Nooc, if you're running copper/brass only then you can go for distilled water and pt_nuke, or just distilled if you feel safe that algae wont grow.

Anyway, one of the things I meant to add to my OP was that I think our laser focus on maximum performance can occasionally overlook (or crush) what might be other important requirements to newcommers looking to cool their rig. Everyone has constraints, requirements, needs, and objectives with their water cooling that don't always include chasing that last 1-2 degrees at any cost. I think the emerging veterans (who do most of the posting now) could be more helpful to newcommers by first questioning them on their requirements, budgets, constraints, and priorities before just spewing forth the standard list of equipment to buy. About 12-13 years ago I was heavily involved in car audio. It's remarkable to me how similar that "sport" was at that time to my latest hobby... water cooling. Back then there were passionate camps pitted against each other related to SPL (who was loudest) vs. bling (neon!) vs. audio quality vs. stealth/stock installs etc. I'm sure those camps are as passionate as ever now that they have the internet as a vehicle to share their enthusiasm. That whole industry really reached it's peak when the sound-off governing body started to incorporate elements from all camps into the rules for competing and the scoring system for winning. It forced everyone who was serious to look beyond their narrow focus to incorporate elements of the trade that they had previously shunned if they wanted respect. It was fantastic and really advanced the industry (IMHO)... How do you generate 120dB SPL in a stock/stealth install?!... Significantly more challenging than a van full of 15" subs! (my analogy to the UFO in this sport :p:).
I would like to see this industry evolve similarly and XS along with it. I would like to see systems judged not just on their cooling performance, but their suitability to the design constraints and requirements. I would like to see attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship encouraged and displayed in all builds... (Sorry Yugen! :p:) and I would really like to see this community embrace a broader range of solutions that meet a broader range of objectives than just that last 1-2 deg even though that may be the #1 objective for a lot of folks, it's not for everyone.
Finally, I would like to reiterate that I would like to see both the veterans and emerging veterans take a more consultative approach free of judgement and bias when helping others, especially if their objectives and requirements are not the same as your own.
The first response to a "I'm new to water cooling thread" should not be... "Buy a Fuzion, 120.3, and a DDC" (even though that's generally good advice). It should be... "What are your priorities, constraints, budget, etc.?". Then you can help them engineer the ideal solution for their needs and perhaps everyone can learn something new... ?

XS is certainly my reference when it comes to extreme cooling including watercooling as the other sites just don't have the traffic and eagerness i see here :)

Won't disclose exact details for obvious reasons. Wrote software simulation of my ideas that show that there is the potential to achieve between a 10-16% performance gain over more conventional designs, and a far more graceful handling of high-speed fans for low-speed-fan optimized radiator designs, effectively increasing the range of fan powers that can best be used and still be dominant with. There are caveats though. More expensive to manufacture, and there are some installation considerations as it's not "fool-proof", meaning that the clumsy oaf could screw it up and see no improvements at all.Quote:
