Can't imagine so but you never know!
DFI support in the nederlands as well as Logan and RGone all at least SAY that they do not now about new boards...
Someone in the HardForums pointed out that the foxconn board has been on sale in China already for a couple weeks or so. So yeah I bet it's just waiting on some official launch date with fan fair and banners and whatever.
Anandtech's Gary Key updated his blog with latest 9600BE on SB750 OCing results:
http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=473
He hit 3.1Ghz@1.478V on new Foxconn board, while on SB600 the top he managed was 2.8Ghz.
Max stable with high volts(1.57V) was 3.33Ghz on that 9600BE chip.
So far so good with B2.
Yep I can't wait to see how they stack up with with the TLB fix disabled, they could be AMAZING chips for the price
ok thats great people are getting higher clocks, but what about performance at those higher clocks??
WHERE ARE THEY???
<insert SCREAM>
<insert sound of sobbing like a little girl>
Heck... I'll take some nice shiny new reviews to read that show actual PERFORMANCE at the higher clocks... that would make me happy for a few days.
i think there are no performance hits like looser chipset timings.. but who knows..
Im sure there are however maybe we're speaking about pico seconds or what so ever, nothing significant;)
Now Im back from a 2 week holiday and a little bit sad there's still no SB750 for sale though. Good to see Asus announced a M3A79-T board however Im wondering if they're also planning to get their earlier shown M3A78-T board out as well (that's the RS780D+SB750 combo).
And I hope the most a ROG board however Im afraid if they would release it, it will take a while. Their Intel ROG boards are announced months before the actual release and we've not seen any sign of an AM2+ ROG board yet. Then again I think the Crosshair II was there 'at once' and wasnt announced a long time before the actual release neither so who knows:shrug:
Yeah i get your frustration,i feel the same.IF we are to judge by Asus announcement, then boards from other makers are already being shipped out.
But the main thing is the fact that SB750 is not a marketing gimmick and that it actually works! Many were skeptical about it and that it wouldn't actually get us anywhere, but we see Gary Key reporting even older 9600BE B2 chips hitting as high as 3.3Ghz(with higher volts tho) even though that particular sample wasn't stable @ anything above 2.8Ghz on SB600 based high end motherboard.
Waiting is the worst part :(.
Just reminding myself (and the others:p:) that DFI is almost always "late"
with their offerings, 790fx-M2r was the "almost" part last year.
However it still took a few good months for them to get the BIOS tuned up;)
The way I see it is like this:
they can have it out "early" with "half-baked" BIOS like the M2r was or they will
do the "usual": 2 or so months later, after every other company released their
products. Hopefully a miracle will happen and they'll pop out all their boards
with decent BIOSes in a few days.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. ;)
beginning to think the SB750 is vapour ware :D
vapour ware that can clock like a mofo :D
mmh i dont know. sil will be removed, 6 sata ports will be connected directly to the southbridge and dont forget the 6 magical pins that require direct connection to the cpu.. i think they will have to do some layout rework..
Hmm... my 9600 BE maxed out at 2.8ghz with 1.25v, nothing farther was stable with SB600. Does this mean I have 5 different phenoms that will clock 3ghz+;)
Hope it helps my opty 1356 a bit, I can't get it to do anything over like 215x11.5 completely stable, but at least it only takes 1.2v for that.
I don't understand why Anandtech is the only site to have a preview of the SB750. They can't be the only site that received one to test and I have a hard time believing no other site would like the bajillion hits from everyone trying to find out more information regarding these. I could see maybe a couple days difference if you wanted to tighten up your testing and try a lot of variations or whatever. But it's been longer then that.
Just speculating:
They haven't actually shown any benchmark results. ONLY the overclock speeds. Perhaps there was an NDA and it was worded such that benchmark results must be held but since it didnt' say anything about overclock frequencies anand is showing these.
Most sites would just wait... especially if the official release is in the next few days.
(I know probably a bad guess... but who knows.)
Lets hope we at least have release dates this week.
I'm still hoping for an official release tomorrow... and newegg already having them in stock... and paying the overnight shipping to have it friday. OH YEAH.
Yeah... I know... it was a dream. But monday would be okay also.
I'm just wondering about the 6 pins... I just hope it's not like the 3 sea shells. (Reference to the movie Demolition Man.)
So when was the official release again?
I thought end of july aka 30th of july...
Hey Guys, Thought I'd post this, its from a guy on the hard forum, but it sounds pretty close to whats going on:
"According to this French article, the 790gx boards are scheduled to be released August 6th:
http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/45...om-HD-3300.htm
The reason for the non-existant coverage of 790gx is due to an NDA. There is also corroboration that the release is "early August". See this link:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=14386022
I hope it's not until the middle of next week, but these two completely separate and unrelated links are really pointing in that direction."
