Do you have an update yet dude ? :)
Nice Airbrushing and cool game.
Starting to look real good. Great job!
I have to say this is one of the most impressive paintings I have seen on a case, your work until now is phenomenal. It will definitely be a shame when you have to put hardware inside and fill it up with dust... :)
Behave!
this looks awesome can't wait to see finished product...
can you do me a crysis case??? :)
can't wait for a update
UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!! Please.
Abso-leet-ly amazing (hehe :p: )
Look forward to updates when you have time :)
The week from hell:
Well the lack of updates has been for a few reasons, firstly my internet was down and then things decided to go from bad to worse…
I was painting the main section of the case, finished the photograph which you will see later… pulled the masking tape off to finish the design and… well to cut a long story short, my bin is now full of unused B and q masking tape rolls!
Then I had to use ‘the N word’ ( Nitro mors) and pretty much start from scratch on the mid section.
How could it get worse?
Shortly after this, I was putting the case back onto the bench, lost my balance and nocked my airbrush off its stand, so now I have a bare metal case, and an airbrush with a 90 degree bend in the needle, and a potentially ruined fluid nozzle to boot ( these 2 parts cost more than the average beginners airbrush to replace! ) I’ve now been waiting days for a spare needle to arrive, so in the mean time I managed to find an old needle that is a little worse for wear, but kinda works. So I have been using that.
SO on with the update?
I cant really undertake any serious work on this case until my airbrush is 100%, Its not worth it!
Ill start from where I left off.
The side panel with the mural is nearly done. All colour to the whole case will be added at the very end. Up until now its all black and white.
The rest of the case has proved a little difficult to decide on a design. The problem is that there’s just hardly and space to work on.
I quickly mocked up the case and heres what I have so far.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5...0mediumkf9.jpg
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7...3mediumsn1.jpg
I decided to play bioshcok form the start again, as this is where the strongest images are. From this I took the city scape of Rapture from the pause menu, and some images from when your first in the elevator going under the ocean.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4...8mediumqw7.jpg
Remember this from the area where you first get the plasmids?
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3...9mediumcu4.jpg
The ‘welcome to rapture is masked in negative, so when the mask is pulled it looked like this:
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/8...3mediumnn0.jpg
Going back to the scene in the elevator, I remembered that slide show that Ryan shows, and the photo that sticks in your head “from the desk of Ryan”
Now this is the point where I had the problems, during which time my brother decided to borrow my camera and I forgot to change the settings back to how I needed them. So some of the pics are a tad poor in places.
Again, I cant finish this bit until I get my new needle! Which is why the guys face looks a little off. But this also has a lot to do with the photo’s
I start off with masking film, and start to pic the parts out to paint the boarder of the photo, along with the curls ( which will be bettered come the new needle! ( argh I need a needle))

I pick the parts of the text:

