Simple fix, if using vista, look for the boinc 6.1.0 client

If using XP, use client version 5.10.20 and go to worldcommunitygrid.org and check you device profile and check the box which says "maximum output"

also in the boinc manager in your tray, you can also check the option to "run always"

I game alot, and always have this running, only a few games I have found do I have to turn it off on. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, GR:AW 2 (due to havok and multi threading, the calls to the cores are too fast for boinc to keep up with) I just hit the snooze. World in Conflict on DX10 works fine, any of the older games works fine as well.

Would anyone know why I am continually getting a BSOD with this board?
I have everything at Default in the BIOS (1305) with the exception of the memory voltage which is at 2.1.

I tried to install Vista but it refused saying that the hardware was not compatible with Vista. (See Sig) then I installed XP and it just gives me a BSOD, reboots, back into windows and a BSOD.

Sorry didnt mean to hijack the thread. Just didnt want to start a new one for this.

1305 bios is bad news ,flash to 1303 and all should be ok ,just make shure system is on defaults before flashing ,use the onboard flashing utility in the bios if possible and do it off a floppy or thumb drive ,I hope this helps.

Is 1303 better than 1301, cause I never seen it till now, only new buggy crappy 1305.

I tell you why, I today went from 2GB Corsair to 4GB Muskin and I got real issues running both sticks at the stock 4:3:3:10 /2T settings @ default 2.2v or even as high as 2.4v, I tested each stick on its own and all was well.

I then though it could be the Memory Controler needs extra juice with 2 BIG Modules so upped the NB and SB voltages a touch higher than Auto runs and its stable, at 800mhz, I then went to 850mhz and had to up the Memory volts to 2.275v to keep the tight stock timings.

I know most new Bioses add support or improve support from new Memory, but dont see a "Read Me" from that FTP download.

Thanks Revhead for the advice. Reflashed to 1303 BIOS and I have been able to get into Vista now.

Just have one small Issue. When I have my USB hub, or mouse or Keyboard connected the PC wont go past the post. One beep screen comes up with ASUS logo and then thats as far as it gets.
On the back it Says USBINIT. I'm searching for what that means now.

It looks like the Striker Extreme is the board I'm going to buy since my current Asus P5N32-E SLI will only do 325fsb with my new Q6600 G0. When my previous E6600 was in the board I was able to hit well over 400mhz FSB and a solid 3.6ghz. And since the Striker uses a similar chipset, I should be able to transfer my RAID 0 array to the new board without having to re-format everything.

...my wallet hurts just thinking about spending $299 on a motherboard. oh well. You get what you pay for in this case.

That is EXACTLY why i wanted the 1303 BIOS. Since moving mine up to 1305, my overclock that was once stable, now isn't. Since the only things that changed was teh BIOS, it HAD to be something it did.
So, i'll go back.
Normally,i check XS forums first before doing a flash, becuase word spreads QUICK here when there is a bad actor in the BIOS world. BUt i didn't, now i wish i did.

dont know but i am not planning on upgrading until nehlam comes out, which is late next year. it is going to support 45 nm penryn but i dont know how well it would overclock, it should be fine.

I mentioned the CPU cooler above.

Under prime (after 30min I know I know thats short) I got 40C
Idel about 26C

The Programm to test was PC Probe unfortunately the cores are not diesplayed seperatly.

Core Voltage ist 1,3250 V

I give you everest results with longer prime periods as soon as possible.

every other voltage is on auto.

With this setting I get an FSB of 300MHz with a 9x multiplier.

If that is start fine. If you need some other data just tell me.

Bios problem perhaps from what I've heard about the 1305...

Yes I thought so, too, unfortunately the asus tool won´t let me downgrade to 1303, so I am going to do it from the dos prompt. The problem I am facing here is, that i do not have a FDD at hand. Until this changes I am stuck where I am. Thx for the advice no the less.

u do not need a floppy. put the unzipped 1303 bios on the C: or on a thumb drive. Reboot, go into bios and update from there. there is an Asus bios tool in the bios. you do not need to boot from floppy. The 1303 or 1301 bios will probably fix your issues. 1305 suks. I started with 1303, sometimes on high OC system wouldn't post about 20% of time. With 1301, i get same OC and it boots every time.

Thx, I have not recognized this yet. I try an older bios but may be you can give me a rough estimation of what should be possible with the configuration I am using.

