Is that a Foxconn Transformer F1 box you're using as a 'case' there kingpin? :D
Nice results man, LN2 sure is fun to play with ;)

How soon until you have quad results? i know they are saying the driver will not be released till next week. Do you happen to have it already?
They're only human, guys. :)
It's actually a much older benchtable that was custom built by chilly1.
Vince the card only work with 6+8 , not like HD3870X2 that work OK with 6+6 , right??
im asking this because i will receive a XFX 9800GX2 tomorow and i think XFX cards dont have 8pin adapter and my PSU dont have pci-e 8 pin :(
i Know BFG and Zotac comes with 8 pin adapter but for what i saw in XFX 9800GX2 reviews , the XFX cards dont have it , and if 9800GX2 realy need 6+8 that its Unacceptably from XFX !
regards
It is highly recommended to use an 8 pin PSU connector, because the 6>8 pin adapters do not pass UL and it could be a fire hazard.
K|ngp|n do you have an extension further separating the cards? If so where did you get it from?
Good job K|ngp|n! I'm still rockin' the not so popular 7950gx2 for my current rig. I love dual cards despite the inherent heat issues with air cooling. This is definitely a card for me to look into when I upgrade later. Hopefully quad SLI will get ironed out a lot better than it did with the 7950gx2. That's the only reason why I never got a second one.
Gentleman:
Please accept my apologies for this turds lack of manners.
He won't be bothering you again. As soon as I finish writing this I will be sending him on an all expense paid 7 day vacation so he can comtemplate his choice of words to the membership.
Thanks for reading.

Thread cleaned, now back to the good stuff from these guys!
Can't anyone bench on say a E8400? The only benches and reviews I ever see for these kind of cards are on the EE CPUs, which the majority of us can't afford :( I wonder how the scores would differentiate between a dual-core and an EE quad-core?
Very nice scores!! I love the way you cool the cards with that 1 tube. First time i have seen 2 GPU,s cooled by 1 container(?)
(stupid) question. How long is this card. My 8800GTX is "almost" to long to fit in my case. I want to upgrade to this card but, when the card is longer than a 8800GTX it is not going to fit!
Sorry for bad english!
In benches I'd say the differce would be pretty obvious, since the former benefit a lot from quad core CPUs ... ;)
As far as gaming is concerned though, things are a bit different ... :) Games usually (or should I say always ? :p:) use only 2 cores ... ;)
//EDIT: @Goofisch I think it's as long as the 8800GTX one ... 8800GTX ---> 26.6 cm, 9800GX2 ---> 26.7 cm (approximately the same ;)) ...
9800GX2 dimension : 26.7x 11.2x 3.8 cm ;)
Except for 3dMark06 the scores will be the same if the CPU is at the same speed
It has the same size of the GTX

You mean this rig?? :D
http://www.overclockingpin.com/quad%20sli%20rig.gif
^^ really needs to work on the cable management :ROTF:
Seriously though, I think 40k is not too far off....
40k? I dont know about that... Definetly 35k.... 40k is pushing it though. I would love to be proven wrong by that rig vince.
[QUOTE=k|ngp|n;2850572]You mean this rig?? :D
who says sex doesn't sell
PCB and copper madness happening there. I'm sure your results will give people the insight to see if it's worth it or not, we're all excited.
9800GX2 sli :p: :p: :p:
Very nice kingpin... How is you Corsair 1000W PSU working for you with this setup?
Very good rig,is the HX1000 powering all the rig or does the graphics have a PSU just for them??
kingpin,
I am trying to enable quad sli in xp but it doesn't show up in the control panel. I also have two of these installed and have to remove the sli cable to get 3dmark 06 to run. What drivers are you using? I have 174.53 off the nvidia site.
what rendering modes will you be using during quad sli test while running 3dmark 06. I have tried the 173.67 in XP and get no quad sli selection. I talked with a buddy who got off the phone today and the tech at EVGA said no quad sli driver until next tuesday.
I have also tried 174.53 in XP and no dice for quad sli selection. Vista runs ok but I don't like the scores. I get something like 16606 for one card with overclocks of 740/1125. I'm at 3.6 ghz with a q6600. I also think that the quad sli isn't running in vista. You can select it, but the scores aren't much better than a single card.
I just got 16332 in XP with one card at gpu 735 memory 1125 and shader 1837
I have a 780i with memory running at 800 mhz. It looks like my scores are cpu limited. The 790i appears to be the ticket. I have on on step up. Can you recommend any ddr3 for about 300 or so?
Current drivers ( the public ones ) don't support SLI with 9800GX2s.
Also, I doubt there'll be a 9800GX2 SLI driver for Windows XP.
With 250-270$ you can grab a OCZ PC3-12800 or Patriot Viper PC3-12800 kit.
Both using Micron D9GTR/D9GTS chips ;)
Quad-SLi will only be available at Vista due to limitation on XP and the drivers aren't ready yet for quad-SLI so you won't see any improvements;)
Yes, It's disheartening when I tried quad sli in vista. I thought I paid too much as it wasn't much better than my two 7950 gx2. I am glad that it isn't running for my scores sake. Can't wait to get the new drivers.
Thanks for the info on the memory.
there is hope for one of these cards in XP.
last 3dmark 06 test with one card in xp was gpu 745/memory 1140/shader 1862 with driver 174.53 = 16421 @ 3.825 ghz.
Yes, it's a quad core. Q6600
universal gpu containers, one size fits all..:yepp:
Very nice work K|NGP|N.....cant wait to see some quad sli numbers
with the 9800GX2 setup.....ref. board of 790i is an champ with ddr3....
I bet new WR's coming out very shortly from nvidia camp.....;)
Edit: I know Vince QuadSLI with the new Dragons are terrible sexy - but please do not do unnecessary image quotes..
Please let's keep this thread clean to the King of 3D great results :D
yea that is low, my stock card almost gets 19k, on dual core.. which I was happy with until I read this post, lmao!!
Nice work bro
:)
cool :D
but i think maybe tri-sli 98gtx would be better for LN2.
ur new pot for gx2 is sexy :D
bench it already
 Very nice Benchconfig
Go man Go! ! ! !
Congrats
Vince whats the highest Vcore setting on the 790i?
I don't know about the rest of 790i boards, but Striker II Extreme can provide your cpu with 2.4 Volts ! ...
From Elmor's Asus Striker II Extreme thread, bios screen :
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/7988/009pp3.jpg
Vince
Definitely update to the new bios mate
and bump SPP and MCP all the way up and enable both P1 and P2 in bios
i will post some superpi results in my thread
BIG BIG BIG improvements ;)
How big? :D
Better overclocking or better performance?
In other words, will you able to get 45k PP ?? :D
By the way, am I the only one who noticed Vince actually called the card a 98000GX2 ? (see thread title)
i don't care about 1M
proper performance is in 32M and that also translates well into 3D benching as well
It will be interesting to see how this scales against Hipro's numbers with dual HD3870X2 cards....which were on air during his run:
LINK
Also interesting how somehow the ATI cards suffer in the CPU Score department even though Hipro's CPU was clocked higher that the one we see in this thread.
IMO, it will be REALLY close between the HD3870X2 and the 9800GX2 once we see more HD3870X2 LN2 results.
Aw man, Vince. You're making me want to switch back to nvidia again. This combination of the 790i and the GX2 sure is tempting:yepp:
Does anyone know if there's going to be a 790i with DDR2 support? I really don't want Nvidia to leave 95% of us out in the cold for not having DDR3 :(
You an find DDR3 now for around $250-$350.00 2GB. Do not buy the DDR3 2000MHz stick that will cost $600.00 Look at the Crucial sticks I got on ebay for $200.00 that can do all of this, compared to the 1800MHz sticks.. And I can go up to 2000MHz as well... :)

(Awesome numbers Vince! Grats!)
Yikes... I don't know if posting some nice benchmark numbers is worth running VISTA.
What do y'all think? I kinda want to try the GX2 out but somehow it seems like this will only be a good benching setup due to the 512 video ram situation. Any thoughts on this?
Right now I'm running 8800Ultras in SLI on a 30" monitor at 2560x1600. Do you think it'd be worth it running GX2's in SLI for gaming at that resolution?
I'm usually an impulse buyer with this kinda new stuff but this one seems so borderline its making me stop and think...
I ran a couple passes of 06 over lunch, got 19K with stock clocks on GX2, and QX9650 at 3.66. This was on a 780i however. Ran overclocked via Rivatuner 750/1140/1900 and got almost identical score, I obviously have some digging to do to find the catch. Nvidia control panel has no "set SLI" like with older cards, only multi-gpu or multi-monitor.
Is it possible to flash XFX 790i mobo with eVGA 790i bios ?
'fubarswe' reached 500MHz FSB with QX9650 on this board today. As I can remember it is VERY rare to see such high FSB with QX9650.

