I use 7/24 my e6750 at 3800mhz 1.47vcore and pencil mod , there is no unstability problem
idle : 1.472
load : 1.464
E6300 103% overclocked here and i can even boot at 3800Mhz. My ram setting is 5-5-5-15 and the sub timing is set on auto (2.35v). I'd like to get some help on the sub timing on the P5k-E wifi/ap and if possible get it stable at 3.8Ghz or more with yours help. Btw, who has the latest or what's the latest revision for this board. I'm using the latest bios; my overclock does not change from 0602 to the latest.. And how do i know if this is the max my cpu could do? I tested my ram at 600Mhz @ 3.5Ghz and it was stable so ram is not the problem here.
change bios to 0602.. less vdrop
I came to P5K-E/Wifi from P5WDH. In my opinion (and price wise), this motherboard is not in the same class. For sure, it overclocks a quad (3.6Ghz) better than P5WDH (3.1GHz). BUT - I've had 2 P5K-E/Wifi of my own, and been involved with 4 other systems based on P5K-E/Wifi, and the board has numerous issues. I just can't find a solid reasonable cost alternative at the moment.
You can expect issues with RAID-0 on this board (I'm using ports 1 and 3 and seems to be ok for the moment). And you can expect the odd BSOD every now and then if you are a power user. The backplate is a pain is the ass - wrong alignment. Long graphics cards cover ICH9R ports 1 and 3. Lack of PS2 mouse sucks. Comes with almost no cables/accessories. JMicron and Norton Ghost hate each other - so you need to disable JMicron which means losing IDE and E-Sata. You get the idea...
But you might as well join the club, because I can't think of a better cost effective alternative for now...
First i could found, the source of Burning issues ( high PIE/POE ), with both burners IDE...
JMicron, is here the guilty.....lol:down:
Also i miss, the option of more than 1.7Vcore, like my old Abit NFS 2.0...
The Bios is solded in the Board ( i`m still waiting a RMA from Belgium ), otherwise, i could do a Bios reflash, with other Board....
Except that, for now i like it..........
I totally agree with pee3, I can achieve great clocks that seem perfectly stable with this board... but then I'll have a random BSOD. Clocking lower doesn't seem to help. More voltage doesn't seem to help. Monitored temps are all reasonable... just to be sure I'm going to install new heatsinks all around on the board, but considering that I just paid over $80 for heatsinks, that brings the total for my board (w/ aftermarket heatsinks) to over $210.
I'm of the opinion that I shouldn't have to spend top dollar on a board and CPU to achieve high performance, which is, IMO, the whole point of overclocking. To those of the same opinion, I would look for a different board. I just wish I could suggest another board, but I can't. I was also looking at a P35 Abit board before I bought this one, but since I didn't give it a shot, I can't say how they would compare.
anyone else is having random freeze problem..
mouse and mobo turn off.. screen freezes and i have to push the restart button...
i am also having memory problem.. i can't oc over 1ghz with my super talent.. on abit it was easy to oc over 1 ghz without any problems
I did have my system at 3400MHZ, full stable, 24 hours, and, i think 5 days, always ON, since i use Torrents and Emule 24 hours...
No BSO or other kind of problems....
Always on, since August......emuling....
Can anyone help me with these problems?
My PC spec:
CPU: E6300 ES, Working perfectly under 400FSB, 1.2V in BIOS
MEM: G.Skill F2-6400PHU1-1GBHZ 1G x 2, Working perfectly under 400 MHz 4-4-4-12, 2.1V in BIOS
Video card: Colorful 8800GT 512MB (http://www.pcpop.com/doc/0/252/252043_5.shtml)
HDD: 2x ST3250410AS 250G in RAID 0, 1x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250G
DVD: Asus DRW 1814BLT
PSU: Coolermaster Real Power M520 modular RS-520-ASAA-A1
Case: Coolermaster CM690 with 3 case fans installed
With 0307 and 0901BIOS
Something strange happens to my motherboard. Every time I turn my PC off (but with AC power ON connected) before I sleep, my PC will NOT post every first time (Power Led ON, HDD Led didn’t ON). I have to disconnect the AC power for some while and then connect it again to get it work with the “Overclock failed message”. I tried to set everything to default, especially in Jumper free section. Also tried to set FSB, DRAM timing, Voltages into default (266, 5-5-5-15) manually. Luckily, I solve the problem by disconnecting one of my Maxtor HDD. However, another problem came up. The motherboard didn’t allow me change the FSB (Voltages and dram timing are OK). Even I manually set my FSB to 400, saved it. It still showed 266 FSB in CPU-Z.