Rather dissapointing if true, but logically makes sense since Anandtech was talking about how they were communicating with AMD and Foxconn about BIOs revisions and such and if the second link is indeed true than they are under an NDA.
So unfortunatly we're most likely going to be waiting a little while longer
The only thing im wondering is if that Foxconn and Anandtech are working out issues w/ the bios does that mean they are even in production yet? being as it was at first anticipated in late june, then early july, then late july, now early Aug, it's getting frustrating.
What we do know so far though is that the boards ARE doing well, and according to anandtech much better than expected. I was really glad to hear that B2 steppings are clocking very close to B3's so if this continues to pan out, not only will this be one he** of an update to the Phenom platform but a GREAT win for early adopters with B2's as well.
The downside is that we still lack a concrete date, early August is only as concrete as early July was. it's looking like the R700 and SB750 are going to lauch within a week of eachother. but if these boards are capable of OC's like we've seen from Anand the wait is going to be definatly worth it
My theory on that, which I posted about a week ago, is that the boards were late enough for whatever reason... that they decided to hold them back a bit longer to make SURE that they are 110% ready for the 45nm chips.
Holding back an extra month or even six weeks on somthing that was already REALLY late wouldn't be that embarrassing... but releasing motherboards NOW and then having compatibility problems in 2 month would be VERY embarrassing. They don't need anything like that to happen.
So caution now... OMGPEWPEWLAZERBEAMEYES after release of this AND the 45nm. (With maybe just OMGPEWPEWLEDEYES with the 65nm parts.)
I just wanted to pop in and say that i've heard on a few websites August 6th:
http://forums.amd.com/forum/messagev...VIEWTMP=Linear
also on the french site when translated in google it also mentions an August 6th release date....so here's hoping =D
The problem is that the large back to school orders are taking place now, and AMD is missing out on a large number of sales.. IMHO they should have released the boards and simply had a bios update later. If they are making modifications to the voltage requirements of the boards, that will entail much more than a two week delay that we have experienced so far.
You can bet the motherboard manufacturers are pleased as hell about having all that stock sitting in warehouses during the prime selling time of the year due to this delay.:shakes:
PS: I have a Phenom BE that I has been waiting for two months for the 790gx/750 chips. He is not happy either :)
True but they wanted to get the Phenoms out before Xmas last year to make some $$$, and we know what happened.
I am guessing that the "primary" market target for these new boards are
the current B2/B3 Phenom owners and not the students. So if I have a low
clock B2/B3 Phenom - don't have much choice but to wait...
They might want to time the boards and the RV700 to come out at the same time as well.Besides AMD has a "new" guy at the top,so who knows.
edit*
There is also the new AOD version, maybe that's getting "polished".....
Aren't most "back to school" computers laptops?
(Sorry I'm an old guy. We started seeing programmable calculators when I was in college. But you could NOT use them on any test... later you could use them but had to prove that the memory was erased. This was mainly for Physics classes. I guess now EVERYBODY uses laptops. Which would mean that in classes I would NOT if I was in school right not. I'd use a pad and paper just to be different. Besides... you don't really take notes in Math and Physics.)
"BACK TO SCHOOL" OVERCLOCKING COMPUTER ANYONE???
It is approaching that situation, but not quite there until probably this year ....
Only in the last two maybe three years has laptop prices dropped sufficiently to spur a rush to back to school purchase (that is my opinion).
This year should be stellar for laptops though as both AMD and Intel positioned their newest products as mobile for the back to school rush. Laptops may actually cross over DTs as the most computers sold in Q3.
WTF is that back to school stuff about anyway. You can buy computers when you're on school too:confused:.
August 6th, lets hope. I really hope the boards will be in stock though and not another 2~3 week wait for availability:(
I know some people going to collage etc, get cash together from how ever they do. And just buy what they want...My wife got money from family for collage when she went and didn't just buy school stuff....That was a few years ago.. but my point is.. they is chance to sell if they prices look good etc...If I made any sense..
Maybe they're using a MAYAN calandar?:rofl:Quote:
So when was the official release again?
I thought end of july aka 30th of july...
All right students:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=790gx&x=0&y=0
Man, why do they have to do this. I just ordered a Q6600 and P45 mobo setup 2 days ago! I would've stayed with AMD if they would've released this just days sooner.
I thought it's going to be at least another month.
Hey just send the boring Q6600 back and make a new order :D
I don't want to lose the 15% restocking fee. Oh well, I build a new comp every 2 years, so hopefully AMD will have a competitive product and I'll go AMD next time.
So far the worst aspect I've seen of these reviews is that they have been positive, the Intel trolls are gonna be rabid.