Very, very nice vince.
Quad-sli still under NDA? When can we expect result? the 25th?
Thats another 5 day's of F5 terror :D
Tweaktown has'em I suspect Vince got them as well....
Think that they may still need some work, but hopefully Green will have the WR back soon :)
Take Luck Vince, along with some of those OC'ing Vitamins ;)
Are we waiting for the nda to pass ? Those LN pots are beautiful , enough to convert a water cooling guy .
awwwww man!
AWSOME
so kingpin, when are we gonna see those quad sli results:D :p: ;)
Should start seeing results today, as they have now released the quad SLI drivers. The change log for XP versions says nothing about Quad support though. I bet Vince has had them for a bit though :)

I thought it was the framebuffer in xp... tri-sli "should" have worked, no? quad probably never will.
OMG. Post already.....the wait is killing me. Hehe first post lol.
I bet Vince will do a Quad SLI with Skulltrail @ 5.8ghz and demolish the 3D mark world once and for all! At least I hope he does :D
Yeah, how come you havn't used those kickass 9775 skulltrailz before vince? Or even a 9770 over your 9650 that you have now for that matter?
Those are better and give you more points in 3dmark06 :)
http://www.sweclockers.com/imagebank...k3DMark001.png
point difference is marginal
790i boards are dead easy to OC and 9770 or good QX9650 frequencies will ultimately be higher (= better) than skulltrail
skulltrail has crap memory options and it's DDR2 as well
good overall system is also important '06 and other 3D tests
the very thought of quad sli 9800's makes me quiver with excitement. You'll post crysis vids right? I mean, crysis at very high runin 40 fps would make a nice youtube video :P
Dont be an arse'ole, you're in the wrong part of the forum to try and be funny with wisecracks.
Where's the :wow I didn't hear that in 2002,2003,2004,2005, 2006 and 2007: icon when you need it?
You must think you were the first person to ever say " yeah but what about games - what can it do for ChuckieEgg?"
You're like the person who says "what's the point about top fuel dragsters when you only need 90bhp to go down the mall and buy the special edition My Little Pony that Chron loves so much" sort of person.
I could continue, but you'd only end up more of a laughing stock than you are at the moment. So feck off.
XIP status means helping out, but it also means showing people the link to
http://www.hardocp.com/
when they are beyond help.
Have a nice one way trip. y'all:wave:

Andy
If I recall.... the skulltrail system that fugger OC'd nearly broke 30k because of a 12k+ CPU score in 3DM06... why not do that same rig with LN2 cooled 9800GX2's in quad sli and see what the benchmark turns out? Im sure that a lot of driver issues are holding it back... but damn i would at least like to see them try.
We have probably not seen any quad results because the new drivers aren't making much of a difference.
I was just wondering why you only bench at -45degress with those custom containers you made. Won't you acheive better clocks with -1xx degress?
post 16
Start reading the thread:)
You guys might wanna try these and see how they work out.
Forceware 174.74
Vista 32-bit
Vista 64-bit
XP 32-bit
XP 64-bit
Oh :banana::banana::banana:, I completely forgot about this thread and the quad stuff :D
Been working with NVIDIA this week on the cold throttling and it's lookin good. I'm re-running all the single card marks later today after I get more tek units out, then quad results will come. New gpu units are making it impossible to find time to bench atm.
So finally the cold bug might be beat. This could mean very good news vgpu's modded (and working :D ) so think it's about time.
Go Vince!
I'm waiting for the "real damage" with GX2:D
I think you need to read it again to see the sarcasm implied and I think I have got fed up of reading that sort of stuff for the last few years, year in, year out.
If you don't agree with what some people like to do in a part of the forum then stay away. Far, far away.
Regards
Andy
Oh where... oh where.... has my little vince gone?
