I did not overclock UVD mode. 775/1125 is the default UVD clocks. Are you sure your cards are stable at 830/1200? The 2d voltage should not be a problem.

Daidalos is this your bios or just someone else's duplicate of the the one you made....
The odd thing about this bios is that it has a bios version of 0.67 which is the frequency locked version, but is unlocked, has fanfix and has powerplay fix similar to mine. It really doesn't seem very official since there is a new 0.77 version out that still does not have the powerplay fix. But i will make a 0.77 with the fix!
it is "official" meaning it's coming from ATi sources. And in GPUZ, now, my card is recognized as an ATi BBA, as it was when i bought it (almost all the reference come with the "reference" bios.Quote:

Could you please make sure that in your next bios(es) you are keeping the default voltage for 2D mode? There are two reasons for it:
1) the difference in power draw is not noticeable
2) it can bring instabilities :p

Actually, this bios won't fix powerplay, it only have fanfix. There's a later build from the same day but from a later hour that actually fixes powerplay and have 775 2d clocks.Quote:

Hey guys, been following this thread for a while now... Have 2x 3870s in CF and have the same problem - but only in Crysis.
Anyways, I now have 2 3870s that need to be flashed back to a "working" BIOS as I modified one of yours from a couple pages back to have all 3d clocks @ 1.327v I believe. Booted up, flashed the cards successfully, rebooted and got a black screen - so a PCI card is on the way :)
Anyways, do you guys have a custom BIOS with all 3d clocks? Boot up, 2d and 3d need to be the same, default Mhz are fine.

I just got my Visiontek from Newegg, they showed a BBA card but I received a Visiontek built card. it has the same HSF assembly of the GECUBE OC edition with the heat pipes. The issues I have currently are as follows.
CCC Overdrive, CPU limited to 840 on the slider and RAM is 1170 on both sides and cannot be manipulated as it is greyed out.
Stock clocks accross the board are 800/1170 for 2d and both 3d settings with
only the voltage being slightly lower in 2d and low power 3d
Can someone tell me if it's safe to use one of the modded bios's to regain the full functionality of Overdrive and Powerplay on my card.

I'd like to mention that this (in bold) is not true. I've made some measurements and difference between 300 MHz@1.24V (default) and 300 MHz@1.0V is vital - about 10W in terms of power draw and as a consequence about 8C (Celsius) in temperature.Quote:

Why waste electricity by removing 2d clocks. Just use rivatuner to make a profile for gaming.

This is whats happening on my 3870!
Even when I overclock in rivatuner my frame rate still drops like crazy in games and benchmarks.
Can i fix this with modified drivers?
There's modded bios floating around that fix the clock fluctuation, but visiontek released an official one that works with all bba cards.
So the one released by visiontek uses all 3dclocks? Or does it just not revert to 2d clocks in games anymore?
If you read the replies on that Visiontek thread, you will see that the bios isnt working as intended as it has a Performance 1 speed of 300/1126.
So I'm not trying that, and also there is no green sticker like that one on my little Triplex 3870.

Winflash2.0.2 won't load your bios with a "SubsystemID's mismatch" error ... and ATIflash returns this error in command prompt :

Everyone with this problem please submit a ticket to ATI so they bother to do something about it.
Dont forget that they will send you an automated response first, and if you dont reply saying that it didnt help within 7 days, your case will be closed and no one at ATI support will have read it.
Hi guys, done the whole thing, enjoyed about 30 fps with very high settings for a couple of days and then suddenly my pc does not recognise XF. not even in 3dmark06. I have checked my cards and they both work perfectly when individually tested but XF is gone.
Anyone with the same problem?
redo your bios flashes... let the system redetect both cards and reinstall your drivers... if that doesnt solve your problem its rma time....

One last question - then I'll leave you alone. Ok, in Crysis, I am having the preoblem where if I turn around fast, the game goes to about 8fps from the 25 or 30 for a short second, then back up. This is obvously because of the card powering down to 2D clocks;
So how will a BIOS with lower 2D clocks stop this from happening? In other words, with the link you provided, the 2D clocks are 300/1125 - so wont the card show the same symptoms of lag and powering down?

those BIOS' have the same 2D clocks as stock, iirc. what was changed were the Low Power 3D clocks, which are different. he set low power 3D clocks to be the same as regular 3D clocks, so power play should never be an issue again.
also, it's possible that motion blur is what is causing your framerate to dip when you move around fast. you can edit the game's config and add a line that says [r_motionblur "0"] or something like that. it might need an = sign in it. i forget exactly how console commands go for that game.

