As for the overclocking, in my experience the cards will NOT go over 850 to 855Mhz without manually increasing the fan speed or adding an aftermarket cooler. But your issue with Tri SLI overclocking seems more due to a driver issue than a heat issue. Remember ATI's issues with overclocking the HD2900XT cards in Crossfire?

Does anyone know or read somewhere if these cards can transport Audio through HDMI?

Really looking to buy one of these to be able to connect to my HDTV.

I can confirm it works very well....in theory

All you have to do is hook up the included SPDIF connector (supplied with some cards) from your audio source (sound card or mobo) to the SPDIF-in connector on the GTX. Then attach the DVI to HDMI cable and install the proper drivers and VOILA...audio through HDMI. I'm actually going to be hooking up my GTX to a HK amp sometime next week.

Would it safe to assume that I could get away with using the watercooling solution I have installed on my 8800GTS 640 on the 9800GTX? It is the MCW60 waterblock with the MC8800 SMC cooling kit. I am guessing I wouldn't need the adapter plate from what I see in the pictures.

Edit: For that matter, have we seen anything where someone has gotten one of these under water?

I have a question on the new 9800GTX factory OC cards coming out. Would I have a better change of buying 2 of these cards and overclocking them more then the factory OC? Or should I just buy 2 stock 9800GTX cards then OC. I have been seeing the stock 9800GTX cards OCing around 775-800 on core. I'm thinking if I buy a factory OC card @ 770 core maybe I could push it even more, like to 850? I have a chance to buy 2 of these eVGA 9800GTX at Tiger for $309.00 each, vs buy 2 eVGA 9800GTX SSC cards @ $379.99 each. I would save about $220.00 going the stock way. So what do you think?

Just go for the cheapest ones. I think they're all the same really. I haven't seen any version overclocking better than another. Save your money.

I tested Club3D, Gigabyte (stock) and BFG OC.
I OC them to 830-850. No need to buy a OC version.

any reliable test vs 9800gtx 3 way sli and 2 x 9800gx2's?

Im looking for a significant boost in games like Crysis, hope next gen is big enough or I may skip that 1 too.

9800GTX = AMD not having true highend and NV cashing in, IMHO.

Any of you have problems with the Control Panel of NVidia. Whenever I choose Monitor I get a BSOD with my EN9800GTX.

I tried, 174.74 and now the 174.185 driver.

Anyone else experienced this?

This is due to the temperature sensor being used by ASUS for their SmartDoc software. Use the latest version of Rivatuner which should work for temp monitoring.

The real question here...I'm upgrading from a 7800GT.

For ~$600 USD, do you get buy a GX2 or two GTX's or wait until the 9900's?

Sorry I formulated my question badly.

I didn't mean to read out the temp, got Everest for that. I get a BSOD with Ntune in the Control Panel. I am able to enter and edit the GPU Stettings under Performance, but not the Monitor or chipset within Performace. I get a total lockdown and BSOD.

depends on the rest of your hardware.
i wouldn't like to use nvidia chipset for intel cpus (sli)

i would choose maybe the GX2 as for lower power consumption and intel chipsets compatibility (no sli need)

I've compared benchmarks with my results and 2 9800GTX is faster than 1 9800GX2 by about 5-6FPS in Crysis bench. 9800GTX will definitely be the fastest but if you don't already have an SLi mobo then 9800GX2 might be the better option.

Same as what I had gathered from all the reading and benchmark comparisons. To be chipset agnostic, the GX2 is the best move...but if you want to run on an SLI mobo, then 2 GTX's would be the best bet for ~$600.

And 2 cards are still way easier to sell then one 600 dollar card...

play COH, CSS

would it be a noticeable improvement going to 9800gtx?

Nope, pretty CPU limited there mate just look at the 9800GTX as an OC'ed GTS 512, but that card doesn't give 20FPS more on that res...

I had an X2 here that gave me 20340 points in 3dmark with a quad at 4ghz... pretty rocksolid, though take into consideration pretty hefty heat output in the case and requirements of PSU with one 6 pin and one 8 pin conector...

If you got an SLI board go 9800GTX if you already own one, though even that setup will be not as good as the X2 in Crysis... but for all the other games it will be plenty fast if ya can bundle it with a speedy CPU...

Hey guys I got my new eVGA 9800GTX's and ran a 3DMARK06 bench and scored a 20,774 @ 824/2400/2080 using display driver 174.74. Now I tried my eVGA 8800GT's SSC @ 760/2100/1850 and scored a 20,334 diplay driver 169.44? Why such a low score compared to the 9800GTX's?? Is it because of new display drivers??

frigg, the coin never made it outta the pocket

went with a galaxy gx2 - drivers a little wonky with this one - have to change to 174.74 tweakforce version had 174.70 before but that did not go well with this card

and much hotter - running around 74.5c connected to 2x 1920x1200 displays

fan fixed at 70% and temps now 61c

169.44 gave me almost 1000 extra 3dmarks over 174.74 but the majority of what you are seeing is a cpu bottleneck. Either cards can render frames as fast as the cpu throws them out so 3dmarks will be similiar. Run 3dmark at 1920x1200 and you will see a much bigger difference.

At 1920x1200 yes it will be noticeable improvement over a GT. Your CPU speed will bottleneck you at lower res but not so much at the higher res. I would still OC that 6600 to 3.6 though will see a nice improvement :)

ok got the gx2 703/1752/2200 - running 3.51ghz - system got some go to it now
using 174.74 drivers, but, these seem better then some other versions but hardly optimal for this card -
what is it? a lack of good drivers?

I run 9800GTX SLi so can't say for sure but I can tell you the best drivers for me currently are 174.85's they offer the most stability and a nice performance increase over 174.74. might want to give them a shot.

Here is a quick shot of my last score in 3DMARK06 with my 2 x eVGA 9800GTX's SSC @ 831/2350/2098

Cranck that Qx up to 4500 and beat 24K mate... I was short a few points, but still using the older bios/drivers a few months ago on the 780i