Edit: I have been able to downgrade to BIOS 1301. Now I running at 3000MHz with an FSB of 333 and 9x Multi. with Vcore 1,45V (BIOS) PC Probe show 1.39V und CPU-Z shows 1,312V

Under Prime I have a max temperature of 62C

Could you explain to me what these two values are?

guys sadly my striker got hit by a the famous "CPU INIT" bug, tried for 3 hours to get it to boot but no go, i was absolutly in love with the board but i guess 680i is not very faithful to me, so i have my second 8800 ultra sitting away and i will probably wait for the next highend chipset from nvidia in november until than my ip-35 will do. hopefully nvidia will make that one right.

Umm wtf ?

Mine is still cracking along @ 3.6 on air ,I think the problem may be deeper than passing it off as the boards fault ? though I could be wrong, I just dont understand how you can have a board running fine and then dead the next ,unless you pushed it 2 far.


Edit ### I remember having CPU init on my lcd post a few times from a failed overclock ,and a cmos reset was all that was needed to get my system booting again,did you try a cmos reset? I am guessing you did.

Well NKD I have had the same CPU INIT and DET IDE issues rather much lately, only thing that helped me was to pop the battery out for a few hours and then tried ot boot again with one stick , till now it has come always back alive, but my dealer is gonna look for one with a fixed bios chip and then I am able to swap it...

My Striker is very tricky t build in , out of the case all is fine, once I put it in the case due to the numerous blocks it is end all over and I have to carefully and slowly put it in the case otherwise CPU INIT 4 sure....

1.6 is fine even 1.65 is fine allso providing you run a good aircooler and my CPU and HS are both lapped,the cooler I am running is Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme with Scythe 120mm.

My temps here go up to about 55 deg c idle im down to low 34 deg c.

The NB tems are what have been worying me so I have ordered some aftermarked SB NB AND MOFSET cooling from Thermalright because summer is comming here in Australia and it can get very hot.
But so far no problems.

Thanks a lot for your kind and fast replies. One more question, which programs do you use, to read your CPU Temperature?

The Problem I have is that Core Temp for some reason does not work, I get a lot of error messages and I have to close it using the taskmanger.

So right now I am using PC Probe to read the temperatures, but I don´t know if this tool is to be trusted.

I´d like to run the system with a multi of 9 und and FSB of 400 (1600 quadpumped) is this also possible or does this not work for some reason?

For temp monitoring I use Everest, because it does not only give you the CPU temp ( that's what PC Probe tells you ), but also the temperatures of Core1 and Core2. I think you should test it.

na its the mobo, i put in my old ip-35 pro and it booted right up.

Nps ,1800 fsb seems to be the sweet spot for these quads on Striker.

tried the battery removing step too, had it out for about 2 hours and still got the same code, everything was running cool because i have great airflow in the case. i will just wait for the next sli chipset. hopefully some x38 boards will end up supporting sli if they are allowed to use the nvidia's chip.

Put the battery in upsidedown for a few minutes. I know it sounds funny but it worked for me. Found it in asus forums.

agreed. I'm completely stable at 3712, but i've been crunching 24/7 @3600mhz 1800fsb 1.45v. I'm 8-12c cooler this way. CPU has been at 100% load for past 4 days with absolutely no issues.

What really gnaws at me, is the question if these setting can be run with air cooling, revhead says no probem, so I tried his -> result I had to remove the battery to get the system booting again.

Do I have to adjust MEM Voltage if I let the ram run on default settings?

all depends on ya ram ofcourse, if it's happy to run at 1.85 volts then you won't have to change those settings, my ram need 2.3 volt, so I set 2.2 as the board tends to overvolt the ram , so please verify what voltage your ram needs and it would be much easier for us if you put all of your hardware in your signature so won't have to guess what you are running...

I'm still using linflas settings. Worked great so no need to change much. About the difference between 1301 and 1303 bios, 1301 seems better for me. 1303 wasnt bad though. Maybe try 1303 like REVHEAD suggested, see if that helps.

Has anyone come across a problem when you have a USB mouse connected the computer wont start, as soon as its removed the damn thing starts no problems? Im getting this problem with my Micosoft Habu mouse if its connected the computer wont start.

isn't that mouse made for microsoft by Razor ? the copperhaed mice also had issues one of the reasons they delivered bios 1305

After running the 3.825 for about a month, decided the heat output vs. 225mhz was not worth it for me. I adjusted my clocks a little over a week ago and am very happy with 3.6, temps are WELL controlled, and overall very little performance difference is noticable to me. A few hundred 3DMarks when I am hitting 18000 in 06 anyway is not a big deal for me.

