Hey pmp :) How important do you think the Write- Precharge and tWTR delays are for high RAM MHz? Iv been keeping mine around 14-16 for both.
Cheers, and nice numbers!!

Frankly i never tried to up them to see if it affects speed abilities. Maybe Tony or Bachus would support us with their great RAM knowledge :)
Forget 1600 with Micron for now, bachus may be able to do it but i can't with the boards I have here, and many other can't and this in not just with 2GB OCZ modules. I can kill 1600 scores at 1333+ so whats the point of worrying about it. If 1333 is faster than 1600 why do you all want 1600?
I will post my settings once I hit 200% coverage, you will not believe the skews i am runnings
@BulldogP0
Probably ( I don't have the board here with me ) under the circled capacitor:
http://i30.tinypic.com/nz50s7.jpg
What pin on a DDR3 slot is the Vin? :)
1333 may be faster with a higher FSB... (415 compared to 500)
but surely if the same FSB were used for both mem speeds, 1600 should give a higher bandwidth at least?
My setup for 500fsb 1333memory, skews are pretty wild but it is 100% stable.
Have a look here for the settings
CPU is at 4.25GHZ in these settings
Im going to pick this board up. Using this RAM
KHX12800D3K2/2G
I also have 2 36GB Rptors I run in RAID 0 on my P965. I hope to have some luck. Since that's all it seems to be. Or if you think I should just go x38 and get it over with. hah
TONY....
i tried your settings and my board posts fine. the NB seems low compared to my other settings though. i cannot get rid of the instant BSOD when windows tried to load.
what chip are you using with those settings?
im using e7200 but will try my e8500.
I have since returned this board, it was the worst motherboard compatibility i have ever had in 15 years of building computers, i am not going to buy new products again, wait months for the problems to be solved.............DDR3 is problems for now, intel chipsets suck because memory controller is on the NB and not on the cpu........that is where AMD wins, and i cannot wait for the day that AMD makes a comback, hopefully its in the next year.
^I think he said it all. Maybe I will wait a month
EDIT:
Pulled from the Asus Website
"DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1600, it is suggested to use one DIMM per channel"
This means what? You can't run Dual Channel?
So where can we get his new 0804 bios?
You're right, Pyr0. I run a quick test @ 500FSB/1600C7 and it turned out to give a better result than 1333C6 Tony posted - not a huge difference but enough to counter the claim on "1333C6 destroying 1600C7". I don't want to argue here, I just felt like correcting an unfair statement being made. Apples-to-apples is the only way to compare.
All secondary memory timings, CLK skews and other memory settings at AUTO, except for Transaction Booster @ 8 (AUTO sets it to 10); all voltages as in previous 1600C7 post

As Gary mentioned, new 0804 BIOS has been passed on for testing. From now on, it will only get better :)
:toast:
leave it Bachus, if this continues i will be forced to leave XS and I doubt this is something Fugger wants.
I said my piece...you spoke out of turn...end of story. My work produced the 0804 and helped Micron users, all you did was show samsung worked fine.
You need to ask yourself what you are actually giving to the community and what you are just doing for Corsair
It's still a Beta BIOS, and only a few beta BIOSes are made available to the public.
You won't find it on Asus's public FTP.
Tony and OCZ have amazing support, CORSAIR stop trying to show him up, i have had nothing but good things to say about OCZ, one of the best in the memory support.
hey.. someone pass me that 0804... my board wont even post unless setting are EXACT. these crucial sticks are great in my p5k3 but seem to be a serious problem in my p5q3.
What do you mean that it won't post unless your settings are EXACT ?
By exact you mean manually set ? If yes, then the resolution is a modified SPD for your RAM.
I can't help you unless you define what you mean exactly.
I cannot pass this BIOS to the public yet, sorry.
i tried TONY's setting for 8.5x500 and my board boots fine but if i bump the FSB up 4mhz it wont post at all. even a voltage bump wont fix it.
I still have some tuning (skews and straps) and stability testing to finish tonight, 0804 is not perfect yet but we are getting there. The key so far is that less is more on this board, lower voltages, delayed skews, and a 400 strap setting is your best friend.