Yesterday I just flashed to 0602 BIOS which has a good reputation on the internet. Disconnect the power of all HDDs and DVD writer. Didn’t help, still can’t start at the first time unless disconnecting & reconnecting AC power.
My CPU and MEM work perfectly on my previous ASUS P5B-plus Vista Edition.
What else can I do to narrow down the problem? I got another Coolermaster PSU PCAR 430W, enough for 8800GT? Should I swap it and try?
P5K-E Wifi/Ap now has rev. 1.02G in a new shiny blue box and it came with bios 702! :yepp:
Hi all, anyone care to list the differences between the revisions of this board? I see it comes in 2 packagings now (black or blue box). thanks
I'm thinking of changing my DS3R (vdroop hell) to this. Do you think there's any chance i'd get better then 3600Mhz stable on this board?
Also, for the money, is there any other board which is better then the P5K-E for dual/quad overclocking? (P35 only).
Checked it :)
Why is the premium better? I've heard it's the same board minus one LAN port or something like that.
I'd go for the DFI but it's too expensive (almost 100EUR more expensive in my country). The new DFI P35 DK is out of stock everywhere here... (it's cheaper then the p5k-e wifi by about 10 euro :)).
some components are of better quality, but not that much, it has a different cooling solution and two LAN controllers, that should be it
blue box comes with official 45nm support
I got it :D
It's the blue box. P5k-e WiFi edition. Loving it so far. I've put the 0602 bios on it (came with 0502 i think).
Can finally get 1.57v REAL and STABLE.
Currently Orthos'ing at 3722Mhz, stable for like 10mins. It used to error out with max voltage on my DS3R after like half a minute
If it doesn't error at this clock in half an hour or so i'm dropping the vcore, see how much it really needs. Anything above this speed and i get blue screen after starting Orthos and need to reboot.
Quite a big jump from my previous 3600mhz (8x450) stable at max 1.59v in bios (1.52v after load )
I have some questions though. When i boot up there is a screen showing the Marvel lan controller and my IDE HDD, it's asking me to press any key to continue (goes away by itself after like 5-10secs or so). It's annoying and i dunno how to turn it off. Any idea?
Also, everest doesn't show my RAM vcore anymore. I may be paranoid but i need to check it. Bios doesn't show it also.
What is CPU Voltage reference? I left it at auto.
What is CPU PLL voltage and NB voltage reference? Left both at auto.
Also, the Asus tweaker utility does not work for some reason. Windoze throws an error when i try to start it. Asus AL Suite to be exact.
Here's the screen btw. Awesome mobo! (I'm now at 15mins orthos, still no error :yepp: ).

I got 2 version of P5k-e wifi-ap boards :D just for fun...not that im planning to keep both of them :p
Rev.1.02G (have an extra power phase near the 4/8 pin power connector)
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/258...6769qb4.th.jpg
Rev.1.01G (same as the above)
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/169...6774zr7.th.jpg
http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/2...sc06646ij6.jpg
nice observation ... I didnt want to try that one, but also suspected
lol, nice find Aerosupra. So, this P5K-E/wifi use the same PCB as the Deluxe version =D
That because it's a revison 1.00g ;) Rev. 1.01g and up have its own name :D And it officially support 45nm (said so on the blue box).
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5...6802jw5.th.jpghttp://img95.imageshack.us/img95/629...6805bo6.th.jpg
I too have the Rev.1.02G with BIOS 0702
I noticed I was missing the SpeedStep Enable/Disable option, can someone else confirm this.
ADVANCED

A diffrence of 0.106V!
Is it true that if I want to oveclock I need to put the memory sticks in the black channels?
Anyone installed a heatsink over their mosfets? Like it's on the Deluxe version. Something like a Thermalright HR-09. You guys think that would help or is it not needed?
if you can, get two HR-09 type2 over them, I am personally going too - clocking a quad-core and they get toasty! Of course it helps!
Hi guys,
i have a problem, i flashed bios 0901 but have now often freeze and boot problems.
But i cant flash back to an older bios, not with EZ Flash and Asus Update..
Any idea? :(
Thanks
Chris
I'm also going to buy this mobo and considering an overclock on a q6600. Since I'm a n00b on c2d overclock could u guys point out the mosfets in this picture:
http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc06774zr7.jpg
I want to cool the mosfets since it seems to be important for a sucessfull overclock :)
The first ones are covered by the stock heatsink, the one directly above the CPU. The second mosfets are to the right of the CPU, they are actually surrounded by a rectangle with the letters Heatsink next to it. The Deluxe has the stock heatsink/pipe covering this area as well.
