse and it only updated it's webshop today that they 'expect' it to have in 2~3 days... Funny part, but at the same time worrying, is that the price went from 413 Euro (which I pre-ordered it for) up to 474 Euro...

So I saved a lot of money there, on the other hand they can 'pretend' they dont have the card yet and let me wait untill I cancel the order... But Ill see, I hope to see it being here wednesday, otherwise Im going nuts big time.

Only a couple of ways. If the mobo instruments for it (with a thermistor connected to something like an ITE 8712 monitor chip), or you can put a thermal sensor on it somewhere (like one of the chokes or on a common heatsink)

There's something strange with that 3DMark CPU score, it is a bit low for a 3.5 GHz Phenom. You got a 400MHz more than me and only 200 points advantage.

My 9950@3.1GHz with 4850CF (15.5X200MHz on a M3A32-MVP, 4GB DDR2-800 Geil)

The system was too hot with those 4850s so now I'm on 280 GTX. (and all temps dropped for a 10-15 C, and Crysis works faster too)

Sorry.. i should have been more clear,.. that 3dmark06 run was 3.3ghz. I can't run 3dmark06 at 3.5...my PSU is dropping volts and is going to die soon... on the 3.3ghz run it was starting to smell.. and I lost a 6.4v 1400 CAP. I replaced it, but the PSU is still not running full strength any more...

Temps here...I like this W/B it works good along with the Tri/Rad, its cools the CPU well.. I read that the apogee is more for dual cores?

well under 3.2ghz with 1.45v it idles very cool. I do have eveything external.. so might be helping.

27C is low as I've been everyonce in a while it hit 26C for a few seconds