Alright, so I was having the PP problem.
While playing Guitar Hero 3 for PC, every now and then my 3870 would dip down to 300MHz core speed.
I flashed to the "DaidalosBiosPack71v1 (low temps)" BIOS with 777/1125 clocks. After flashing I stil had the same problem, clocks going down to 300MHz for no reason.
So I then edited the 3870fanfix BIOS I was originally using to be 777/1125 and 1.327v for 2D, low 3D, and high 3D.
Flashed to it and I still get the same ***ing problem, except that the card is only dropping to 777 core, but there's still a brief freeze and disruption of my game.
The bottom line is I guess that the next video card I buy will not be an ATI/AMD one, this is horse****.
Had: Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO, 8500 64MB, 9800Pro 128MB, X800GTO 256MB @ 16 pipes @ 850XT speeds, and now this POS, I mean HIS 3870.
^Of all the threads I have seen on the AMD gaming forums and other site about this, I bet that ATi has noticed about this and is [hopefully] working on a solution.
I flashed my cards with his custom 777Mhz core bios as well, and so far so good (in Crysis, as that is the only game I have the problem in). I had to restart the game though, and normally I would be getting around 25fps on very high but since the beginning isn't as intense, I get about 35-40. That could be why I am not seeing this problem anymore.
i think this is something ati should be able to solve... its just a matter of time with their mid to high range all being based on the same core.... i'd be worried if they had a new architecture out....
...Submitted another ticked to ATi today, hoping they will fix this soon.
purecain, do you know of any way to disable the powerplay feature?
Even with the 2D, 3D low, 3D high all at 777/1125 @ 1.327v and NO overdrive o/c or any other o/c, the game still freezes up for a second or two and then fast forwards to catch up with the song as if the 3870's speed was changing, which it wasn't.
Now that doesn't make any sense.
i've played Guitar Hero at my friends' houses and i'm not sure how the game's graphics could possibly pose a problem for a 3870. something is wrong on your end. my friend has (dual) 3870's and plays at 1920x1080 on his TV. no problems on his end. it isn't a graphically demanding game.Quote:

Based on our experience, lockups and hangs issues are usually due to improper system configuration, driver issues, faulty hardware, or a known issue between a given application, driver and hardware in use.
There are several things you can check:
Please keep in mind that you may have already done some of the following suggestions and you DO NOT need to try each one.
1. Please check with your motherboard or PC manufacturer to ensure that you have the latest Chipset driver.
2. Please check with your motherboard or PC manufacturer to ensure that you have the latest Bios flash.
3. Ensure that you have installed any patches or updates for the game or application. You will find these on the developer’s website.
4. Ensure that the latest DirectX version is correctly installed and functioning. For Microsoft’s instructions visit: www.microsoft.com/directx . To access the DirectX Diagnostic Utility do the following: Click Start > Choose Run > type “dxdiag” (without quotes) > Press OK
* Ensure all three (3) DirectX features are enabled:
1. From the Display tab, under DirectX Features, ensure that each feature (DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration, and AGP Acceleration) are enabled.

17. Try the video card in another computer or another video card in your Computer.
* If your video card works in another Computer, then the video card is good and you should check your computer for the cause of the issue.
* If another video card exhibits the same behavior then the video card is good and you should check your computer for the cause of the issue.
* If your video card exhibits the same behavior in another computer then the card is defective.
* If the other video card works fine in your computer, then your video card is defective
If the card is proven to be defective then the issue that you are facing can only be resolved by a repairing your video card. Please apply for an RMA for your video card so that you can get a replacement for it.

Well I presume that's ok - maybe you entered a menu or something. As long as the clocks dont fall back to 2d when gaming.
No, it isn't happening at a menu, it's happening in the middle of a song.
The clocks aren't falling, but the same thing is happening, the game locks up for a few seconds then resumes.
I was going to try the "DaidalosBiosPack73v1" to see if it was any better, but when I tried to flash with ATIWinFlash v2.0.0.2 I got a mismatch ID number error or something...
Anyone else have this problem with that BIOS? I have a HIS 3870, got it in nov/dec.
Just tried the Catalyst 8.3 drivers with the Daidalos bios pack bios and I'm getting crazy video driver freezes and crashes....the preinstall cleanup of ati drivers and files went smooth. So did the install.On first reboot...windows booted to a blank screen and froze.It now crashes in ut3 and even in desktop at random times.
Is anyone else having issues with Cat 8.3 and these Daidalos bios?

Hmm. You must've installed the drivers incorrectly as I mine are working fine.
Try uninstalling/reinstalling via add/remove programs.
You have to use ATIflash 3.49 http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...lash_3.49.html....Just unzip the ATIflash files and copy all of them to a floppy along with the bios file that you wish to use( it has to be used in pure DOS mode outside of windows...at boot )Quote:

WOW...I've reformatted and reinstalled a clean copy of Vista x64...along with the Vista LDA (Linked Display Adaptor) Technology hotfixes for multiple GPU'S (which the new Catalyst 8.3's rely on )...and every time I start Unreal Tournament 3 (with both patches updated) all these errors happen when the driver crashes the system:

KERNEL-WHEA : Machine Check Event reported is a fatal Bus or Interconnect timeout error.( this one only occasionally )

I`m down to 2 options by the looks of it....it`s either a defect in a card or possibly the Daidalos bios is disliked by the new rewritten CrossfireX drivers.