I'd say you're good with only one TR mosfet heatsink covering only those... check thermalright.com for your mobo info... they tell you which to use over there (they have 2 diff mosfet heatsinks).
If I were to remove the stock heatpipe to cool both mosfet banks with thermalright HS's then I would definately add 2 x thermalright chipset HS's as well, for good looks :)
I think I'm gonna get some of these for the ones on the right and call it a day. Low on €€

I am gettin crazy with OC a Q6600 in this board - stuck with 0901 BIOS too :( And it got unstable at 3,6 GHz ( 9x400 ) so increased the voltages ... nothing. Later I DECREASED voltages and now I am running a Q6600 at 3601MHz at 1,28V ! Dont know what to think of this, but so far Prime-stable , damn
Why are you stuck with 0901?
Probably because he can't update to an older version after flashing a newer one.
Same question from me...
Anyone know what is CPU Voltage reference, CPU PLL voltage and NB voltage reference?
Anyone know how to make PC Probe II show memory voltage, nb / sb temperature? (saw many people with screens with the program showing those). Mine only shows CPU temp, Motherboard temp, cpu vcore, fan speeds and 3.3v and such.
just flashed with 901 not happy and having epic getting back to 602 :(
Sorry the oFF:

At this moment, i`m using this config:
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8304/cpuizqe6.png
I also change the Bios to 0602 version....
Now my ultrage and disapointing, with Asus:
I did RMA of this board, because i couldn`t reboot, and didn`t have image...
I made 80Km, to send the Board to the store...
2 weeks after i made i call and it was read, and they told me, by phone, that they didn`t sent it to Holand, because she was ok....
Finally, i went to the store.....
So, what was the problem?
We did get off, all my Mushkin memorys, and did use, a cheap, stupid module of memory in the board..
Power it, and.....magic:shocked: she reboot and give image!
On bios, i did increase the voltage of memorys, save it and turn off.
Than i put again my Mushkin, and everthing now is ok...
Moral of this history:
Tks to incompetence of Asus, we all should have a cheap, piece of trash memory, to recory from bad OC, since they use less voltage.......:shakes: :shakes:
By the way....is my revision 1.00, read to 45nn CPU`s?
did anybody find a way to get an old BIOS to flash other than using the bad-flash & recovery CD method? I dont want to go that road. It also feels retarted not being able to flash other BIOS versions ... wtg Asus
After first nice impressions with the board I am starting to hate a bit, and I hate my self for changing the BIOS from 0603, since it was shipped with the board adn gave me a stable OC
got a spare qx9650? :D
ehehehehehe......not for now...
I did jump from 0504, to 0602, this way:
Burn a CD-RW with 0602 rom version...
Went to Bios, and load it, from the CD....
I ear, that with this method, you can go back, to old version of Bios...
I hope i did help:cool:
Mordorr
Got it
Use AsusUpdate
Check in the Options the downgrade option
Update by file
and done
thanks too jVIDIA
CPU/NB Voltage References are for the GTL Ref for the CPU/NB. CPU PLL is the Phase Locked Loop voltage for setting the CPU clock. More PLL will generally raise the FSB wall but PLL is very sensitive and will degrade quickly. Intel max PLL Spec is something like 1.6v.
If you figure out how to show all the other temps let me know, my P5K-E shows just the basics.
Thanks. I'll play around with the PLL voltage and see if i can get the damn thing stable at this speed and voltage with Orthos/Prime95 for more then 2-4 hours (it reboots after few hours now). I'll post here if i figure out how to make the damn software show more temps and voltages.
Bios downgrade off the Asus forums

Happy Holidays
Which board is better/easier to overclock, this Asus p5k-E or the MSI P35 Neo2?
Im looking to pick this board and just want to see if you would highly suggest this board. Looking also at the IP35-E. Just trying to see what to step up to. TIA
I was in your same shoes two days ago and i've picked this. Don't regret it one bit. Dunno how the Abit is but the voltage options on this board are killer!
Only bad thing is that you can't monitor your nb / sb and dram voltage for some reason (i can't anyway). Emailed Asus about that.
i use wireless in the house and how is the wireles receiver.
For those that need to downgrade I simply used a USB thumb drive and used Ezy Flash in the bios.
No worries.