Is Everest any good as a stability benchmark?
Hate to say it but im about ready to throw in the towel on this board and send it back. It doesnt perform- either for the MHz it can do or for the MHz it should. It cant even do what it says on the box. :(
I was finally able to boot into Windows at 1333Mhz. Only difference now is that instead of 2 sticks, I installed all 4 sticks. It is using some very relaxed timings at 8-8-8-28, but it works at least.
Mine's rev 1.02G ( yes, I'm back at my place now :D ) and smells like fresh PCB :D
I'm tired from moving all the stuff, but having all those new stuff next to me is really tempting and I don't think I can stand that :p:
I'll try to get some sleep and after unpacking most of the stuff I'll try to slip away, and run some quick tests :D
Hi all,
I've been following this thread with interest as I bought my P5Q3 Deluxe two weeks ago. Had some problems at first to get Vista installed but after setting all the BIOS settings to it's defaults and only used one memory stick I eventually had a clean Vista 64 install
I think this board is great, been using DFI for the past four years but wanted to get a Asus because of the ease of use of setting up ( compared to DFI).
My PC details:
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n
Intel E8400
Corsair TWIN3X 1333MHz
MSI nVidia 8800 GTX
WD VelociRaptor
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB
Zalman ZM850-HP PSU
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional
Noctua NH-U12P
Antec P-180
Dell 24" widescreen
My BIOS settings are on auto, except:
CPU: 400x9 @ auto voltage
NB: 1.20v
Mem. timings: 9-9-9-24 @ 1.8v 1600 mhz

This setup has been stable since I got it, have flashed to the 0801 bios but can't say that I notice any difference with it. I'm not after any world records, just want a good stable PC that allows me to do what I want it to do...
Kind regards,
Karl
JFYI:
I just flashed in the 0801-BIOS. With the 0704 I was able to bench with atleast 560MHz FSB, now BIOS got corrupted at ~535MHz FSB.
With 0704 ~1800MHz 7-7-7-18 seemed nearly stable. Sometimes I had to reboot 2-3 times for it to work though. I havn't had the chance to try max memspeed with 0801 yet.
I'm flashing to 0804 now and going to check the max "POSTable" FSB with ExpressGate :p:
p.s. Yeah, I'm using ExpressGate at the moment.
That will be interesting... I tried it with 0801 and then got:
"unknown BIOS error. Error Code=813F"
Now it is unbootable. Will try with IDE-disk soon though.
Had to remove the second pair of RAM and bring it back down to 1066Mhz 6-6-6-22 [I was running 5-5-5-15 before, but to be safe I just did the 6-6-6-22]. It was just not stable at all with the 1333Mhz dual pair setup. I hope 0804 brings me some good news man, this board is turning out worse than the P5E3, which I dropped without trying as much as I have with this one; I guess it is because it is not my setup, but my brother's.
This board was a nightmare......i dont know how anyone is still holding on to this board???
the bios is still immature. it takes people like us and threads like this to get the bugs worked out. this board has HUGE potential, the bios just needs to get better. right now im having to sit and wait for them to fix whatever problem it has with my micron chipped ram. supposedly it's fixed in this 0804 bios that has been mentioned. im just waiting to get it.
i understand what your saying. same goes with my crucial 1600's. crucial is one of the most popular along with OCZ and Corsair so why are we having all these incompatibility problems? it's not just one model of ram either. weirdness.
still... i think we just have to be patient.
What about 0804 ?
is it improving somthing?
where can I get it?
0801 do not change anything still nogo 1600 1500 1400 !!!
i've heard from a number of PPL that it's allowing clocks above 1333mhz for micron based ram.
Thats all ?
what about ocz ? and can we see the 1600 no.
I have to now what to do ? To change the memory or the asus p5q3 ?
It will be the first time that i will use non asus board
i'd just be patient. i havent heard a whole lot about it yet but i've seen 1900mhz with OCZ's with the beta 0804 bios so it looks promising.
Thanks , I ' ll wait to this bios
Well, I don't think this board is that bad. I think that almost every brand new board I have had, have had some BIOS-issue.
I don't think this board is such a bad one either, take a look in the other board threads in this forum - ppl are experiencing same type or other problems with every new board. Take a look at the new X48 DFI board for instance. I've bought several DFI boards in the past as soon as they were released, some of them had problems for months after it finally got fixed. I find it irritating that the industry works like this, but I guess we have our self to blame as we all want the cutting edge technology right away...
Kind regards,
Karl
ASUS has three sets of the OCZ Platinum 3P1600EB4GK kits, all three exhibit different characteristics on this board, two of the kits have different specs but the same part number. I ordered another set from NewEgg to try, same held true here for my first Corsair kit (to be fair) as one had the same problems as the OCZ, but the second one is humming along at 1600 easily. I am also swapping out my GSkill and Patriot kits this week for newer kits. This regression testing is getting expensive... :D
Kinda looks like a IC or SPD change to me at first glance but it appears to go much deeper now. That said, getting a BIOS fix is proving difficult due to all the changes, one memory set works great, the next one does not, get the one that does not work up to speed, and another kit all of a sudden has problems. By the way, two other P45 DDR3 boards I have are experiencing the same problems, so it might be a core BIOS code problem.
I have six Micron kits here, two work perfectly, the other four do not. The "bad" four ( :D ) also do not work on the MSI Platinum board but the two good ones do. It is the boards, BIOS, or IC/SPD combination? That is what we are working on right now. As a side note, the Samsung kits work perfectly regardless of brand.
What about bios 0804 is it doing thomthing or not??? , whre can we get it ?
You can't get the BIOS 0804 yet mevorach.
It's not perfect, and now I have some symptoms that could be sourcing from the BIOS ( every BIOS has a/some flaws usually ).
Give it some time, I bet we'll have some Micron DDR3-1600+ 4GB Kits action soon.
Last night, I testing about 2 hours with 0801 bios. I tried how performance p45..only 5:6 ratio worked well for me. (2GB OCZ 1600EB kit).
I got now 0804 bios, and I go test again..
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/4474/11128bi0.jpg
it seems 1:2 ratio works. i could reach DDR3 1800 but at 2000 BSOD.
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/8...0c7sul3.th.jpg
I'm having trouble with 2x1gb kit of Cellshocks. Those are Micron ICs too I believe? At 1600 mhz, spec timings and even with Tony's suggested relaxed settings memtest spews errors like crazy. I know the sticks are good, they worked fine up to 1800mhz and a little beyond in P5E3 Premium. Still on bios 704, I'll flash that to the newer version as soon as I get home tonight and see if that helps. :(
A little update to where I am:
been testing multiple kits, all 1 module at a time. Some work right off the bat close to 1600 with little to no skew adjust needed. Some work with a little skew needed and 5 mins fine tuning gets you rocking along 1600MHZ single channel.
Now here is where it gets complicated:
Thru testing A2 and B2 (orangle slots as Asus recomend) I have found the following.
1 I can dial a module in A2, for instance 500ps NB clock delay, A1 skew 250 advanced and A2 skew 250Advanced
2 remove that dimm, place it in B2 and try to dial in the skew for B2 using only B1 and B2 Dram clock skew adjust, I have to leave the NB skew good for A2 ;)
3 It will not dial in, nothing I do will get me stable with the same dimm I used for A2 stable in B2 leaving NB skew at 500ps delay.
4 So, i move to change NB skew and find B2 200ps delay Dram clock and Normal NB clock gets me the dimm stable at 1600MHZ.
5 Now move the module back to A2 and try to dial it in again....no joy :(
6 Try leaving B2 module alone and use one of 6 other modules I have here leaving the B2 NB skew and Dram clock skew intact and tuned....Nothing works, A2 needs a different NB skew to B2
So Gary says he has kits that work..2 from 6, I have 6 kits and I can get any of the modules tuned in but ONLY on their own.
I asked for a bios that has DRam CLock skew, DRam DQ skew, and DRam DQS skew and labelled as such. I feel I will stand a much better chance dialing in modules if we have these 3 skews all sperate. As it stands now Asus need to work a few wonders in a bios ( which I am sure they can do) but i really would like to do my own tweaking with this to be sure I understand what is going on.
it is SPI 32M stable with 1.96vdimm. my RAM has GTR chips.