I wonder if the SB750 / 790GX will bring the needed stability for phenoms when OC'n under 64bit environment....
There is a post dated 7/31/2008(
same page?) giving the Aug. 6th date
You must learn patience
For AMD QC owners that is a minimum requirement anyway:p:
Don't worry play with Intel and grab a 45nm Phenom next year
besides nothing wrong with having 2 or more machines. I've got 4 (that I use
daily) besides the 790gx is a mATX (well some of them) get a nice small
portable case and you're set;)
Well, looks like I'm might have get a Phenom and 790GX setup. The board that I got seems to be doa (Asrock P45TurboTwinS2000), if I can't figure out what's wrong with it I'm just gonna return it and buy the Phenom.
Well, some people claim AMD had always slightly lower OC's on 64 bit OS's however I had my Windsor running at 3.5Ghz, which would mean I should have gotten higher than that in 32 bit OS. However, looking at 99% of the Windsors, ~3.5Ghz is about the wall of the CPU so Im not entirely sure.
Also it depends a little bit how much the SB600 played a role in the differences between the OS's, although I think the difference will remain though.
I've got a few questions on a few things that puzzle me....
1) I've read up on the 790FX somewhat, and to me it seems as if the major difference is lack of integrated graphics. Is there anything else significantly different?
2) If not, why do I see the upcoming boards at a higher price than the 790GX? (I haven't seen any for sale yet either!?)
3) With the 790GX, you have a couple of options for video output (actual connection). But you can only use one at a time, correct? Or can you use two monitors? (I've read conflicting info on this one)
4) If you can't, what happens when you add a separate card with two outputs possible (used to be called "dual-head" I believe) - you get a total of three?
5) I read somewhere that the AIW cards weren't supporting hybrid Xfire - does that mean that the card/IGP won't work "in tandem as one" but will work separately?
And a last one.... pleeeeease....
Seems like that Asus M3A78-T is a great board all things considered - any heads up on it that a potential buyer should be aware of?
If you could briefly enlighten me I'd appreciate it!....
I decided to order a 790GX + SB750 board off of Newegg. I did rush + overnight so hopefully it will be here for the weekend.
I went for the most expensive one available since it was the only one to have three slots. We'll see what it does for my 9850BE. On 790FX+SB600 it currently maxes at 2.8, 1.4V. Even that isn't fully stable anymore.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131331
It took quite a bit of doing to convince myself that I wasn't wasting money on something I don't need. Of course I don't NEED it--this is pure play time!
I'll post my results. :D
I've been waiting for the SB750 for so long... I think I'll wait a bit longer.
That makes you the lab rat!
So... you GO... let us know. Your 9850 results sounds similar to mine.
And: I want to hear about you hitting 3.2Ghz stable and 3.4Ghz benchable.
Get 'er dun!
So the Asus one is a bit of an oddity because that middle black slot only runs at 4x. I'm not entirely sure why it's even there and am guessing it was just to save on design costs?
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/758/1/
The max the boards are designed to do is dual 8x really with anyone wanting more needing to move to the 790FX series.Quote:
The Asus M3A78-T motherboard has 3 x16 PCI-E slots on it. The top PCI-E slot is fully 2.0 compliant, and runs at a full x16 mode. The black PCI-E slot is also fully 2.0 compliant, but runs at x4 speeds only, while the fully 2.0 compliant white slot runs at a maximum of x8 speeds.
The board does support regular crossfire (you would want to run it in the blue and white slots) Crossfire, and hybrid crossfire, which uses the IGP graphics and an add-on card that is compliant.
so for the real enthusiast boards...we will have to wait till 790FX + SB750?
anyone know till how long those roll out?
I'm not really too worried about the PCIe situation. My own benchmark results on my K9A2 showed me that the difference between PCIe 1.0 and 2.0 were small (but favored 1.0) and the difference between running x16-x8 and x16-x16 were marginal if any using my two 4850s. I'll use the x4 slot for my x8 RAID controller. However, if results are lack-lustre, this board will become the mobo for that HTPC machine I've been planning (and postponed until next week).
Well I have everything except one 4850 that still needs to come in. I have the new board and h20 and 1 4850.. I am assebling tonight...

I'm thinking about getting the BIOSTAR TA790GX A2+ board, is it any good?
polygon at the rebels haven has it, http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-...113;p=5#000077
That looks good, 3.2ghz is very good for a Phenom 9850.
How about getting 3.4 on a 9850 with M3A32-MVP
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5378/aodtd5.png
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/537...1bf668c3af.jpg
Isn't that an SB600 board?
Kazgirl: Thats all 4 cores running at that speed
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6185/aod34pa9.png
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6...aca01e7dd5.jpg
4ghz on air.
that would be the best chip ever made from AMD.