It looks like the Abit IP35-E is being phased out. The only place I've found that still has them listed is Directron.com.
anything after bios 602 just has a bug, in which .1 needs to be added to mimic any bios 602 and below. my overclock is the exact same with any bios, and so im loving this board except for an IDE drive detection issue which seems fairly common :(.
alo, first of all good christmas for everyone :D
just want to ask if is there anyone here that has tried a QX9650 on a P5K-E ?
how are the results? is a X38 board really needed?
thanks
I've emailed Asus about the temperature monitoring issue i'm having and their response was that i should use the latest pcprobe/everest (already have the latest) and update the bios to latest 0901. I've heard that bios is awfull so not gonna happen :)
Anyone with a newer bios then 0602 can confirm that his PC Probe / Everest shows NB/SB temps + DRAM voltage ?
This is with BIOS 0703
Everything is set to AUTO
SpeedStep is working, changing my multi to 6 when idle.
Which temp do I trust to be accurate, I'm leaning towards CoreTemp's and Everest readings.
Anyone knows why Intel Thermal Analysis Tool is reporting my temp lower than Everest and Core Temp, does it have to do with some kind of delta calculation?
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8...3200ce6.th.jpg
Update.
Had to turn off PC Probe, 2 alarms went off for no reason, 1st indicating vCore @ 0V and then CPU fan @ 0RPM...
Here is a screenie at idle, SpeedStep kicking in.

A litle OFF:
I did upgrade to 0602 Bios....
Everything runs fine except i do have a beep about a fan CPU on the Boot...
How do i shut up it?
I do have a extra fan ON, butmy CPU uses Watercooling.....
Merry Christmas everbody!
Got to Hardware Monitor in BIOS and I think you can choose Ignore for the fan there.
Hardware monitoring in the bios. Put cpu fan as Ignored.
Thank you all!
Tomorow i will put it, off!:D
Merry Christmas!
Any reason to update BIOS from 404 to 603 ?
same here, desperate for the 0603
I`m confused...
Is it 603 or 602?
Im using 0602......
Update:
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5106/3500wq3.png
What you thing, people?
I wish i could pass the FSB to 500, but at 445, i do have problems...
Maybe i should use another configuration on the timmings of the memories?
Another question:
What software "on the fly" can we use to play with the FSB on the windows?
On old days of the Nforce 2, i did use a lot Clock Generator.....
Tks in advance,
Drop the performance level a bit, that might help reaching higher FSB levels.
Hi.
What do you mean by performance level?
I can`t reach more, than 445, even with a lower multiplier...;)
Tks,
U can use Setfsb in win... http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/down...tfsb20b18l.zip
Hi could you tell me what are the safe voltage for mobo and CPU, for CPU PLL Voltage and FSB Termination Voltage. I have PLL Auto, 1.5 and 1.7v options, and for FSB Termination choices from 1.2 to 1.5v.
it is safe to run PLL on 1,7v and 1.5v on FSB Termination , i have more stable pc at higher fsb clock.
the BIOS that I am seeking is really 0603,
0602 is beta and available on the Asus site, but 0603 for some reason not! I dont know if the 0603 is just for 1.01G boards or (or older revs) or what, but it was the only BIOS for me to have 3600 stable on my q6600
to vocch: what boards revision do you please have? it is written right above the first PCI-E 16x slot, thx
I'm thinking of getting this bord. But i'm doubting between this board and the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R. Which is more stable and is better in overclocking?
Hi.
Strange, since i do 3600MHZ hiper stable, with only 1.40vcore....
Did you try the Pencil trick, to the Mobo?
If you want my configuration, on the Bios, i can post it here:p:
Anyway, didn`t now about that bios 0603...i would apreciate a link, to get a copy, to my collection:cool:
Beta or not, im enjoing this 0602......
My next goal, will be pass the 445FSb 1:1 barrier.....
Shark-357
Thanks!
ok, it MAY help, so ,if you are willing , could you post your BIOS settings and board revision?
I dont know what is wrong, but I can do 3600 (400x9) even at 1,34V, a couple of Prime95 rounds complete, without any errors, but out of nowhere, the system restarts. Another strange thing to note is, that if I put more than 1.6V PLL and 1,3 FSB voltage, it restarts even on Windows load, completely unstable ... really strange. More than 1,45V ... also unstable, even on lower clocks, just restarts ...
Tryed all sorts of BIOSes and voltage options, nothin, just the same restart
No problem!
I have it at 3530MHZ, but i didn`t change a lot in Bios...
the revision is 1.00.