Anyone has graphics interface link width 2x issue with PCIe graphics card?
jugeen i think 1:2 worked nice on 0801, i reported that few pages before :)
What kind of PCIe problems you faced ?
ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe BIOS build 0804
This one improves compatibility with Micron based 2x2 GB modules (especially OCZ Platinum or Platinum EB PC12800)
Improves does not mean - it fix it absolutely - so please don't complain at it atm!
I tried 0804, everything same.. my 2*1GB OCZ Platinium 1600EB kit not stable at 1600 or more...
But this kit could 32M stable results in Asus P5E64WS EVO :
1600Mhz 6-6-6-20 2T 1,98v
1800Mhz 7-7-7-20 2T 1,98v
2000Mhz 8-8-8-24 2T 1,98v
Tony: I think SPD is no good for P5Q3, because last time my rams no boot in nf790i too.. What do you advice? What SPD I flash for my kit?
There is no specific spd at this time, DDR3 is a different beast to ddr2, with DDR2 you tell the board what to boot at and with...DDR3 gives the board a set of calculations it has to do...then it boots.
Im workin on it for sure, I have a 2GB test spd that seems to make a difference, BUT im not releasing just yet, plus P45 has a new smbus that w1zzrad needs to code into spdtool.
all my worries has flown away. my problem was graphics card related. i swapped it to a 9800GTX and after a GTX280. with both cards link width was 16x. so there is no PCIe bug like we had before with other Asus mobos. unfortunately my 8800gts seems to be faulty cause link width 2x error appeared on P5E3 Premium and P5E64 Evolution mobos. it's RMA time. :(
Thanks, I will try it later today.
Short Update -
Intel is busily updating the core BIOS code on a daily basis now in order to solve the DDR3 problems. More later...
Get my board tomorrow. My Kingston uses Samsung chips. I will update.
FSB : DRAM 1:2 also works with 0902 BIOS. FSB 500 boot is bellow.