400 FSB does not work mate it's an FSB hole and it puts too much stress on the NB it seems !!

it's either 413, 425, or 450 FSB for quads... though my board never did the last sadly :(

Yup FSB hole in the 1303 bios, 400 does not work at all, would prefer it, as I could run lower latency on my ram, have not found a bios that works well with the quad that allows it yet.

ASUS promised a 1400 series bios months ago, never materialized thoug, and would not hold out much hope as the new series of boards probably have all thier attention.

Well, thx that you told me, but ASUS promised support for penryn CPUs, some of them are going to utilize an FSB of 1600 (as far as I know) which means, they have to code a BIOS that closes this hole.

New CPU, new Bios prolly also new issues lol,GO dual core doesn't have an issue with 400FSB, GO and B3 quad does sadly, we just have to wait, also noticing that the 780i is rumoured to be an 680i with an added bridge shows that the 680i is suitable for Penryn... just wait and see

Just tried out the 1800MHz settings and wouldn't ya know, 3.6GHz, 1800MHz stable! I love and hate this motherboard! :D

After 450/1800MHz can I keep pushing? Because I know the board is good for at least 1900MHz from using my E6600 with it?

I can run stable at 1900FSB with memory In Sync, I for some reason cannot run past 1925FSB even booting out of bios and I cannot get Memory above 950mhz even though it needs no extra volts to get to there but no amount of voltage to get higher works.

I aint sure if a FSB hole would affect Memory as I have tried only raising Memory to 975mhz and leaving FSB lower, still no go but Bios 1303 is by far the best ever and 1305 is a POS.

@ kup, BTW 1900FSb is higher than most peeps get on these mobos even with Dual Core funny thing is I need very little change to Chipset voltages to get there, do you think applying real proper TIM to Heatpipes would help instead that OEM Rubber GOO (crap).

I just scored my Q6600 - L731A364.
So far, the best OC i can must is a measly 3.3Ghz. I've been up and down the voltage ladder, but so far - no love.
Are any of you 1800FSB folks using any mods (ie: pencil mod) ?
I tried 1800/800 and i had to clear the CMOS.

This is an early board Striker, and i never seem to get very lucky buying CPU's. I'm either to early, or to late. Most of these bad a$$ overclockers have been in the L72xxxxx and i'm into a week 31. So i'm guessing - i missed the bus again.....

So far, teh best 100&#37; stable OC i can obtain, is 3.0Ghz. There is always SOMETHING that wont' work quite right above the 3.0Ghz mark.
Like WinZip----Why would it stop launching once the clock speed hits 3.1Ghz? IT DOES, AND ITS GHEY.
I've tried mirroring all the successful settings I've seen here, using a 9 multi, to get higher than 3.0Ghz. so far, its only KINDA working.
I can get to the desktop, and a LOT of aps work. I use Everest CPU Stress routine and leave it up for like 20 mins. NO crashes. but there is always one or two hiccups that just dont' seen right - like the WinZip thing.

I'd say i'm confused. but i'm not - i have HORRIBLE luck, buying CPUs. and its not like i can honestly RMA a CPU becuase it won't overclock......
sure, ya CAN - but i've got enough bad karma, which is probably why i keep getting dud CPUs

Try to keep ya ram at or below 900Mhz if you go so high on the FSB, my board doesn't boot with 1900FSB and 1066Mhz, boot's fine with around 850Mhz , and for my board it's even a bigger issue with the quad, 1000mhz ram speed is a no go above 1333FSB, it's very very unstable...

Take the settings you posted from Linflas and drop multi to 8 for 8 x 425 , you get 3400mhz, or go 1333FSB with 9 multi

LOL, I ideally want 2000FSB (500), with Ram @ 1000mhz (which it can do with no extra volts and keep its 4:4:4:12 /2T)

I also run past 3.85GHZ on /Auto volts but no matter what voltage I cant stay in Windows long at 4GHZ, I mean if I can Stress @ 3.85+GHZ for hours in a hot room why cant I sit idle for more than a few mins at 4GHZ in a cool room, something weird there.