Hi all. Im new here but back to topic. I received yesterday brand new Gigabyte HD3870 card from warranty which has GDDR4 memory.
This card also suffers for big powerplay issues. I carefully read all posts in this thread and tried the things and different bios`s and Catalyst 8.3 & 8.4 drivers. Powerplay issue is still there :(
My current rig is: Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz / Asus P5E / / 4GB 4-4-4-12 DDR2 800Mhz
With 3DMark06 i got only 12300 points. With my Club3D 2900XT i get 13500 points! How this is possible? Also i get with my 2900XT from Crysis benchmark avg. fps 35.5 while i got with this Gigabyte 3870 card avg. 28,46fps. What the heck? Should not 3870 be little bit faster than 2900 ..appearently not.
I even downloaded bios Gigabyte.HD3870.512.071123.bin and set fan to 40% speed and low3d gpu speed to 777MHz. It seems i still suffer for heavy powerplay issue or how it can be this is that much slower than my old and good 2900XT !?
By the way, you should guys use latest Radeon bios editor 110 instead of other tools.

This tool is very pro. because you can set the fan speeds etc.
With my 2900XT i can play Crysis MP with about 35-45fps pretty stable. I tried today with this 3870 card and fps were because of above issue 25-35 wich maded my game unplayable with Very High cvars.
This means i will likely sell this 3870 and put my old and good 2900XT back. What is even more ridiculous is that how came fan speed with stock settings for this card was all of 4% which maded this card temperature 60-65C when it was idle! Also this powerplay bug make me soon change to Nvidia cards ..i still can´t find any official fix for this issue.
If somebody might have any idea how to fix this issue, please tell me thanks.
PS. I forgot to mention, im using WinXP with SP3, so powerplay is not only Vista related issue.
Luckily, the 8.3 hotfix and 8.4 drivers solve the Powerplay issue for me. It is a massive relief!
ATI sucks! I will never buy another ATI product again - they won't allow an upgrade option from their current junk to the new junk, only old junk to new junk. What a waste of money these 3870s/3870X2s are. ATI/DIAMOND had a chance to work with me and chose not to so I'm going to make sure that everyone knows how I feel about the two main video card retailers out there currently. And I don't think ATI can afford bad press right now. NV is worth every penny I ever paid. Never a regret! ATI - first and last purchase, complete regret!
Well, I just found out that they handed some driver programmers/testers their walking papers about 2 weeks ago. I personally know one that was laid off. So we'll see what happens. Maybe they are making the necessary changes, but if you ask me - it's too late. Out of my 36 years on this planet I've never seen such incompetence nor have I ever been so infuriated. Just disable powerplay in the next driver release - Give up and let the card work right.. anything else is foolish until you get it straight. There's a novel concept - how about not using the public as your beta testers or release day? As in get it right or delay it. You fell behind, so what, don't screw the customer in an attempt to play catchup or try and regain the millions in debt, that ain't gonna work!

I've got two of these things, I've played half a dozen of the top 10 titles out right now (Most of which from beginning to end). The end result is that my aging 8800GTS 640 G80 gives this setup a very good run for it's money. And in some cases, totally outperforms it. Truth. Junk. Truth.
That's my irrelevant opinion and I earned the right to it. It was my $800 and hours of BIOS flashing and driver swapping that construct that opinion. Not to mention having Nvidia prior to this I had some false expectations. Being *spoiled* by Nvidia, I expect these cards to work out of the box! Imagine that.
Anyone wanna buy 2 Diamond 3870X2s? Pre-Flashed BIOS. Power play issues fixed! All other issues remain!

Well this isn't about ATi vs Nvidia now is it... Read the title of the topic and you will see that! Anyways, 2 3870X2's in CF would kick a 8800GTS's ass.

i got a connect3d 3870x2 and i need an bios that will allow me to oc past 866 on the core (PLL VCO DIVIDER BUG)...can anyone point me to one of the fixed bioses?

All I saw was a fixed BIOS for the regular 3870, not 3870X2 - I am not sure it will make that much of a difference...
ok i know how to find 3870x2 bios lol...also they are all broken, there are 4 slave bioses, and only one master...whoever was dumping them didnt have a clue :DQuote:

Hi Guys, Having read most of this thread I think I might have a similar problem to some, in as much as I received my new XFX HD4870x2 yesterday and installed it last night. I have installed Cat 9.2 but have noticed that the master GPU is running in what I presume is 2D clocks in the desktop at 500mhx on the core but the slave is running at the full 3D Stock clocks of 750mhz.
On top of that, in the quick tests that I did (Furmark, full screen), it appears that the Primary GPU stays in 2D even when running 3D apps but I have not had the chance yet to test the full performance in Vantage or 2006 yet...... anyone have any knowledge of this or idea's??