My P5Q clx DDR2 mobo isn't stable in dual channel
Iam looking to upgrade to DDR3 what mobo?? would you recomend for a e8400 that runs stable at 4ghz ????
also what DDR3 is working best???
as i saw everyone has different experience with his/her DDR3 with this mobo. it is sad that samsung chip runs well on p5q3 deluxe, but that chip is not as good for oc as micron d9gtr/d9gts. asus works hard to solve RAM instability. if you are not hurry than i suppose wait a short time till stable OC information published. else if you eager to have P45 DDR3 than pick up ddr3 kit with gtr chip and go go go!
This is just to get me by untill the fall/winter when Bloomfield series hits
I tried to keep my p5q dlx but I will have to upgrade to DDR3 this fall anyways.
I do not understand 0704 0801 0804 0902 and same problem do not work 1600mhz
Change to p5e3 dlx works 1700mhz with no isue so what does asus engenirs do ?
This board is sh..
It looks like this is being worked on actively, but talking with Fugger over the weekend about Micron/P45, I mentioned that I was able to get my Ballistix 1600s >1600 no problem on the P5Q3 Dlx, so he told me to post it up. Maybe I just have a lucky set that works in it.
This was definitely on the 702 beta BIOS, but don't ask me to recall settings because it was weeks ago ;) I still had the same problem as others that immediately crash @ 1000MHz, but I will try a couple of these new ones when I have time. These sticks did ~1030MHz 7-7-7 in the P5K3 with just 1.90V, so they are definitely good for it.
I might be a little late to the discussion, but wanted to post these results because I said that I would ;)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...20_136vmch.png
n00b! Where's the 700MHz FSB to go along with it?
Ross can you do 7-6-5 by any chance? I'm guessing you've got JNL so the answer to that would be no. I'd personally given up hope on P45, but after seeing that it looks like it's definitely worth thinking about. Is the 2T a bug? If not, is it necessary?
1) Gautam, there's no Command Rate option available yet, and MemSet doesn't Command Rate setting doesn't work.
2) Ross, they're talking about 4GB Kits ( 2*2GB ) with the other Micron chips.
With 2*1GB ( 2GB Kits ) depending on your luck, skills and timings you can clock up to about DDR3-2000.
Let's give Intel some time to "tweak" it out ;)
Bench, that explains it. Thanks for the heads up :)
Gautam, I never pulled the spreaders, so I have no clue which chips they actually are. 700FSB LOL, not on this chip...this screen is already 20FSB higher than this particular proc ever ran on any other chipset.
This FSB is only good for CPU-Z & 1M. 32M still won't run clean >570FSB, which is the same as any other chipset (making me think it's the CPU and not the NB or mem though). What I will do is try to run lower FSB and keep the mem speed (which should confirm it), but a different ratio may not work as well.
I don't recall trying 7-6-5 on this board, but I have on others...just don't remember how high :) I'll give that a shot as well.
i could run SPI32M @ 1600 CL6. at this time i think this board needs +0.04 vdimm to be stable than P5E64 Evolution needed. or maybe i should play with skews.

Workin with the MSI P45 today, 2x1GB sammy 1800+ quite easy, 1600 was so easy i gave up trying. 4GB ohh my, here we go again.
Asked for a new bios, will test a theory with it when it arrives...for now gave up on Asus and went back to BT2 x48 bios tweakin.
I hit delete 300 times Thursday last, then friday, then Monday...im getting tired of it for now.
on my situation, DDR3 1600 CL7 stable is only work on the black slot with 0704 BIOS, orange can go up to 1333 only. other version of BIOS like 801, 804 and 902 will freeze in windoews while running memtest pro!
BTW, which version of aisuite can show Vdimm?
Please share the 902 BIOS on another website, I can't access it for now.
Whats a safe northbridge voltage? Whats the Stock NB Voltage?
I cant quite get it stable at 3.6Ghz, HL2 Crashes.

Its hella stable at this. What can i do?
I break 655 fsb on my deluxe P5Q3
but no valide just photo :(

its easy to get 2x1024 stable, issues are with 2x2GB modules.
GAR its still having issues yes, all the P45 DDR3 boards I tested are, especially with 4GB
But 2x1 1600 and 1800 is nothing new. How about 2K at least 32M? :)