My cooler is not extreme but cools fine (Noctua NH-U12F + better FAN).

@ Leeghoofd, I have tried locking FSB and only getting Ram to 1000, no go.

I then tried locking Memory and getting FSB to 1950, no go 1925 is highest with hardly any extra Volts needed on the Chipsets.

I know some users that got 500FSB but with ram at 1200mhz with high voltage and loose timings , sometimes it's all about the divider used , but I wouldn't recommend that as 24/7 , think it's more a dream to strive for, perhaps with P35 but surely not on day to day basis...

Also boting up is not stable is it, I need to alter the voltage settings manually to much highe levels then auto to get it orthos stable ( especially 1.2HT and CPU VTT )

Weird thing is I also locked at 475 max FSB, no matter what I try I cannot get the board to post at 500FSB ( might be CPU wall too ofcourse ) I have had a CPU-Z screenshot at 4ghz with the E6850 but it lasted 20 minutes then BSOD on me ( just surfing and mailing in windows )

I cant even boot out of bios at 1700FSB with that POS 1305 bios your testing lol.

I got into Windows at 500FSB last night with higher volts on the 1.2HT, it is 1.5v stock anyhow on these Mobos, it did not last long and frooze not even a BSOD but the CPU @ 4GHZ does give a BSOD.

As I have said above, to get to 3.85+GHZ, I need change little and not need much voltage, same for 1925FSB, but after that no mater how much volts 4GHZ or 500FSB aint stable to even use in Windows for next to nothing like surfing etc.

What would you consider safe high voltages on the various chipsets ?.

With the GO CPU 1305 has been as good for me as 1303, though I'm yet awaiting the sensor lockup again, if that happens again it's outta here...

Mobo is on the desk now, as I'm constructing a new cube, so not much going on there

Have you considered the 1301 bios? I was really happy with the 1305 up until the 450FSB plus settings. Not working as well for me. I was scanning HWBot and noticed some using very aggressive clocks using the 1301 bios. I'm curious to see how it worked for you.

I could not get near my current clocks till 1303 bios, 1305 is a no go and 1303 fixes a lot of issues like booting up with space bar and backlight staying off after post if I choose it to do so :).

Just have a quick question, which bios do you guy's recommend, 1301 or 1303? I can't seem to find a majority one way or another. Well, after some downtime due to some rewiring in the house, I go to fire up the rig, and bam, the dreaded cpu-init error. I tried all the tricks, ram out, battery out, battery flip, no joy.

Damn shame too cause I found a couple of my old bios chips moving things around, and was planning on hot flashing a few different bios on other chips for backup. Too late is my story, and I am sure I will end up with the new one with the soldered chip.

Well such is life and the 680i chipset.

Sorry to hear that. I see a trend.... If this board breaks, I'm selling my ultras and going ATI and Intel. Enough is enough with these nvidia chips. Maybe the 7 series will bring love? Who knows!

Anyone know why my Q6600 and Striker Extreme combo would not take an 8x multi after POST? I'm trying to find the sweet spot in this overclock, and so far the best thing i can get is 3.15Ghz.
I've tried reading the 8 pages here, and 15 pages in other threads, but i just can't pool all the info together. I've written so many pages of notes, my desk is in shreads. I've followed all the suggestions, which is prety much darn near max every voltage except your vCORE and then start running up the FSB.
I can't even get to 3.2Ghz doing THAT.
I'm sure i got a dud CPU - becuase that is my luck. L731A364.....

So i'll start there - is the multi LOCKED?

I really really hope I just didn't get suckered into buying a melon of a board. I'd be happy with 3.6 on my quad but I know it's capable of much more than that. What I'm afraid of is this "cpu-init" error that seems to be plaguing the Strikers. Also correct me if I'm wrong but the board has problems with memory running over 1000? I have PC8500 and I sure don't want to have to run it at like 800. I guess time will tell. :rolleyes:

hey linflas, same happened to me with the built in bios chips, tried all tricks, hours and hours of headache, finally went back to my ip-35 pro that i still hadn't returned yet and sticking with single ultra for now. 780 is just a redone 680i sadly but i will try it when it comes out since it will be a little different design and still a new board.

striker gave me lots of love and sadly asus still has problems with cpu init bug and sadly no cure for it.