I also use a good watercool system, very good airflow and ramsincks extra, from thermaltake...
And a big 120mm over them:D
Later, at home, i will give you photos of the Bios, to share with the comunity also:up:
Mordorr
P.S. Didn´t find the 0603 bios, except for the Deluxe version....i wonder if they aren`t the same board....since my PBc says under Deluxe....
since your board is rev1.00,
is anyone here running a quad on a rev. 1.01 board? if yes, what is your amxfsb?
Well, there you have my Bios configs::up:

I didn`t change a lot, except FSB and the multiplier....
I hope did help you;)
About 0603 Bios, can someone give here a link, or upload?:welcome:
thanks a lot Mordorr, now I am really certain that there is something with my board ... your settings dont work for me, just restarts, like it always does. For example, if I set 1,4V CPU voltage in BIOS, it boots, but if I set 1,45V it immediatly restarts after POST, during Win bootup ... sux
Maybe this configuration, is a litle diferent for you....
I do use a Q6600 G0 + Mushkin 8500 2G....
Is doesn`t seems to be problem of Juice, since i do use a less strong Power Suply, with only 475Wts...
Maybe is your CPU limitation?
Can you use it in other Board?
Mordorr
P.S. In the setfsb, wich clockgenerator should i use?
Tks,
vocch, save it via Asus UPDATE, than you can send it on my mail aerosupraATseznamDOTcz and then, I will make it publicly available via my server
And BTW, could you post your settings for the 3,6GHz?
Hi Aerosupra...i used asus update but it did not show what file it was...so i thought it would be better to save in EZ flash so it would be a ROM file...i have rar'ed it and just sent...good luck m8.:)
Edit: As to o/c settings ....i am using 9x400 with 1.45vcore...mem 5-5-5-18...running @960mhz@2.0v and that's it...the rest are left on auto.
Hi!
I would be interested in that Bios too....
Soon, could one of you, do a upload to a site?
Tks in advance!
Aerosupra
Many tks, and also Vocch!
I could notice, that 0603, has 2MB is this a "default" Bios configuration?
Or some kind of image and backup?
If so, maybe should, after install, load defaults, and make a new image/copy, no?
Anyway,
Soon i full explore this Beta version, i will give a try:cool: :yepp:
Mordorr
Here is my most recent prime run and highest attempt on my q6600 for 24/7 stable. Bios settings are pretty much default. All I changed was fsb .Multi, cpu voltage and cpu ,pcie spread spectrum to disabled. There really isnt a need for upping the other voltages. My board is a 1.01 btw. If you want a screen of bios just let me know.

Dam...
485FSB:eek:
I wish my rig could do the same......
The guilty here:
CPU?
Memories?
Board 1.00 rev.?
Me?
Well, my PC will still be ON 24 hours, but i will go on vacations for the next days....
Experiences will continue next week:up:
damn, the 0603 made no difference for me and the quad, so a have put in my trusted 1 year old lapped e6600 and .... no high-voltage problems, totally stable and I could push my cpu to its limits (so far 3800MHz 1,48V - load)
a hope my other X38 board arrives soon, so can can put that damn quad under the scope - really weird, that it becomes unstable at 1,4V and higher no matter what frequency, I still blame the board ...
I hear the same....no big diferences between P35 and P38...
Maybe a P48....:D
Anyway, can you use yor CPU in other Board?
Is your CPU G0, or B3?
That could make all diference......
2mb bios file for the 0603 ?!
LOL ya good thing I have a 2 gb flash drive. :) What ever you do dont go near the 0901 bios. What a nightmare that was. I couldnt flash back no matter what I did until I got a link on here for a asus update that worked and boy was I freaked to have to flash in windows.
the quad is a L731 G0 Q6600 , it is a nightmare, a spent two days tryin all bioses, voltage, pencil mod, extreme pwm cooling ... nothin, that son of a silicon aint stable. Really strange, when I set voltages more than 1,4 V (real) cpu, or 1,6V PLL or 1,4 FSB or 1,55V Vnb it locks up and reboots even during Win bootup, with the E6600 I can rocket those voltage to 1,55Vcpu, 1,8Vpll, 1,5Vfsb, 1,7Vnb without a problem! its a nightmare for me. Another thing a have noticed is that the cpu had marks after a heatsink installation, scrathes on the surface - does it happen with a brand new, sealed cpu? I had a uncomfortly feeling about it, but I dont know what to think of it, since it had a " Intel factory sealed " sticker and the box was unopened ...