That’s all for now folks ! thank for being patient.
If you’re thinking its looking a bit bland, just wait until I add the colour ;)
Jeez and i thought i had a bad week !! Keep up the good stuff dude !
I only wish I could paint like that! Truly amazing airbrushing skill.
Dang... hopefully you get everything sorted out soon... and REALLY nice painting!
That so awesome U GOT MAD SKILLS!!
looking cool man cant wait to see it done
That looks utterly stunning, so i'm away to see my Doctor today. He's going to take a look at my heart and tell me if it's up to seeing the finished product ;)
Thanks for taking the time to show us all what you've been up to, despite a real week from hell. I bent all three of the needles for my Rotring airbrush a few years back. By accident. But never replaced them. I see your work and feel the itch again, bad. You're incredibly encouraging, and your work is inspiring.
I look forward to the next update with baited breath!
Insane case, cant wait to see the finished product in its clearcoat glory
WoW. That looks amazing.
Keep up thegreat work.
looks amazing....god i wish you sold your cases.
Very impressive painting so far. Keep it up ! :) :toast:
Are U kidding? HALF decent? :shocked:Quote:
Try my best with what I have got to get something half decent
I wouldn't be able to do that even with "the 9856 ultra gts airbrush kit" in my hands
Keep up the excelent work mate!
Behave!
*drool*
Everything just 'pops' off the black , especially the postcard thing(from desk of ryan)
Under no circumstances are you to be discouraged with the bad week you have had, if you stop in the middle of this project (unless it's for the crysis project :D ) alot of us will be very disappointed
hell yah man, my props go out to you on this project, dam good painting skills and dont let the one week from hell bring yah down. just take it easy for a few days and relax. im sure youll get it done the way you want it too.
Keep it Up M8, your doing Great :D
Wow. A very talented painter you are. Nice job!
great work keep it goin
would love to see it when finished
can't wait for some updates!!!
Wow. Skillz.
Okay, last update until Wednesday ish, as I'm going on a short break :) My 20th on tuesday !!
The front if the case looked a little something like this:
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7...7mediumcr8.jpg
BORING !
:)
Now it was quite a challenge to paint the front off this case, as its a weird shape and very 'bitty' so i have concentrated on 2 things; the hard drive cage and the power button area.
I needed inspiration, which i found - again right at the start, I knew i wanted to include the lighthouse in some way, so a started the game, swam around but just couldn't get the right angle to take a screenie, so i got back in the lift and looked for more inspiration. Then i found the rapture logo...
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/6...2mediumbk2.jpg
I made a mask, and stuck it to the cage front ( the front was already filled and prepped )
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6...3mediumpd9.jpg
I also cut the words ' all good things of this earth flow into the city ' I thought it would be cool to link the start of the whole game - the light house and connect it to these words which you see as you enter rapture.
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2...5mediumeo0.jpg
The lettering is painted in a prismatic paint, very light, so you cant actually see it unless the light hits it right.
Im looking at it now and i cannot see any text until i tilt and move it around - fab stuff - just a tad costly !
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6...6mediumbf9.jpg
almost out of sight.
Going back to the into of the game ( again ) remember the slide show? when Ryan speaks, and introduces his idea... Well I thought they were very powerful words and thought it would be cool to have them on the case somewhere.
The idea was to use a similar prismatic paint as before but have it almost as if it wasn't there - VERY subtle. it will pop out only at the exact angle and even then it will be subtle.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6...1mediumrm6.jpg
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/5...7mediumss0.jpg
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4...8mediumzo2.jpg
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/3...9mediumcz7.jpg
( a little water to show how the clear coat will make it act)
Next, I fancied a challenge, so on with the bioshock logo!
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/9...4mediumqf2.jpg
Mask is made,
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7...0mediumdt2.jpgMask is applied. I havnt painted it in yet though.
That all for now... We are SO almost nearly done !!!
holy mother of patience!!!!
:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
everything looks amazing, but that masked bioshock logo simply blew me away...
keep them pics coming!
Art..thy name is RB Customs :)

Insanely good. Wow.