Yes, my multi appears to be locked. so i can't lower my multi to take the CPU out of the equation. Things appear to be JUST fine until i had 1423 FSB. EVERYTHING runs fine up to 1422 and NO amount of voltage to ANYTHING will get it over that hump.

EVGA seems to have a better bios with p31 , but maybe too early to judge, if you go quad go Intel , less issues, my Asus formula is preordered, Striker stays at 3ghz and sometimes higher for fun, but going into my 2nd rig...

And indeed till now if they keep the 680i with a bridge to achieve a 780i think I'm gonna pass this one and stick single

I've noticed that with my striker if I remove the power cable from it, for more then a min or so I get cpu-init.

From there, now and then if I fire it up several dozen times repeatedly it might go away and boot.

I've also managed to start getting det-dram errors, and I know the RAM is good. The only way out of this is to completely turn the damn thing off and again fire it up a couple dozen times.

At times the board behaves for weeks on end, and then just goes berserk:shrug:

I have no issues on my Striker E after major :banana::banana::banana::banana: on a Crosshair that finally fried after 5 weeks of life.

I know what you mean. I have a IP35-Pro thats working just fine, running at 3.8 with no problems at all but I just happened to acquire a second 8800GTX so I figure why not use both of them. I just ordered this board and after reading more posts and other forums, I'm really wishing I hadn't. If I send it back untouched they may charge a 15% re-stocking fee or maybe I'll exchange it for a different board, to be honest I'm a little ticked but I guess it's my fault for not doing more research :mad:

I'm scared also on my EVGA 680i A1 board since it's my forth RMA board and the one before this just fried on trying to OC my Q6600 over 3.8, same cpu I got on EVGA 650i Ultra @ 4014 but the 680 is now just scaring me I'm now again on 3.6 and 1.4v but I'm not sure if I should try again more, think I'm going to sell this board and get P35 chipset instead since I'm sick of RMA'ing my board every two week's.

Honestly I think my problem was due to a mis communication with the electricion, he shut down power prior to letting me know, and my rig got a less than graceful :banana::banana::banana::banana: down, and then reboot seconds later when he was messing with some things, so, my problem may be just due to some bad luck.

I am still a Striker fan, as I believe the cpu-init bug is just that a bug, something to do with the power regulators on the board. I did not try remove all the psu coneections prior to mailing it back, should have done that as that is one of my normal troubleshooting things. Oh well, just forgot.

Hey linflas do you know how well the board works with DDR-1066? My G0 can easily do 3.8 but I want to at least run my ram run at it's default speed? How does the board fair with high FSB and ram?

I am on Capitol St. 8 blocks down from the Capitol in an old 1920 craftsman we are fixing up.

Now to the ram, the beauty of the 680i is the unlinked ram settings, they are not as limited by dividers as on the intel chipsets, I ran some Buffalo firestix 2x1GB D9GKX @ 1200mhz no problem, so you should have zero problems with 1066.

What we really need is a bios that deal's with the cpu Quad based FSB holes, that would really help out CPU clocking as the x9 multi @ 400 (1600) is dead. I prefer @ 3.6 clock as I crunch, and it requires low volts and produces much less heat, and @ 400 the strap chang @ about 422 does not come into affect and the ram is much faster. At least according to ram benchmarks done.

Hey linflas, do you know what the known working FSB's for quads are on this board? My chip is pretty good, can do 425 that I know of and probably much more, just haven't had the time to push it. As of now, running on my IP35-Pro I have 3.8 (9x425). I would be happy running at 3.6 and two 8800GTX's. What FSB and multi and you using at 3.6? 8x450?

Edit: Found my answers on the previous page. Looks like 400 is a no go but 413, 425 and 450 are good with the 1303 bios and I believe you are running 8x450 for 3.6

Anyone have a link for the 1303 bios? It doesn't seem to be in the normal bios section at Asus's site, just 1301 and 1305.

Started out with linflas "magical settings" and running perfect at 3.6 :up:

Now on to pushing the quad higher. Can some people running 3.8 or higher post their bios settings please? It seems that changing the FSB to anything other than 1800 won't post. I did change the multi to 9 instead of 8 and was able to boot into windows at 4.05 but Prime fails as soon as I start it. Sorry as I am a new to the 680i chipset. What should I try setting my multi and FSB to for 3.8 or more? Does running my ram at 1066 appose problems as I raise the FSB? Any help would be great, thanks!
