I too was concerned about the ApogeeGTX when it first came out.
However, I've actually bought one (a long time ago now) to go into my loop once my case has been fully modded (LianLi PC343B).
I bought it because Swiftech seem to put a lot of effort into their sollutions. For instance the MCRES-Micro resevoir I had was brilliant - wasn't just something that held water with barbs out of it. It actually had design features. Like the sloped plate inside it.
MCW30 - one of the most versitile chipset coolers you can get with little resistance.
MCW60 - Good design where you can attach backplates to it.
I actually gave Gabe a hard time over the ApogeeGT CES test show down, and over the ApogeeGTX - but he explained his points to me very well without getting argumentive or aggrovated.
The dye does come off, and I was concerned over this - but the dye is so thin and of such small surface area that it wouldn't even tinge my water and biocide only coolant.

Don't even bring Zalman into this. Swiftech's use of Alu is disconcerting but at least they go above and beyond what is needed to ensure it won't affect the loop. The same can't be said about other companies out there that do: Koolance, Aqua Computer, Thermaltake, Zalman, Innovatek, etc.
:up: yes, it seems they've chosen a good way to protect their aluminum... I don't understand why people here and there give Swiftech such a hard time.
For being a watercooling addict for the three last years I have tried several brands and to me Swiftech is above. Aluminum mixed with Copper in a loop has been a problem known for a long time now. Even Swiftech had issues at one time with anodized aluminum; I personnaly don't think they'd go back to aluminum without being confident about their plating process. Used in their "Stealth" (?) the aluminum makes a lot of sense to me.
Most of us don't have a problem with Swiftech as they're the performance leader in the market along with D-Tek in the CPU and arguably the GPU market as well. Their CEO regularly posts on these boards, hears us out and has earned our trust for the most part.
In the case of the GTX and possibly the stealth, the use of Alu appears to be more for the looks rather than cutting corners like other brands (Koolance, AC, etc). They also abide by a stricter process to ensure that the Alu won't ever come in contact with the copper. However, I hope in the future they forgo the use of Alu altogether. As long as they do, companies such as Koolance and AC will find a way to champion their cause in cutting corners for the sake of the almighty buck. I buy Swiftech not for looks, but for the performance. I trust they'll keep in mind that people like me and others on XS are the reason they became popular in the first place...not the average user that goes "wow, cool looking block".
corrosion ? there sould be none i am using right now a ok all in one thing i got for $30 COOLERMASTER aquagate for my amd fx-60 overclock to 3.0ghz and it has a alum rad thats only 80mm and that set up has been running for almost a year now with no problems and the cpu block is copper with poly top. i ripped that thing apart so many times and said what the heck thats why i want to build this new set up that will also cool my video cards. so no corrosion with the alum rad which i put a hole in and had to fix i could take some pic of this thing it would make you think is makeshift. im using the coolent they gave also with some antifreeze because i lost alot when i put the hole in rad. so if you want some pics ask me if not im not wasting my time thanks for every thing and sorry for the spelling
i just got the Koolance blocks for the geforce 8800gts well i just order them and i think i might have to make ploy tops for them just to be on the safe side and for looks i will get some pics once im done ill make the tops some time this week and when the blocks come next week ill get the pic for you guys. has any one seen the inside of the Koolance waterblock?

Aluminum is aluminum everywhere.
If Swiftech wasn't ALSO cutting corners, they would use brass (which was immediately dismissed by the Swiftech CEO as posted here in this Forum), copper or Delrin.
One thing people forget is that the use of aluminum by Swiftech to manufacture their waterblock housings isn't new. The MCW-5000 series, the MCW-462, MCW-20 VGA, MCW-50, MCW-40, just to name a few, ALL had aluminum housings. They even had the 676 radiator made of aluminum stacked plates.
The ONLY honourable exception was and still is the MCW-6000.
As fot the «stricter process», it really means nothing at all, UNLESS you have a good QC policy.
So, why all this fuss?

But @ neal, i'll answer this question one more time.
That black stuff is DYE. It scrubs off very easily with a soft tooth brush and warm water.
The underside is nickle platted, with mil spec. Thats military incase you dont want to know.
And if this block does ever corrode, im sure gabe will give up on using alu for the rest of his life on his waterblocks. And iany and i will make him fork over cathars prototype G7 to compensate for it.

I love it when people use my pictures and represent the wrong words. That picture i posted was to show the DYE coming off. Thats it. The platting is still top notch the last time i took her apart.
So basically, the block is excellent and won't cause any problems when you use an additive into your loop ? I haven't bothered reading through all the pages and there is way too much editing and bashing. Some of you guys are taking it way to seriously! Is not something that will kill your hardware or even kill you after all. It's just a block!