I know... my first is the serious hope for, and the second just a wish for
Chances are that its already maxed out, just been lucky with that CPU probably the cores are more skew tolerant already, so ACC with SB750 most likely won't give any benefits..... well maybe voltage...!!!
What? No MSI?
MSI DKA790GX Platinum
http://global.msi.com.tw/uploads/pro...76c62c0442.jpg
According to what I have read, there will be three SB750 products from MSI:
DKA790GX Platinum
DKA790GX
KA790GX
I see that the success with Asus' boards are limited (Not surprised). Why not someone give MSI a try.
Still worth a try though because their boards are usually significantly cheaper than competing models.
I am not a big fan of Asus at all, and Gigabyte has or used to have high failure rates.
Still I would love to see a review for the MSI platinum and budget sb750s.
I was waiting for the Foxconn Dreadnought, got fed up of waiting so was going to just buy the MSI 790 FX, then I noticed that some mobo manufacturers were going to put the SB750 on the 790FX chipset so decided to wait a little longer again.
Does anyone know when the ASUS M3A79-T DELUXE is going to be available in the UK?
I agree Asus BIOS support has gotten very poor lately, and most of the time there are BIOS' available here or elsewhere well in advance of them appearing on the ASUS downlaods website.... thank God for that, as it takes forever for BIOS' to be made available officially through that...
and trying to contact ASUS support is an ordeal in itself, often ending in a canned reply like "Please be checking motherboard support page for updates".....which is of no use and no answer to the originall question....!!!
I think having a job as an ASUS support member would be the easiest job possible, just run a script to send a canned reply to all e-mail requests received on a given day....:down:
Hi I'm waiting on them as well, not even been able to find any 790GX boards in teh UK yet, let alone the 790FX/SB750 versions.... the closest I've come to finding a 790GX mobo is at Morecomputers.com where they have an availability date of 19th Aug, so we can probably expect to not see the M3A79-T until mid-end Sep at this rate...
Slightly OT I know, but have you seen the prices of the 4870X2 at oveclockers.co.uk.... compared to US prices, as always we're getting totally ripped off... cheapest 4870X2 here is £375.99 thats approx. US $ = $742.17 whereas in the US apparently they are listed at approx $559 thats an extra $200 approx. even VAT can't account for that much of a difference..... its like a 50% markup..... if the price was a bit more balanced I might have considered getting one, but no way at this price.... at the $559 US price it should equate to £278.63 over here, which is high enough IMO.... I certainly wouldn't pay more than that..... including VAT...!!! Not for a single card anyway...
I hope that the RD790/SB750 boards will be released (and available) in two weeks (or less).
These boards from DFI have been a long time for pre-order so I guess it wont take all that long anymore. Oh well, ordered one already and Ill see when it arrives. In the end Im already waiting for it for months now, so better late than never:p:
OcUK always overcharge in the first couple of weeks a new product is out. When the 4870 arrived they were charging around £230 for it. And then they had the cheek to put on a special promotion where you could buy two cards for £440.
Still, they are capable of the odd deal. I've had some great cheap memory from them in the past.
I have seen an XFX 750a board for £80 which I think I may get in the mean time. I've been meaning to get a Phenom for a while as my two main rigs are both Intel's and fancy something different. It just seems to be one constant wait though.
I wouldn't buy from overclockers.
I considered buying from them once as they are a large etailer. I did a google search for some reviews. Lots of really terrible comments. Certainly put me right off.
Overclockers are not that bad. Picked up a 24" PVA monitor for £179 ex Vat a few weeks ago. Excellent buy, very happy with it. Been buying stuff from them for nearly 10 years now. They're expensive, rip you off with delivery charges if you need stuff outside of the UK but generally they have a good selection of stuff and good value as well if you look for it. They have a Phenom 9850 for sale for £109 which looks fair money :)
They are probably the biggest outfit in the UK for specialist pc components so get the largest share of complainants along with the sales.
Will very likely be getting a SB750 board from them as they will have the biggest stock earliest. :2cents:
Biostar TF8200 A2+
http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...&tid=tf8200a2+
If anybody knows/post when the GX boards will be available in the UK, pls post
:D hey! This is my first big thread!!! :D Thanks everybody for joining in.
The 9850 isn't £109, that's excluding VAT. Thats the other thing that gets my goat about them. They put up massive prices, claiming it to be really cheap, then you click on it and find out the advertised price was without VAT. I have also heard some horror stories about their service.
BUT, I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them, some of it was good value and cheap, some of it was overpriced but they were the only place that had it in stock, so over the years I'm probably breaking even. And, although the delivery is a bit extortionate I've never had a late delivery, and they are the only company I have used who have managed that so far because I live in the arsehole of nowhere.