I've been watching this thread for a bit and can't wait to see how this turns out. My artistic talent consists of tracing stick figures. Definite props from me for displaying such talent. I think this is going to be insane looking once the color/ clearcoat gets added.
The detail is just amazing... can't wait to see the finished product.
Hi guys,
Well, up until a week or two ago i was cutting masks by hand, using a scalpel... the way i had done it for years. and i was god at it and it is a skill all airbush artists need to learn... THen i bought a vinyl cutter.
I have known i was going to get one for years, and the other week i bit the bullet.
The only problem is . . . well in all honesty it doesnt save me a lot of time.
I still have to draw the designs in corel ( which i have no experience in ! )export to a sign program ( which i have no experience in ) and then send it to the plotter / cutter ( which i have no experience in either !)
After it is cut I have to 'weed' the bits I dont need out ( which I have plenty of experience in :P)
So at the moment it takes me the same, if not longer to cut masks until i get quicker at it.
The real life saver however is the ability to very quickly and easily cut text.
The amount of times i have done it by hand is un-real. And if when applied it messes up... you have to start over again :(
hope that answers a few questions :)
Rb
p.s happy birthday to me
Happy Bday mate
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU SIR?
You know what the best birthday present would be?
The incredible feeling you would get, having given me the completed bioshock and crysis cases :p
Happy Birthday! Take a break and enjoy the day. You deserve it with all that amazing work!
Happy Birthday sir!! May you get all your wishes. Loving the work, and i dont think i have to tell you i check this thread daily :P
hey, happy birthday to both of us, marvelous work btw...
happy b-day man, it looks more amazing everytime i see it
:lsfight: :lsfight: :worship: :worship: :worship: :flame: :flame:    :bday: :bday: :YIPPIE: :YIPPIE: :party3: :party3: :cheer: :cheer: :bounces: :bounces: :bday2: :bday2: :guitar: :guitar: :party2: :party2:   :dj: :dj:
Happy Birthday. I think he ^ has the smileys covered.
Thanks for the birthday wishes guys :)
Just a quick update, have not got the time to say much so ill just let the pics to the talking. . . .
this is the case as it was from the last update, I have masked the photograph part off, and put some subtle droplets on the case.
and also painted the bioshock logo in.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/5...7mediumfd5.jpg
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/3...1mediumnx5.jpg
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5...2mediumtk7.jpg
starting on the coloured parts now:
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/2...3mediumco1.jpg
I will take another shot when the fumes clear as they are makign the pictures come out bad.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7...4mediumlo5.jpg
try and slip an update in later on tonight if i can :)
Very very impressive dude. What ever happened with the big side panel though?
Very sorry, will have to update text and descriptions later on !
I have started to add colour to the panel, your really going to have to stick with me on this one as it looks bad before it gets better.
now there would have been 5 or 6 pictures here, but as i type, i am starting at the memory card that was meant to be in my camera... still stuck in the card reader. So there i was taking pictures that were not saved anywhere.
So i only have one picture.
again theres a ton of very fine paint in the air so the pics look bad, but you get the idea
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/8...5mediumsy5.jpg
more blue needs to be added to the girl, and the gloves need to be toned down a bit. apart from that, clear coat will tie everything in and melt some of the overspray into a smooth gradient of light
thats it for now guys !
.....
On looking at that picture again I know what your thinking... but you're gonna really have to trust me on this one. Its gonna look wicked when its done :)
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better...
BTW RB, happy belated b-day....been a crazy week for me and was w/o internet for a day or two (long story)
Love the progression, looks great so far. Keep up the great work!
This thread is on my "most watched" list. Simply amazing.
Amazing...
That is excellent! VERY nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nuff Said :D
Amazing work as always mate, oh and got to hate when you shoot some pictures only to find out you didn't... happened to me on a trip to Egypt, still with film and not digital camera.... Someone opened the lid on the camera as the film supposedly was already inside the cartridge... only it wasn't. :p:
Keep up the excellent work mate.
Behave!
I may have missed this somewhere in this thread, but do you do airbrushing for a living or this this purely a hobby for you? Either way, you are very talented.
Your patience and your determination to see such a labour-intensive project through to the end are commendable! I think just about everyone here would have no hope of ever modding a case like this to same high standard that you achieve with your airbrushed mods.
Again, well done.
Hi,
I don't do it for a living (yet) as i have a full time day job... Now the problem is - i have a pretty unique day job, It's almost as unique as being an airbrush artist for a living so i cant simply quit my day job to do this. I cant really go into much detail about my day job but its great :)
So for now I just do the painting in my spare time - of which i have very little! ( which is why this is taking so long ) This means i paint in the hours around 7pm-11pm every night I can... but most nights are already taken - family girlfriend, crysis ;) heh heh.
I suppose one day I will try to make a living out of it. But for now I am just workign on pre-painted cases to sell. - no deadlines!
Rick
My money is that he either works for the government (CIA?), or he's a male prostitute...
Absolutely god-like work with that air brushing. It's simply stunning. Almost a shame that the inside work is going to be mostly covered by computer stuff.
By the way, how resistant is the paint (especially around where the mobo goes) to scratching and what-not?
Eller
To use my Chuck Norris Cliche . . . . .
When clearcoated with the 2 pack clear coat, its as hard as chuck norris :P
I't wont be IMPOSSIBE to scratch, just like a car, it will scratch if you give it enough force, but my plan to save the insides from damage, is to simply loosen the pannels when instaling the drives and it will be fine.
I will also drop a clear plastic washer onto every screw hole when the clear coat is done so it will rest ontop of the clear, kinda sink in a bit and protect the paint.
congrats on very nice case.....
can i send you mine? :)
looking good
of course
update:
With the project drawing to an end, I decided to leave my mark so that who ever ends up owning this case can have a permanent reminder of how much fun I've had doing it. Its time to sign the insides.
I wanted something big, and bold that wouldn't be seen once the PC is built inside, so the mainbaord tray is where i chose.
This design was made in corel, by writing 'r b customs' with a marker the size of Gibraltar, then scanning it into corel and making the vectorised version of it.
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/3...6mediumiu5.jpg
I apply the mask tot he panel
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/4...8mediumpc9.jpg
paint it in very softly, as i want the colour to show through
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/9...0mediumkv5.jpg
then de-mask
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/7...2mediumlt1.jpg
Jobs a good 'n
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6...3mediumqt5.jpg
As for the rest of the case thats pretty much done now too. The clear coat will really finish it off but heres the pics of the raw paint for your enjoyment
Excuse the dressing table
Adding more colour

as is:

Nearly done !
Did you like bust out of the womb and find the nearest art supplier or what?
I N C R E D I B L E
what are those masks made out of?
You do the most impressive work that I have ever seen. You sir are an artist extraordinare.
i need to stop checkin out this thread, everytime i see an update i start drooling. once again, awesome job, keep it up
İncredible:clap:
I'm pretty sure this post alone will generate you a lifetime of business.
I love the logos, can't wait to see how clearcoat looks on this.
Easily the best case painting job I've ever seen.
Absolutely amazing.
Wow, I am in Awe.
I seriously wish I could do something like that, unfortunately I have two left hands.
You have a given talent my friend and I cannot wait to see the finished results.
P.S. Want to spray my TJ07? Come on... I know ya wana ;). Swapsies maybe?
Amazing. Simply stunning.
Legendary work!
Cant wait to see the finished project :)
absolutely incredible standard of work there. It's not only technically brilliant, but there's also an artistic flare that is shining through. This is the quality that makes this (your work) stand out, and gives it that extra quality. If i were you, i'd insure your hands for 6 figures!!!
Im eagerly awaiting the next update.
To re-iterate someone else's post;
Fantastic.
One of the best paint jobs ive seen, Do you plan to exhibit the case? You would win first price ;)
ZOMG- Zimply Awezome.
I have no idea of how to airbrush and what all is required. :shakes:
I am not even good at art or sketching/drawing.
But you have re-ignited that urge to airbrush. :D
Superb job
All I can say is... WOW! That is one truely fantastic paint job... well done!
Beautiful.
Woah Amazing!!! Can U Do Me A Crysis Case???
sweet!
Good Luck with Mod of the Month on BitTech! This case definitely deserves to win!
http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2007...nth_november/6
Hi fellas, I should have an update tonight at some point.
hoping to get this one done very soon.
Int he mean time...
:)
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=143048
have a look here :)
I wish I could vote for your case in that thread.
i can and did :)
that lumina shows great detail and craftmanship but acrylic does nothin for me, plus, i got a sweetspot for the tj07 (i'll have one in my hands in less than a month). an unmodded tj07 is a work of art but a paint job like R B's takes it to another level
I love these cases too.
The reason why i dont 'mod' my cases is because it doesnt fit well with custom paint jobs... laser cut panels are the ultimate PITA to clear coat, and so are most 'modded' effects. I prefer smooth glossy surfaces :)
Really close to wrapping this one up now guys, so thank you for all the support! it really makes working every hour of the day worth it ( kinda :P )
heres one of the last updates for ya!
I'll just let the pics do the talking here.
but just before i let them talk... this is the case in a rough state, its all patchy, some bits rough, some smooth some shiny, some flat. the colours are a little flat too.
you would not believe how much of a difference the clear coat will make, so bare that in mind folks
Top of the case: this will be BLUE when cleared

Cases are not the only things being painted in my house at the moment by the way ! This is not my usual dining room decor.
enjoy
looks kool
It's nice how its not all in your face, and the paint job of the whole case, while completely difference scenes / ideas and whatnot still work well together.
Just incredible...
KICK ASS
:p very nice work
Amazing :)
I like what you did with the walls....of the house... Nah, just kidding! This is reallly just sick!
Awesome!
Utterly incredible. Hope you win!
Wow, insane!
Wow... Just wow...
Absolutely brilliant. Look's magic !!
sigh...would love to own this case!
R.B. Customs -- saw some examples of your other work. You are a very talented young man!!!!
